NRG GB to STOCK ICS - HTC Amaze 4G

I bought the Amaze recently. I didn't like the battery life, so I looked for a remedy from the internet.
My search led me here. I found people changed kernels, disabled bloatware, and controlled CPU speeds. That all sounded great. I found newb-proof articles and tools for GB. [Caution: I'm am fresh off the newb canoe, now entering the Android rapids.]
I tried a few ROMs here. I enjoyed my experience with GB, but ICS was hyped to be so much better.
Once I tried to go to ICS, I found all of the guides didn't work for me.
I have read about a dozen articles here on how to do this process.
The last process I tried to move to ICS from rooted GB goes as follows:
Reset to factory, through bootloader (no backup; is that a problem?)
Put latest OTA file from Football to ext sd directory (not external card, only directory name)
Flash stock recovery
Relock boatloader
Reboot to recovery after taking battery out (to prevent security warning; would that matter?)
See a green refresh symbol then a red triangle (an apparent error)
I am not sure how to do this any better.
The next steps I would take are to unlock (thanks hassoon2000), flash twrp, wipe all cache, install NRG, use either TB or 4ext (suggestions welcome for any other backup program), get go launcher set (suggestions welcome for alternatives), then eat up the fancy sandwich.
If I missed that one post or one detail that you know of, then all the thanks button pushes go to you for your help.

Rename ICS ruu from football to "PH85IMG" (u did NOT mention that u did this step) and put the .zip file on the root of your sd. Boot into "relocked" bootloader and push power button to select "bootloader" option.
There are SEVERAL THREADS that explain this.

I knew I would go to the bad side if I posted this, but I didn't want this to get lost in old posts.
Another point I forgot, I can't find the "root " folder anymore. I had it before I tried ICS OTA (tmo guy caught me off guard when he said to try the OTA ASAP)

There is no "root" folder... That just means put on your sd card WITHOUT putting it in any folders. U never had a root folder. You need to read more. U obviously have no clue what u are doing. Learning should be do.e before wrecking your $500 phone... Not after

1. Download the stock ruu from here
2. Lock your bootloader by using the fastboot command "fastboot oem lock"
3. Reboot to system
4. Flash the stock RUU you downloaded by placing it in the root of your external sd card and renaming it PH85IMG.zip and rebooting to bootloader.
5. Once you have the stock rom reinstalled, set the security lock by using fastboot command " fastboot oem writesecureflag 3

I followed the directions in the link in your sig as closely as I can.
I found I can't reboot into system after relocking the bootloader. I assume that's not expected.
Also, to flash the ruu, I need to boot into bootloader, then select recovery to flash. (the recovery leads to a screen that shows a green sync symbol that turns to a red triangle symbol)
Is that last step inferred?

I don't know if this will help, but I was in a similar situation and could not upgrade to ICS. I had clockworkmod and that seemed to be the issue. I had already restored a previous backup but could not flash a stock ruu. It would load and then return to the hboot menu without ever giving the option to install. The fix was to use hasoon's all in one tool to flash the stock recovery. That's all I did. After that the OTA update installed fine. I never relocked the bootloader.

I tried that out, too.
I have the same problem when my phone is relocked with stock or custom recovery. It never boots into system, only fastboot.
I tried it unlocked. It seemed to ast longer on the green refresh symbol, but still went to the red triangle.
The only difference here is that I don't have a backup to restore to like you did.

Which stock ruu are you trying to install? If it's a stock GB or one of the ICS leaks, rename the file PH85IMG and reboot into bootloader, if it takes you to fastboot volume down to select bootloader and hit power, if it's the stock ICS OTA file, then read my tutorial how to use it on stock recovery.

I used the 2.14.531.3 file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644&highlight=ics+ota.
[I'll download it again, in case I had a bad download.]
I believe that is the latest OTA file for ICS.
Is the 1.43.531.3 the GB OTA or the ICS RUU?
I followed what you said:
flash stock recovery
relock phone (fastboot oem lock)
flash rom update in bootloader (rename ruu to ph85img.zip, place on sd card and boot to bootloader)
Click to collapse
I do not have a separate mSD card (I have one on order), I used the phone's internal memory.
The other difference I see is I named it PH85IMG.zip.

