So I recently took the leap and took my rooted S2 and put various ROMS on it. For the life of me I cannot figure out the keyboard lag. It starts fine, and, then at times it will slow down so much it's almost impossible to type. It happens on CM9, Ultimatium, SHOstock is the worst and i tried Foxhound, love it, but same issue. And it's not the screen, it's recognizing the buttons pushed from what I can tell, but the device just does not register every keystroke.
I have read and read and just cant find a solution.
Any ideas?
I have only noticed that my t or h key doesnt always get registered, otherwise its fine.

Have you tried fluxxi kernel? It has extensive touch settings so people with screen protectors (maybe you have one?) can really tweak the sensitivity. There's also a "gingerbread" preset that people, incl. myself have been happy with. Also, have you tried changing the touch sensitivity setting on CM9 (and some other ROMs)? It's in System settings > Advanced (or Device Settings) IIRC.
Siyah kernel also has adjustable sensitivity via the ExTweaks app.

Thank you!
I got the Fluxxi kernel. Any chance you might be able to tell me where the "gingerbread" preset is?
I'm going to play around with CM9 again, I'm using AOKP right now, and it seems to be ok.
Did you install the xxTweaker app from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26350589&postcount=1 ? All of the configurable settings are controlled by xxTweaker.
If not, do that first, and then open the app. You'll find it under "Display".

Greeting everyone.
I recently got an Android and I also recently decided to root and stick a custom ROM on it. Everything went fine and dandy with that and I'm currently on Cryanogen 9 Alpha ROM (it's spectacular to say the least).
On the default ROM you could choose to turn off the key lights (I'm talking about the touch keys on both sides of "the master button"). However, neither does Cryanogen 7 or 9 offer me this option and because I'm so used to it, lights seem weird and unnecessary.
So, after searching the interwebz for a while, I couldn't find anything useful and hence my post.
Thanks in advance for any help given.
Furthermore, fantastic video!
Bump! (Too few characters apparently).

This requires .bln (BackLightNotifiation) mod which isn't featured in my current ROM (Cyanogen 9).
Thanks for the input anyhow.
I would like to know this too. The keys are allways on in CM9 unfortunately

It turns out that you can turn them off in CM7 but unfortunately I'm yet to find a fix for CM9.
you can try to modify the following script in the middle of this post to make it work in cm9

Thanks a bunch for the link.
I'll definitely give it a try when I have a bit of spare time.
EDIT: This script also requires BLN (which I talked about above) and after searching long and hard, I have found out that there is no ICS kernel with BLN support (while some others knew this, I certainly didn't).
After looking around further it seems that I/we won't get the feature for a while since BLN seems to be the only way apart from integration within the ROM (like it is within TouchWiz or CM7) that you can turn off your soft keys.
Latest build of CM9 has removed backlight!
'Tis a glorious day.

