[Q] Galaxy s3 Haptic Issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
Short question. I've got a galaxy s3, so far a great phone!
Vibrate and haptic feedback works when i press the back or menu button. But i cannot seem to get it to work when i touch the screen. i.e. touching an icon on the screen does not create the haptic feedback that i'm used to.
Is this a normal thing or an error/bug?

Uhm you can turn on this function

Yeah..you mean the haptic option under settings - sound?
It enables the haptic feedback for the back and menu button. But not the touches on the screen itself.

that function will be implemented into roms and anyways its not needed it just sucks battery

So, short answer is that it's not a default option on the galaxy?
It's been a long time since i've had a stock rom so i don't know any better

Same Issue(Resolved)
Well i had the same issue and the solution was pretty simple for me. Turn off power saving mode.

same problem but nothing seems to work
ok I have the same problem; haptic feedback not working and neither is vibrating on notifications, some vibrations working. The problem showed up like 1 week ago, without having installed anything special that day (can't remember if I installed anything at all that day).
My device (sgs3 I9300) was when the problem appeared on Paranoid android 3+, now it's on some cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly build.
what i've tried: going through all the settings, sound manager, turning off all vibrations the rebooting then turning them all on then rebooting again, changing rom (incl. factory reset of course), reading all kinds of threads about such problems.

[Q] A way to Disable vibration when shutting down

Hi all,
as the title says...is there any way of turning off / disabling the vibration that happens to tell you your phone is off.?
it's really annoying
running Omega ICS v10 - XWKL1
TIA..

Seriously ? How many times do you shutdown your phone per hour ?
I do not know of such mod and I don't believe that someone else thought to remove it ...

there was no need to be nasty, if you didn't know, just say you don't know.
@blueseeker I do it once per day when I go to bed and it's a pointless vibrate so just wondered if I'd missed a setting or if anyone had a script that would/could disable it..
But thanks for your response
@theguydan thanks for the criticism of the pointlessness of blueseekers comment

I don't think there is because it isn't normally seen as a big issue and can be useful (i.e. if you think your phone is bricked or there is a boot loop but it vibrates). Sorry I couldn't help more, it may depend on the rom you use (stock rom has a sound but Cyanogenmod doesn't).
Actually my i9000 doesn't vibrate after shutting it down !! Is it normal ??
It just stopped doing it after flashing a JVT !!
thanks
Prevent Samsun Galaxy S2 or S11 vibrating on shutdown
I've found a way of prevent the annoying shutdown vibration, but it involves stopping all vibrating alerts (I think).
Go to settings, sound, Haptic feedback and turn on the Haptic feedback (if it is not already), then go to vibration intensity (just below) and reduce the sensitivity to zero. Hey presto no more annoying vibration on shut down or indeed annoying vibration at any time .
as Zakarath said... I posted a similar solution just yesterday. Don't forget to use the search before you post. This has already been answered a couple of times.

