I read this was present in the earlier galaxy phones but not in the GS3? Any app that can do this?
Yep a app called Display brightness by RubberBigPepper does just that.
sorry i cant link you to it as I cant post links here.. yet.
I'm really annoyed that this isn't on the S3 - It's a feature that I used all the time on both my S2 & S1.
Thanks for the tip GT2.0 - I'm going to check it out.
Link is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness for anyone else..
Someone else suggested InvisiBright (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DanGirshovich.T4BF - free version, there's a pro as well), so both could be worth a shot.
Edit: Tried both, neither really replicate the same function.. Close-ish (Display Brightness) but not the same.
Yeah. The slider is something very useful. I don't understand why they removed it. Along with Swype ....
poor samsung removed that feature, lets hope they add it back in future rom updates.
Can only hope it is just disabled and the devs can enabled it

According to this (http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/samsung-galaxy-s3-tips-and-tricks.html), it can be done. Make sure auto brightness is off, or it won't work. Wouldn't on the S2 either that way.
Not that I used that feature on my s1, but I knew of it and it did work.
Out of interest I just disabled auto brightness and tried it on my s3 and it did not work. To me it appears article is wrong.

Hi guys,
Got my S2 yesterday after having had HTC for a few years and sony.
I know on the samsungs that there is no LED status light for missed call, text etc but I also know you can get an app to do it.
I have been trying no led but find that its not working very well and very unreliable.
Can anyone offer any alternative suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Have you heard of BLN? I don't think there's support for it on the SII yet. Basically it turns the capacitive touch keys into backlight LEDS. It was a useful feature on my Galaxy S I9000; I came from HTC as well and missed the LED. This works just as good. You need a custom kernel that supports BLN though and as I've said I havent seen any support as yet...
But give it time and I'm sure there will be
I had come accross that one. Hopefully a kernel will come that supports it Thanks for you help
How about this free app from Android Market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.led.notify
Thats what im using, but not finding it very good as it keeps changing settings etc
No led works great for me
Me also want a custom kernel who had bln and undervolt included! ... ;-)
No led does work, but I dont find it reliable as it constantly displays the wrong image or even nothing at all
How do I stop it turning the screen off if its already on?
For example, im using handcent. If im reading or writing a txt and another comes through, it switches the screen off to show the dot. can this be changed?
Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the tab's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Many thanks!, Looks very interesting, will try it out and see how it does with my Tab.
Let me know if the light sensor work properly please!
Got Pro version on my phone, works great.
Will try it on my tab soon.
I'll check it out when i get home.
Works great on my tab too. Thanks mate.
Edit: I noticed on my phone after testing it on and off a few times, the light sensor stopped working. But after rebooting, I havent seen the problem since.
And I've yet to see a problem on my tab.
So the light sensor works? Can you log some sensitivity settings for me so i can fine tune it...

Like in different lighting settings? Like dimming the lights in the room? Or using different Sensitivity %s and closing the case?
Or all of the above?
Oh and after some extensive use on my DroidX, I've been having some problems. It turns off while I'm using the phone even in very lighted surroundings.
---------- Post added at 09:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------
I'm at work right now but I tried a few things.
I'm using a Belkin Folio case and i tested to see how low i could set the % for it to read when the case was closed.
Anything under 10% didn't work (even when i completely covered the light sensor with my finger)
On 100%, even a shadow over the sensor would trigger it.
I'll try a few different lighting instances when I get home.
Thats cool, thanks!

Still having issues with it on my DroidX. I've been trying different things but I dont think its user error.
You should be using the proximity sensor, not the light sensor for the phone!

Actually...to be honest, I dont even need it on my phone because its a habit of mine to hit the power button as im setting it down or putting it in my pocket.
I do love it on my tab though. Makes it easier just being able to close my case instead of trying to find the power button lol.
Can't remove this app from my tab! Help please

Do you have "Enable Power Switch" Checked?
EDIT: If you're using a tablet with a case that covers the screen when you close it, here's what you need...
1. Check "Enable Power Switch"
2. Check "Admin Permissions" (this gives the app permission to lock your screen or turn the tablet off)
3. Check "Enable Sensors"
4. Check "Use Light Sensors" (I recommend 10-20% Sensitivity)
5. Set up your Confirmation and Activation Delay.
---Activation Delay is how long it takes for the device to read if the case is closed or not. (If you set it to 0 seconds, your screen will cut off even if you simply brush something up against the light sensor on accident) I keep mine at 3 seconds.
---Confirmation Delay starts after you Activation Delay ends. It is a confirmation dialogue box that asks what you want to do. Once the timer for it runs out, it will lock your screen/turn the screen off. (I keep mine at 3 seconds for this as well but you might want it longer)
To recap...Set Activation Delay for how long you want the device to wait before it makes a decision if it should turn off your screen or not. Set Confirmation Delay for how long you want it to wait after the Activation Delay ends to actually turn off the screen.
((If you don't have a case that covers the screen and you want it to turn off when you put your tab upside down, replace step 3 with *Check "Acceleration Sensor"* And make sure you Uncheck "Use Light Sensor"))
Hi all,
When I charge my HP TP running CM9 nightly, a clock screen is displayed automatically. I note that after my screen time out period of five minutes, the screen does power off, however when I wake up in the morning the screen is on displaying the clock screen - I guess email or some other notifications turn the screen back on.
Basically, can I change the behaviour so that when I put the TP onto the Touchstone, nothing special happens and this clock isn't displayed? I have an app that switches the screen off when the case is closed, and essentially this charging behaviour is interfering with this. I don't want the TP clock blazing away lighting the screen up all night.
Thanks,
Andy
Wow some refuse to do any work on their own....
If you want to shut the screen down all you have to do is hit the power button and the screen shuts down
As far as the Desk Clock app... You simply go into app manager and clear the defaults for it

