no...
there will be no change in performance from the kernel side... u can ofcourse use "init.d scripts" to tweak the ROM but thats not directly kernel related, though this kernel will allow u to auto-run such scripts at startup...
also with this kernel u will be able to root ANY future firmware (GB atleast) as this kernel has the necessary codes to auto-root... so u wont need to hunt for pre-rooted system images which are huge (350MB+)
one of the users ROG_ZX has tested it on his phone and its working fine!
so users can now safely flash this kernel to auto-root their system!
Thanks for you work :-D

I had the same problem, I did't get the chance to install the driver. What I did was to go into fastboot before windows loads, I did it in bios setup to be sure, then boot to windows. Now it wil stay in fastboot and you can install the driver. Once the driver is installed you can enable fastboot at any time in Windows.
Does someone has the stock kernel ?
thanks for all guys help.
I have two question
1.today i see the official update, and want to use pc companion to update. But it show the phone setting got some error.maybe it is because I root the boot loader??
2.
cause my phone got some hardware problem. So i need to give it back to sony.
And I want to restore to factory setting. is is possible to relock and no-root???
Just relock your phone, you can find the info here in the dev thread with the stickies

dude this is NOT UR FORUM OR MY FORUM...
this is XDA...
also regarding creating seperate device sub-forums i have contacted the forum mods...
i dont know if u are aware of this or no but Sony Ericsson has released around 6-7 Android handsets this year... which essentially are based on the same Qualcomm MSM8255 (7x30) chipset... i have even checked the open source contribution by Sony ericsson and all the devices share the SAME kernel sources...
ok as u must have realized that since all these devices are VERY similar (internally) it doesnt make much sense to creat seperate device sub-forums for each device...
instead here is wht i suggest:
currently there are two device sub-forums:
xperia arc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=962
xperia play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1090
i personally feel is that all the Xperia 2011 devices can be clubbed under a single sub forum (say "Xperia 2011 Devices") and then make sub-sub forums for each device... OR just keep the 5 basic sub-sections (Dev/General/themes/Q&A/Accessories) and then everyone should tag the threads properly with device ID... e.g.: say if u want to start a Arc related thread then just start the thread title with [ARC]...
cause if u see most of the things are common for Arc/Play/Neo/Mini/Mini Pro/Ray

Features of my custom touch edition recovery
base recovery sources are from koush/CyanogenMod/FreeXperia Team... i have added more features to it and my team mate, Napstar, has worked on adding the Touch capabilities...
[ features ]
remapped key layouts for specifically for Xperia PLAY
revamped layout for recovery menu (to improve navigation) [renamed few options and changed their order]
changed "wipe data/factory reset" option to just "factory reset", and detailed the partitions which will be wiped
added reboot options
reboot into system
reboot into recovery
reboot into fastboot mode
some modification in "Partition SDCard" section:
put up a confirmation to warn the user that this option will wipe sdcard
added ability to select filesystem when creating new layout
add confirmation to "backup" option in Nandroid menu... it used to keep getting pressed by mistake and start making backups immediately... now it will ask u before starting backup
removed tons of "NO"s from some menus...
[ how to enter recovery ]
when the device is booting the new bootlogo will be shown, keep watching the notification LED
when the LED turns BLUE keep pressing the BACK button
you will now enter my custom recovery
[ how to navigate in recovery ]
the recovery is touch edition so controls are on screen
if someone prefers to use hardware buttons the the mapping is as follows:
BACK button -- to go BACK in menu
HOME button -- to navigate UP in menu
MENU button -- to navigate DOWN in menu
SEARCH button -- to SELECT menu item

Don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but this is a kernal, so u need to use FASTBOOT to flash it, not recovery at all, wither it has a dedicated recovery partition or not.
I've never hear of using recovery to flash a boot.img file, only .zip update or mod files.

Why do you do this ?
Is it impossible to get it to work otherwise ?
(adb remount is not exactly difficult to do)
Its convenient because you can test a command knowing it will fail and then remount it if you need to.
I can only guess at how much more hassle for people trying to use a touchscreen for file management have.
(If there is something to do with breaking recovery etc then that is a valid reason).
There are benefits to a minimal amount of changes.
So what would it need to do to get ap2sd working on this kernel? Is it the same as the Doom Kernel? I'm curious to see how the battery lasts with this kernel the 42 ftf and 36 baseband and libs

Are you asking if it booted successfully after flashing? Yes it did.
But, in the Kernel Version it still says : "[email protected] #1". Wouldn't it be different if you recompiled it?

i wont be working on custom kernels for Xperia P, Sola & U as i dont have those devices and in anycase i dont have time to work on them...
honestly i would have LOVED to, but due to lack of time i will be barely able to support the existing devices i have (ARC, PLAY, S)... so i dont want to take up additional responsibilities when i know that i wont have time to work on those devices as of now...

Goodluck nevertheless, have fun in IIMA

it works. the phone is rooted now, but keep in mind to do a backup of your sms/whatsapp/app, before flash this kernel.
I hear sometimes, a strange "tic tic" from the speaker, never heard before flashing doomkernel.
I will keep testing this
Thank you man!

