Auto prl update. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My phone just automatically updated the prl when I opened the xda app even after I cancelled the update. My prl is now 24004
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

Mine just did it too
Rolling it back to see if it does it again (hope not).

Yep, same here.
Why not try the new PRL before rolling it back?
Its not like a software update. Its not going to hurt your phone or prevent you from root/s-off. Sometimes a PRL upgrade can be a good thing.

See the other PRL thread for more details, but the short version is that I'm seeing the best speeds on the PRL my phone was shipped with. (PRL 24003). I've tried all of the PRL versions I've seen come through on the phone and tested each one.

I'm in la area I'm wondering if this could be because of LTE?

I got the update too, but I'm now on 25004.

Same here. DC area. I haven't yet had a chance to check to see if it affected speeds, one way or the other.

I've got 25004. Got almost double 3g speeds than shipped. Though it may be different for each user.

The PRL is for CDMA, not LTE.

Those of you on the 24004 prl, are your phones corporate or personal lines?
Also can anyone post the 24004 prl please? I can only find 25004
Thanks!

Mine says 25004. Haven't had any updates.
Sent from my EVO LTE using xda premium

25004 is a latest one but so is 24004.
I thought I saw one person in another thread say 24004 is corporate ver of the 25005 but need more people to confirm that based on they account and what they have.
Corporate ones give better data speed on roaming is why I am wondering.

25004 here on a personal line as well.

I'm almost positive I've been on 25004 for awhile. I don't remember seeing or doing a prl update.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

For what it's worth, I am also on 25004 and I do not remember the phone updating on its own. I had been thinking my speeds seemed a lot better lately. I ran speed test and sure enough, it's somewhat better

MIne changed the other night to the 25004 and now i hardly get a data connection to top off my already horrendous 1 bar/roaming all the time crap signal at home

Mine tanked pretty hard on 25004, down to like 14kbps from 700-800 downloads, my upload hasn't really changed.

I've been having issues all day with sms and mms, also been dropping to 1x and so I looked and my PRL is 25002..
Did a prl update and I'm back to 25004.. really weird. Only thing ive done is last night I ran the mod to remove the HTC disclaimer on boot up screen.

EVO 3d prl update

I switched back to my 2.3.3 stock back up trying to find a fix for poor data speeds . Did a prl update went from 20281( I think LOL) to 50580. The problem is the sprint zone diagnosis app shows 1xRTT and a new prl update to 60681 but it won't let me update to it. Here's screenies
I will upload the other in a sec... It won't let me upload the other screen shot
WARNING - WARNING -WARNING .. UPDATING TO THE LATEST PRL HAS LEFT ME AND OTHERS WITHOUT 3G STUCK WITH ONLY 1X DATA SPEEDS . SO UPDATE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DONT BLAME ME, BLAME SPRINT OR VERIZION OR THE NEW HBOOT I DONT CARE JUST DONT BLAME ME!!!

After seeing this post, I.updated my prl, and it too gave me the 50580....i.was on 21081 before updating...
can someone post that .prl?
I updated mine and it stayed the same at 21081.

Seems like mine got a little worse actually, but I'm not at my desk, so it could just be that I'm at a different location in my plant...il do I speed test when I get back to my desk
I know mine seems worse, I am in a area I know I get 3g. Since I did the prl update I am now on 1x in this area wtf??
I am not a data whore either, lol.

I tested using the speedtest app, which I just used the other day from the same location...after running multiple tests, it seems my 3g speeds actually dropped 100kb and I'm constantly showing 1x (was 3g before updating prl, and yes my theme shows 3g/1x properly)
They were 160kbs before the prl update, now, averaging 60-70...thanks for the notice of prl update op.... LOL

Can you get me the 21081 prl file?
I'm starting to think sprint is trying to make things worse, not better. The last two times I've taken a prl update it significantly showed my speed.
I've never had very fast speeds w sprint but the speeds have fine b from a crawl earlier this year of around 60 kb to around 600 kb or so. when I had pro 20800 I remember things were pretty decent. Then I took the 20801 update v and it slowed way down for Weeks. Now speeds on 20801 have been pretty decent and I see this thread of an update. So, I figure "I doubt it will slow me down again, right"....WRONG!
I ran two speedtests within a half hour of the update, so I have a baseline. One test was taken just before the update to try to keep the test consistent. I updated the prl and ran two new speedtests. The new speed is 1/10 the old speed. All other factors should be same. Sitting in same location on all tests. All performed within relatively short timespan. Only difference is prl version. See my screenshot..

