Only incoming calls and sms are working, outgoing isn't - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, maybe anyone of you have an idea, I can't make calls or send sms and the mobile data isn't working, too, atm. But incoming everything is working.

Have you by any chance changed network and getting your number ported? If so it's now done in stages (well in the UK anyway) and you have split personality for a while (all incoming on one sim and all outgoing on the other) until the port completes.
If you're not porting your number, do you have the same issues with your sim in another phone? Have a word with you provider too.

Hm, I had to cut my sim to a microsim for the gs3, so I can't test it with my old phone, but my sister is on the same provider and she hasn't any problems. I defenetly don't port my number to another sim.

Maybe something went wrong when cutting your sim? You could get an adapter so that you can try it in another phone. I simply asked my provider for a micro sim, so I don't know much about the cutting them down, sorry.

Indeed, ask your provider for a microsim then see what happens

Hmm, curious, now it works again flawless. maybe I have to perfectionize my cutted simcard a little bit

Urgent Help! Can't Answer Calls???

For some reason my rooted stock S2 (from Bell unlocked using on Rogers) can't answer calls. I can call out without any problems but if someone is calling me, it'll hang up on them as soon as I answer. They then get a busy signal.
Any ideas?

Can't find phone.apk.... I deleted the cache of dialer.apk and the problem still remains. I also completely turned off call blocking and everything.
When I answer a call, it immediately disconnects.
This is interesting to hear. My wife and i are both on rogers. She has a rooted and rommed captivate and i have a rooted and rommed nexus s. We are both having the same issues for that last couple days. Weird stuff. Never happened before.
I put my SIM card into my wife's S2 (also stock and rooted) and it works properly. Accepts incoming calls. So it must be something with my device specifically and not network related. Strange... I've removed any possible suspect apps to no avail so far. Perhaps a core app update is the culprit.
Ya I am confused lol. I have been on the same rom for a few weeks now. Just started happening to both of us all of a sudden. Not sure if it is a certain app that we both have installed and its screwing up our phones? Just not sure at all.

Please let me know if you find a solution. I am trying a few things but no luck
I've been having the same issue with incoming calls all weekend, in my case I was able to rule out hardware by swapping SIMs with another Rogers phone.
On the phone a few times with Rogers Tec Support and I was told this was an issue on their end, from what I'm told it's related to the Rogers One Number service which I did register for a couple of months back. Although I don't use the RON service anymore it's still active on my account.
I just had Tec Support remove it from my account and am just now getting my incoming calls again.

This may be it. I recently signed up for Rogers One Number but never use it. That's the difference me and the wife's S2. She's not registered for One Number. Hmmmm..... But it's weird that my SIM accepts incoming calls on her device though.

[Q] not accepting sim cards (no sim, emergency calls only)

so i'm trying a fix a galaxy note att branded i717 note. my friend bought it craiglslist. here's what happens.
phone simply will not accept ANY att sim card. either "active" sim or fresh unactivated sim. same goes for tmobile sim cards. in both cases it will show "no sim/emergency calls only".
fine. i was under the impression that it should ask for some unlock code after inserting tmobile sim card, but it doesnt do that. clearly other MVNO sims didn't work either. note - both att and tmbole sims are 89014xxxxx
interestingly i had a foreign sim card (NON 89014xxxx....). => this works! instead of "no sim/emergency calls only", i simply get no service but no errors either!
WHAT is wrong with this phone? blacklisted? hardware fault? flash a different rom? any ideas?
Possible Sim card port damage...
A common problem with this device ....however, without knowing the history of the device, it becomes very difficult to diagnose...
But I'm leaning toward the Sim slot being damaged, as we have several threads on the subject ...g

well there's your problem, i hope you didn't spend too much on it.
I think he paid around 310. But the phone was in like new condition. If the SIM slot us damaged then why it would only reject tmob, att ones? It should reject every sim.
thx for ur responses. Appreciate it

