I think on every ICS ROM I have tried for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 there is a bug that sometimes occurs when you wake up the tablet and get the lock screen. You cannot unlock the tablet because the touch screen is not working. Sometimes if the tab goes back to sleep and you wake it up again, touch works. Other times, the tab will never go back to sleep and eventually ends up in a boot loop. This bug has been mentioned in a few topics as well.
What I'm wondering is, what causes this and is anyone working on a fix? I see lots of people who keep asking "does the camera work yet?!" but this particular bug is more annoying than a camera that does not work. I've been staying on top of the ICS development topics and I only see people reporting the problem, but no mention of a solution or that something is in the works.
So, does anyone know anything about this? It seems to affect all ICS ROMs (at least all CM9 based ROMs). I do not believe it is one kernel vs another as I have tried different kernels too. Any feedback is much appreciated.
yes happens to my 10.1 all the time as well. Not sure the root of the cause. Should probably pull up the logcat and see what the deal is.. Probably some sleep mode issue not letting it recover the touch driver or something.
+ 1 same issue

Oh wow! Did you make this yourself? Downloading and flashing now! Great work, dev!

Thank you for moving this to a place where topics go to die. This sort of question needs the attention of devs, not to be ignored in a forum hardly anyone looks in. Your system is broken.

Welcome to XDA, new guy. XDA began as a dev-only forum; the general and Q+A subforums came later, and only to keep the important stuff uncluttered. You need to understand that if you're going to use these forums, you go by the rules; if you don't like it start your own forum. The rest of us like it that the dev forum enjoys special status.
BTW- if you want a dev to read your bug reports (and they'd be happy to do so), post in the ROM thread or IM them directly. The devs are friendly folk who do this for free; respect them and their forum and they'll respect you.
I just came here to mention the bug. It isnt the first time I experienced it, but it got to the point today where the tab wouldnt unlock at all after attempting for a good 3-5 mins of constant hitting the power button and trying to move the icon; and then trying the power button to power off the tab and the button on the screen wasnt working either for me.
flash latest cm9 nightly.
then flash this:

observe if its better.
You want to talk about bugs in your lock screen heres a real bug problem that not even ics can fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641464

hi everyone
i`ve got a problem with my sgs2.
since the last update version, my phone doesn`t run smoothly anymore.
when scrolling through the menu or contactlist it`s like the page is holding back. before the update i haven`t got any problems with it. I`ve gone to a servicepoint to reset the whole system to the earliest version. didn`t work. I`ve send it back to where i bought it, they say we`ve repared it... nothing seems to have happened.
it`s so frustrating to see that this expensive phone, witch they say is the fastest and the best of it`s kind, seems to have such a problem.
Does somebody know what to do? because I don`t.

so you have used warranty repair?? May as well root and install a faster custom rom
since the op doesn't come from the deep internet....... i shal explain that there is a search function in this website.
And i am not certain this specific post will help OP in any way, since he just sent it to warranty, due to...that.....
Sorry but sincerely, why did you buy a Samsung Galaxy S2? are you coming from an iPhone?
[EDIT] Anyway, this question might be useful for future reference, in a mere chance that a new user might actually use this so mythical search function.
If after you updated the operative system version to *whatever* you can always revert it to the version you previously had. This might conclude to a confusing stage of your life, since samsung seem to have hit an infinite loop of versions releases and most probably you might get more confused than you already are.
Simply follow guides and instalation instructions in the Development sections... !!!***BUT***!!! remember, development section and threads are strictly to that finality, development. Questions and other doubts are to be posted in the Q&A or General sub-sections.
I honestly wish that i dont sound rude in any and every way, and if i do, i hereby ask for forgiveness... -.-'
You can factory reset and test .
You can install a later stock rom and test .

Yes you sound rude and probably no help to OP, also the condescending tone in your post makes this community look bad for the novices who have genuine problems IMO. Is it because he has 1 post? If he was saying something like "WHY PHONE HAZ LAG? WHAT BEST FIRMWARE FOR NO LAG?" then I would understand your post.
Anyway's, good luck OP! I had the same problems with custom ROM's and Kernel's (firmware) but since I was doing custom stuff, I voided my warranty and had to deal with it myself via full wipes and a kernel cleaning script amongst all the flashing. How did you try to update your firmware?

I get the same thing happening, but only on the call logs.
I think it holds about 500 logs and every so often when I try to scroll down a few pages it starts to freeze then flows again and keeps doing that the more I keep scrolling down.
I think it happens because sometimes I don't use that list for a long period so it needs to reload the list. Also could be the first time after I restore a backup.
Anyway, I just keep scrolling all the way to the bottom and after that all is good again. It a bit like loading the gallery for the first time. After that it loads quickly.

i`ve updated via kies. ever since i use 2.3.4 it`s not running smoothly.
i allready set it back too the earliest version. i`ve asked samsung what to do. they told me too send it back. i`ve done that. but nothing seems to work. the problem is still there. i`ve been thinking of a custom rom, but then i loose my waranty. i hope that when the new update too icecream arrives it will fix the problem. when it doesn`t i will look out for a custom rom.
i`ve never had an iphone (dirty word)

I use the rom in my sig - no lag, never had a force close, faster than stock and battery life is better - you could try a rom like that - or wait MONTHS for your update to arrive