I had the same problem even when I was on the stock Kernel. Very rarely though. So I'm pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with the Kernel posted by DoomLord.
DoomKernel perhaps?
it's was disappointing...DooMKernel is very good kernel...
doesnt work for me
type all in, but said that i need root access
edit: ok...i got it

I understand, but you shouldn't worry, there are many devs interested in this phone.
I being one of them will be quick to create custom kernel once I get my device (month or 2) and I will be working in the FreeXperia team to bring CM9 to this device
Although, I wouldn't say I am as good as DooMLoRD, I'm sure you will enjoy the work of me and other developers

The Vault 101
Ssup people...im back with another beautiful thread..this time on How to Flash Kernels..again in Full Hd..:good:
FAQs
1.Whats a Kernel??
A.Kernel is something that sits between your OS and the hardware..It manages the resources ie..memory mangement, task management etc
2.How many kernels do we need??
A.Only one.
3.What are the types of kernels??
A.Stock Kernels and Custom Kernels.
4.I have a locked bootloader.Can i flash custom kernels??
A.Nnly stock kernels can be flashed. For custom kernels, you need to unlock your bootloader.
5. How do I unlock the bootloader??
A. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33673970&postcount=2
6. How to flash stock kernel??
A. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973017
There are 3 methods for flashing a kernel
1.Flashtool
a) ADB
b) Fastboot
2.CMD
3.Kernel Flasher
1. FLASHTOOL
Requirements
1. Flashtool
Official Site http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1352015649000
4Shared http://www.4shared.com/zip/JeZM_nDa/flashtool-0980-windows.html
After downloading and unzipping..please install in C:/ Drive
2. Custom Kernel
Get one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316394
Procedure
I. Copy Kernel file to C:/ > Flashtool > Firmwares >
II. Install drivers(Fastboot) Goto C:/ > Flashtool >drivers and click on Flashtool-drivers.exe
III.Open Flashtool C:/ > Flashtool and right click on FlashTool.exe(32 bit) or FlashTool64.exe(64 bit) and "run as administrator"
IV. In your phone..
Select MSC mode..Goto Xperia>Connectivity>USB connection mode
Select Unknown sources..in Security
Select USB debugging..in Developer options..
Select Stay awake..if u want..
Now you have two options..either go via A) ADB or B) Fastboot
Only one step differs...between the two
A) ADB
I. Just connect your phone to PC.
II. Click on the flash icon(top left) and select Fastboot mode.
III. Now click "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB)"
IV.Once the device is connected in fastboot mode...click on "Select kernel to Flash"
V. Now select the kernel you wanna flash and click open.
DONE!!!!
B)Fastboot
I. Power Off...Hold Menu button...Insert USB
II. Click on the flash icon(top left) and select Fastboot mode.
III.Once the device is connected in fastboot mode...click on "Select kernel to Flash"
IV. Now select the kernel you wanna flash and click open.
DONE!!!!
2.CMD
Requirements
1.Fastboot.zip
View attachment fastboot.zip
Download the zip and extract to get fastboot folder.
2. Custom Kernel
Get one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316394
Procedure
I. Open fastboot folder.
II. Copy the kernel image in the folder.
III. Now hold shift button on keyboard and right click in the folder. Click on "open command window here". A command prompt window should open up.
IV. Now we type in this code and hit enter.
Code:
[B]fastboot flash boot boot.img [/B]
V. It'll say waiting for device..Now switch off your phone..after a few seconds..hold MENU button and connect USB..(while holding that button)
VI. Done. Check for any errors..if no errors are shown. Boot it up!! :good:
FAQs
1. The kernel I've downloaded has a 'name.img' and not boot.img??
A. While typing the code...in the end type name.img..in place of boot.img
Eg. 1.Lupus Kernel (File name says LuPuS_haida_v3-jB.img)...so the code should be..(Note that I haven't used capitals..)
fastboot flash boot lupus_haida_v3-jb.img
2. Alliance Kernel (boot_ics_v1_5.img)..and so the code
fastboot flash boot boot_ics_v1_5.img
3.Kernel Flasher
A very useful tool made by Ghostfreak NB for flashing kernels(img, elf and sin) :good:

FAQs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25615630&postcount=3
1. How much can I overclock??
A. Depends on the custom kernel.
2. Is it safe to overclock??
A. Maybe. You can go upto 1.4Ghz but anything above that for long periods would kill the processor.
3. Is overclocking useful??
A. Yea. It does increase performance.
Get the right combo of Clockspeed, Governor and I/O Scheduler and your phone will fly
4. I flashed a kernel...now wifi doesnt work??
A. Flash the wifi modules for that kernel.

Hello !
I have a small problem that I can't find the answer to, more precisely I'm using MIUIv4 3.2.22 ROM and I want to flash another kernel. Using fastboot, I get the message that I don't have root permissions.
Is there a way to overcome this issue ?
Best regards,

Have you unlocked your bootloader?
Yes, Unlocked BL.
I tried with 3 or 4 kernels (compatible with the ROM I have on the device).
The message I get is that I don't have root permissions. (something like that).
@Ghostfreak..yea i've seen that thread before...but i thought it would be overwhelming..this is a newbie guide afterall...so dint add
@Tavix92...Update root binary..nd try again...if problem persists try CMD method..nd report...

How do I update / replace root binary on MIUI ?
Open superuser app..nd update binary...sorry for the fancy word 'root binary'
Well, I understood that, don't worry
The small problem is that on MIUI I can't find a way to do that. The app managing root access is called Permission Manager (v. 3.3.1076).
Can this be fixed ? If not, what ROM would you recommend for Xperia Neo V ?
Sorry man.. Donno...never tried MiUi..
Nd bout roms..there are several gud ones..ViperXperia, UltimateHD,RevolutionICS, Pureness,...check them out...im not gonna tell you which is the best rom.. So dont ask..try urself
