ok, so i lost my phone a while back and got a replacement for it... same phone and everything... well i find it and charge it and all my old stuff is stil on there... so i do a factory data reset and the majority of my stuff is STILL on there... ok, so i go ahead and RSD flash it with 198_7, hoping that this would do the trick... my info is STILL on there...
i've already tried removing the account from the accounts app in my list, but it won't let me since it doesn't get service... does anyone know anything that i can do to remove my stuff so i can pass the phone on to whoever???
Put it on Wifi?
Oh and you won't be able to do much with that phone. Highly likely since you reported it missing the ESN is locked down. Got your self a Wifi enabled MP3 Player now.

in order for it to be connected to any hotspot, its got to have service... i've tried that one too and it keeps telling me "ERROR" every time i hit the WiFi button...
Is your phone unlocked and has a custom rom? Because it sounds like you are on a phone with a fried wifi radio or your on a rom that was having issues with the wifi drivers like an old joker blur rom but if your unlocked and have cwm just wipe everything

nope... nothing special about it... i did have it rooted and locked... that's about it... i already flashed the stock 198_7 on it to unroot it and back to factory settings... only thing i'm trippin on is the fact that some of my stuff still remains on this damn thing... idk why the "factory data reset" doesn't want to work either... goes through the motions but no results...
Hello,
As for passing it on to a friend, Metro PCS used to not check for bad ESN's when Activating Phones, but this might have changed now that they are selling Cell Phones. That indeed does not make sense that your information is still on there after doing a Factory Reset. I suppose you could connect it to your Notebook and delete all Files with any Personal Information.
Cheers,
JJ
How are you doing your hard reset? A hard reset erases all your data. I think booting into recovery, pushing the volume up and down keys at the same time, and then selecting "wipe data/factory reset" would do it right.
Undertstand that you also would need to do stuff with the phone programming - your phone number and some other account information would be in there. when I got my phone (used), Spring had me do something to wipe everything including the programming information. Of course I didn't take notes, so I don't know how to do it again.
This is probably a dumb question, but have you removed your sd chip?

So yesterday i bought a vibrant on craigslist (stupid) checked it out for a while and everything worked perfect.... after paying and going our ways i went to make a call but it just said dialing for about a minute then hung up, then i went to send a txt and the sending failed. It says it has a full signal and it says 3g/edge (internet wont work either). i found if i restart the phone or turn airplane mode on/off i can place a call or send a txt or two before it starts failing again.
Its on 2.1update1, baseband t959uvjfd, kernel 2.6.29.... Any ideas on how to fix or am i screwed???
Well, that's a stock rom so either he never flashed anything or reverted back to the stock rom when he started having problems. I don't have any definate answers, but all I can suggest is to try flashing a new modem and/or rom and see if that fixes it. Realistically you're not under warranty, so you've got nothing to lose.
The sticky at the top of this thread can help direct you on how to do it.
Okay ill try a new rom and see if that helps. Any suggestions on a good one? also when i hit check for an update it says no firmware dont know if that helps anything or not.

Nope, there's no official updates past what you're running. I personally use Eugene373's Ginger Clone R2. Runs very smooth. Everything's about personal preference though
I suggest using odin to see if it fixes the problem.

Well the rom should have included a different modem, so I doubt that will help. Sounding more and more like a hardware issue unfortunately

Well.....I guess what I would do is hold out for a day or two to see if you get in additional (hopefully better) help. If nothing comes along, call T-Mobile and try to talk them into a replacement.
Hmm.... so i was playing around with settings and it seems that when i put it to gsm only network mode everything works its just on edge... its been 15 min so far and its still working. If i switch it back to use both or wcdma only it stops working again. Any thoughts?
Been a couple days and ive tried a couple different roms/modems and it will still only work in gsm only mode. Any thoughts or does it sound like a hardware problem?
I've had this problem when there is a network outage. Did you ever have good 3g in your area?
The weirdest thing is when I'm traveling, and 3g drops off, it auto switches to gsm no problem. If I'm at home and there is a 3g network issue it will not auto switch, but I switch to gsm only and edge works fine.
I've had that issue on two vibrants now. And luckily, it can be fixed but you need to odin to fix it.
First, make a back up of your efs partition (using a computer is easiest, adb pull /efs). This will make a backup of the files needed to do any future unlocking.
Next, odin to jfd. With reparation checked as well as "clear phone efs". Then, you won't have that issue (at least for quite a while).
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
Follow this exactly to get back to stock 2.1, this will reset your baseband, kernel, modem and you'll have a functioning phone:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Then you can root your phone and download a new rom!
No theres no outage my hd2 gets 3g perfectly fine... and i tried to odin jfd and all that but still only works when on edge only...

What does clear phone efs do, or rather, what is EFS?