Those are the pitfalls of an Alpha build. Basically, you're installing a work-in-progress that's still 'full-of-bugs' (in case you haven't noticed that, it's probably in the name of one of the files).
The best thing you can do is follow the install instructions to a T, wiping data/cache partition/Dalvik and hope for the best.
With the release of the Android kernel, by HP, we can (probably) expect new versions to be more stable, but 'ish' happens in Alpha builds. Also Dalingrin (one of the main dev's working on this project) told us not to expect 'major changes'. Things will improve when it moves into Beta...I'm just guessing here, but we may see a new Alpha coming, soonish...and let's cross our fingers for a Beta!
EDIT: You could also try installing different builds. It could be that your device will be more stable on one of the others (I think there are 3-4 unique ROMs for the HPTP out right now). Try an original CM9, XRON, and classicnerd...but this might take a couple of days of evaluation of each before you can make a definitive call.
ya i no lol, i am just wondering if this particular bug is known, anyway its working now just hope it doesn't do it too often, cant wait for new builds thats the best part of android
also can i turn off auto screen lock altogether so it only sleeps when i sleep it?
I have the GS2 for Sprint and I just got the new 4.0.4 update - I'm not happy. I was excited to get it, but after using it for one day I was less than thrilled. They have really retarded the ability to move quickly through the phone, LOTS of screen animations and transitions are added and really do make things much slower as the screens pops around on you and places buttons in different locations. I want these turned off ASAP. I went to the developer menu and "turned them off" as I was instructed from another website, but that didn't do a damn thing. Every menu change has a cute little animation adding time and lagging my muscle memory screen presses. The phone is laggy now, it wasn't before, at all.
Anyone else share my strife or know how to fix my issue?
Thank you
I totally disagree...since 4.0.4 firmwares have started to come out, i even managed to stay on stock firmware for a couple of weeks without flashing custom ones. S2 can take care of animations without lag.

Well, you "managed to stay on it for a couple weeks" implies that eventually you didn't like it.
I Don't have lag with the animations, I have lag with nothing happening, and THEN whatever it is I was going into pops up.
Test - right now I hit home screen and it takes about half a second, going into anything takes the same amount of time. This sounds rather trivial, but when comparing to the way it originally operated I think we're talking about a set back.
I'm not opposed to switching to another rom, but I've gotten to the point in my life where I use my phone enough for actual work that I don't have the time. Ideally, I would like the old ROM back, and rooted removing the bloatware.
I will do some research to see if I can achieve my goals, I just wanted to see if someone had an answer for my questions and see if I could avoid the issue altogether and get over the "Facebook layout" syndrome.

You're in the forum for the i9100, a phone that doesn't even work on Sprint.
The Sprint Galaxy S2 is the Epic 4g Touch.
No matter what phone , wether the original i9100 or the sprint one , things at first may seem slow , til everything is caching and stuffs ... Do a factory reset or format /data and /cache .. Would defenitly make a difference..(if it still lags try to disable the animations and transitions OR activate the force GPU and see)
I didn't post this in here, it got moved. I think...

You just posted another in here. Still the wrong forum. So I'd say you did post in here. Go to the Epic 4g Touch forum I linked above before you irrevocably damage your phone.
Yeah welcome to xda.If you dont like stock rom/update then flash a custom rom.

He girls and guys,
first off all: I wish you you all a merry chrismas.
I have a problem with my home button on my Galaxy S2. Physically it seems to work, the display lights up when i hit the button.
On the software side it doesn't work, if I it the button nothing happens.
I'm on latest S2 slim saber by fusion jack.
I would have posted directly into fusionjacks s2 saber mod thread unfortunately this is my 8. post, so I'm not allowed to do so
Any Ideas?
Greetings
Michael
Did it work with stock ? If it does, try a dirty flash of the rom you're using now (no wipe), then try a factory reset if that doesn't work, then try a clean install (I.E with wipe) of the rom you're currently using. If you're still having problems, try a clean install of stock to double check/make sure it's not a hardware problem. If it still works fine with stock, either read the rom thread or wait until you have enough posts to post in the thread.
Thanks for your fast reply:good:
Long time since I ago since I flashed last stock It used to work, even with slim saber kit kat. About 5 days ago it stopped working.
If I enable the navigation bar (=software home key on the touch screen) it doesn't work either.

Might be hardware, try the things I suggested. You'll also have ten posts up if you reply to this post of mine Still try those things before you go posting in a dev thread though, that's what's expected around here. Dev threads are really meant for development stuff, and your problem isn't necessarily an issue with the rom (at least not until you've done a bunch of troubleshooting as per my suggestions).
Thanks for your sugestions!
I'll try to flash an old slim saber on 4.3 where the button used to work. Just found out, that the home button works in TWRP.

Probably not a hardware problem then. Yep, good idea. Try stuff like that out, and if it's still a problem, then ask in the thread. Otherwise you risk getting a new one ripped by some people (and not unreasonably) for not troubleshooting first.
Flashing 4.3. und reflashing 4.4 did it. Home button is working again.
There you go. Sorted it all by yourself. Good work
Hey guys i installed Hyperdrive a while back and have been up to date with all the updates. Well this last one I am experiencing some difficulties. First my phone sometimes will not unlock and it appears to freeze. Like I have to pull the battery and start over. This is happening everyday now it seems since i just updated. Second is it will just randomly reboot and start over but it is always a real fast like reboot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
There have been a few people complaining about this in the dev thread. I don't have enough posts to post in it, but I am having the same issue as well. I did a full wipe between 12 and 11, so I'm not sure whats going on. Some people say it is operator error, and some people blame the ROM.

should provide some more information what your phone is and what you have done
Posts like this belong in the specific ROM thread. If members do not have the proper number of posts, then creating a new thread is not the answer. Use of search, reading the entire thread (yes, no matter how lengthy it is) and then use of pm is ok.
Members should be reading before flashing anything.
That being said...almost all random reboot issues are kernel related, so I suggest you review your settings.
