Greetings
I have tried several APK tools/managers on the ICS apk's in an attempt to make a theme for either Viper ROM or the stock deodexed ROM, and I cannot find a manager, or tool that will compile the modded apk's.
I find the HTC green and sky blue to be most undesireable, does anyone have one that will work for compiling? decompiling isn't a problem.
I have tried WANAM for ICS, Nexus ONE, 4.9, 5.0 so if anyone can help I would sure appreciate it.
THanks and happy days.

you need the apktool modded to work with sense
and you need to make sure you are adding both the framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk
you can find more info here

I'm trying to change the status/top bar of a CM7 theme using UOT Kitchen. The first time I ever attempted this was last night. Followed the instructions step by step; everything was good. But when I flashed it, nothing changed.
My question is, when uploading files to UOT it says for GB Rom's upload the framework and system apk. For CM7 Roms just upload the theme apk i.e. Cyanbread. Seeing how CM7 is GB thats where I'm confused. Should I upload just the theme apk or the framework and system apks? Or should I upload them all?

I read somewhere else that UOT might not be updated yet for 2.3.5 Gingerbread like the latest AOSP roms are running.

I only theme out my framework-res.apk and my SystemUI.apk. The SystemUI.apk is the stock look that you get on Gingerbread without any modifications. If you unzip if with 7zip you'll see what I mean. I've never flashed it into a live/booted rom. I modify my files pngs mostly and let the kitchen do the hard work (the files I still don't understand), then replace the SystemUI.apk and the framework-res.apk into the CMupdate.zip file. There is probably a more preferable way to do it, but I don't switch themes a lot (and the theme chooser doesn't theme everything I need anyway)
I know this way will work as I've gotten my edits into these today/yesterday

Just wondering what tools you guys use to compile apks?
I was trying to get a framework-res.apk compiled for like twelve hours and never finished compiling.
if you could please post what tools you use and what versions that would be a great help.
thanks in advance
something like this
apktool
linux
java jdk v7
newest android SDK

I liked wanam's ics version for decompiling/recompiling ICS. What exactly are you trying/wanting to change in framework-res ? Quite often I just extract framework and rezip it via root explorer on my phone if i am changing things like .png's But if you are trying to edit xml files or such then you do need to use a decompile/compiler. What framework are you trying to compile? ICS or Gingerbread? Some idea may help others to answer you with more ideas.
If it is ICS you can decompile with with a gingerbread apktool and then have to recompile with one made for ics. I am by NO MEANS an expert but have been told by others.

hi guys,
im trying to mod the png's in rosie.apk from a sensation port for the desire hd. ive set all the dependancies etc and i know their ok as i have moded other apks in the rom with no issues. but rosie will not work, ive tried a few different apktool jars and aapt. it happens with both apktool and apk manager. it compiles fine but its always half the size of the original rosie and when i push it all that happens is a black screen. this happens with or without modifying the apk
very annoying!

anyone?
Does anyone know how to decompile and recompile the framework for cm10 nightly build? I'm using Framework Toolkit by Themike *it simply cant recompile everything from original framework into new modded framework after editing the dimens.xml for osb's dpi (i assume, the modded framework (5MB+-) is significantly smaller than the original untouched framework (9MB+-), and the modded framework give bootloop). thanks
ICS apks are hard to decompile and and recompile. you got to search a lot to get a working apktool. the tool needed to for decompiling and recompiling.
moreover the apk is to be "signed". Just make sure you sign your apk.
you got to have a better understanding of xml for this. other than this i cant help. Good luck :good:
you can use mod to add OSB. it also provide modded settings.
Btw mate the system apps. Or files are not to be signed afaik and even if you sign it,you'll have to sign all system files with the same!
Isn't it?

Ghostfreak: yup, but i dun think CM team will sign all the apps they modify, are they? btw, nvm. I guess i better stick to ICS 1st, CM10 still kinda too buggy to be used on daily usages. JB source and resource for xperia are still too limited......
rajxelton: CM10 is based on JB 4.1.2, not 4.0.4 ICS (CM9) anymore of course the modding will be kinda different somehow, and CM10.1 is now 4.2.1 but under alpha release to test for development purpose. and ya, i do know those xml files under the values folder. i did made my own framework for my own use before.....
Has anyone been able to decompile lg system ui apk. I tried multiple versions of apk tool
I think the devs were talking about that in the new dev only section. Maybe you can find some info there.

I have had no issues decompiling or recompiling SystemUI.apk. You are loading both framework apks right?
