By root storage, it means not in a folder on the sdcard.
If you think of the sdcard as a folder with many sub-folders, then you do not want it in one of the sub-folders, but in the sdcard folder itself.
I hope that makes sense and hasn't confused you further.

Well I've been trying for like 3 hours and still no luck. Which is the root cuz I noticed when I plug the card into the computer and the prompt comes up to choose what I want (and I choose open folder to.view files) on the top of the screen it says g:\ and when I choose the open folder to.view file it turns the g to a E:/ so which is the official root. Anyway I tried putting the dload in both and nothing. I have no clue what else to do. This isn't the first time I do some Modding on electronic equiptment. I have my phone rooted and Ive installed android into windows phones...I also tried redownloading the file but nothing.
Do you have a SD card in the machine? Be aware that the internal memory on the Mediapad calls itself SD but it is not.

No. I remove the SD card and put it in my phone. After I move the file into the SD card I put it in the tablet.

Not sure why you are having these problems. Any reason why you don't just install one of the rooted ROMs found here?

Hi all, there's something bothering me for long.
I have a tablet with internal SD (nand one) and an external SD.
Now I can read contents in internal SD but can't write it. I checked up with root explorer, finding the file sysytem is "read only". After toggling it to R/W, the storage can be written by root explorer but still can't by other apps.
Can anyone help me plz? A lot of thanks!
================ EDIT ================
p.s. When connected to PC as massive storage device, it can be read and written.

Because its internal memory of tablet like root memory of android phone..
So you can write it with root explorer only...
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

thanks but sorry, nah, I'm pretty sure the internal sd is not the root memory. when I download a file, it is meant to be saved in "Download" folder of the internal SD.

Hope there's nothing wrong with the hardware.

Try a clean install of your ROM. If the problem still exists, try a different ROM. That should determine if its as software/hardware problem.

Yeah that's what I've decided to do...
here i have a fix for xperia phones that are not allowing the users to use there sd card correctly.for this fix you need to have root
before attempting this i advise you do the following as i hold NO responsibilty
1. backup any files that require modification
2. make a full backup.zip and move this from sd to pc
3.backup all of your apps from internal memory so that after the change you can restore all app data to the "new" internal storage
assuming you have root and follow above
use any root explorer to browse to system/etc
find vold.fstab and rename to .bak
download vold.fstab for your device
transfer to phone (internal or sd)
use root explorer to copy file from (where you placed it ) to system/etc
reboot phone
recover all app data
now sd card should be working fully as internal storage
if you require a fix for the phones not here please send me vold.fstab and i will modify the file
Please note these files for the moment are for stock ICS
changelog
28/11/2012
added xperia j
8/12/2012
replaced xperia go file
21/12/2012
added xperia sx (untested please give feedback)
I think u must change the permission of the copied file to rw-r-r.... Is it not necessary....???
cant use sd card as MSC connectivity... Works only MTP connectivity...???
It is like swapping internal memory to External memory and vice verse rite...??
Sorry for question , but I don't really understand what it need to fix? Could u explain?

when using the sd card on the xpeira go the sd card wont be used for apps as standered all apps and app data are sent to the inernal
memory and not to your sd card this means when you have filled your small internal memory (4gb) no more apps games can be downloaded if you find that this is the case you can use is this to swap your sd card and internal memory around so that if u have a 32gb sd card like i do you can use this to store all the information on your phone (as you hope to be able to do with your sd card )

I just installed TWRP on my N3, when it first booted up there were some problems that I've come acrossed. First it made some apps not work..then I went into Astro to move the backup I just did to my external SD, It froze on me while moving the file so I restarted the phone. Now I can't even access my external SD card anymore. It just shows up that I don't have a SD card mounted...Any fix for this?
What I have and what I've done to my N3:
8gb SD card from my old S3
Rooted N3 from Chainfire's post and that's it
Installed TWRP
I have the same problem. I have been searching for 3 days for a solution. I am coming from the g note 2 with 64 gig extreme SanDisk sd card. When i put the sd card back in my note 2 it works fine. This sucks, I hope a solution is posted soon.

I remember reading some where that someone suggested backing up your SD card to your PC, formatting the card in the N3, then moving everything back over to it. Hope it helps...
As far as the 64gb cards.
Remove everything from card.
Format as fat 32.
Replace your files.
Viola.

Best bet would be like others suggested, backup the SD to PC, reformat card and try again. [Have you tried other directory explorers ? I use Root Explorer with no issues]
I am using my 64GB card from my E4GT [S2] with no reformatting required and no problems what so ever [so far -- knock on wood]

If nothing can read [detect] the card then it is dead, kill it with fire to make sure the data is 10000000% destroyed :[
The issue is as on now TWRP cannot read exfat. Most SD cards are formatted in exfat by default. You will not be able to reformat the card on windows 7/8 machines in fat32 with out a third party program. Easiest way to reformat your card to fat32 is go to TWRP recovery and choose wipe. It will auto format your card to fat32. "be sure you backed up anything on your card prior to wipe". After you see the card has been wiped go back to install in TWRP and you will be able to choose your sd card.
Every time I try to download anything the default location is the internal sd card. I try to switch it to choose the external sd card but it says "Can't find file or directory. Please make sure your SD card is ready, and USB Mass Storage is turned off."
I can not find the setting for the USB Mass Storage. But I'm able to see the sd card and see the folders and files I have on there with ES File Explorer.
Any help on this! Thanks!

In KitKat, write access to external SD card is blocked, you need to wait for a dev to MOD the system to allow for writing to external SD card.
