So I bought a Brand New Nook Tablet 8GB model from ebay and it was labeled as a Nook Color, and since there was only one picture of the box i didnt pay much attention to it, and since it's a tablet i paid $160 for i feel like i got a great deal on it
I was hoping to get a Nook Color and install CM7 on the internal memory, but since i have a 8GB Nook Tablet I'm finding that i cant really do anything with it, what im planning on doing is selling this one on ebay, getting my money back and using that to buy a Nook Color
So here's where you guys come in, should I sell this one and get a Nook Color?
Or should I sell this one and get a Nook Tablet 16GB?
Or should i just not even sell it?
keep it

I would have to say keep it. The nook tablet development has come a long way and you are at LEAST able to boot to the SD version of CM7. There is a significant performance difference between the NC and NT (My Wife has NC with CM9 and I am running the 16 GB Tablet with CM9). If you read through the threads you'll find instructions on how to get CM7/9 installed internally on the 8 GB version. For $160 the NT is a pretty good deal considering it's worth ~$200.
Dumb question - how can i tell if I have the 8gb or 16gb? I bought it back in Nov. and am pretty sure it's the 16gb....
If you bought in November, you have the 16gb.
The 8GB was launched in late February.

I am interested in tablet for watching videos at home and reading pdfs and ebooks and suchm, as well as playing games.

i had the gtablet, but sold it. Now with the Android market not showing the G tab on the website, I am sure glad that I sold the G tablet. Get the tablet that has paid the license to Google and has the real market (imho), in otherwords not the Gtablet.

Maybe....for now. But it appears the GTab is being fazed out of Google Market.

You'd still be able to access the market via the app on the Gtablet itself. you just wouldn't be able to remotely install apps onto your tablet via the market website on a computer.
I use a GTablet (with FlashBack 10.0) I access the Market several times a day. I am able to download new apps, update older apps. No-- my device is not listed, but nevertheless I am able to use the Market.
I had been using an older version of the Market App, and with that I could not get new apps. I could update older apps just fine, but it would NOT download a new app: NO DEVICE. With the new Market App, I have no problems.

I sold mine a while back also. I would put that $250.00 towards something that might have a chance at some ICS love.
The Gtab's screen is great for video, but an IPS screen on a higher end tablet is a must for extended ebook reading. Also the market issue is very minor in my opinion.
I picked mine up less than a week ago, put FB 10.0 on it and I am already selling it and moving to a Transformer or Iconia. The display has really bad viewing angles, other than that it isn't too shabby.

I saw that today as well. (well my wife did). Still only $100 off a 16GB version, I told her not that great of a deal.
To the OP, my advise is not spend one dime with Viewsonic. They abandoned this product 3 months after it's release. Viewsonic has been nothing short of horrible regarding the GTab and it's customers that spent the $300-$400 last winter. I have a perfect one for $200 if you really want one, $225 with dock. It is rooted and running TNT lite 4.4.

HP Touchpad with Android? I didn't know that could be done. I know they were selling for $99 when they went belly-up. I would say go for it. Shipping would only be about $25 if you really want the GTab. I am also selling my Asus TF101 32GB getting ready for the TF201 32GB but that will be twice as much with keyboard dock.

Yup Cyanogen got CM7 running on it
Decisions, decisions..
Don't take it. Bunch of people complaints about HP touchpad with android on it.I pay my viewsonic $250 (4 days ago) and my friend pay $150 for his HP touchpad - I still like my deal and product more (didn't like stock tom). I can access market using Vegan rom and I can even backup apps on my phone and transfer them to g-tab.