Wow, I've been looking for a way to disable the keys and while the script won't work for me messing with the settings did the job, that was my only issue so far. Cheers for the share. I'm using MIUI with siyah if anyone cares in order to make it work.
PS: games and movies look much better with no white lights :O
EDIT: Well, guess I was beat by the software had a notification during the night, and now the lights only stay off until the first time the screen gets turned off, after that they go back to their normal behaviour unless I reboot :|. On the look again for another way.
EDIT 2: Ok, I'm not giving up, for now I found yet another way for anyone interested (you need a BLN kernel however).
I installed BLN Control Pro, disabled everything and put BLN blinking: On and Led OFF time 3 minutes.
Now what I do is enter Test mode, turn the screen off and on, and now, the lights will be off for as long as I keep the program running. The only problem with this, is that BLN stops the phone from going into Deep Sleep, so I just need to remember to turn the test mode off and to disable BLN whenever I don't need the buttons off.
It's not a pretty solution but for now it's the best I could come up.
no setting for that
I just updated from cm7 to cm9 and it's great. I used the latest SKankwich rom and the latest icy glitch kernel. However I had no bln which is important to me. I tried using version 3 of icy glitch as well as siriyah and the apps nstools, bln control, and extweaks in different combinations but nothing works.
Can someone tell me what to use and walk me through the process step by step? Maybe I'm not erasing the right stuff. I'm willing to start from stock. Thanks!
I read somewhere that I should be able to get the bln to work if I use an older version of icy glitch but I'm not sure which one to use.
Again, can someone walk me through this from stock? I can get to cwm but after that I'm not sure the proper order of applying things to get this to work.
The end goal is if I get a text or other notification, I don't want the soft keys to turn off at any point until I check that message. Whatever kernel gets me there on cm9
Icyglitch version 3? The latest version is B6.
Yeah it's up to 6. But on 6 I got no bln. Maybe I got bad info but I read someone say that the last time icy glitch was compatible with bln was version 3 or 4
Just throwing this out there too. No matter what I do, my screen won't rotate. All the right boxes are checked under display...
I don't have any of these issues.
As for rotation, you may need nova or apex. Look under launcher settings for rotation there.
Use nstools to set led notifications. They work perfectly here.
Did you wipe data prior to flashing the ics rom?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Yes I believe I wiped data. Did factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik.
Looking at nstools, my led timeout was set to 0. I thought that meant it would never timeout. I just set it to 1800. Think that was the problem?
Also what is cmled?
For the past week or so my phone has had flickering multicolored lines flash across the homescreen(s)/lockscreen when I turn the display back on. Sometimes it will also happen if I'm sitting on the homescreen with the display already on.
Here is my Rom history as the problem began:
Was on supernexus (Android 4.2.2 I believe) - issue was not present
Flashed Unofficial Slim build 6 (wiped cache/dalvik/factory reset before install)- started having the issue
Flashed Unofficial Slim build 6.2 (wiped cache/dalvik)- issue still present
Flashed AOCP 5.7 yesterday (wiped cache/dalvik/factory reset and formatted internal SD)- thought issue was gone, but it started happening again today.
I tried taking screenshots but the issue disappears as soon as I press the volume+power button to take the screenshot. This only seems to happen when I'm on the homescreen/lockscreen, I dont think it has happened while in any other apps.
I'm wondering if this might be an issue with the specific version of the Nova launcher, as I believe that is the common denominator between these Roms (isn't AOCPs launcher based on CM's nova?). I just installed go launcher and the problem seems to be gone (for now).
Has anyone else seen something like this? I apologize if this has been discussed somewhere, I spent several hours searching Google and XDA before posting. I can post a picture later when I have access to another camera phone.
Same issue here
I have the same issue at the lock screen. Prevalent on all JB roms I have tried, carbon, revolt & slim bean.
I'm currently using Carbon nightly. I have not seen a fix for this yet. I have heard it might be an issue with the processor waking up from sleep.
After installing Go Launcher Ex opening it a couple times and then going back to using the Aspire launcher that came with AOCP, I haven't had this issue again all afternoon. Didn't have it at all yesterday though, so it might come back.
I played around with all the brightness settings but it didn't seem to do anything. Do you happen to have any pictures of the effect you are getting? I'll try and post a picture of mine tonight if it happens again. Thanks!
About 3 hours ago, I changed some GPU & lock screen settings and the issue has not reappeared.
I will post back either later tonight or tomorrow morning with some info.
I haven't taken any photos of the problem yet. By the way, do you usually experience the issue on lock screen coming from a screen off state?
ditto on this. I have Cyanogenmod 10.1 installed and I get these lines intermittently.
Try turning off CRT animations and disable hw overlays.

disabling hardware overlays always fixes it for me
same issue
Have the same issue going on had freezing and resolved that now I'm stuck on these lines multiple diff ROMs I am running cm10 I see people saying he overlays can someone provide a little more info on what that is and where to find it? Attaching screen shots of these multi color lines we speak of
Nvm can do it with the browser will edit this later and add them with a pc

Go to settings, developer options scroll half way down and you will find it. You will have to disable it every time you reboot or you can use two paid apps from the market. These apps are tasker and secure setting they are both worth every cent.

Do you have any backlight handling apps? I used lux all the time and it stopped after I disabled it.