I downloaded the 2.14.531.3 file again.
Named it ph85img.zip. Put it on the root of the internal memory.
Flashed stock recovery.
Relocked the bootloader.
Took the battery out to remove the security warning found on the bootloader after relocking.
Rebooted to bootloader (vol down + power button).
Selected bootloader, then recovery.
Green refresh symbol then red triangle.
Now it boots only into bootloader.
I am going to unlock then stay in my GB house for now.
[edit] I do not want to S-OFF as of right now, but I'm considering it more so than ever.

You didn't actually add the ".zip" did you? Because that's just the file extension and is already there. Rename to PH85IMG

I did read about the .zip.zip troubles others had.
I have my extensions displayed, as to avoid that problem.
Fair point though.
Edit:
You don't need the stock recovery to go to stock. Just flash the stock ROM.

That started me off in the right direction; details below. Huge thanks to all those that participated here and to NRG and hassoon2000!
DETAILS:
I got the AIO 3.2 tool (had 3.0). Flashed 4ext. Did a Nandroid, system, data and boot.img backup (why not choose all of them?); copied the files to my netbook. Got a 4gb (32 gb in the mail) msd card loaded with ph85img.zip (latest 4.0 RUU for TMo file)and put it in the card.
Used the "boot to bootloader" command. Selected the recovery option.
The phone did what everyone else talked about: the phone went through the update process. Never happened until now.
I didn't lay a brick! Wow, what a relief.
I couldn't find my TiBackup, but there wasn't much on my phone.
Now my NRG'd phone is all set.

Need help installing MIKE1986 ICS 2.2! Please!

Hey guys, sorry if this question has been asked already. I searched (for over 2 hours, but couldn't find appropriate answers so i decided to ask a question). I don't want to brick my phone as I don't have money to get another one.
So I have a Tmobile HTC Amaze (rooted, s-on, Unlocked bootloader) I was running energy rom (GB version) for month or so. Now i want to flash Mike1986's ice cream ROM. Like they said, I installed/paid for 4ext Recovery.
I just need clarification on the steps? In MIKE's forum they kept talking about flashing firmware (i didn't understand what that was).
Can someone point me in right direction.
How do I go about flashing Mike's ROM without doing S-OFF.
Thanks for the help!
It's no big deal. Just download the file and save it to your external sd card or (if you don't have one) save it to the main directory of your internal card. Reboot the phone into the bootloader and the firmware package will automatically install. After that, you can reboot into recovery and flash the rom like normal. Make sure to delete the firmware file from your sd card afterwards though or if you ever boot back into bootloader it'll reintall itself again.
Why don't you s-off its really simple.

SO I placed MIKE's ROM File on a NEW SD card and went to bootloader menu from 42xt recovery, nothing popped up asking for update?
You need to place the firmware on the sd card first. It's named PH85IMG.zip . Once that is on your sd card, reboot the phone into bootloader, not recovery. If you're not sure how to do that, here's a foolproof way:
1. power off the phone
2. pull the battery out of the phone and reinsert.
3. HOLD (very important) the volume down then also push and HOLD the power button. The phone will automatically start into bootloader and load the update firmware.
The phone should restart afterwards. At that point, you can install Mike's rom from 4ext recovery.

At this point, I'm going to facepalm myself - you're s-on. I apologize for missing the obvious. It's a little more complex now. You'll first need to relock your bootloader. Then you have to download and flash the entire ICS leak. If you were s-off, then the process I outlined would work. No sweat though, I'm running ARHD 2.2 with s-on. Just follow this guide:

Haha sorry you missed that, i will try this. thanks for your help!

Lot's of dumb on my part, but any help would be great!

