You cannot.
Straight talk runs on att network so you need a gsm 3d phone.
There is no way to flash cdma to anything but boost, cricket, maybe metro PCS.
The x515a evo 3d would be specific for att bands, x515m for USA T-Mobile bands.

I would also be interested in this. I just need to know what would need to be changed. Also, there are plenty of "paid" flashing services that use straight talk for the evo 3d. I also happen to own an active CDMA straight talk phone. Im using the crappy flip phone because I am uncertain what settings need to be migrated.
I have the msl # for my phone, so I can access the menus. I am not asking for instructions, just simply 'The PRL needs to be changed, etc. etc." maybe a quicklist ? I love my evo 3d. Help ?
I am also absolutely positive that my current straight talk phone is CDMA. Maybe they have access to a couple of diff. networks ?
If you are not comfortable putting this into a reply, PM me. I am uncertain what they are, but I know there are some boundaries.
I am also a fairly competent engineer, so there would not be any "hand holding" necessarily.
Using qpst it can access all secret programming of phone, there are about a dozen changes done with that program, then finding compatible prl, MSID #, usually ask your provider. It's like your phone number, but not, usually next area code over.
Pull up some YouTube vids, saw it IS possible. Odd cause str8talk in west is using Sims, anyways google always taught me, take guide for OG EVO, same process.

Nevell posted earlier in his thread that he flashed the evo shift to straight talk. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27079247 should be close to the same for the 3d.

Since Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA is it possible to get the Evo 3D on Verizon?
If so how would I go about doing this?

Well the obvious answer is no But you can hop on the verizon network momentarily if needed although that takes a little bit of tweaking which needs S-off

You can and you can't. It's kind of illegal. Some people would flash certain PRLs, but on their rooted Evo 4G, to get better signal and basically use Verizon coverage, therefor their contract and account terminated. Some people have switched ESN's and MEID numbers on the Evo to work on the verizon, so most likley the evo 3d can do the same as well. Just gotta keep searching.......and good luck.
Or wait till 2012 and thunderbolt 3d comes out lol jk
But yeah you can't have it legally right now
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
I think he is talking about permanently with a Verizon contact. But you can force it to roam with the roam control app in the market. It doesn't require root for HTC devices anymore.

I read somewhere on here that Verizon won't activate a device with an ESN/MEID that didn't originate in their system anymore. If the Evo 3D somehow ended up with an ESN/MEID that came from a Verizon phone I guess they wouldn't know the difference, they'd think that the Evo 3D was that Verizon phone.
I've been trying to Google this and got no results. All the youtubers I asked and all the Google searches I did and I got the same result. The cdma e3d is for the USA and gsm is for the rest of the world...ARRRR! I ALREADY KNOW THAT!
So can someone please explain the internal differences between the cdma and gsm 3d and why can't gsm users flash cdma Roms (if the radio remains untouched). I'm sure I'm not the only 1 wondering why the cdma EVO 3s gets so many more roms than gsm users.
Please don't flame at me if this question has been asked elsewhere.

I was also searching for this and already found out that its kernel related because it has some other drivers and stuff running to maintain the cdma network.
Theres kernel and framework differences. Even if you were to extract a gsm kernel, and put it into a cdma.rom, it still wouldn't work properly. I've looked at the frameworks for both phones, and there was a lot more differences in the code than I had previously anticipated.
The reason there are more cdma roms, is simply because there are more devs/chefs/tweakers that use/have cdma phones.
Also many old & new developers for the CDMA EVO 3D came from the EVO 4G, which had a huge following on the same carrier.
It was like a migration of birds.

Ah, that explains it. I was wondering why there is so much more development going on for the CDMA E3D than the GSM, seeing as how Sprint is the only carrier using the CDMA. Stupid, multiple standards!

Wrong.
Verizon and U.S Cellular both use CDMA.

But do Verizon, US Cellular, or MetroPCS offer the EVO 3D? That's what we're talking about here, the EVO 3D.

I stand by my comment about stupid multiple standards. Get with the rest of the world, U.S. carriers! Stop being different just for the sake of being different.
Now, not knowing anything at all about ROM cooking, will it ever be possible that ROMs for the E3D may be able to support both CDMA and GSM, or is there no way to code that kind of logic?

Well kinda. It's not hard to write the ROM for the gsm EVO if you made a ROM for the cdma 1. But It's hard because It's gonna require testing on a device which the cdma dev does not have.

Hello, I'm checking out the "bay" to find an used Evo 3d with clean esn.
I found one that it's perfect for me but it's only for Sprint networks (CDMA).
I have tried to check if it's possible to port an Evo 3D CDMA phone to other network with one of many IMEI online unlock services.
Surely you'll know this better than me... so I ask the great Xda-dev community to help me know if this is really possible before I buy the phone.
Thanks in advance for ANY reply and sorry for my bad english.

Only networks other than Sprint are Boost, Cricket, Metro PCS. Dev forum has plenty of information on how to get the phone to work on those networks.
Many thanks. So the only chance I have to get a working evo 3d in italy I've to buy a GSM one...

Wasn't there a suggestion that you could remove the wimax part, solder in a sim card sold, and then flash gsm software?
Personally.. I'd just sell the evo 3d and get another phone.
There is a way to get it on Verizon from I have heard. There was some members that had it on Verizon.

Hi guys. In the settings of my gsm evo 3d there isn't the 4g option!!
Why this? And the wimax settings there arent' too!!! Why why!!?
I think you have the GSM version of Evo 3D. Where do you live?
I live in italy. But the 4g doesn't anyway have to be in settings?
The GSM version of the HTC EVO 3D does not support 4G in any way, shape or form.
And the wimax?
The GSM version also doesn't have Wimax. As far as I'm aware (from reading on here) the SIM slot in the GSM version is the same place as the Wimax would be.
All rights thanks. This thread can be closed.

There are a lot of different tech's and the names are often interchanged, it is not surprising people get confused tbh.
Although this gsm evo 3d does support tmobile usa 4g, Hsdpa . The limit on the phone capability is 14mbps
I get speeds of 5-6mbps and 6-7mbps on average around so cal.

hey guys
so i looked around and couldn't find much on EVO V 4G, the Virgin Mobile version of the EVO 3D. it has ICS Sense 3.6 and the bootloader shows 1.57. so i was wondering...has anyone rooted this phone yet? i'm thinking of trying HTC Dev cause that seems to be the only way? and also, if i manage to unlock and root my EVO V 4G, do the ROMs for EVO 3D CDMA work for it? it should right?
my EVO V 4G looks exactly like a EVO 3D, it even says "Sprint" in the front next to the HTC Logo. doesn't show any sign that it's VM unless you turn it on and it shows in the carrier text.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks

There are guides on both android forums and android central on how to root and Rom it but it is basically the same as rooting the evo 3d.
