Notification Bar - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
This is maybe (probably) a really stupid question.....well two....
First time with ICS, but with android since 1.6....
Where have my notifications bar gone? at the top... to now see what email/text/missed calls/etc must I really drag the bar down just to see? all there is, is a minus symbol box thing.
But I cant find a setting to do it the "old" way with them sitting there to be seen without using the drop down box., or isnt there an option? with lcs?
Secondly the speaker works fine, but despite turning everything up in the sounds option im not getting any sound notifications for email or text messages.... yes its not on silent is there a menu ive lost in transit?
/facepalm

Mail and SMS Icon notification?

Ok I am trying to find a way to turn off the Mail Icon and SMS icon that show up on the top bar when either of these types of messages come in. Now I did find two ways to do this, but that also turns off the notification sound. Details below.
The one I found to turn off the SMS was:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings - SMSAvailable DWORD=0
The one I found to turn off the email was:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\
{A877D65A-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408} - Options DWORD=536870912 (decimal)
When I would either get a SMS or Email, the notification light would flash, and on TF3D It would show the number count of new messages without the redundant icon in the tray showing too. I thought GREAT! But then I tested it a few times even though I though it was working was no alert sound.
Basically what I am trying to do is keep the same functionality but without the extra icons in the tray. I do not know why I need both a new email/sms count with the TF3D as well as the same notification in the tray.
Anyone out there have any ideas, or clues????
As far as i know when you change the value in the reg to "536870912 (decimal)" for email notifications, that your are actually disabling notifications altogether for that function. Meaning that i dont think you can disable the icon without also disabling the the sound.
I feel you on the whole 2 notifications thing being kind of redundant. This has also bothered me for some time now.
My olny thought would be to maybe replace the icon with a blank icon but i dont know maybe somebody else has a better idea
OK this might sound stupid... How does one replace those icons? I have thought of that as well. But I have not seen a jpg, gif, png of any sort on this device of those icons?
I can make the icons easy once I know the process to replace them. Anyone able to assist in that process?
The icons are stored in dll files, so you cant just replace them with another icon real easily. I dont know too much about this, i still have some reading to do.
FInixNOver has a nice thread explaining it though.

I might try doing something this weekend on it but im busy the rest of today. I think post #5 on that thread is were the SMS and Email icons are discussed.

Thanks for this, as I was looking for a way to disable the email taskbar notification and this seems to be working fine.
While I would also like to disable the SMS taskbar notification, that one's not as critical to me right now. Seems like there should be a way to separate out the taskbar notification from the others. After all, sound and led notifications are broken out separately, why not the taskbar notification? As usual, something that should have been added into WM long ago but still hasn't been...
Did someone manage to fix the issue? I have the same need as rdhose.

How to remove blocking mode notification in status bar?

I really like the blocking mode built into the os, but is there any way to remove the notification from the status bar when blocking mode is enabled?
Sendt fra Tapatalk
I have same query
I was wondering the same thing , its great but also a bit annoying being in the notification bar
Not that i know of, but it should stay there, you need to know it's on since it disables key functions.
I noticed that, while blocking mode was enabled, whatsapp sounds still go off in the middle of the night.

True, but we don't need to know it's enabled when it's not doing anything. If you set the between time it should disappear when it's not affecting anything.
Looking for a way to get Tasker of NFC Task list to enable and disable it.
Yeah... this notification is pretty annoying...
I hate it too... And just like everything else it shows how samsung can't make 100% good software.... Everything is always "almost good"... There is always something that spoils everything... That's why I can't stay with sammy rom for too long...

when you try to change the sound of notifications in whatsapp, and you select "Default ringtone" it doesn't use the notification ringtone, it uses your call ringtone, it's really annoying, but I think that's why, it's whatapp's fault
really hate this "feature" to notify me about blocking mode not being enabled...
annoying
yeah I agree this thing is completely annoying, it should be in the status bar when on, not when off! Image having a notification all the time that says your alarm is scheduled to go off in 8 hours.

that's the beauty of technology.. nothing is "perfect" otherwise, if everything is perfect on sammy then we wouldn't be in XDA now, would we?
I managed to hack away this notification!
The process is relatively lengthy, and does require a rooted, deodexed ROM... But it works!
The notification will be COMPLETELY removed - it will not show up even when blocking mode IS actually active (i.e. during the active hours).
Anyway, in case you're interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32872016#post32872016

isn't it easier to access the resources folder, look for the block mode icon and delete it?