Just enabled "Disabled HW overlay" and "Force GPU rendering". Like some of the users suggested, I found about the possible solution from this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhhPPke_Nbw
(go to 1:40)
I usually get the flickering with the lock screen (I use WidgetLocker Lockscreen). I was having some flickering this morning and checking both of those options seemed to immediately cut out the flickering.
I ran across it(the flickering lines) on one of the 4.2.2 roms, can't remember exactly which one but what I ended up having to do was disable one of the tweak apps it came with and install Trickster Mod only. Worked for me, no more flickering or rebooting, not sure what the cause may have been but have had no other issues after that for I believe it was 2 weeks
Please elaborate

By chance can you give some more details about this Trickster Mod like where to find it and what it is supposed to do?
A link to a thread would be great

Scroll down to my post there. If you still need help, just let me know.
Trickster mod I believe is mainly for Rom's that have Kernels that can be OC'd or Under Clocked. Kind of the same as Android Tweaker or SetCPU but is a little smoother for me IMO.
[Q] Flashing/blinky screen in black but only on "application level" of display
Hey folks,
So what I'm seeing is the application area/layer of the screen blacking-out in a blinky way, and this seems to happen when there's screen updates like from the application or when I'm scrolling with my finger. The weird thing is this only seems to affect the "application level" layer -- the Status bar and other things like CPU usage (and overlay apps like SwipePad) are unaffected and don't black-flash.
I'm running PAC-MAN ROM (Android 4.4.4) but have experienced this on other ROMS so I think this is either a Note i717 thing and/or something that I'm doing to create this issue. It actually happened with less intensity with other roms of previous Android versions. (probably back to 4.4.2)
What I done wrong? I'm getting a hurt real bad. (a Russell Peters reference, for those who haven't heard his older material)

If you would consider this a screen flicker, you may want to try disabling HW Overlay in the developer options.
Another option may be to read up on POLLUTIONS "Patch". There is a thread for it, but I cannot say as to what issues it will fix. Apparently it is a miracle cure in tye Beanstalk thread.
Thats why I say....read on it first.

Yeah those are some good ideas, but here's some more info:
I don't have the HW Overlay option enabled.
The "flickering" is not the entire screen, and it's more like a "black flicker", and ONLY on the "application layer"
I found the patch you mentioned in this thread and I'll see if it addresses it when I get a chance to work on the device.
Oddly, I just booted the phone with OTG HDMI connected to a monitor and the flicker is gone! :/ Not really a solution but an interesting oddity.
Hey guys,
I recently changed my i9100 SGS2 from stock firmware to CM11m7. I have to say, I am really impressed with the increase in speed and the new options it gives me. One of those options that I just found out about is BLN. Since the SGS2 has no notification led, and NoLED draws quite some battery, this seems like a nice feature.
Of course I figured out that BLN is not supported by the CM11 kernel. So I upgraded to the kernel from Gustavo_s (the newest build from 06/21). As of yet, I am not really sure though which software or settings I need to get BLN running! What I've done so far is that I installed STweaks. This recognizes that my kernel supports BLN. When I switch to the BLN tab in STweaks, I am able to configure BLN to my liking, and also the test works fine (Click on Test BLN, switch off screen with power button, touchkeys get illuminated).
However, I have not understood yet how I can make my applications put a notification to be shown by those leds. WhatsApp for example has a setting to show notifications with the led. But it doesn't show anything. Then, most of the stock apps seem to just have no such option, since notification led is no feature of SGS2 (but I thought that the BLN mod inside Gustavo_s' kernel would take care at least for the apps that have such setting).
So I thought that maybe the much used app BLN control might do the trick. Upon starting, this gives me the message that my current liblights does not support BLN. No idea what to do with this. If I can upgrade, if I need another kernel. Simply no idea. And the app's homepage doesn't give me any hint. Another thing I tried was Light Flow. Here I have two extra options in the LED setting, one being sec_touchkey and the other being touchkey panel. Activated both. Also activated root mode. No chance. Even the notification test in Light Flow doesn't light any of the two touchkey leds.
Has anyone any idea, what I need to do? Can I upgrade liblights? Is it a thing of the kernel? Any suggestions maybe for another kernel to use (Dorimanx maybe?).
Any help is much appreciated!

The post of Gustavo_s clearly say:
KNOWN PROBLEMS
- Stweaks is not working at the moment, and i can't work to fix it because of reasons above.
Still, however, there is a workaround
Install Gustavo_s Kernel's from 21/4 (search for it) + STweaks
Really, its my config.
Cheers
Im speak spanish, sorry.
Or use Gustavo_s Kernel's with synapse.