I all you want is a decent 10" tablet running Gingerbread or Honeycomb at a low cost then gtab is one to consider. If you want ICS then you will have to get the lastest tablet (not yet available) with a killer cpu and lots of ram.
So your choices are
1. Low price 10" or 7" (nook color II or Amazon Fire)
2. Medium price 10" like a Acer Iconia, Toshiba or Asus Transformer
3. High price 10" currently being developed for the ICS (New tranformer quadcore etc)
Good luck and have fun.
Woot.com has the Motorola Xoom 32Gig Wifi for $329 today....
And Motorola has stated that the Xoom will get ICS early 2012.
Advantages over Gtablet..
32gig vs. 16gig storage
1280x800 vs. 1024x600 resolution
1 gig vs. 512 meg ram
GPS, Barometer, front and rear cameras
Better viewing angles
Official Google support/Motorola support
Android OS 3.2.1 with stated upgrade to Android OS 4.0
FYI...I have two Gtablets and an Xoom. I'd take the Xoom every day over the Gtablet.

I bought a Gtab from a seller in the US. shipping was about $23 BUT beware as the buyer in Canada will get hit with an extra $70 in duty fees for "importing" the tablet.
Apparently B&N is launching a new "Nook Tablet". It sounds like it's similar hardware to our NC's and somewhere between a stock NC and CM7...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/03/bandn-launching-nook-tablet-for-249-on-november-16th-and-weve-g/
There is also a price-drop on the regular NC to $199 and a couple new features...

Gotta love the Nook best android tablet for the cheapest price . I'll be thinking of selling my NC to get the new tablet...maybe xD
The new nook table is a mini hp touchpad, same specs in processor and memory, I really hope the screen gets upgraded to a more responsive, from what I read seems to be the same screen as Nook Color.
Not really enough to compel me to upgrade. I'm fine with my current device.

Almost (camera and mic), but you can get new HP Touchpads for $225 on eBay and soon will be able to get 32GB TPs for $279 from TigerDirect. Don't get me wrong... I think B&N will do well with the Nook Tablet and I love my NC with CM7 but neither can compare to my HP Touchpad dual boot webOS/CM7.

Hi guys i am looking to get a tablet for my wife for the holidays. its almost black Friday and there are so many on sale out there. My local shopko has the Coby MID7015 on sale for $99. I did some research and it looks like after some root work i could hav netflix and android maket working on this just fine. Is this my best bet for under 100? any one had/have one of these? any info would be great.
I was android tablet shopping about a month ago and I looked at a lot of different ones. Budget and premium were considered but it boiled down, for me, which one was going to be best supported now and in the future, along with build quality.
The nook color is what I went with and I got mine the weekend before the price drop (got my adjustment).
It is double what you want to spend but you can use the stock ROM, install Cyanogenmod, MIUI or even Ubuntu and these are easier to install than a desktop OS.
The nook tablet is the same form factor as the nook color so there is and will be lots of cases for it which is nice. And the caribiner lets you personalize your nook with charms or tassels or whatever.
Not knowing you or your wife I will add the nook has nice branding behind it and is easily understood by other people what the device is.

^^ BUMP ^^
So I thought I would resurrect this thread from the depths and put the question out there again.
Which is the best Android tablet to purchase at this time?
I've had my eyes on a refurbed Motorola Xoom from Newegg. Even though it's older it still seems to be a solid performer.
The Asus Transformer line has caught my eye. Love the idea of begin able to turn it into a netbook.
Suggestions from the community?
New to this forum so excuse me for relying on the awesome XDA community but is this worth $240? Brand new 32gb (wifi only of course), mint condition with case, hp keyboard, all cables, etc.
If so, I need to make a commitment in the next few hours, your input is appreciated!
Very tempted to purchase and go dual-boot with CM7. Just rooted my buddies TouchPad and kind of digging it. I figure I can sell my iPad2 and recoup the expenses.
Considering they are going for around that much or more on eBay, I think that would be a good deal.
Didn't even think to check ebay honestly, I had ran a quick craigslist run but nothing beyond that. Thanks for the tip.
32 or 16 gb?
With newer stuff coming out this year like a tegra 3 tablet that only costs 250, I guess that the magic price point of the touchpad has to be about 200 for the 32GB model for it to be worth it.