Have to keep an eye on this thread. I'm getting a horrible signal lately but at least I'm getting 3g and not 1x (I have a truth telling rom also lol). Not to mention I'm at my Doctors office in Albany NY (the capital of NY) and have one bar.
I know everyone's on the edge of their seat worrying about me but its just a yearly physical. ***cough***
BABABOOEY!
i got the same update 50580 now i live out in the country and used to get almost no signal at my house now after the prl update im getting a constant 2 signal bars..data speeds on the other hand..it still moves like pond water
I just rolled back to PRL 21081, then updated profile and I got my 3G back.
I attached the PRL if anyone needs it.

The benefit is that, it allows you to roam on Verizon and use 3G data while roaming. A standard Sprint PRL will let you roam but only use 1x data while roaming.
The downside is that if you use too much data (some say over 300MB) while roaming each month, Sprint will cancel your service.

I hoped they would come through. I think things will get better, lte speeds from Verizon are off the chain good, if sprints is going to be like that with lte than we really have something to look forward too. Its faster than my cable wifi at home lol. I won't cry over the $10 premium data fee. Of course we have to upgrade to lte phones first.

Haha don't use sprint zone, its archaic and isn't properly updated, use the about phone tab to check software and carrier versions. But to answers your question, a PRL (Preferred Roaming List) update is carrier wide. When towers are updated or tweaked they roll out a PRL update, normally they do a couple towers and then roll out a update, or else there would be a new PRL update every day! Most PRL updates come from upgrades, like the transition from CDMA to CDMA LTE towers. Even though you prolly won't see much effect from the update in your area, if you ever traveled to a 4g area without the update your phone wouldn't work efficiently, so everyone gets the update. PRL updates also come from tower performance tweaks aswell.

Thanks for the heads up about Sprint Zone and the info about PRL updates. I assumed it had something to do with the network but wasn't exactly sure. I've gotten messages from Sprint recently talking about "A new Network is coming" so that would make sense and I know they've also done some tower upgrades in my area recently.
On another note, is anyone else having issues with doing a PRL update? It has still yet to work and continues to just hang on "Contacting Network" message. When it hangs on that message it totally renders my device useless and I have to power down (or pull the battery).

The messages about the new network are pertaining to Network Vision, sprint is merging all their technologies 3G/4GLTE/WiMax(where available) together into a more efficient spectrum and coverage overlap! No, I'm pretty sure you have to flash stock to update, then flash back to whatever custom ROM you're using.
Easiest way is to have a nandroid of stock, take a nandroid of what you're using, flash the stock, update via "about phone," then restore your custom nandroid.

Evo LTE PRL (24003)

For kicks, I used the stock PRL for the EVO LTE (24003) on to my Photon. Wow my data flies with it hovering around 1600kbps - 2300kbps down and 500kbps up. I attached the PRL file below with some screen shots. the first on is my status screen showing the PRL version. The second is my Sprint 3g speed. The last is my roaming. Feel free to try it at your own discretion and I'm not responsible if anything good or bad happens to your device.
Here are instructions to manually update your PRL. You'll need to be on a blur based rom and have your phone's MSL.

If you still have service just do as Kevets suggested. (menu>settings>about phone>system update) If not you'll have to flash a previous PRL version that you know was working or RDS to stock.

Nothing really special about this PRL. It just has the typical 800mhz scans for Chicago. Nothing else real special.
The wimax chipset does not even use a PRL. This PRL is for EV and 1X only.

Its called QoS...I was expected something like this...wimax was never the issue ...it was the overall sprint bandwidth ...so now with lte coming how do hide that lte vs wimax was never the issue...it was the network behind it?...you set a network QoS to give most of the bandwidth to the lte devices and shortchange the non lte...even if you not using lte...the network will put the new stars of sprint lineup to the head of the line to make the look faster....wonder why you see all the reports of ever slower g3 on sprint for the other phones?...you just lower in the qos pecking order..you get what left of the bandwidth...you flying standby..the new first class phone fly first class on the backside of the network even if the local phone link to the network is just 3g

I've done about 10 Prl updates but I'm still on 24004 . Is this an issue? Am I supposed to be on 25004?

24004 is for corporate accounts. The 25004 is the "regular" PRL. You want the one you have .
Don't worry so much about it. PRLs oftentimes differ based on area and such. Some places get new PRLs faster, and some places just get different PRLs. A new PRL isn't a huge deal anyway, since they just decide how your phone roams.

Thanks!
I'm also 25004, and I'm in the Kansas City market area. LTE in 2 weeks!