[Q] Remove Shutdown and Startup vibration

hello,
newbee here. I have acquire a sansung galaxy S2, and have a lot of fun with it.
trouble started when it rebooted at night. I figured out that some update or application crashes were the cause of it.
I think i rid of most of the issues, and got it pretty stable.
To avoid future complication, I even rid of the startup sound, but I can not rid off the vibration (especially the one when shutting down....)
I think it is part of the basic settings, and I did a lot of researches... no luck
Apps like Silent boot would not work either....
Do anyone know if it's even possible ?
If impossible, is ICS having the same issue, or can this be tuned ?
(i just can't believe no one thought of making that optional ...)
Please help me...
I'm on ICS and don't have that. It is part of system settings - sound. It usually is affected by the mode you have your phone set to (like if you have sound set to Sound and Vibrate or just Vibrate, etc). Try changing to just sound and see if that stops it from vibrating (or just silent mode with no vibrate).
Can also try to untick Vibrate on screen tap.
ICS is sweet... can't go back to GB... what you waiting for?!
Sorry, but this does not work (phone is rooted)
. tried vibration off no luck
. tried silent mode no luck
Is there someone who knows where is configured the vibration settings ?
I mean in which filesystem (full path if possible) ... ?
note: Official Samsung ICS for Unlocked Phones will come soon... unless there is a safe ROM and method to install it. For now I would concentrate on my Vibration issue.
Firstly, be patient. People will try to help you, doesn't mean the first answer fixes your problem.
As I stated... ICS does not have this problem. Phone makes no sound and no vibrate, if you set it that way on ICS.
How about give us more information. You said you're rooted but on GB. Are you using any different type of kernel other than stock? Like Siyah 2.xx?
As the filesystem where you can doodle with removing vibrations... I will leave someone with more experience to deal with that (even if I know the path)... in case I advise you something that can screw things up after.
*you might want to reset the phone - as the system notification/vibration settings should have done the trick.
hello
I upgraded to 4 versions of ICS.
Each one of them did not correct the issue : it still vibrate when shutting down the phone. (darkyrom, OCA, Pure and a "4.0.4" version having a clever 3 way option to launch (Nova, TW and Apex)).
I did not reset the settings yet but I will give it a go.
I will the thread updated.
That's a very strange bug then. The settings to control that though, is not with the launchers but with System Settings.
Maybe try this:
System Settings - Volume <inside there you have 4 settings. Try changing System to very low or all the way off. Then go to the whatever mode you have it set to (like Silent Mode or whatever)... and select Mute.
Then the lower categories of System... uncheck all of them: Keytones, Touch sounds, Screen lock sound, Vibrate on screen tap.
See if that works. If it does, then can narrow it down to one of those settings.
Thank you very much
The simplest things are not always obvious to the common....
It works, the vibration disappeared when /SOUNDS/VIBRATION SETTINGS/Vibrate on touch was set to the lowest. Meantime, the little vibration at startup disappeared as well. Now the phone can crash, update and reboot at night without waking me up ! .. a good logcat reader (just in case) running in background will help cleaning up when some error occurs....
Once again, thank you: that drove me mad.
Glad that worked. You're right, sometimes the simplest things are not always obvious, for everyone ;-)

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 - Jelly Bean Update - Vibrate on Screen Tap

Hey guys,
First up apologies if I'm breaking any rules but I'm new to this. Anyway, I have an international unlocked version of the S3 and I just got my Jelly Bean update today. While everything seems to be working fine, I've encountered two problems. Firstly, whenever I visit the stock e-mail app the screen seems to go dim very drastically (im on auto-brightness) and I don't remember it being like this during ICS.
Secondly, I've seem to lost my "Vibrate on Screen Tap" option. Which means while I still have my ripple effect available for my lockscreen, I no longer have the vibration to go with it which is something I grew quite fond of. So I was wondering if these are problems specific to my mobile or everybody as well?
I wondered about the exact same thing until I decided to go through all the menu options and discovered that the phone had put itself in power saving mode. Disabled that and screen vibrate is back again

Yea I faced the issues as well. Dsicovered that once you disabled powersaving mode, when you access the email app, it won't dim anymore. Hope Samsung will fix this issue in the next update.

[Q] Paranoidandroid 3.99 button backlight keeps turning on for no reason

Hi, yesterday I upgraded from Paranoidandroid 3.68 to the new project Paranoidandroid 3.99 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397762
But I have an annoying problem - The touch button backlight keeps randomly turning on and switches off only when i click on screen. This only happens when I use it, it seems to be some kind of response or something. I have gone in settings>buttons>backlight and disabled it yet this does not disable the random turning on of it. Anyone know how can I completely disable it without installing custom kernels? Or what is causing it to randomly turn on all the time.
That's due to the touch key backlights. On 4.2.2 (PA 3.68) there was an option to disable them. On 4.3 it was removed by CM so a lot of other ROMs don't have the option either. What I've done on other 4.3 ROMs is to install the device settings apk and use that to turn them off. I haven't tried it on PA though.
I'm on mobile so can't give you a link... Search through my past posts from a couple weeks back. I posted the apk and instructions a couple of times, once in the PACman thread, once in Q&A. I also saw the steps quoted in Q&A by someone else too, you might come across that thread.
Oh wait you could probably even go to my 'most thanked posts'. It might be one of those. See how you go.