/efs is your radio control partition. And every once in a while, stuff gets messed up there and you need to clear (reset) it using odin. The only thing is, if you don't make a backup of it, you'll lose your unlock code.

You have the correct plan on this line? Long shot but might help. Regardless of warranty I would flash it to bone stock and call t mobile and see what they can do. Maybe they can boost the signal or send a new sim. Could be that simple.

Hi Guys, I am new to android and one of my friends convinced my to root my thunderbolt. I did it and everything worked fine, then i flashed many different roms on to it using rom manager. I kept flashing roms because none of the roms I flashed would let me connect to mobile network. (I used the mr2 radio) So then I "tried" to flash just the thunderstick 3.0 lockscreen, because i thought it wasn't like a full rom, and everything was normal but then when it was out of recovery mode and the HTC logo came on everything looked fine. But after that the wallpaper of the 3.0 lockscreen came and nothing else the 3.0 ring didnt come or anything else. It just froze on the wallpaper. the only thing i could do was put it to sleep and turn it back on. I tried to press the power button and the volume down button at the same time, but nothing happened. I also took the battery out and put it back it in and it froze on the wallpaper again, just like the last time. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
P.S - I'm sorry if some stuff i said didnt make much sense, I'm really new to this.
Flash a workin nandroid, and try chingys new radio leak, if that doesnt get your radio workin you probly need a new sim card

I would, but when I connect the phone to my computer, nothing happens!
Since your pc doesn't recognize you phone, pull the sd card out, and then put a rom on it. One that you know will work. Delete any PG05IMG.zip file off the root of the ad card. Then put the sd card back in, put your battery in, and boot into the bootloader by holding volume - and power button. If you can boot to the bootloader, select the recovery, and wipe data /cache / and dalvik. Then flash your rom. If you can get your rom to boot and still have not data connection, reflash a radio.

Ahh finally some good news, I just got of the phone with Verizon and they said that they would send a new phone to me by mail!! ohh yeah I couldn't do what n8theshredder said, because my computer (2010 macbook pro) doesn't have a place for a micro SD card, but anyways i really appreciate you guys trying to help!!
You requested a replacement phone because you flashed a problematic lockscreen? wow
So many ways this could have been fixed.
I realize you said you had radio problems but I'm not convinced you ever actually installed the correct radio for whatever rom you flashed. Eh...guess it's too late to fix your problems now.
Question about sending it back to Verizon. Can't they tell you rooted it? Doesn't that void the warranty? I'm having similar problems and I'd love to send it back, but I don't want to pay full price just yet. If you get this posting, could you reply and let me know how it went?

Hey guys I have some problems with my tbolt. I am trying to avoidgetting a refurbished if possible but my phone is terrible right now. I was running cm7 when I first started having problems. My wifi and Bluetooth stopped working. I figured it was cm7 so I switched back to a sense base. No luck. Now I'm geting rebootsconstantly when the phone isn't being used. I'm typing on it right now but if I set it down for 3 minutes it power cycles twice and then cuts off completely. I have used different batteries and cases and I've tried a sense and a also Tom... multiple kernals and radios. Its frustrating. To say the least. If anyone has any guesses or further troubleshooting Before I am forced to call and get a refurb.... please let me know! The battery is not loose btw as I can shake it as much as I need and it wont cut off until I lay it down still. And it works fine while its charging or if I'm playing on it.
Only things I can think of, and these are pure guesses, are - try powering it off and removing the SIM card for a minute or two. If that don't work, maybe try formating your SD card in recovery (after you back it up to your PC of course).
Are you getting these reboots while in recovery? Also, are you restoring anything with titanium backup (or a similar app)?
Again, these are simply guesses... Seems like you already tried everything that I would have tried already.
Good luck!

No restarts in recovery ... I will take the SD out and try that for the time being as I don't have a PC nearby and ill ty that with the sim as well
Removed SD card and reinserted sim... no luck
Man, that is bizarre! Not too sure what else to tell you other then restoring back to stock and sending it back.
Maybe someone else will stumble across this thread and offer you some different advice ... Good luck!
Well, how about another shot in the dark.....
Wipe EVERYTHING. Just go down the list on "mounts and storage" and wipe it all. I don't think you have anything to lose at this point. That would be what I'd be doing.

+1 what he said! I would make a backup of the important stuff on the SD card and wipe everything possible and start from scratch. I might even unroot and go back to 100% stock for a day or so and see if you get reboots and issues then. If you dont reroot and try a fresh install of a ROM. If you get reboots go back to stock again. It won't be a quick process but at least you will figure out what is going on. If stock gives you reboots then it's time to make VzW give you a new phone.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I have a phone on the way. Until then I think I may have found a temporary fix.... leaving a song playing in the background with the media volume turned all the way down. ... the phone doesn't cut off.... weiiiirrd. I may have failed to mention it too but I haven't had wifi or Bluetooth for a while either. Thanks for ur help
Damn, that is weird as hell!
Hope the "new" phone works out well for you...

