Dear Xperia S users,
Here are somevery cheap HDMI connectors that will work on our Xperia S
It's handy for those that don't have an HDMI cable in the box like me.
Here are some that should be working:
== Dealextreme.com ==
- Right Angle Adapter
- Right Angle Adapter
- Straight Adapter
- Straight Adapter
- Right Angle Adapter
You have to be sure it's connected good otherwise the signal between your phone and HDMI cable won't be ok
Feel free to post some more so I can add them to the thread
Those are really cheap ;-)
But still requires a hdmi male -hdmi male cable

Since HDMI utilizes digital signal, there won't be signal loss.
Unless you are using a very long HDMI cable.

I am using the Cable in the box, I can get 1080p on my tv, and also use my TV remote to control the phone. PLUS, 3D as well, when viewing 3D photos.
I don't know if those cheap adoptor can do all those though. but I am lucky to have one in the box.
U sure 1080p ?
Look again of you want.
Pres on page info or something and it will show 720p 1080i etc

Saw some detailed photos of the top of the device and only mini jack port was visible.
I'm not sure though.
Any intel on this one?

Yep, its at the bottom, there are some hardware tour hands-on vids on youTube from MWC that confirm it (possibly the GSMarena write up mentions it too).
Great, vertical desktop dock is now possible as well as more convenient car chargers.
Another reason to buy it

omg every second youtube video shows the device in every angle.... and 80% of the MWC videos have the device charging...
Just so you know, this is actually a MHL port. What this does is it can send data as well as video and audio, so it can be used as a micro USB but also as an HDMI.
Pretty nifty, huh?

I assume it's 1080p output, it would be strange if it's limited to 1080i.

Slight correction: no charging from current TVs unless you have a dongle, in which case it will charge and playback on all current HDMI-input capable televisions.
According to a MHL preview video on youtube, it will playback the same as any other HDMI port. So if the phone supports 1080p playback, it will send that output to your tv through MHL port.
I have used phones that had it on the top (Captivate) Left (Atrix) and bottom (Nexus)
I like it the most on the bottom. The Atrix is almost unusable while charging in portrait.

So I plugged my note in to my Samsung plasma tv. I used the mhl adapter that came with my infuse which I used with my infuse and it worked all the time. But it is not working with the note. Am I missing a setting or something? I am rooted with da g OC kernel but I haven't seen anything in that thread about this. So anyone have the same issue or could help me out?
Will gladly hit the thanks button fer ya!

Did not work for me until I plugged in the power into MHL. Then everything worked but the quality on the big 42" screen was not that good.
I have not ordered one yet, but I've seen other Note users say this PNY cable works good. It's the one I intend to order soon.

The screen only supports slightly above 720p so I wouldn't count on it handling 1080 externally.

I think it will output 1080p video files just like Samsung's larger tablets and play them in true HD on a capable TV.
From what I've seen, MHL adapters are a bit of a crapshoot for the Note. I have one made by CableMatters that seems to work well, but sometimes it inexplicably doesn't.
I don't need it for YouTube or anything but I use my phone to dl californication from demonoid. Be nice and easy to just plug the note in and fly but what I've been doing is using es file exp to drop the video file on my network HDD and then stream from there to my ps3. Is there a more efficient way of doing this? (Besides paying for showtime of course...LOL)

I saw somewhere there was a process. I think it was to plug in the hdmi, plug in the power, then plug into device. I saw it worked for the poster but i may have the order off.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
I agree, try it using the following steps.. HDMI from TV into MHL Adapter / Power from Wall into MHL / MHL Adapter into phone. if you hear the beep that the phone is charging, does not mean it made a connection with the HDMI side. if you get it connected there will be a 2 / 3 second delay between the beep and you will see something on your TV, also I have USB debugging OFF, seems to work better with MHL.
Edit: With my Adapter, I do not have to reboot the phone with the adapter in for it to work, it will auto detect whenever I hotplug it. I do have to mess with the connector plugging into the phone, seems it can be plugged in / detect power, but not HDMI, (Wiggle it

You sure it's even S3 compatible? Because I think only the genuine Samsung ones have the 11 pins.
Mines the genuine one. It works but disappointing on video.

itsa samsung adaptor, just from the infuse.
it worked on my skyrocket and Galaxy Note. i figured it would work on the S3
I have same issue, videos that I recorded using S3 cam plays really bad on tv with the genuine Samsung 11pin adapter. Its very choppy/stutters but YouTube or any other videos that I downloaded plays fine though... only the videos I recorded have issues. All the videos are recorded in 1080p. Any ideas what could be causing this?

If it works on any other phone then it's not S3 compatible because the new S3 cables have an 11 pin layout so works on S3 and nothing else.

If you open WMPlayer and under streaming enable. Allow devices to remote.
Then launch video on s3 and you should get icon in top left. Press and watch dlna . Only vids I have trouble with is mkv. I believe that is dlna adapter dependent and my media player doesn't have codecs.
Not managed to try another television yet though.

How to use MHL
Buy the OFFICIAL cable, power it with your Samsung adapter, pop it into a working TV. Turn the TV to that channel on HD. Plug in your phone.
I experience a slight latency slowdown, but nothing that would make it unsusable.
I'm probably being just picky, put it this way I've completed mariokart 64 on 150 on it.

I have no problem but you have me confused with your instructions.....
You say "pop it into a working TV" ~ Pop what into a working TV?
You say "Turn the TV to that channel on HD" ~ You are going to have to run that one by me again?
You say "Plug in your phone" ~ Surely in order for the TV to pick up the S3, the phone needs to be connected and powered BEFORE you connect it and the HDMI cable to the TV, not after?
I Have official adapter.
I use the charger that came with phone.
Plugged into telly the framerate is poor.
The quality isn't great either.
Not sure what's going on but it's pants !!!

Hi,
I'm a CATV engineer, and i want to stream from my Galaxy S3 to my encoders using RCA cable. So, is there any possibilities to do that? i know i can use HDMI cable, but i want RCA ones, they are compatible with all equipments.
Regards,
I read you can use this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080KN18K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A2BUXD0L1W5AKG
Sorry I would like to contribute something positive but I can't. Why would you think that this is a good idea at all, the resolution would make anything you try display unreadable. If you don't have hdmi on all your Tv's and you're a CATV guy well... Anyway it would be better value of your time and equipment costs, to just go buy a new 32" LCD and carry that around in your work van.

Sir, thank you for your reply,
It's not about TV-s, it's about the other equipments like encoders, decoders, IRD etc. They are all with RCA or BNC.
HDMI ports are much more for homes, than for server rooms.

Hey XDA Devs!
I play Dead Trigger and other games on my GNote 2 using Sixaxis. I love the experience it is totally console like!
To complete the experience, I would love to hook it up to a larger display!
The thing is I don't have a TV with HDMI support. I have a PC running Win7Ultimate (x64). I've looked at many apps like webkey and stuff. They do work but for gaming I can't do with that choppy frame rate.
Hope you get what I am looking for. Awaiting your expertise XDAers!
