SGS2 keyboard in SGS3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I just got the SGS3, and I'm really missing the SGS2-keyboard.
What I'm missing is;
- The possibilty to actually add custom words to the list
- On the SGS2 i held down Q or P or something like that to get a smilies-menu
- The possibilty to put the marker in already written words, and switch alternatives within the suggestions.
Is it possible to get the old keyboard in my new SGS3?

just goto sgs2 forums and ask someone to upload the apk file, download it and install the same on your s3

You can add customs words, press "predictive text" and enter a sub-menu

WHere do you find this "predictive text"?

Mod menu button!

Hi guys!
I new to this forum section because I'm coming from Nexus S.
I want to ask if is possible that instead of the voice command when we double click to open the search app. or recent tasks.I know that we have the recent tasks by hold the menu button pushed but with the double click is a little quicker.
Maybe it answered but I did not found it yet.
Sorry could you be more clear? i didn't understand what's your problem

I think he asks if its possible to set double tap home button as task manager. He already knows long pressing works as task manager but he wants the double click do the job

Yes something like yhis. Or the double typing could be the search button. So is this possible or not?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I havent heard
I havent heard of any rom that does this. Usually all roms ive seen and flashed..(and trust me.... ive flashed almost all of them....), have taskmanager set to long press on the home button... ill search around and see what i can find.
Im saying this because when i had Nexus S I could use the search button for the recent tasks.

Check "set as default" and select the launcher you want to use from now on.

Did u follow the instructions above? If so, then all u have to do to change it to a DIFFERENT launcher is find the one that is currently being used in system settings-applications-clear default. Then u can choose again.... Try it...
i knew i could do it that way b4, but was looking for a widget or something to make it quicker, thanks anyhoo

How to show a line beneath bad spelled words like in iOS

Since I have my SGS3 a few weeks ago there's something missing and I don't know why. I'm talking about the in line spell checking.
In ICS when you misspell a word a red dotted line appears underneath that word, so you can easily see the mistake and fix it. This is also present in iOS.
Why don't we have that on our SGS3? I really need it to easily check for any mistakes when writing emails and other stuff.
Right now there is no way to see when a word is incorrectly written. I have to re-read all my text again to see if it's correct and it takes to long compared to just looking for the red dots.
It's it just me or is there a way of enabling this feature? I downloaded the ICS keyboard from the market and it doesn't have this much needed feature.
I don't understand why no one seems to find this to be a problem.

No its not. Ive gone over different keyboard settings many many times looking for it and I havent seen any option to enable this. If you know it tell me which setting it is exactly.

Anyone? There must be a way to enable this feature.

samsung keyboard, settng, predictive text, spell correction
Thanks but that's not what I mean. I still don't get any visible sign on a misspelled word. I'm not talking about spell checker.
What I want is something like iOS when you misspell a word and a red dotted line appears beneath the word. That way it's very easy to check for misspelled word on very long notes.
I think I saw this same feature on the ICS keynote. A line appears beneath the mistakes word and it gives you a list of optional words to change to.
This does not appear on my SGS3. Maybe it's because it's not stock Android. How can I get this?
Thanks.

No, no, no. It doesn't need to work like iOS. I'm saying that stock Android has this feature but I don't see it on the SGS3 and that is weird. Stock Android shows you a line beneath any word misspelled. Why not the SGS3?
There has to be a way to show it.

What? He doesn't want all of android to be like iOS just. A feature that is present in stock ICS & jb ROMs. I have it in cm10 I guess Samsung removed it. You could always flash cm9/cm10.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Use the aosp keyboard, get it from a cm or cm10 rom zip.
look in system/app folder.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I would like that feature to lol I'm a terrible speller and have to figure it out with autocorrect.
Another reason why I will have to root I suppose.
-JOSH-
Here is latinIME.apk from CM10
http://db.tt/cGyzndc9
Download it and use a root explorer to move it to system/app

Why dont you try to download the ics keyboard from the play store. It is similar to one present in stock ics and cm....it should give what you want...

I've already downloaded the ICS and JB keyboards and still that feature is not present. It's not present strangely on any keyboard: Swype, swiftkey, go keyboard, etc. It's actually really weird. It's an essential feature and it comes with stock Android. I don't know if this problem is only with Samsung or if HTC has it too.
Will moving the keyboard file to system really work? I will try it.
My last resort would be to use CM10 I guess.

There is an input selector icon in the status bar whenever the keyboard pops. If you click that you can easily change the input method.

This should be possible, just need someone with the knowledge and time to make one.
I am sure the S-pen SDK allows us to monitor when the s-pen is removed so we should be able to trigger an app to auto-switch keyboard at that point.

I would argue that double tapping to open smemo is the same amount of work.
It is amazing, however, how awesome it is to have smemo automatically open and close when you pull the pen in and out.

On screen Nav buttons

Now that we have root, does anyone know how to install the MOD we had for the SG3 where it would add on screen soft keys and make the home button ONLY wake up the phone. It would also disable the capacitive buttons....I miss this so much...absolutely hate the Samsung home button.
Thanks ahead of time!!
On-screen nav is literally one or two line changes. There's guides all over this site. Why dont you search and maybe figure it out yourself.

I would be afraid to follow a guide that wasn't listed specifically for this phone. Your response is kind of uncalled for.
Edit: This works.. I just did it. It is from the Sprint Note 2 forum... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34247225&postcount=14

seriously. please do us all a favor and get a different phone so we don't have to deal with you.
anyway. i wasn't really happy with the way this looked or worked so I went back. But if tweaked it could look / function better. It changed it so that if you hold the home button on screen and physical you get S-Voice. The on screen nav was really big also and the page indicators were covered by icons. It just looked and felt sloppy and there was no way to customize anything obviously.

Only thing I don't like is this kind of messes with the dialer DPI, and now the top of recent calls and favorites is being cut off by a big block of blue.
Edit: On Bean's new ROM, the top names are still covered, but the "blue" block is now transparent stuff just a blue border, so the names are now visible, but you can only touch the part of the name that sticks out from the bottom of the block. This is definitely more manageable though.