Okay, I'm pretty sure that the guys at the other forum site gave up on me. Starting to think that I'm stuck with a paperweight that illuminates a white HTC Screen. I've searched every forum and have had no luck, but here goes:
- I'm on day four of intense troubleshooting. Apparently I'm the only person to ever root a HTC Rezound and then flash a new rom using Rom Manager (first mistake).
-I flashed a new ICS Rom using Rom Manager. I did do a backup using Rom Manager and wiped all of the caches before doing the flash. There was no problem with the install, but once I rebooted, the HTC Screen was my only accomplishment. In addition to that, the CWM Recovery Tool did NOTHING.
After reading and reading, I finally realized that only idiots like myself would still be using Rom Manager over Aman-Ra. Therefore, I installed Aman-Ra via fastboot and flashed a few other roms trying to get past the HTC screen... All of this was without any success.
I was told in a forum by someone much smarter than myself that "the easiest way back to a working phone would be to simply install a new rom like: [ROM 7/11 CONROMV5][4.0.3OTA Sense3.6+DeSense][DeBloated Root Aroma Tweaks][CDMA/GSM]." I was next told that "Conrom will deposit the PH98IMG.zip file on the sd card." This never happened.
SO, Here's where I'm ending up:
It does not boot me into Fastboot after ROM install. Instead, It gives me a "Next" button at the bottom with a log that states:
--
-Checking Model ID
-Success!
Model ID - HTC Rezound (Vigor)
-Ok to proceed
Welcome to CONROM V4!!
Installing...
Sense Selected
Sense Extracted
Face Unlock REMOVE Selected
Face Unlock NOT Extracted
Beginning Experimental Security Identification
read_file() loading "/tmp/initrd.img" failed: No such file or directory
When I click "Next" I get another screen that says:
"Congratulations... CON ROM 4.0 has been installed successfully. Press Finish, and reboot your phone. If S-ON was detected, please reboot to bootloader to flash the boot image. Thanks.
It then goes into the regular reboot process. I do a battery pull, press power+vol down and go back into HBOOT, it runs through it's IMG Check and there's nothing there. I then created a PH98IMG.zip file from the boot image inside the rom's zipped folder. Tried flashing that, and I'm still looking at the HTC Screen.
I've gotten myself into tight jams before, but been able to figure it out... I'm just at the end of my rope here. Someone with more intelligence than myself please tell me what to do to get past this and I promise to never assume that flashing a rom to a Rezound is as easy as it was with my Thunderbolt.
Thanks to whomever takes pitty on me, in advance. (seriously, Thank you)
Start over with a stock RUU zip, renamed to PH98IMG.ZIP. Put it on the SD Card. let er run?
You say you can get to HBOOT?
the only thing that generally fixes huge problems like these are to run the FULL RUU (AKA pull a complete stock rom and rename it PH98IMG.zip, enter HBOOT and let it run TWICE!!) and let it reinstall EVERYTHING (including the radios and such.) Then go into the stock recovery, do a full restore.
Then unlock your boot loader and install Amon-Ra, root and flash a rom correctly
{Full RUU here http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...id-4-0-build-3-11-605-22-for-the-htc-rezound/
^ I don't think it is the most recent version, but it should do as long as it is GREATER than the leak you are already on}
Don't try this solution until someone else gives a thumbs up... I don't want to be the one who causes more harm to your phone hahahaha
EDIT: Changed it to PH98IMG, my bad! Should have proof read my post one more time.. Thanks Paulhoop for catching that!
Well he was more complete in his intstructions, but we are recommending the same thing.
However, just want to correct the typo above. PH98IMG... Not PH89IMG
Also not sure about the stock recovery, full restore. But I would let the stock RUU setup run once before going to AmonRa

You have to lock the bootloader first if you want to run the RUU.
First off...you said s-on..
Do you now what firmware you are on? Ginberbread or ICS? If you are on GB you should have installed a SD Card patch as part of your ROM flashing process. If you didn't, that is part of your problem. What happens when you try to flash the boot.img? Do you do it through fastboot? or PH98img file? It sounds like the boot.img is not flashed correctly.

Ok. First off, wow, what an awesome response. I had rooted the phone through fastboot, but was still on the stock GB. I didn't know about the SD Card Patch. When I try to flash the boot.img, I did that by extracting the boot.img from the rom folder, renaming to PH98.img, and running that through the HBOOT Process (I didn't try it with fastboot). The file would update, begin the "parsing' process, and then stop and go back to the basic HBOOT screen. What would be the correct way to flash the boot.img file? What patch should I have installed relating to the SD Card, and is it too late for that?