So, I've been jumping back and forth between Atrix CM9 and CM7 roms and running the .36p radio. Yesterday on CM9, i started getting a large amounts of random reboots and finally got things settled by doing a factory reset in CWM and flashing a clean cm9 rom. However, whenever I turned on wifi, the phone would crash and reboot to the Dual Core logo. I tried flashing another CM9 rom and it didn't crash, but the wifi radio would never seem to pick up any AP's (i'm at home).
I've gone as far as changing to the .37p radio and going back to cm7 to no avail... I'm a bit worried I might have "fried" the wifi radio on the phone.
Did you do a full wipe? Use fastboot to wipe properly before flashing any ROM. Plenty of threads with instructions.

Looking at the fast boot command, I'm not sure how that does anything different then the clockwork mod wipe... but I will give it a shot.

Sorry, but your wifi/bluetooth card is dead. My Atrix got the exact same symptoms a few days ago. Both WiFi and bluetooth are on the same chip. When the system tries to reference them, it fails to locate the hardware and crashes/reboots.
In fact, in researching this topic, I found dozens of threads about this. We should make a sticky about it at this point. Best Buy was kind enough to take back my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm, custom fonts, startup, etc.) if I restored it all to stock. If you want Motorola/AT&T/the store you purchased it at to not void your warranty, you should flash the 2.3.6 SBF. Just be cautious and read all about it. But that is the only way that Motorola will service a modded phone

Nothing like the same. Clockwork wipe only does data and cache. You erase boot, system, preinstall, cache, user, webtop, etc., via fastboot. I've posted the procedure probably more than 20 times before.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Yeah unfortunately even after a fastboot wipe, the phone's bluetooth and wifi were gone. I was also over the year warranty. Luckily, I picked up a barely used one on Craigslist and restored my backup to it. Now i've got an expensive battery charger (and spare phone should i need it).
If there were any tips you'd have on restoring to a new phone? I've restored my phone a lot and worked on a lot of android phones (I work at a repair shop), but I've never restored data/settings from one phone to another. Of course its the same model, but I can only imagine the issues that could arise out of such an operation
Thanks!
I just made sure I did a fastboot full wipe of the new phone, then placed my clockworkmod directory on the internal (external should be ok too) storage and did a restore. After the restore, I re-flashed the latest version of the rom I was running on top of it with Google apps and it booted fine. Afterwards, I made sure to do a permissions repair and reboot.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. Like me for example :[
So far there is no solution that I'm aware of, after trying practically everything I could think of and find on the internet... I'm pretty sure it's hardware related. I bet the phone just isn't very high quality. How much did it cost again? $600? + all of the dumb accessories for it. Normally when you see a pattern of failures you would call it a design flaw, but apparently when it comes to expensive electronics they call it out of warranty.

For anyone interested, here is a supposed solution to the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk
It will require you to open the phone up, and solder the "wifi battery" into place. I'm not sure what the hell that thing is, but that guy in the video called it a battery. Voids warranty etc. Good luck.

Hey Guys/Gals!
I (stupidly) jumped into rooting too quickly. It's a great option for really getting the true potential out of your android IMO, but I (having no knowledge of the possible issues of rooting) really messed me up here.
I have a Samsung Mega SGH - I527 and I have no clue what version of android it was originally running.
Basically, one day I was on base with my cell phone in my pocket, and this was about a week after i rooted with a program I believe was called "kingo". I went to pull it out of my pocket, and the screen was not responding to touch. I wasn't doing anything unusual and there aren't any signs of damage of any physical kind. I freaked out on the spot, and realized it must have been the root.
I rebooted the phone, and touch came back. I rejoiced, then freaked out as about 15 - 30 seconds later, the touch went bad again.
It then stayed not working until I rebooted again, and again, and again, until I managed to get to the Factory Reset settings in that little tiny window of time.(a small note while on this subject: not every reboot got me that little bit of time to use the touch, and the amount of time i had to use the touch screen was never consistent from what i could tell.)
From here on out, just troubleshooting steps already tried:
- factory reset on phone in phones UI (did not fix)
- factory reset on phone with bootloader menu (did not fix)
- using Odin 3.07 to put supposed stock firmwareback on the device (did not fix)
- took apart phone to make sure digitizer/lcd cable was seated properly on the motherboard (did not fix)
Any Ideas? just trying to do something that makes this thing NOT a $500 shiny paperweight :'(
feel free to email me @ [email protected] if you have any further questions or info that could help out here!
PS: sorry if this is a repost, I didn't find anything related to this specific topic in forum

The only thing is, the phone is /really/ new.. i never abused it, and I'm thinking that its a software issue.