I think I can help. Try resetting your phone, reinstalling the rom, or there is a bad thing going on with your phone. Are you sure itbis from AT&T? If the SIM card slots do not work, gently use a cloth to clean them. Is it a micro SIM card or did you cut a regular one down yourself? thank me if anything I mention fixes the problem.
hi, thanks everybody for posting. some strange things happening.
I tested two Tmobile MVNO (ultra and ptel) sim cards, both work! I didn't try simple mobile yet.
i found ONE tmobile and ONE at&t sim card that gets read properly. then i tried few other att/tmobile sim cards and they are rejected. !!!??!!!
I think i need to go the debug mode and change some settings there? *#197328640#
clearly sim slot is not broken. imei is not blocked.

pairing via bluetooth with no sim

wondering what difference is running the watch via Bluetooth and running it sim card , aside of course the fact that you don't need to have your phone within proximity.
also wondering how this would work with a sim card when you leave your phone at home , does the sim have the same phone number as your current cell number ? kinda weird almost like a cloned sim card no ?

I was kinda wondering about how that works myself. I wouldn't want another line or number for my watch, but an extension of my phone. One number, 2 devices, is that possible?

I'd like to know this also. I'd imagine it'll belike the PS Vita. Use a simcard for 3G Data only.

It depends on your carrier if it allows, 1 number on2 devices is quite possible.
Sent from Galaxy Note 3 (The beauty & beast)
Id also like to know how this works too. I would love it to use the same number as my phone. :victory:
It is called Multi-SIM.
You get 1 MSISDN (tel no) but multiple IMSI (the registration number on the SIM card). Some internal routing makes it possible to receive calls and SMS on 1 SIM, but you can make calls and SMS on all SIMs.
At least that's how it works here in Malaysia.
The telco Maxis allows up to 6 IMSIs per MSISDN, 1 primary and 5 subs.

Although in Malaysia they may have multi sim carriers I work for bell mobility and I'm pretty confident in saying that in Canada and the usa none are multi sim carriers.
Here is how I think it will work, you get a new number on a standalone $10 plan or either on a $10 share plan with your phone line. Once the watch is disconnected from Bluetooth on the phone the phone will forward calls to the number on the watch.
Just a theory though won't know much until we get it

will it also forward emails and messeges?
I would think you would just set the email up on the gear s and the texts would be forwarded the same way calls are

Thx. Im hoping exchange Emails work.
I am wondering as well as I have Sprint with UCCI cards and not SIM card so how does this work when it's tied to a SIM card. Basically they would treat the gear S as a Tablet only plan. so instead of the 10$ for the tablet plan it's the gear S. And what happens when you go over your data minutes I'm unlimited on my Note 4 but it say's the gear S will come with 500mb a month I'm confused

T-Mobile main SIM, Verizon Secondary?

What's up everyone.
Quick question to see if anyone has tried.... If I put a T-Mobile SIM in the OPX and a Verizon SIM as a secondary, I'm wondering what will happen?
I have a work phone and a personal and am tired of carrying both. I need the Verizon SIM to get ONLY phone calls and text messages. I don't care about data. That's what the T-Mobile SIM is for. Also, how would the OPX handle phone calls? Will is ask me each time I make a call which phone number to use?
Will this work? Anyhone tried it? I've got a OPX on order via eBay and should be here next week. If no one knows, I'll have to post back.

I dont think the OPX supports CDMA networks... Only GSM and even that is not fully supported.
Well, I received the One plus X on Monday and have had a few days to play around. I am truly impressed. The build quality is fantastic and it the PERFECT size for me. Slightly larger than the iPhone 6 but a 5" screen. With respect to signal and T-Mobile Bands.... I haven't run into any problems here in Southern California. LTE everywhere.
Unfortunately, my simple experiment of getting verizon voice and text setup as a second SIM did not work. It does detect the phone number but no service. Oh well.

Where did you purchase the phone? I've been looking at the 7.2, but I can't get a straight answer if the US version supports dual SIM. The models I do see for sale that explicitly state dual sim are lacking US LTE bands. Perhaps you have one of those?

That's a good point I had not considered. I know I was trying to help the OP, but we were not successful.
I have model TA-1178 and it works fine on MetroPCS; however the SIM card tray only has one opening. The location for the second SIM is outlined but not removed 'cutout'.
I purchased mine Unlocked from Best Buy, and it is listed as Dual SIM. I just never paid much attention as it was a feature I did not need / want.