The boot file should be named ph98img.zip CHECK your named file (PH98.img???), the computer should put the .zip on it. Just be sure its not named ph93img.zip.zip!
The other way, if you're comfy with fastboot commands is to put the boot.img in the same directory as fastboot and type "fastboot boot boot.img" . No its not too late to do the SD Card Patch. You can get it here (among other places), I believe its the 'Old Firmware patch" http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/-Support_Files-/SuperChilPil/ . JUst flash in recovery.
The info for your ROM says that the installer would identify the need for the SD card patch, so maybe it did install it? Won't hurt to do it yourself though. Did you consider a more 'basic' ICS rom, like CLeanRom4.5 or the new rooted 3.14.605.12 one?
I'm on Newt's One xXx, ICS sense 4 rom myself.

[Q] Rezound Stuck At Lock Screen

Hi,
I am new here and this is my first post so forgive me if starting a new thread for this topic was wrong but I found my own situation slightly different from the others here who had the same problem.
I have a gsm unlocked rezound and was trying to get rid of the unknown sim error message at lock screen. I followed the steps mentioned on this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882355. I rooted the phone, downloaded the apk. Deleted the .odex file and replaced the existing apk with the downloaded one and rebooted. Now, I am stuck at the lock screen with no icons. But for the other people who faced similiar issue, they were able to open the home screen. I can't. I can see pop ups for sms/mail. I get ring when a call comes in but I cant pick. I tried hard reset. Tried booting without sim/sd card. Still no luck. I tried connecting the phone to my pc but now my pc wont recognise the phone when its connected. I can see icon on top of the phone which says USB connected and I also see sync icon, but it will not go any further. I dont know how to get into the phone's menu now.
I may have bitten more than I can chew, silly me :crying:
If you guys can help me in any way, I would appreciate that a lot.
OS : 4.0.3 ICS Running HTC Sense 3.6.

Thank you for the quick response. I have downloaded the file. I know this sounds stupid but I am a real rookie. I don't know how to do the flashing or how to get to the AOSP lock screen. If you could guide me through the process or maybe give me a link where I can learn it myself, it would be great.
Essentially since you already have rooted, you will(should) also have a custom recovery (TWRP, AmonRa, CWM). Install it as you would a regular rom but without any wipes until after flash of the zip. Dependent on which recovery you will want to look up their FAQ/QnA on how to wipe dalvik/cache.
Once you get inside the script, you will see what I meant by "Choose Sense & AOSP Lockscreen".

Yes the phone was rooted, but I used a rooting software from google apps from the phone. After I downloaded that app, it rooted the phone and brought in an extra icon. I remember it as SU root something, but I didnt do it from the pc. So I dont have any recovery on the pc. I used to sync the phone with htc sync. Unfortunately, right now, my pc wont recognise the phone. I tried root explorer for android from pc, it wont recognise the device. HTC sync too will not. But my phone seems to know when a USB is connected, it brings the usb icon on top but thats about it. ((
Ok, best suggestion at this point is to follow the instruction in the OP for installing TWRP in the Rezound development section.

Have you tried flashing a different rom?
If he's S-on and locked, he can simply flash the latest RUU can't he(just to get the phone working again). From there someone can help him set up adb, and s-off.

From what they posted, somehow they don't have a custom recovery even though they are rooted?
Can you put a PH98IMG.zip file of a recovery (either Amon Ra or TWRP) on your SD card and flash it in hboot? Then flash a custom ROM the same way from recovery.
You can take the SD card out and mount it on your pc and use your pc to copy over the recovery PH98IMG.zip file.
And oh yeah, I see what Obaterista... was saying. You should be able to flash the latest RUU from hboot. Here's a link for it:

Yes I rooted from a tool I found on android market. Noob me. So I do not have a recovery. I had downloaded the PH98IMG.zip and put it in my sd card and tried. The recovery starts and then shows a red exclamation and then nothing happens.
I was just trying different pages for help. Someone has mentioned that I should add the PH98IMG.zip as just PH98IMG and I shud not add the .zip. Thats the only thing left to try. I will post what happens when I do that.