I'm puzzled by your sarcasm - no, I can't figure this out by myself as I can't identify the configurable part of android that triggers this clock front end. I had Googled it but I can't find a suitable answer there either. Whilst I can shut the screen off with the power button, as per my original post when I wake up in the morning the screen has come back on.
Cheers!

Then you have something installed waking your TP that we have no way of troubleshooting without some type of log.... when you shut the screen down there is no reason for Android to turn it back on unless YOU have EXPLICITLY given an app YOU installed permission to do so. As far as the clock... when you set the TP on the Touchstone one of two things happens... a dialog box comes up with the apps that can by default be activated when placed on Touchstone OR YOU HAVE designated a default app to do this....
Now if YOU can't remember which app YOU ALLOWED to run then you have one of two choices.... go through all the apps in app manager clearing all defaults OR wipe all data and start from scratch and pay attention to what you press this time

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately you are wrong.
I only have the clock app installed that triggers when the device docks - no other apps respond to this event, therefore when I dock the device I don't get presented with the option/choice, it just displays the clock as there is no alternative. I've found the best solution to be to install 'Screen Off ' from the market. This has an option to act on the dock event, and now when I put the device on the dock I get given the choice as to whether to show the clock or to power off the screen. This works pretty much perfectly, and without the clock showing the screen stays off, instead of coming back on randomly after I shut it off - therefore, I don't think that the clock was coming back on before due to notifications from apps/emails, but be cause the clock app itself was triggering - possibly when the device reaches full charge or something and temporarily disconnects from the dock or something, I don't know. In summary, you need more than one app installed that is coded to respond to the dock event, otherwise when you dock the device android just defaults to the dock event and powers the screen back on periodically. I have never explicitly enabled this behaviour, and without installing another app it seemingly cannot be changed or disabled.
I thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, but I think you should learn something from this thread - just because a problem may seem to be user error doesn't necessarily mean that it is - your post is completely wrong which is fine as I appreciate that you are just trying to help, but by getting all aggressive over it you've just ended up looking a little stupid. The forums should be all about helping people, not ridiculing them - hopefully this post will serve to help anyone out with a similar predicament.
Cheers.
Ignore cdzo72 - he's one of the most sarcastic members of this forum. He seems to have a hate on for anyone who has an issue with anything, and can't solve it for themselves. You get used to him, and ignoring him.

The clock app doesn't trigger itself. Mine charges all night and never turns back on. That said, it is almost impossible to move the pad while it's on the TS without charge disconnecting and reconnecting. And that will trigger the clock app. So, if you have the TS on an unstable surface that allows ir to be inadvertently "jiggled", that could cause the clock to turn back on.

Hey Man,
I don't know if it affects other devices to be honest. On my phone the clock app is configurable, but on my Cyanogenmod9 HP TP tablet it isn't something that you can change the behaviour of (if you tap the stock 'Clock' app it just locks the screen and displays a clock, you cant set any options like on my SGSII). I don't know if this is a feature of tablet OS'es in general, or just the CM iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Either way, the 'Screen Off' app references working with a number of docks (blurb specifically references Sony ones) so I'd give it a shot and hopefully it will work for you.
I had that problem too, it was very annoying. I installed dock no op from the market and it finally stopped waking me up. That seems like the only option since cm9 doesn't let you set the dock behavior.
So I am wondering if there is a way to turn off the LED lights within Tasker? I have a night profile where it turns down all the sounds, vibrations, etc etc but noticed last night that the LED light was flashing for some emails I had come in. I had a look in the tasker settings but I couldn't see any that would disable the LED?
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?
OK, I shall keep up this conversation with myself (the voices in my head make me feel like it's a normal conversation with others though ). I found the setting in tasker to turn off the led - it's in the audio section and it's called 'notification pulse'. In my night profile I have now set that to 'off' but it made no difference and any emails during the night had the led flashing
You can use Light Flow to disable notifications at a certain time, plus you can do a lot of customisation.
You need root.

