I'm about to be an owner of this unit soon. I've read about the issues about the overheat. Just a question, not all units are affected right? but how to know which batch are?
Yes, that's a big issue of ST15i I experienced it, so I'll let you know.
I bought this phone about 1 year ago; after that, overheat issue appeared and I fixed it hardly. But after that, it damaged because of the flashing and etc. So I sold it and bought a new one. Fortunately, it doesn't have overheat issue.
1. Certainly buy V. 2.3.3 not 2.3.4 or etc.
2. The phone you buy must have Chinese and Japanese special keyboard as well (Settings >> Language and keyboard)
3. One of these languages has to be the default phone language: Japanese (日本語) - English UK - English US. My default phone language is English UK.
4. You have to feel "XPERIA" and "HD" text on back of the phone when you touch it.

And.. I couldn't understand the meaning of "embrossed"; can you explain it? (Sorry)

Ehm... why should one buy a 2.3.3 and not a 2.3.4?
And why should there be chinise and japanese keyboards (which I think are always on every device, btw?)
And what about the default phone language?
And again, what about the engraved logo?
So, in the end... what are you talking about?
And by the way, to fix the overheat issue you just need to run THIS script...

The "overheat" issue is solved, just take a look at this
What you have to do is input this in scriptmanager or gscript [ROOT required]:
Code:
dev=/sys/devices/platform/spi_qsd.0/spi0.0
fw=touch_smultron_sony.hex
cyttsp_fwloader -dev $dev -fw /system/etc/firmware/$fw -verify_only
sleep 5
reboot -p
If you're running cyanogenmod though, as stated above, you'll have no issue

Hi there
Im wondering if anyone has had their vibrator stop working for the X10 Mini Pro? And if so do you know where to get one? And where theres a disassembly guide?
Mine seemed to stop a couple of months ago. Havent really been too bothered about it, but since Ive found out how to access the service menu to test it, it appear that mine has died, and wondering how quick/easy it is to fix
It should be under warranty, so that'll be the easiest route (apart from losing your phone for an unspecified amount of time...)
Could you explain how to test the vibrator? I have lost vibration on mine, though I think I have somehow disconfigured it.

Yeah but I rooted and debranded it so byebye warranty. Its not too much of a problem though. Just worried about a phone call or a text I may not hear lol.
Anyway. Service menu:
menu, back, back, menu, back, menu, menu, back on lockscreen. NOTE: it doesnt work if you try entering it using lockbot lockscreen. Default one does though. Service tests, then Vibrator.
I read your thread the other day. Thats pretty much the same way mine has "died" (most apps wanting to vibrate when it does something)
One more to join the dead vibrator club. Greetings from Brazil.
isn't it possible to revoke the rooting and branding? at least the branding should be equal for the se repair team (i think).
Vibrator?

That's a different accessory, add headphones and do a web search. 8)
you shouldnt really call it a vibrator
as for warrenty come on just reinstall the factory firmware be as though you never rooted it lol they wont know.
yey ! just like Iphone, you reinstall the original fw by SEUS and thay don't know you rooted it before.
Or just disassemble your phone and replace with the new one ! (i do it with my Nokia E63 ! it's very easy!)
You may wanna see this
try it with your own risk ! lol
Mine stopped vibrating for texts and calls but still works this was on 1.6 on 2.1 it is fine

Hi! I had this problem a long time now.
The keyboard background light is stronger on the left side, than on the right side of the keyboard.
Am I the only one with this problem?
Please can someone help me.
Regards Paul
Same issue. I was told to reflash but I haven't done that yet.
Same problem here =(
On my keyboard right side has almost no light. And vibration is not working. So I just turn the light off.
got exactly the same problem, dont see how a reflash or hard-reset would help.

it won´t. it is a hardware problem.
you could probably try take it back to the retailer you bought it from.. They might but most likely won't do anything.
Got not problems here. Had this phone for 2 months now. Maybe it happens over general wear and tear?
mine is at the TS atm because of the keyb light and wifi problems. i'll let you know if they solve the problem
Hey, that's happens to all SE phones FYI all of you, u can ask some of ur friends with other SE phone and its always stronger keyboard light on the left

I would attribute it to the overall build quality and not to wear and tear, as mine lost vibration and got problems with keyboard light in less than 2 weeks, during which I practically never used the phone.
So if almost everyone has it, maybe It's the placement of the LED in the keyboard?