Yes I have vigor, tried AmonRa, that did not work mate. It starts fastboot, gets stuck @ unpacking PH98IMG.diag and then nothing happens.
The bootloader screen says S-On. On top it says ***Tampered*** and below it ***UNLOCKED***.
Yes I rooted from a tool I found on android market. Noob me. So I do not have a recovery. I had downloaded the PH98IMG.zip and put it in my sd card and tried. The recovery starts and then shows a red exclamation and then nothing happens.

What you'll have to do is relock your boot loader, flash the RUU and then unlock again. From there you should be able to flash a recovery and flash a rom.

My phone is also soft bricked. I relocked the phone and now it just sits in hboot and won't do anything no matter if I yet to flash the ruu zip file or use the exe ruu.
Currently
Relocked
Hboot 2.10.0000
Believe I am 4.03.605.2 main version, at least that's what the exe file said.
I'm pulling my hair out just trying to any software installed. Help please!

Are you trying with the stock ROM ? If ure saving stock ROM as PH98IMG.zip, then try PH98IMG without the .zip typed in.

I am no expert to give u any suggestions but maybe if you could explain how it got bricked in the first place, someone might be able to give u a better solution mate.

[Q] Rezound - bricked or worse - looking for guidance (noob)

So while trying to update to ICS my fingers were working faster than my brain (yes, it happens) and I selected a menu option while using Clockwork and, while I'm not sure, I think the option said something like, "format .. OS...something..." before I could fully read it (and stop my finger from pressing the power button), I pressed the power button.
The phone rebooted, got to the white HTC screen and stopped - stuck on the white HTC screen. I pulled the battery.
I Held down power and up-volume and got to the bootloader menu, selected recovery and Clockwork came up.
Couldn't "Recover" because it couldn't mount the SD card.
Couldn't mount the external SD card either.
Ok - tried a factory reset - Rebooted - up came the white HTC screen where it stays until I pull the battery.
I'm new at this (probably didn't need to say that, but...).
How Do I get past this point?
Is this phone agonner?
How do I load (anything) to the phone at this point?
Thanks in advance! I appreciate it.

Try using adb commands from your computer to push a recovery to your phone and go from there
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
If it powers on, you're not bricked.
Are s-on or s-off?
Make sure you have a card reader for the following.
The best thing for you to do would probably to flash an RUU.
First, download the latest RUU.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
If you are s-on with unlocked boot loader, relock it:
Make sure there is no PH98IMG.ZIP on your sdcard. Delete if there is one.
Power off phone completely with battery pull.
Plug in phone to computer with USB.
Go to the bootloader menu with vol down + power.
Select fastboot.
On your computer, run the following fastboot command (do whatever you needed to do to use fastboot):
fastboot oem lock
After that is done, time to install the RUU.
Find the RUU you downloaded and put it on your sdcard, then rename to PH98IMG.ZIP
Put sdcard back, then power on to bootloader.
It should now scan for the PH98IMG and then ask you to install it.
Follow all the instructions to install it.
After you finish this, you will be back to the stock ROM with a locked boot loader.
If either s-off or s-on locked bootloader

Rezound still major messed up
THANK YOU for your help, I really appreciate your response. I followed your instructions and once the PH98IMG.zip file was on the SD card I loaded bootloader and it did scan for the file, but said "no file or wrong file!" Well, the file is there so I know its not "no" file. I've tried a couple of different PH98IMG files that I found on XDA but I guess the specific file wasn't the problem.
After it gives the error message it simple goes back to the bootloader and waits.
Unlocking the bootloader and then following your instructions did result in the file being seen and, what appeared to be, the installation process beginning - however when the phone reboots for the first time it just goes quiet and never comes back up. I waited for at least 20 minutes before I decided it wasn't just a long boot process.
I"m pretty sure there is NOTHING on this phone. I've verified there's nothing on the SD card besides the PH98IMG.zip file. Assuming I've completely wiped out the OS (and it is not on the phone) is the method you've outlined the right starting point?
Thanks again, and Merry Christmas

If you are S-on and have an unlocked bootloader, you will need to relock it before attempting to flash an ruu. Once re-locked, ensure that the PH98IMG is not a zip file within a zip file which is how they are usually uploaded. Attempt to unzip the files until it will not unzip anymore. That file that won't unzip needs to be the one you rename as PH98IMG and placed on the root of your SD card. Reboot to bootloader and allow it to scan. It will ask you if you wish to proceed and you will allow it. After some time it will reboot back to bootloader to flash radios and the rest of firmware. After that process and a 2nd reboot you should he back to stock, locked, and unrooted.

