Hey all,
Didn't notice if there was one of these where everyone could post screenshots of their battery usage for the new Evo. I'm thinking we should have a central location to discuss this. Attached are my recent stats and I'm wondering if this is considered good battery life or if something is up with my phone. Mods, if one of these exists, please close and post link.

Seems low I haven't really put my battery through cycles yet but I'll post when I get a chance...I'm guessing from what I've seen so far about 4-5 hours screen on time with mix of internet/games
If you don't post your screen on time shot it really doesn't matter imho...but the 3 shots most people are putting up is perfect for comparison...just my two cents.

i got some pretty good use out of mine. Watched some netflix in the morning before heading to work.
Man I wish I could get 4 hours of screen time. I'm looking slightly better than my OG evo between 2 and 3 hours. Plus I've been tweaking and monitoring. I've killed latitiude, froze a ton of stuff, CDMA only. Using better battery stats to monitor.

You have a decent of awake time when the screen is not on. You may have a wake lock. I would download better battery stats and check it out.

Edit: I've noticed over the last few months on ICS that listening to local music on head phones with screen off shows as awake time with solid blue line. Which does make sense, as the phone is not sleeping, but I dont think it reported/showed that way in gingerbread. You used to be able to just compare blue lines for determining a wakelock (other than music).
Just throwing this out there FWIW.

It actually might have something to do with all the monitoring your doing. I've found if I leave it alone and don't worry about things I easily get a whole day with all radios on 3 hours of screen time and still have about 40%. The battery life comes from the processor so letting it sleep is key.

This phone is godly, but It's been on the charger more than it hasn't and the battery drains so fast if I do anything. This seriously SUCKS... This morning it got to about 40% battery in about 3 hours. I must be super spoiled from my 3500mAh battery lasting over a day with heavy use on my OG EVO. i just wish there was something we could do. What a shame.

If you were using your phone the majority of those 3 hours that would actually be great battery life.

I agree. But when I noticed that I was having bad battery life, I had to find out what the cause was. Sometimes it is a rogue app or a system component gone bonkers. Best to try and root it out and then go back to the non-monitoring.

That day I took those pics I was at work. So the wake time without the screen on was me playing podcasts with the screen off. No downloading them. But I seem to have the same result with or without the podcasts.
But I think I did find a major culprit today. One of the stocks widgets I was using seemed to be draining the battery. I uninstalled it and my battery stats seem better.
Not bad.

I have terrible battery life....
This is also with an hour of voice calls.
And my signal isn't too great for most of the charge.
If you are getting poor battery life, and have disabled any apps, you may want to consider reenabling them to see if that helps. It seems counter intuitive, but I noticed a significant drop in battery life after disabling certain pre installed apps.

I'm satisfied with the extended battery. It impresses me daily and I never have to worry about 15000 tasker rules to try and save battery. I just leave everything on all the time.
I never used the stock battery.
There is plenty of conflicting information about battery stats, but I've found bump charging and clearing battery stats to be helpful on other phones, even if that's just a perception thing.

I have crappy battery life on stock with minimal use, bought the extended battery and it was much better. Only issue.. i bought an otterbox defender lol.. so had to go back to stock so just frequent recharging.
I think the answer is because the battery just sucks. Its way undersized for this phone. It's hard to get a real handle on it though because everyone thinks of their usage has normal or heavy, so the accounts you read are tottaly irrelevant to how you use it.
I normally am screen on and 3G for 45-60 each morning for some news and slacking before getting to work. That will eat half my battery, which is completely unacceptable IMO. On a weekend when I pick it up a couple times an hour for a this or that, I still only get like 10-12 hours.
Our only hope is that the next phone that takes the place of the rezound has a higher capacity battery that will work for us like the deal with the thunderbolt. Otherwise, ill continue to haul around adapters and my New Trent battery whenever I'm going to be away from home for more than a few hours.
Incredible. And I hates extended battery unless they low profile like the g nex one! Anyway. Gonna try wipe battery in cwm ...thanks

Use Amon ra or one of the utilities to wipe battery stats from the market or even better delete it yourself manually.

This. There is really no reason to have the screen brightness set to over 20% When I was turning LTE off I would normally get around 20 hours on CleanROM. That's with 2 hours of screen on time and moderate use throughout the day. Been leaving LTE on and getting 14 to 16.

maybe in a pitch black room set the brightness down that low.

Hopefully, htc will take a page from moto and make phones with 3000mah+ nonremovable batteries. I would be ok with that.

