Phantom voice mail / 9016 texts - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

For the past few years, I've suffered with a lot of you through this issue. After applying fixes that didn't work, I finally stumbled onto something with my EVO LTE. Root Call Blocker has a hand in this. After disabling it, my VVM worked as it should (stock ROM).
Just a heads up...

Sprint VVM fix
I search and searched for a fix to receiving the phantom VM messages coming to my phone when I got a VM. I did an uninstall of the Vm app and re-install. Changed Roms, You name it. Now after all that I am smaking myself in the face.
To resolve the issue
Go to your VoiclMail app
Click on Compose
Click record and then Stop
I then went to share the message, but did not need to. The system recomized what I was doing and synced my messages to the VM application instead of the SMS message I got the Visual messages. YAY!!!!!
Wanted to share this, i hope this helps anyone searching for a Sprint VM solution.
Thanks

Handcent and Visual Voicmail

Since the Evo 3D cannot be rooted yet I am hoping that this is something that can be explained and someone has had similar problem and has a answer.
I have had te Evo 3D since launch day and Handcent is probably the first app I installed on day one ad seemsed to be working just fine until a few days ago.
When I get a voicemail it use to go to the stock visual voicemail but the last few I had gotten my notification started coming from Handcent. It would say I have a message and to call to listen and it would have a 480-970-0000 # to call. Now if I am not mistaken that is a Google voice number but I haven't ever used google voice even though I have a google voice account.
I kept trying to go through Handcent to see if all the settings were correct but I couldn't find anything out of place. Then I did the only thing I could think of and that was to remove handcent and my visual voicemail returned.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to correct it?
I want to keep and use Handcent but I can't figure out why it just started interferring with voicemail.
Can anyone explain this oddity? I hate the stock message app and hope there is a solution because I don't want to have o continue using it and want to us Handcent.
Now I haven't tried to use GoSMS to see if it will work with it but isn't it on the exact same format as Handcent? They are so similar I wonder if they aren't really the same app just different names.
you have to uncheck handcent's setting making it the default messenger. the native sms app has to get the trigger for visual voicemail.
thanks, I was wondering if that would do it. I did uncheck it and voicemails seems to be working properly.....
Where exactly is that option to "uncheck handcent's setting making it the default messenger" can't seem to find it. I myself am having that problem.

I had this problem too and this fixed it for me as well.
In the handcent sms app hit your menu button, go to settings => application settings => default messaging application => disable.
If you intend to only use handcent as I do, make sure to turn off your notifications in the stock messaging app so you don't receive two notifications per 1 message.
Also, on a side note, I had a problem with sending picture messages over handcent, they would always seem to get hung up and not send, but when i tried to send on the stock app it sent just fine. Anyone else have this happen to them?
Thanks for the help, found it!
Also, I get the same problem sometimes when sending picture msgs, where they get "hung up" as you mentioned. Usually when that happens to me, I cancel the picture mail then resend it again. That sometimes works for me.
i have the same problem with gosms but i dont have any option to disable it as the default messaging app

Actually I just went through this and there is a solution that lets you use Handcent and Visual Voicemail.
In Handcent the latest version allows you to make Handcent your default SMS/MMS app. Of course the natural thing to do is select that. Well that's what messes up VVM and causes those annoying text messages instead of the actual voicemails being sent to your device.
Just select "Disable" for that feature. (turn off all notifications on the stock message app so you don't get double notifications).
Next go to VVM and click on the menu and select compose. Put your own phone number in the TO: address field. Next, record a short 1 or 2 second message. Then press send. This will cause VVM to begin working again and in a few seconds any voicmails that are waiting will be sent to your device.
By the way, I've sent the folks at Handcent an email letting them know of this issue. They have yet to respond.
Thanks for the workaround mvansomeren, this was driving me NUTS! All temp fixed thanks to your instructions. Hopefully Handcent will release an update.
I know the feeling! Glad it worked for you as well.

Google Voice Issues

I have no idea what I did but I screwed something up. I prefer GV for my voicemail and have used it for a while using my Sprint number. Recently things got messed up somehow on GV and I had to go through authorization again, but this time I did that thing they are doing to streamline your Sprint and GV number (I never use my GV number anyway). Well, my voicemails goes through GV but so does text when I prefer Handcent for texting. How do I get texts back on Handcent?
Also, how do I prevent duplicate texts sent to the stock messaging app? I keep my text log clean in Handcent only to find all of them stored in the stock app.

you need to install voice on your phone again if you have uninstalled it, then start it up. After you are signed in you need to sign out. Not just close the program, you need to sign out. This same thing happened to me, for 2 days after I uninstalled voice I received zero text messages so I reinstalled it and rooted around until I saw the "sigh out" button. End result is Handcent is working again!!!! Hope this helps. As far as the dup texts,...... no clue I hate that too.
Oh man thanks, that fixed it.
If anyone has info on my 2nd question it would be much appreciated.