Also, it could be possible that your phone can't recognize the sd card so it needs to be formatted.

zip file contents?
Maybe I should ask what the contents of the .zip file should be? I did check the zip to make sure it wasn't a double-zip. There were two versions of the PH98IMG file i tried. One had the file (imagemate-3.60.exe) the other had the file(s) (boot.img and android-info.txt).
I did "relock" the bootloader prior to trying and it would not recognize the file. When it was unlocked it would see it, start the install process, then go quiet. So that at least tells us that the file is there and likely workable.
I can't seem to get past the "No image or wrong image" message. I've tried on 3 different cards (the original and two fresh cards) and I've checked to ensure the zip is not a zip within a zip.

You should download that file from Android Police. It should have a 'bunch' of files in it. I"m not familiar with imagemate-3.60.exe but boot.img is just the kernel. Rename the file that you download to PH98img, (as previously stated) put it on a good SD card and boot into bootloader. It should go.
How about telling us if you are s-on or s-off. I don't see where you've answered that question. Also, if it doesn't work, tell us what your bootloader screen says. That will give us some info to help you.
Merry Christmas....I've got to go to bed before Santa shows up.:laugh:
EDIT: I just downloaded the Android Police file and as I said, it has a lot of files in it. I'm not sure what you were playing with but i likely the cause of you problem. Get the right file, name it ph98img.zip, put on root of SD, boot into bootloader (you're locked, right) and let it do its thing. good luck.

One thing you need to know is that a PH98IMG file can be many things. It is only the name of a file that your phone looks for to use when booted into hboot. So it can be a kernel, an entire RUU (OS), a custom recovery or ROM... basically anything. It just means that item was packed into a PH98IMG file in order to run automatically off your SD card when the phone boots.
So you need to know what the PH98IMG file is that you are using or you might flash something you don't want that can possibly cause your phone to not work properly. In your examples above one is a kernel (boot.img) and I have no idea what imagemate-3.60.exe is. It sounds like you have not had the correct file.
Here is the global RUU you should run to get you back to stock with all the latest radios and firmware:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
You need to be locked to run it so if you are S-ON, which it sounds like you are (don't remember if you mentioned that before), you need to use fastboot from your pc to do that, just like you did when you unlocked it with this command:
fastboot oem lock
***If you are S-OFF you should be locked again from that process already. But if you are S-OFF then confirm with someone to be sure it's safe to run the RUU, there's something about not relocking if you are on a certain hboot or you can brick it or something...***
Then put the RUU on your SD card and reboot the phone. Let it run through the RUU a few times because apparently it needs to do it a few times to get all the system files. Afterwards, if you want to root again and flash a custom ROM you will need to unlock again and flash a custom recovery and reroot.
It Works!
Not that I'm going to give you all the credit, because everyone kinda chipped in - however you DID provide the ONLY correct link to exactly what I needed! LORDY there are a lot of bad links being passed around. THANK YOU Ms. Feralicious, I totally appreciate your help.
... Everyone else as well - very generous with your knowledge and time and I will always love you.
Merry Christmas! Have a safe new year as well!

Where did you get the PH...img file you are using? Are you sure it's an RUU?
Did you ever try resetting to factory settings within the phone? You don't need to RUU for that, check a few posts up on where to find the setting.

possibly useful info for those who have unlocked and relocked this device

I did this a while ago because i was going to try rooting, then changed my mind. Anyway, no I'll effects, until recently when, T-Mobile pushed out a software update. Tried doing the update (numerous times), but nothing happened. Called T-Mobile; no help. Forgot about it since I read it was a minor update. Anyway, since my phone had been using up batteries very fast, I decided to do a factory reset. Strangely, this did not work either. Again t-mobile ; no help. Then got the idea to unlock the boot loader again and see what happens. That worked. Was able to wipe the phone. Then with the bootloader unlocked, I again attempted to do the software update. Phone rebooted and went right into 4ext recovery and after the update failed at first, giving me a message that the ext. Sd card could not be found. I used 4ext to mount the ext SD, which was not mounted. The update successfully completed. Apparently, with the phone in relocked state, many things seem to be not possible.