Run my screen that low constantly unless I'm in the bright sun. Auto is a battery killer. Have no desire to use an extended battery. If they started using fixed batteries they would be driving away a lot of customers. Motorola is the last manufacturer anyone needs to emulate!

really? I am intrigued by the razr maxx simply because of the 3300mah battery. Not to mention, everyone raves about the new software moto phones have that allow you to set profiles.
I just don't like the pentile screens.
And I don't think a 3300mah battery would drive away many people. That battery would last 99% of the smartphone users over 24 hours.
The 3300 mah sounds great. The fact of not being removable is a modder's nightmare. Moto's encrypted bootloaders and god awful motoblur are major turn offs. Not to mention that all their handsets since the DX have a terrible feel.
The extended battery is nice, but I only use it when I know I'll need it because it destroys the contours of the device and makes it even more of a brick than it already is.

When I first got the phone (on release day) I was pulling 25 hours with the stock battery. I'd have the brightness on auto and use wifi whenever possible. While I was sleeping I would put it in airplane mode so I could use it as an alarm clock and not have anything else wake me up.

That made me laugh, that's like having a gorgeous car but never taking it out of the garage. You have a beautiful screen but at a brightness that low you can't appreciate it. With the extended battery I leave mine at full brightness or 75%, with the standard battery I keep it 60% or less.

Do not use Hyperion, QCell or any other cheap ebay/amazon batteries. They are only about 1700mah at best and will kill your phone under moderate use in about 60 to 90 minutes. Maybe less.
I'm on stock GB rooted with all bloat frozen via TB and I can get through a whole day of use on one Samsung OEM batt with light to med usage.

This is no where near the average!
And you seriously must not use your phone, like at all
17 hours at 73% is a bit extreme, but so is 2% per minute drain.
I think I can represent a fairly average user. I usually check email, weather and a little reddit during my morning routine. BT is always on and connects to my car while I drive to work for about 30 minutes. I average about 2 or 3 long phone calls a day on my phone. Some text messaging throughout the day and some short internet sessions on my phone while at work. Plus a few minutes here or there for Draw Something. I stream Google Music every day on my way home for about 30 minutes. Once at home my usage varies depending on what I do for the evening. But so far I usually find I have about 50% battery life when going to bed. I actually made it through Friday and Saturday on a single charge.
So I would say that this phone has above average battery life for an android device. It isn't stellar, but it isn't bad either. My Infuse could eek out about the same life with less use. My N1 never made it even close to this length. My buddy's MyTouch 4g can't usually make it a full 24 hours.

Considering the screen size, the battery isn't actually that big. It sounds enormous due to other phones with almost a thousand less mAH, but I just bought a bunch of extra batteries. The removable battery feature is the biggest reason I switched to Android.
LTE is a HUGE battery killer. I turned off wireless since LTE is SOOOOOO much faster than any wireless connection I'm on. I'd be lucky if I could get through a workday without it being below 50% by the end of a work day and completely dead by 7pm.
Turn on wireless and it's now almost 3pm and still have 78% left.
Lets face one fact everyone is different. .everyone claims this and that and regardless of what carrier or what device people will.never see the batt life they would really.like to see.Say like 50% after 3 days heavy usage that would be a thing we.may see in.smartphones in a few years. Android o.s will always be battery harsh. Its a huge topic.
Another point.on all the claims of Great and terrible batt life has to do with the fact. .people just dont truly get how others may use there devices so heavily..streaming vid...music...downloads...mail sync...Some maybe few truly use there phones 24 hrs non stop. There probably will never be a batt drain solution for those people. So telling one person that batt is fine with all this moderate usage coming from a person who uses there data more like "lightly" rather than heavy, doesnt help a person who is a heavy heavy data user.Neither sides will ever come to an agreement.

Wow that is awesome! I'm getting home with a full days use at around 50-60%- It seems to be better than my captivate was on life that's for sure.
I have had mine for two weeks- On side note? hehehe Does cycling a battery really prove to get better life as time goes by or is it a old school story about batteries use to have memory etc... and now they don't?
Modern batteries don't have memory but their battery meters can become decalibrated which can be fixed with a full change cycle. Nonetheless, I don't recommend doing that too often (I only do it like once a year) since that's bad for the battery.

The battery life is fantastic but my old phone was a generation older then your Nexus. With my Epic 4G if I got 1.5hrs of screen on time (15-30% brightness and 1-2% no signal) I would be on the low battery warning. If I used Nav it would drain the battery 1% a minute. On the Evo I can have the screen cranked up to 50% or higher, get 2.5 hours of screen on time, music streaming and navigation going and get home at the end of the day with 40% left. :victory:

I'm not a fan of sense by any strech of the imagination... but im sure the devs can do something about that to where I wouldn't have to deal with that for too long.
I usually get a full day out of this device no matter what. I've only really tried two roms, mean and viper. Viper for me, had a more steady decrease rate where I could get 5-7 hours of screen on time during a day easily. I've not heavily used it since I've been on mean rom, although I usually hit 50% after 45-60 minutes of screen on time with mean.(Albeit this is over a full regular day's usage where my phone battery time would be between 9-11 hours)
Since I figure a follow up question will be the performance between the two, they perform about the same. The difference in performance for day to day usage is minimal at best. Either way both roms get a full day for my current usage.(Full day being 13-18 hours)
I think that it is pretty unanimous that the EVO has far superior battery life. Every review and person I've talked to say that.

