I swear CM7 had this option but maybe I'm wrong, anyhow all I want to do is stop the text from scrolling through my notification bar. I just want it to say New message and who its from not display the whole thing line by line. Is there a way to do this? I know apps like chomp and handcent can but I prefer stock when possible. Plus handcent when you enable that option won't even tell you who its from just says new message. Any help would be great! I just hate when i get a long message and it goes line by line and i can't stop it without dragging down the bar. So annoying. Thank you!

I just had an idea. Instead of texting by switching applications, what if you could just pull down the notification window, type a message and read it. If it worked with Google Voice, that would be very cool too!
I have no idea how to code this, but I am a designer and could create some pretty GUI for it.
You could try something like SMSPopup or the popup+quick compose shortcut that handcent has
Do you mean compose an entirely new message in the notification bar or reply to one you received?

I like his idea, I wouldn't mind seeing something official or official looking that popped up when long pressing an SMS notification that let you select reply, that kept you in your current app but popped up for replying like QuickDesk or SMS Popup does.

Maybe, but if you could send texts from the notification bar, next thing is someone else would want to send emails, someone else would want to make voice calls, someone else order pizzas and the next thing you know the purpose of the notification bar is lost in a jumble of features ... what's so difficult about pressing the sms icon to send a text?
Kind of pointless seeing how as you're one click and several milliseconds away from the full fledged SMS app. Remember, this isn't an iPhone, stuff works here - fast.
The notification bar is just that, a notification bar.

True. But I don't see why notifications can't have long-press options. The problem is, this would sorta have to be on a per-app basis. Meaning nobody would make an app that included a menu for the notification unless it was an official feature from Google, a part of Android 2.5, for example.

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to create something like what the OP wants, but I really like your response and you make a good point.
My two cense [yeah im UK so cant spell that word xD]
1) Popup SMS, I installed it very early on in my N1 career, never uninstalled it, its perfect for me.
2) While we dont NEED this, it would be interesting to see if its possible to type in the notification bar, as there may be other uses.
this gives me an idea too
i always hate going back to home or clicking music playing notification to change music.
If there was a little previous, play/pause and next icon it would be awesome. As the status bar is nearly always visible we never have to exit the current app we're in.
Hopefully someone can do this
but yeah sms would be cool too
A stinky note / drawing pad would be cool too. Just a way to quickly write a note, be it a phone number or grocery list, and view it anywhere without minimizing the current application.
Even though there are dedicated apps for all of this, the ease of use and speed of the notification bar are noticeable. The Framework is always running in the foreground.
I just recently started hiding my notification bar with launcher pro and I noticed a weird bug with handcent SMS pop-up. When I go to do a quick reply the keyboard covers up the text box so I can't see what I'm typing. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

That is not a bug of LP.
Can't you disable the KB on the popups in HC? If the error is after you hit reply and bring up the KB, I'd be willing to bet that happens on ADW/TW too.

Basically I get a text and the window pops up. I tap in the quick response window and the KB pops up. When I have the status bar showing the quick response window moves up allowing me to see what I type. When I hide the status bar through LP settings the quick response window doesn't move up when the KB pops up. The issue only happens when I have the status bar is hidden.

I'm pretty sure that's a keyboard glitch. I also use Better Keyboard and get that on settings screens and such, but I use ADW. Although I also hide the status bar so maybe you're on to something.
So.... don't hide the status bar? Problem solved.
Well I've tried couple different keyboards and its the same with all of them. I like handcent for the custom notifications. I also like to hide my notification bar so maybe I'll let the dev of LP know about the bug.

I use SMS pop-up with adw and have not had this issue SMS pop-up also allows for custom tones for contacts. Hope that helps

This has been reported at handcent forum, although it happens whenever you receive a popup regardless of what app you're in, if the status bar is hidden (ie fullscreen browser, game, etc) so it being a LP issue doesn't look likely...
Anyone know how to disable the text message scrolling in the notification bar when you receive an SMS?
I still want to receive the notification, but not the message body scroll through.
I'm VERY sure there was a way to disable this in previous firmware, but buggered if I can find this on KF3.
Anyone?
Go into messaging>menu>settings>notification settings>notifications then uncheck the box.
But then I don't get the notification envelope - which I still want.
I just don't want the message scrolling through the notification bar.
I also would like to know that. And the same problem when I get a very long gtalk message.
I want the notification but I do not want it to show the entire message.
My bad, sorry didn't read the post correctly, afraid I don't know.
Is there a way to help prevent any potential domestic issues with a random text from an ex, or other message that you might not want seen by disabling text message notifications for appearing on the unlock screen?
I don't mind the little notification in the task bar thing, but not liking the large "Hey I Love You" appearing out of the blue from a past lover while the phone is out on the counter.
thats stupid tbh you shouldnt have to hide that **** from ur current 'lover' if you actually love them, theyll understand.

Thanks for the helpful response....
Do you mean when the text message is displayed at the top in the notifications bar? Or, I know on certain versions of Sense a large window pops up in the middle of the screen showing the text. I know you can turn off the second, in security or privacy or something similar to that (If this is it, and you can't find it I'll restore my Sense ROM and find it exactly). I'm not sure about the first, other than disabling notifications completely or changing to a different messaging app.
The top one in notifications bar is fine, that can be disabled in the message settings. Its the large window with the contact name and full text message appearing...must be tied in to sense. I'll see what else I can find, but appreciate your help!
I went and found it specifically Menu > Settings > Privacy. Uncheck the first box.

Thanks man. Appreciate it. Under Privacy there is "Display Message Text" Show missed call and message text on lock screen
You're welcome!
So I watching WWDC 2014 yesterday and really liked the Actionable Notification for SMS (dont care about other apps). IMO, its an essential part of phone and I really liked this feature. Anyways, for months now I been trying to find a popup quick reply app that lets me quick reply from lockscreen on my Nexus 5 running CM11. Some stuff I found was SMS popup which didnt work to good on handling multiple messages. I used EvolveSMS for a long time since it would unlock the screen to show you the popup sms and once you hit send it would bring you back to lock screen. However I was looking for something like ChompSMS where it did that but it gave me option to customize my popup menu, I have to option to open, close, reply, delete etc (I can customize buttons) for my popup screen. Plus I can swipe from one message to another if multiple are popping up at the same time. However I was more in line of something Apple introduced, simple and yet elegant, just sms straight from notification bar, pull down and type.
Anything like that?