32GB, updated the initial post. Yeah, I was thinking $240 was only questionable because I was getting case + HP keyboard with the deal. I could arguably sell my ipad2 for $4-500 pretty easily and get my money back and as much as I liked my pad, I could find ways to love an Android tablet instead. Plus it seemed the dev for this thing has moved so quickly, it seemed to be a safe bet for the cost.
Ya very good deal I got mine for 280 with 16 gb and nothing else so you should buy better than most tablets around that price even the ones that cost more
that's a very good deal, especially considering that you're getting the case and keyboard.
Good deal, buy, install ICS and welcome to the bunch!

I'm looking for a cheap Android Tablet and I know there are mods for both the Nook Color and Tablet, however the Tablet specifications are higher based on my searches.
My question is twofold: Is there *that* much of a performance difference between the Tablet/Color and: Which one is more customizeable (In the form of Root/Recovery/ROM development, etc.) and (ok twofold and a half!): Which would you recommend on a budget?
Thanks!
I apologize in advance if this question has been asked-I did not see it during my searches through the forums.
Performance on the 16GB Nook tablet is noticeably better than the Nook Color. I'm not sure about the 8GB, 512mb ram Nook tablet, but I'd imagine it has better performance, but a bit more limitation. With that said, development on the Nook Color far exceeds that of the Nook Tablet; its been out longer and wasn't anywhere near as heavily locked down as the Nook Tablet, which has hindered a lot of development of the Nook Tablet.
Nevertheless, despite limited developers on the Nook Tablet, the development is solid. CM7 is very stable. CM9 is also very stable, with the exception of hardware acceleration (no Netflix, not sure about HD youtube).
I'd say if you go Nook Tablet, go the full distance and get the 16GB. Or if you can wait, wait for the rumored Google Nexus Tablet that is supposed to be 7" and around $200.
it really depends on your expectations.. on a tight budget a refurb nook color for 99 is your best bet.. but i think youll have regrets so i really suggest saving up 300 get the 16gb at best buy with the geek squad warranty.
If I were to buy a tablet today..not back in nov. when I bought my NT, I would probably go with this..
http://www.frys.com/product/7019281?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Galaxy tab 2 7" running ICS. It has everything we are trying to get, plus it already running 4.0.3. at the $249 price point with expandable memory it is a
pretty nice device. I thought it was very smooth and responsive and I wouldn't have to hack it to get what I wanted. It has been fun to learn the rooting process and messing around, but in the end I wish that I would have waited if I knew this was going to be on the market so soon. I am sure it is lacking some things, but it was hard to see just by the few minutes I messed with it. Good luck deciding. One other thing for me is that I don't use BN content so the Galaxy tab at the same price is very interesting.
I worked at B&N and I can tell you by experience I would not recommend the Nook Color to anyone, and I told this to my managers- I despised it.
When Nook Tablet came out, I changed my opinion on it.
Moral of the story is, stock wise- nook tablet performs substantially better than the Nook color.
However, I cannot tell you how CM7 works on the NC.
I had a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 and I took it back. Most everything about it was fine except this: There was no option to move apps to the sd card. I tried two transfer apps from Google Play and neither of them worked. The tablet is supposed to have 8GB of storage, but after you subtract the OS and Samsung's additions, there is only a little over 4GB left.
A comment on the internet said that this transfer problem was a "feature" of ICS. If anyone knows if this is true, or if there is a way around it, I would certainly like to know.

...Interesting-I hadn't heard about the Google Nexus Tablet. I'm ultimately trying to find a tablet to play with that has decent performance under $200....(Ideally under $150, but that may not be realistic)....
...Maybe that'll make B & N push down the price of the Nook Tablet
Overstock. Com has the Nook Colors (refirbished) for $135, and the Tablet 16 Gb (also refurb) for $199. I'll got a refurb Tablet from them and it looks and works fine.
And yes, the Tablet 16 Gb is noticeably faster than the Color; both running CM7.

ya, I thought I saw some NC on Ebay for less than that (Like $99, and I thought that was high, but I don't admittedly know the value in relation to this price)
Go with the NT. There's one being sent to an Elite Recognized Developer who works on the binary level as we speak, so it's only a matter of time before everything gets unlocked.