I would have to say the evo 4g lte and galaxy s 3 (s4soc) has amazing battery life.I average 16-20 hours medium use!(facebook, instagram, browsing, calls, text, youtube) a friend of mine has the vz galaxy nexus, within the first week he had to buy the 3800ah? Siedo. His stock battery would die in 6-10 hours medium use. He also lost NFC during the battery swap.
This device even outlast my evo 3d with the 3000mah battery! At first I wondered why they permanently shoved a 2000mah battery inside, but honestly with efficient hardware the battery life was/is greater then I expected.
I'm on my phone all the time. Phone calls, texting, you tube videos, email, Facebook, etc. My screen is usually at 25%. I average about a 10% drop an hour during heavy use periods, with about 14 to 16 hours a day without having to charge.

Just had to post this factoid. I've had the DNA for about 2 weeks and i honestly can't believe the battery life. It is just getting sick battery life. I've had alot of smartphones over the years, but this one is by far the best in battery life. My last phone, droid razr, was on juice defender and barely made it through a day without charging and minimal use.
An example day like yesterday is typical:
unplugged at 7am fully charged. Bluetooth streaming music for an hour ride to work, 4 hours of music streaming during work along with 30 min of gaming (lunch). Streaming music all the way back home - 74% At home, 1 hour of tasker, 30 mins of various email and facebook. Result - 59%. No charging overnight, on it's 7am alarm, it is at 53%.
It will go 2 full days of use without charging. How did they do that? The battery is barely bigger than my dual core RAZR on a much smaller more efficient 4'3" screen. I've always had SuperAmoled phones like the galaxy S3, RAZR, etc.. I thought superamoled was more efficient.
I saw the XDA review a couple days ago and another online review a month ago. In both cases, the reviewers were also a bit perplexed about the great battery life. It wasn't just good, it was unusually GREAT.
That's good to hear.. mind to post some screen shots? Particularly the screen on time.
If I didn't live in a signal black hole I would easily get 2 days out of mine...

What's a good app to show this breakdown?
I agree 100% Compared to my thunderbolt (had it until a few weeks back, was almost 2 years old) which could not really make it through the entire day with regular usage, the DNA usually ends up at around 50% (at least from looking at the battery symbol, I've not bothered to look at the actual percent) with regular usage. I live a few miles away from a tower, so not sure if that affects battery life significantly, definitely works well though. Combined with the wireless charging setup (was not planning on getting it initially, but had ended up selling back the thunderbolt + had some sort of work discount, so it had ended up only being around $11) battery life is the least of my concerns at the moment
I feel the same way. I had a TB with rezound battery and SoaB 1.4 and it drained so fast. My DNA seems to last forever. It's such a relief to not have to have a charger around if I'm going to be gone for more than 6 hours.

Any thoughts as to why it gets so amazing battery life? On paper a quad core 5" screen with just a 2020mh battery should barely make it through the day. The nexus 4 surely doesn't get this life on a similar chip with smaller screen (i have one).

Any thoughts as to why it gets so amazing battery life? On paper a quad core 5" screen with just a 2020mh battery should barely make it through the day. The nexus 4 surely doesn't get this life on a similar chip with smaller screen (i have one).

The screen is super efficient, the processor is super efficient, and sense is pretty good with standby.

I concur. I charge my DNA every other day. I've only had the battery completely drain once before getting it to a charger.

Same here with the battery. I have been really impressed by the battery. Before I got the phone all I heard was bad about it.

I totally agree with the above comments. I was scared by the prerelease estimates of the battery. Using it daily has proven the opposite. Some times I look at my phone at the end of the day and worry about the battery not fully cycling. There is to much charge left to start charging. Hopefully new batteries don't have that issue. In addition these awesome developers truly maximize the capabilities of this device. And they never seem to quit.

So what are you guys doing to get the battery to last so long? I think I have pretty good battery maintenance, and I get almost one day out of it with minimal use.
I did just get the device a couple days ago so maybe the battery hasn't been conditioned yet?

What's your screen on time like. Because one person's definition of minimal may not be the same as another person's definition of it.

I know my screen on time is really low. I teach so really do not use my phone more than 1 hour of screen on time between 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Image below:

However after that my usage really picks up. My phone still lasts until 9:00-10:00 without fail. Thanks to the amazing development group dedicating so much effort into this phone I have seen improvements in charge speed. I will post my before bed power screen tonight for comparison of usage and full day performance assessment.

Your app usage seems really high.