i want to buy xperia mini
but i read many posts about the heating problem and SE center sometimes solve it and sometimes problem returns back
and other says that it is only in old version but if i buy it now it willnot exist
What you advise me ?? buy or not ??
You mean the heating problem of the touchscreen?
A friend of mine also had the problem, we tried different kind of rom's, but with his phone, it wasnt a software issue.
After installing a new touchscreen the problem was solved.
But if you shouldnt buy it because there are some users with this problem, i dont know. I bought it too and i like the phone
when did ur freind buy it ??
and what is about ur phone ,, having the same problem
i feel noob with all this Question
I just bought my xperia mini this January 2012, I had that heating issue everyone's so frustrated about. I availed of the warranty and they took my phone for a month. When I got my phone back the heating issue was gone
I like the phone, if you want to play games on it you should go with Xperia Mini Pro cause it will perform better (Xperia Play is way better).
Heating
The heat problem is easily fixed.
What you need: rooted stock rom, GScript lite application.
Here's how to do it:
It seems cyttsp_fwloader has auto-calibration itself, so I poked the file and finally my phone is fixed now. Hopefully anyone who has the issue could use this method, too.
This script is written by GScript Lite, or maybe you could use this as a shell script. In both cases, you need a root access to run this script.
Code:
dev=/sys/devices/platform/spi_qsd.0/spi0.0
fw=touch_smultron_sony.hex
cyttsp_fwloader -dev $dev -fw /system/etc/firmware/$fw -verify_only
sleep 5
reboot -p
Your phone will shutdown by running this script, and after powering-on, your phone should be fixed.
Note (as usual): I don't have any responsible for this script, so use at your own risk!

The first production line had this problem, SE solved it later. It doesn't matter where you bought it, but when you bought it.
Hello guys, I know it could sound really weird for you all, but here's my point: I just bought an Xperia Mini on eBay from a user claiming he had received it directly from Sony Ericsson as a free sample. I received it yesterday, it was unpacked and was sold together with the battery charger only. Nothing too strange.
By the way, after about half an hour I realized the phone had a front camera.
Ok, I watched the video and i know I'm a noob on XDA. But I'm no stupid
So don't tell me it's the light/proximity sensor! I wouldn't be here! It's a working front camera, since I can switch between this one and the "normal" one and take pictures. Here is a picture of the phone:
EDIT
Looks like I can't post links, so I'll just skip this step
Anyway, the other strange thing is that the phone comes with Android 2.3.3, build 4.0.A.2.368, and I can't update it. Not directly from the phone, nor using PC Companion. It just keeps saying the software is up to date.
So... have you ever heard of something like this? What should I do?
What is the phone model in the settings?
Model ST15i
I wrote to the seller, and he just answered me: he says that, working for a company that create applications for iOS and Android, they usually get five samples for each model. This is one of those. It could be, as I thought, a sort of "prototype". The thing is: I am grateful for the front camera, but I'd like to be able to get software updates, and this seems impossible. And also, I suppose that updating through "unofficial" ways would take to the impossibility of using the front camera.
i'm thinking of sending it back and buying a new one
I'm really envious right now...
really curious now.. Try adding photo's with the attachments feature !
where are you from?
can you share the link where you buy?
sorry for my bad english
Here's the picture of the phone... I wouldn't be envious at all, anyway. I have a couple of days to understand if I can update the phone, if updating causes the impossibility of using the front camera, and if - even worse - it can cause hardware incompatibilities, crashes, explosions or else. Then I have to decide if I want to send it back or not.
D'oh.
That's pretty cool... But it absolutely sucks that you can't update the firmware..
Maybe you can contact Sony and ask if there is any way to update..

If it was a test product, don't think they will be happy that an Xperia Mini is roaming around in the wild with a front camera. In my opinion if you really want to update, flash a ROM that is made for the Xperia Mini Pro, then you might be able to use the front camera. There is barely any difference between the XMP and XM then the HW keyboard and the Front camera.
an update is not necessary. you can flash a custom roms

Well... how do I create a backup copy of my firmware? Because I'm not sure it's the same as the "normal" 4.0.A.2.368. By the way, if I flash a new ROM on my device, what happens if I try to restore to the original manifacturer firmware? Does the phone keep it in memory, or does it restore to the new, "clean" firmware?
Sorry for my bad English, I don't know how to explain it better -__-

Install CWM recovery and do a backup maybe it will work if anything goes wrong
This phone is original?
What you could do is flash any Rom you want, that is from a Stock Rom. BUT! Always back up your system so that you can go back to it if something goes wrong.
If you need any help on how to's and stuff like that just tell me and ill help you out.
I'm curious by this system
You can root, install recovery CWM and send me one backup?
at least you can use face unlock after the official ics update
Hello, i bought xperia p in t-mobile, i had this problem from beginning, when someone was calling to me i couldnt answer, because screen didnt respond to touch, i could only push power button to end call and after this it worked, but this happened to me many times, which make this phone unusable. I debranded to soft 6.0.b.3.184, and the same problem occurs. I wanted to send this phone on warranty, but i didnt find t-mobile branded firmware(or it isn't needed for warranty?).
I had this brand before debranded:

I have the same annoying problem.
Same here. Actually, it happens quite often that the screen doesn't respond. Most of the time it can only be resolved by rebooting. I always thought that it was because I use a third party keyboard Swiftkey which was causing this.
I also have this problem and work out with the reboot (power + volume) as suggested [email protected]