Ok, so I did some digging, I am also annoyed by the dup text. My solution was to use root explorer and go into the file system and delete the native messaging app. Hope this helps.
from what I've done lately every time i install voice again, it will disable sending text to your phone, your regular text app, so usually i would need to use a browser to go to my voice page, go to voice settings, edit my number, and check the box that says send text to my phone, hopefully this helps you guys

[Q] Not getting Voicemail notifications Energy Rom/Faux Kernel

I am not getting voicemail notifications. Neither in the status bar nor in T-Mobile's visual voicemail.
I am using the 8/1/12 version of Energy's stock ROM and Faux's v019 kernal. I am using T-Mobile for my voicemail provider and I do not have any custom messaging apps installed.
If I call into voicemail it will tell me when I have a new one waiting. Sometimes when I manually tell visual voicemail to sync it will pull in the new voicemails.
When I go to Settings>Call the "Clear voicemail notification" button will be white when I have a new voicemail, but there will still be no notification in the status bar.
I tried clearing data and uninstalling and re-installing visual voicemail.
I do get text, missed call, and email notifications without a problem.
I have also noticed games like Words with Friends are also not showing notifications in the status bar. Sometimes when I reboot the old notifications for apps and visual voicemail will load, but will not continue to sync.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Any settings I may be overlooking that are causing this behavior?

Thanks PeartFan40.
I was able to get the problem resolve. First I did a fresh flash of the same ROM and then updated to the same kernel. (I had already previously done a factory reset and it hadn't helped.) Then I re-installed just user apps and data through Titanium. The problem persisted.
I then uninstalled visual voicemail and the phone notification popped up letting me know I had a voicemail. I reinstalled visual voicemail and rebooted and again visual voicemail wasn't seeing the voicemail.
Next I tried uninstalling visual voicemail and scramble with friends because both are where I noticed application notifications failing. First I installed visual voicemail. After I rebooted visual voicemail recognized the new message as it should. Then I installed scramble with friends and it's notifications started to work.
I don't know how phone notifications such as missed calls and texts are different than application notifications, but in the end it appeared to be an application notification error.
After poking around through other posts and websites it seems that scramble with friends may have been what was creating the issue. I don't think it liked being restored from Titanium backup instead of being installed from the app store.
Either way my problem is now fixed. If anyone has any idea as to what may have caused the issue based on this new information, I would still be interested in hearing the answer. Thank you.

[Q] Anyone manage to get Google Voice voicemail integrated into the call log/dialer

I just upgraded from my Samsung Captivate which was running CM10 to the HTC One. One of the things I loved about the old phone was that all my voicemails would show up in my call log and I could play them from there. When I tried setting up GV on the new phone, I got a bunch of error messages and somehow the phone removed my old call forwarding rules and then couldn't reapply them. So I logged out of the Google Voice app and tried again. No dice. Finally, I went back and did it the old fashioned way by manually typing in the MMI code and managed to get the calls forwarded again to GV. When I went to the dialer app to manually switch the voicemail provider to GV, I again get the error messages and when it asks to still switch to the new provider I click OK. However, it kicks out another error message and then shows that nothing has changed and still lists AT&T as the default voicemail provider. So, has anyone managed to get this working properly or have AT&T and HTC once again colluded to completely bork functionality that works oh so well on stock Android?
Just got a response to my support request from HTC. Laughably, they claim they "cannot guarantee full functionality with Play Store applications." That is pretty pathetic. In their quest to differentiate, they eliminated one of the best features of Android in my mind. I hated dialing numbers and using the dialpad to access and control voicemail years ago. When Google made Google Voice available on Android, it was one of the factors that made me choose it over the iPhone. Then they made it even better than visual VM on iOS by integrating it into the dialer. This dialer from HTC is a huge step in the wrong direction. I don't need all this FB and Twitter integration crap. Just let me access my VM in the best possible way.
I have it working but I never got it to work using the Google voice app configuration.
It was still working when I swapped my son card to the HTC one from my gs3.
I had to go into the phone app and change the forwarding numbers manually. Also the voice mail number.
If that doesn't work I think you can contact at&t and they can fix it for you.
Wait...you have your Google voice voicemails showing up in the dialer app so that you can click play and listen to them without going into the GV app? I did manage to get the forwarding set up, but I want the voicemails to show in the dialer like they did on CM10.
Not working on Sprint and HTC One either