Hmm, thanks! But I did that, installed whole custom settings apk and launched the custom settings and turned the backlight off in there too, but it's exactly the same. Also this rom already has backlight button setting in options, so it didn't do anything new as far as i can tell.
The key backlight turns on randomly after like 5-30sec of pressing on screen. It's not like the usual backlight turning on keypress but it turns on after some time instead.
Edit: Backlight keeps turning on even if i have the default 3sec deley. the backlight would turn off after 3 sec and then back on after like 10sec until screen turns off or i press again on screen. Weird, maybe rom bug? I cant post on rom thread because i don't have enough posts
Edit 2: OK I have linked it to screen brightness. Every time screen brightness changes (from adaptive lightning, screen timeout and app/game setting) the key backlight turns on. I have no idea how to force the key backlight to stay off though, so thats why im here
Oh wow. Good job narrowing it down to that, I imagine it wasn't easy to figure out what was causing it. Have you read the rom thread for the last 15 pages or so? See if someone else is having the same issue. Also read the OP and following posts, for known bugs /FAQ. You should have read OP before flashing anyway but read it again
If you don't find anything else, try to get a few extra posts and then post in the thread. You seem to know what you're doing, so try helping out a few other people on Q&A maybe.

The latest(todays) build fixed the issue. Thanks for help!

[Q] HAPTIC feedback is hard to kill on my S4 Lollipop. It won't stop vibrating. lol

Hi,
I've found that vibrations and the HAPTIC feedback is HARD TO KILL, on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545) running Android 5.0.1 (OC1) Lollipop. It won't stop it's little buzzes! lol
Background:
- Running one of the later versions of the OC1 update from muniz_ri (Thank you muniz_ri!!!)
- Problem also occurred with my previous version of that same update (version 3 days after muniz_ri opened his thread)
- Problem is subtle and, while I am sure it happens, it seems inconsistent at times.
The problem:
- My phone vibrates sometimes.
Ok, granted that's not a problem for everyone, but I think it IS a problem if:
1) you've carefully TURNED OFF ALL vibration options,
2) You've disabled HAPTIC feedback in multiple menus, and
3) You've even dragged all three VIBRATION INTENSITY sliders all the way to the left/off positions (Incoming call, Notifications, and Haptic feedback)
4) You're OCD like me.
Anyway, after all that, I still notice tiny "haptic like" vibration activations here and there. Incoming calls mostly though I've noticed other vibration activations sometimes when making menu selections, or changes, etc.
It's weird and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing or if it's maybe a "New Version of Android" thing? (I came from 4.4.2 where the only vibration I couldn't disable was the "power-on" buzz)
Thanks all. Have a great weekend
Specifically...

Specifically... I've noticed I CONSISTENTLY get the little tiny "haptic feedback" buzz when sliding either the red or green buttons to answer or reject an incoming call. wth
Again, I've disabled all vibrations of any kind in every menu that I am aware of (I'm a battery preserving nut) but I cannot seem to stop this version of android from buzzing. (through two different installs of lollipop, btw)
Am I the only one? Does anyone know what I am missing? Is haptic feedback a hardcoded non-optional standard operation under certain circumstances under 5.0.1 (OC1)?
Thanks
Can't stop MY BUZZ
OK seriously, to try to clear this issue, I even just flashed muniz_ri's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4708661) latest version of the OC1 upgrade with NK4 bootloader ROM.
As instructed in his upgrade without losing root post, I used FlashFire 0.20 and, for the heck of it, I chose his DEODEXED variant. Everything went awesome. I am so grateful to muniz_ri for this upgrade and for all his generous work.
However, my Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon's network still freakin' vibrates when it wants to!!!
(Please see previous posts for the laundry list of menus I've configured to try to stop my phone from vibrating when I want it to stop. Also note that I'm running in "Power Saving Mode")
This problem did not happen to me ever under any of my previous android versions before 5.0.1 Lollipop (OC1). When I set the phone to silent it was silent, when I set it to sound it made sounds and when I set it to vibrate (haptic or otherwise) it vibrated.
Only now, since upgrading (and this is my third wipe and update of 5.0.1), does my phone seem to persist in throwing vibes when it damn well pleases. lol
Am I missing something?
Am I the only one?
Is this normal?
Are you having a nice day?
Thanks for any insight,
Joe C.