I reckon, you don't need root w light flow, but other than that bortak is absolutely right. Light flow does all that and perfectly.
Yes, you are totally right. I have installed and uninstalled lightflow a few times already. While it does do that for me, it's just not quite working right. I kept on having a notification light flashing after dismissing or viewing a notification. It just wouldn't stop flashing. That was bugging me more than the extra features I got out of the app, so I've removed it again.

this is because you havemt set the "clear notification style" parameter. set it to 'screen on'. so that once you wake up the screen al notifications are cleared and u wont see that blink again. Normally it is set to 'app entered', where you have to go to the app (or the phone and click on the missed call etc). set it to what I told to all your notifications.
Thanks. I'll take another look at that. I thought I had it set that way but wouldn't be surprised to see I was wrong. I do think that I'd tried entering the app as well when it wouldn't clear, and still wouldn't.
Hi!
Im searching nearly same. Im looking for a solution to switch off and switch on this notofication Led like i want by a tasker or by a widget 1 click.
I dont really like the app light flow.
Tasker is audio>notification pulse
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks rootSU. I had found that, but it doesn't seem to be working on the S3. I found the tasker google group and some similar problems exist there. One is having the same problem as me, and another I think is trying to turn the led on but it's not working; all S3's. Maybe tasker isn't optomised for this on the s3 yet?
I've found lightflow to be hit or miss. Sometimes the led keeps flashing even when the notification is dismissed (have checked my settings, even tried different ones), and the day before flashing for sms's stopped working. Even a reboot didn't fix it. So, I lived without the led's on my S1 and I'll do the same here. I had them on last night and kept waking to a notification of some kind and found that too annoying.
Thanks for the help and suggestions guys. Appreciate it.
Just a widget 1 click to switch would be perfect for me.

Don't suppose anyone's come up with any more ideas about this? I have emailed the tasker developers and I don't think they were 100% sure, but didn't think the notification pulse setting was for disabling the led's completely. I still try playing with lightflow every now and then, but the little bugs I have (mostly sms notification led not dismissing without reboot or entering lf app (only thing that works is having manual dismissal but it's a pain)) are still present for me. I also tried it with handcent but was getting no led notifications.
Hey guys,
I figured out a fix for the Verizon Galaxy S3. I know there are differences between the way the international version and US versions handle the notification light, but it might at least give you guys a starting point. You do need root.

need help jellyverse rom v0.3 i get notified even after turning off the led in the settings it blinks blue not big of a deal but does seem to drain battery after a few hours
Has anyone found a way to do this yet? Notification Pulse doesn't work, at least on the SGS3. I have tried LightFlow in the past, I found it buggy and uninstalled it.

Hi all. Just the other day I finally made the leap from my venerable Motorola Droid X2 to the Samsung Galaxy S4. While I have yet to root it, I was hoping someone could explain how I could get the air view hovering and swipe gestures to work. I've triple checked things are turned on, watch several youtube videos and nada. Is it a problem w/the VZW build, a feature issue in general or am I just an idiot? It's very possible it's me! Lol. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Now I don't know if any of these could affect it, but I am running Nova Launcher, Unity Launcher and Swiftkey. Not rooted and everything else is pretty much factory stock. I did try returning to the stock launcher and disabling Unity Launcher and there was no change.
Oh and BTW, I'm getting about 12hrs of battery, is that normal for this phone? I could go all day on my X2 so that's a bit of a letdown but otherwise this thing rocks!
No issue here...toggle on...in the settings there is a sub menu for air gestures and all the other ones.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I heard the air view hover feature only works in some apps. Where are you using it that it is working. I'll go through settings again to make sure I didn't miss something. Thanks.
Yea it only work w/stock apps like stock gallery and stock browser.im having non problems here yea sometimes it doesnt work but alot of times it does. I only use stock launcher and I get up to around 20hrs from full battery to 5%
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Ok, so we're going to go with the I'm an Idiot option... While I thought I had these features turned on apparently I didn't dig down deeply enough into the sub-menus. I have it more or less working now. One thing I found is while the hover-preview works in text messaging, the top one is not responsive, but all others from the 2nd spot down to the bottom of the screen are. In email I don't have that issue though. Too bad it doesn't work w/gmail.
Yea it would be tight if it did lol
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Ok, this is weird, so the hovering in text mesaaging is not an issue with the top conversation. For some reason it won't display comments from certain people regardless of thier onscreen position.
WAIT - figured it out - if the text message is small enough and already fits in the 1-line preview below the sender then the hover bubble does not pop up but if the message is greater than 1 line THEN it works - ok that makes sense.
So now that I have these features working, I just need to figure out how to improve battery. I'm going to install some battery monitors to see what the culprit(s) are that are sucking it dry and take it from there. I guess after that rooting it will be my next step.