I'm not sure if that'd work. It might remove the icon from the notification bar (the thin one on top), but likely not the ongoing notification when you drag it down fullscreen.
I'll try tomorrow and post it, but I think I remember seeing all that icons (the quick settings icons too) in system framework...
JFYI, I've put a couple of CWM zips together, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943987
By the way, couldnt find the icons on framework.apk
if you pull down your notification bar and press and hold blocking mode notification you will see app info, click on that and you should see a box about notifications and if you uncheck that the icon and notification will go away.

You can't uncheck this one, it's checked and greyed out (in other words permanent).

Annoying Notification on Lockscreen

I am rooted, and am curious if there is any way to replace the version of the lockscreen that comes with the s4 with a version that doesn't have the annoying yellow notification that pops up every time. I tried Nils and Dashclock, but the default notification takes focus and I have to swipe back to get to the notification screen I want to see. There doesn't seem to be a way to disable the stock notification, so I was wondering if it is possible to replace it so that these programs can work like they are supposed to?

What "yellow notification" are you talking about? Are you talking about that kind of "sunburst" effect when you first turn your screen back on? If so, you can change that at Settings> My device>Lock screen>Unlock effect

It's not a transition effect, it's a notification of a missed call or a new text. I have Nils notification widget as the only window on my lock screen. When I get a new text it opens up another window and shows me a notification of who texted me. I have to swipe back to see the Nils notification widget. I haven't been able to find out how to turn it off that default notification and still recieve notifications through other widgets. I have seen threads at adroidfourms with people asking the same question, but there doesn't seem to be an easy fix.

What do you use for Notifications?

Coming from a LGv20, where I used the following combo: Cute little bar at the top showed time & an icon for missed notifications (similar to the Always On Display), and an app called Dynamic Notifications.
The idea on the 2 of those, was: If I got a notification while I was able to look at my phone, Dynamic would show it to me, along with a preview of what the message is. You can slide to open it, ignore it for now, or delete it (depending on the app). If I wasn't looking at my phone, I'd at least see an icon on the top bar so I knew to go look.
AOD does fine for the time & you missed a notification, but when I get one, and my phone is sitting next to me, it's annoying to unlock the phone to check the notification.
Sadly, AOD & Dynamic notifications don't seem to work well together.
--
Now when the phone is on, I'm not getting my heads-up notifications, and I don't know i the LG did it on its own..o what. So I'm using an app called Heads-up at the moment. Heads-up also has a turn-on-phone feature, so I'm testing it and AOD display as a combination.
Oddly though, Go SMS isn't working with Heads-up, and I'm not always getting the Go SMS built in popup.
---
SO.. what is everyone doing for notification, both with phone on & off?
One last thing - edge lighting - looks neat, but I never put my phone face down. Would kind of kill AOD anyway, no?

Changing color, activation of Notifications?

On the S6, when I swipe down from the top of the screen, the giant notification window shows up. This is marginally annoying normally since my home page background is 14% neutral gray, but EXTREMELY annoying at night when I'm reading on the tablet and accidentally cause the notifications to display... My bookreader is a dark-mode setup, and the notifications are blinding white when they display (yes, the screen brightness is about 10-12, but compared to the reader it's blinding)...
I've currently got the tablet in Night mode, which makes the giant notification thing black, so it's not as annoying, but it still keeps getting displayed 'cause of hand position and tablet orientation. And Night mode isn't great for "normal" use so I much prefer something that'll actually help with the notification display.
SO....
Is there a way, even if I have to use a different launcher (I'll need to know which one) to CHANGE the background color of the notification thing (and hopefully the navigation bar background)? I tried Nova Launcher, and it has things that SEEM like they should do something, but they don't change the huge white blob that appears when I swipe down.
Is there a way to CHANGE how notifications get displayed - turn OFF the swipe down from the top of the screen and use something else? If so, how do I set this up? "Do Not Disturb" mode doesn't seem to help.
Is there a way to COMPLETELY turn OFF notifications so swiping does nothing. I can't FIND anything in settings, but I figure I'm missing the "turn off notifications" switch.
I'm also interested in what answers may come. For me it's just about the color; even though I'm dark-themed everywhere using "Swift Installer - Themes & color engine", it doesn't theme the notification panel. Since the theme works everywhere else (even on system apps), this makes me think that 'notifications' is a special case, for some reason.
Curious to hear from others.
Have you tried QuickStar inside of GoodLock app from the Samsung Store? there are lots of mods you can do in there like change the color of the notification pull down.
Thanks. That works pretty well. I can change all the colors on the notification so at least the notification is a black background.
Status bar at the bottom is still bright but that's smaller than the big notification thing. Definitely makes me miss the old Android 6 thing where it just put a couple tiny icons at the top and I had to specifically hit them to see notifications. Never accidentally opened the notifications.
Is there any way to CHANGE the activation for the notifications so they DON'T show up when I don't want them to?