Same issue, voicemail set up, but I can not get the call log to show voicemails. Tried unchecking voicemail display as indicated in other forums, but doesn't work either way.
Bump...no dialer integration or notifications is a big problem for me as well.
Instead of making a new thread I will just bump this one. Did anyone managed to get they HTC One to integrate Google Voice visual voicemail into the dialer? I searched everywhere but couldn't find any info on that.
Maybe there are any 3rd party modifications that can fix this issue?
p.s Just to clear things for someone who reads between the lines my GV Voicemail is working fine, what I am trying to figure out is how to integrate it into dialer and get visual voicemail from there.

No luck. I stopped trying. I may give it another go.
Just installed ARHD Google edition Rom and visual google voice voicemail works great in there, but I prefer Sense based Rom so will go back to it. Shame visual voicemail doesn't work on it, seems like HTC broke the compatibility.
If anyone knows a solution that would be great!

What are you guys using for Voicemail with your roms?

So I like a lot of the roms out there that I've tried. But my biggest thing on most is Verizon's stupid VoiceMail app... Most of them don't have it installed and the copy of the app I have found usually doesn't work or crashes non-stop after I install it from TWRP.
I know there's YouMail (I think that's what it's called.) but I wasn't a big fan.
Is there either a way to stop getting the garbled text message when not using the verizon app or what?
I've noticed that if I don't use a rom with the Voicemail app I either don't get Voicemails or I get the garbled text message and it still doesnt' really work correctly.
I get my voicemail thru Google voice, but I also use the vzw messages+ app so no garbled texts. Well other then some rather humorous renderings of a computer program having problems figuring out some Oklahoma and Texas accents.

Yep you should be able to install the My Verizon app from play store. If not use http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ and sideload it.
Youmail sucks because of their horrible contact sync. It messes everything up. However someone made a different app for the service called Better Youmail and it is phenomenal!
I ended up contacting verizon on there twitter support page and they disabled basic visual voicemail and I've been back to using just the old one since.

Jasmine ROM and Visual Voice Mail.
Flawless.
If anyone is on an AOSP ROM and getting funky SMS messages instead of voicemail notifications:
Condition:
You are running without Verizon VVM "Messaging" app installed.
Symptoms:
When someone leaves a voicemail, you get a SMS message with a bunch of header info. The message starts with //VVMMMS... and usually includes the caller's number somewhere in the string.
You do not get a standard notification of a voicemail (no envelope in the notifications and/or status bar.
Information:
It is likely that your account is setup for Basic Visual Voicemail. The messages that you are receiving are push control messages that stock-installed Verizon apps would pick up and use to generate their own notifications. Since VVM is not installed, they come across as regular SMS messages.
Verizon has 3 different voicemail offerings at present: Voicemail, Basic Visual Voicemail, and Premium Visual Voicemail; the latter is usually a paid service. Based on which is included with your account/line, they determine how the notification should be sent; the app is a key component in the proprietary service.
Solution:
You may contact Verizon at their support 800 number and go through the prompts to get technical support. When you get there, ask them to change your voicemail setting to "IMS Voicemail" instead of "IMS Visual Voicemail Basic." This should allow you to get the standard notification and call *86 when you tap it. Keep in mind that this is something done on the carrier's side, so if you decide to install VVM or use a stock ROM that includes it, the functionality will not be there. If the paid service was included as part of your contract, you may have some difficulty in getting them to change the setting back to "IMS VVM Basic" without an additional fee.
If you install hangouts, you can configure your voicemail to go to the hangouts app. Not only will it transcribe it so you can read it, you can play it right from a thread like an sms message.
It's very neat.
I use Google Voice and have been for a few years. I like the fact they transcribe the voicemail for you. Also, anytime someone leaves a voicemail or I get a missed call, i get an email on my gmail account. The missed call emails are a life saver especially when the phone never rings to notify you of a missed call to start with which has happened to me a couple of times. You can also text and make phone calls from the Google Voice app as well.

It wasn't horrible, I just didn't like having an app like that. I know everything we do even on our phones is being watched/stored somewhere by someone most likely.
But I just didn't like having yet another party having access to my things. It worked, setting up the voicemail message with a slight pain for a bit till I got it working right.
The notifications worked, people didn't have issues leaving me messages etc. It worked is the main thing. I just personally didn't care for it.
Now that I'm back to using plain voicemail without the visual VM etc I'm happy with that.