Check battery usage at the end of the day and disable any apps running services you're not using. Mine was using Maps a lot for some reason so I disabled it in Titanium. There were a few other apps with notifications that I turned off as well and now I'm still at around 70% around 11PM after being off the charger since 8AM with moderate usage.
Just installed GSAM yesterday.
Ran the phone a little harder than normal, I use juice defender, but set it to FORCE ENABLE data, which offsets it's use. To give an example, typically on Juice defender on idle, it uses about 1% an hour. So overnight, i would expect less than 8% drop, but these last few days, it was more like 15%.
Had the phone on for 34 hours on battery and it still at 24% battery. (just plugged it in to get the screenshots).
Was reading online what I should do about my battery life and how to improve it. I usually get about 12 hours with 2 hours of screen time. This app has improved my batteries life too 14 hours with 3.5 screen time. Not much but better here check it out

Never heard of an app that gives better battery life. Seems fishy to me.

I'm trying it and it's still on learning mode. Im sure it helps a little bit...but not dramatically. Again...it's worth a try.

There are quite a few good ones out there. I like juice defender and greenify. I don't really use them now though. The htc one battery does a good job without slowing down the phone.
I never use battery apps ever, but coming to a phone that gets about an hour and a half less screen time, I tried this out for about a week and a half. It did nothing..... I mean literally nothing. Averaged the exact same everything. The only thing that changed was I had an icon in the notification bar. Its not even worth the wait while it's learning..... Apparently to do nothing.
I think this apps actual purpose is to advertise for their processors.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
No, I would just wait. Your can remove the icon from the bar. You should look before you an post (not trying to start a war) give it some time. I have gained a few hours, or maybe my phone is just working better.
The point is to save battery life with losing fluidity

BatteryGuru does work a little bit. I used it on my atrix. However what this guy just said.
Turn on power saver and only check underclock CPU and lower screen brightness (HTC one screen is too bright) and you're golden. Haven't noticed a difference in performance from the lower cpu speeds at all. Quad core ftw I guess.

Its funny how people always use screen time as a way to judge battey life. Theres more to it than that. Gaming, streaming and watching movies will definitely drain the battery quicker. Im not a power user and was very skeptical about the battery on the HTC One when I purchased it. So far, my battery lasted me throughout the day most days. Its true however that HTC is known to have smaller batteries.

Yeah. This is a small battery, I tried guru on the one and it didn't seem to make any change at all, if you out everything into super power save mode it works but then nothing ever updates. Kinda ruined my experience.
Underclocking cpu and lowering screen brightness through power saver is by far the easiest and best way for saving b life without ruining user experience (IMHO)
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I didn't think id like it but I turned power saver on with justlower screen brightness and lower cpu power and I have to say this thing still flies.... No lag at all and even the lowered screen brightness is still to bright imo so I leave it on all the time helps a lot. It takes the battery and phone about a week to break in and learn percentages anyway so don't be discouraged about batt life on the first couple days. Plus we use new devices more which makes a difference. I had a couple other things not perfect at first on my phone like agps not working but after a few charges and reboots it's working great better than my one s with any rom I've ever used.

I did look.... I don't give a crap if you can turn it off. This app has been around for a while.... I tried one my OneX just for a haha when it came onto the market..... It did nothing on that phone either. If you are gaining power from this app.... Its because the app is doing what I have been doing manually since using Android phones. These battery apps are built for lazy people who refuse to remember to turn crap off they ain't using.

Screen on time is one of the best ways to judge battery life. If you can get an hour of talk time, texting like mad and get 4 1/2 hours of screen time....video, reading, etc...... That's a bad ass battery.
Phone that's been on for 35 hours with 1 hour of screen time is quite simply a phone that is not used much.

I don't think you understood what I meant. I meant to say comparing screen times on a device that played intensive gaming vs the screen time on a device that was used to browse the web and text. Both screens are on but the one playing game is likely to chew up battery faster due to the cpu running more aggressive. So basically all these screen times that people post aren't really helping unless they're accurately stating what was it used for. Wifi vs 4G LTE plays a factor also. All in all, it's likely everyone uses their phones for different things so battery life will be judge differently.

I actually used this app when I had the Nexus, and I HATE battery saver apps like Bullsh.. I mean Juice Defender. The fact that Qualcomm is putting it out for their own chips tells me it's worth a shot.

I understand where your coming from, and you're not wrong. My only point is that phones that can sustain, what I would consider excessive screen on, would naturally stand up better to whatever you throw at it.
Having said that, my OneX would get 5 and a half hours screen on with texting, reading, XDA app all day, YouTube, etc. Sure I could easily kill the battery playing crazy graphics games in 2 and a half hours..... Most phones that are only averaging 3-4 hours of screen time are not going to be able to get 2 1/2 hours of play time doing anything else. My OneX battery kills this One. I wouldn't necessarily say I am a power user.... But I have been known to put a beating on mine pretty regularly.