Thanks for the response, but can't imagine what I could I have done wrong? All I did when trying to install the update was click the 'update now' box. phone simply rebooted to recovery and did nothing else. Navigated to 'reboot'. Phone rebooted and update was still there un-installed. Checked software version; unchanged. When trying to do system restore, tried it from security menu and also tried booting direct to recovery. Highlighted 'system restore', pushed power button. Both ways and the phone simply rebooted with everything still intact!!
P.S. Didn't know ARHD works with Amaze 4g? Would love to try it, but a little anxious about doing wire thing to get to s-off. It's my only phone. Is it risky?

Well I'm pretty sure that with the locked bootloader and stock Rom there won't be any issues I was not rooted or any of that. And I'm not S-off. I didn't mess with any of that wire crap just make sure you have 4ext recovery and have smart flash enabled in the options and you can flash all the Roms you want. Just make sure before every Rom flash you make sure the smart flash is enabled unless you configure it to stay on.

Ok well what i would do in this situation would be to just start over fresh. First download the newest ruu we have from here for tmobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644, which would be this one: RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_R2_Radio_1.14.550L. 17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_262141_signed.zip and make sure you rename it PH85IMG.zip and place that on your externel sd card. Once you do that make sure you phones boot loader is locked (i use hansoons tool kit for all this) once boot loader is locked (says relocked) then you can boot into I think its called hboot (the screen where is says locked/relocked/unlocked/) by powering phone off then pushing Vol down key and power at the same time and hold it will bring you to a screen where it will start reading the file you just put on you sd card and ask if you want to update. Vol up for yes and vol down for no select yes and it will do its thing and it will ask to press power button to reset and the will boot up to stock ICS and everything should work fine.
Thank you so much. Actually had to do it a little differently. Downloaded the ruu and renamed it. Put it in the data subfolder of all-in-one kit. Used Hasoon's to reboot to bootloader. Then flashed the ruu using Hasoon's. Same thing, I guess. Anyway, everything works now. I put the PH85IMG.zip in the root of the sdcard. any idea why rebooting to the bootloader did not find it and start the flash? Says PH85IMG.zip not found.

dntipwn - you said you didn't mess with the wire crap. Were you able to flash ARHD to your phone with s-on? Can you give me some tips?

Yes all you have do is first unlock bootloader, then you will need to flash a 4ext recovery, after that root is needed. The easiest way its to use hansoons tool. After all that our done you will need to download super wipe.zip from the arhd page and the room of choice I actually get better battery on NRG stock rom. Boot into recovery flash super wipe it will reboot then flash the rom reboot which will take about 5 to 10 mins. After it boots up I like to let it sit without touching it for 10mins reboot then set up the phone then reboot again and you should be set.

I just successfully reverted my Amaze to sufficient stock to effect the download; download was already on the device but wouldn't install. Here were my steps.
Flashed stock recovery from CWM by extracting recovery.img from firmware.zip inside the OTA update zip.Rebooted into HBOOT, entered FASTBOOT.
=> fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Attempted to apply the update from Recovery. Fail.
Initiated update from Settings | About Phone | Software updates. Update rebooted the phone...
Update complained about a mismatch in build.prop. Oops; I forgot that I'd edited it to override the "HTCLinkify" fix for Apple.
=> Edited /system/build.prop, removed ro.da1.method=enabled line, reverted ro.da1.enabled=false to true.
Rebooted.
Initiated the software update again, which it downloaded.
Started the update again, which rebooted the phone, updated without interruption, and rebooted into the new version (confirmed by popup and Settings | About phone | Software information).
=> Success.
I did not have to relock the bootloader. At this point I'd reflash recovery to CWM or TWRP again, but this was done on a phone which has a defective charging circuit, so I'm relocking the bootloader and returning it to T-Mobile.
