i have samsung mhl cable i think it is orginal it looks original when i connect phone to fullhd lcd tv phones screen appears to the tv but a little cutted from up and down and works normal you can see pictures menus or play angry birds but when i want to play some videos (i recorded or not) in stock player movies are on the phones screen but not shown on the tv also phone shows "hdmi cable connected"
but no video on tv btw sound coming from tv is very good.
i installed mxplayer and played movies in the software decoding (fast or normal)
video played on the tv . not good as hardware decoding but this is something at least. is this normal i googled and searched but too few people lived this problem and i didnt find any solution. why my stock player dont work on hdmi out ???
software decoding is terrible at hd or full hd movies so it is meaningless.

HDMI out for video, lag?

Hey,
i just got my MHL cable today and tested some of my 720p vids (~5Mbit highprofile) and i think that on my tv it doenst play as smooth as on the s2 itself.
Is it possible that the hdmi output is somehow slow or lagging ? Has someone
tested mhl yet?
regards
I have the same problem with every video file, no mater the video quality. What cable do you have? Samsung genuine?
firstly which firmware you have. secondary did you test other non-stock players?
for me is working with geniue and non-geniue (have two MHL cables) cables with no video lag...
in which format is movie?

I have genuine samsung one and it works perfectly.
I am watching 1080p video files with x264 codec and also experience lag, not a huge lag but the kind of lag that once you know its there makes you notice it (it skips a frame every now and then)
I have tried several players, but it seems the HDMI output completely ignores the display that the 3rd party players provide (mxvideo, dice video), and instead gives you the same playback video that you get from playing the video from within the gallery.
I.e. the display on the phone is not the same as on the TV - subtitles are not displayed, image size is always with borders, color settings are not respected.
I have an original Samsung MHL adapter, but not one specifically designed for the galaxy s2 (I just went to a local store and bought one).
Has had someone success with 1080p Movies (I'm referring to ~6-10gb full 1080p rips, split in 4gb chunks)? - They play back without a hickup on the phone, just not on the tv.
Thanks!
EDIT: I'm on stock 2.3.4 gingerbread firmware

Motorola Webtop and codecs

I recently bought a HD Multimedia Dock in hope to see movies on my phone connected to the tv instead of my computer. Well, of course it wouldn't work so great as I thought it would. Most of the movies and series can't be processed.. well the Movie Player app which came with the Atrix can't handle it either. MoboPlayer have been working, after I've "Soft Decoded" the file. Is there any codecs they will provide us with later? Because this wasn't what I was looking forward to. Also its not totally fullscreen, all the menus are visible around the screen when I'm using MoboPlayer.
I recently push several videos on 720p and 1080p
First I can't play with original player
soo, I installed mobo player, vitaplayer and MX VideoPlayer
All players work....but omg...why?! 15fps?!
really 720p in 15fps?! I don't try the 1080p because obvious always need more processor for decoding
soo, it is caused by software or hardware?!

Embedded Subtitles via HDMI output

I wish the prime would show embedded subtitles on the TV when playing via HDMI. Currently the A/V goes out HDMI but the subtitles still display on the tablet. I emailed the developer of the Dice video player and he said this is device dependent and would need to be fixed by the device manufacturer.
Hey Asus,
Fix the subtitle overlay issue so embedded subtitles are displayed via HDMI.
I wish this first day i bought ATP. I spent 30$ on Hdmi cable that now is useless to me. Only way is software decoding in player's settings, but when playing mkv more than 5gb all is very very bad. The best player than can show subs via Hdmi in software decoding mode is MXPlayer. I manage to play 720p mkv with subtitles and all was smooth.
Someone here said that we want much from a tablet, and if you wish a home HD player buy one like popcorn but that is another 300 bucks

Hi!
Same here... I got my HDMI cable yesterday, and had to realize, that it's useless for me. I watch everything with subtitles, and with H/W Decoding it's simply a no-go.
Unfortunately, this is not an ASUS problem, but it has to do with the HDMI Mirroring implementation of ICS (some people are reporting, that there was no such problem with HoneyComb?).
I really do hope, that Google fixes this issue very soon (hopefully in JellyBean).
I tried out many-many videos, and the conclusion is, that most files play smooth with a max. resolution of 720p in software rendering mode, but I've had some .mkv files (SD, not HD!) with embedded subtitles which simply stopped after about 30-40min. (MX Player) and I had to restart the movie (fortunately I could seek, so I didn't have to watch it from the beginning).
My conclusion is, that 1080p simply won't work, it's just too much for software decoding to play & downsample it to 720p for the output.
PLEASE GOOGLE FIX THIS!

exactly...made my dream to play movies on my HD tv via Prime impossible.. would love this to be fixed in the near future. maybe someone who tried a jelly bean tablet with hdmi could tell us if it works there.

Galaxy S3 and HDTV adapter.

I recently bought the HDTV Adapter for my S3 and so far it served its purpose except for one thing, video playback (.MKV to be exact) soft subs. They do not show on my big screen for some reason as if it was splitting my phone and giving it a second monitor but not showing exactly what's on my phone's screen. Any way to make it so my soft subs display on my big screen through the HDTV Adapter?
I don't know which program you're using, but I can tell you from my experience with MX Player that if you use the software decoder, the subtitles will appear on your external screen.
If you're using BS Player, go to Preferences -> Decoding mode and choose Hardware Decoding Mode (system). For me, using this or the software decoder worked perfectly.
It's just a matter of fiddling with the settings.
Hope I could help.
Cheers

I tried and actually worked with MX Player but terrible video instability and lag issues followed with both 1080p and 720p videos, will have to keep looking.
This is a known bug. please vote to get it fixed.
I got the same issue across all players (bsplayer, mobo,mx, vlc, etc. you name it) on an Asus TF700T/ICS.
As someone who prefers to watch their HD-high-bitrate-movies in Originalton, meaning original soundtrack and not their own language,
on an external screen (beamer,TV) hardware-decoding and subtitles are often mandatory.

[Q] Unable to watch subtitles on TV (mhl-hdmi adapter)

hey all,
im trying to connect my sgs3 to my tv and watch a movie.
when i connect it to the TV, the movie is playing with subs on galaxy screen, but no subtitles shows up on TV.
tryed ALOT of different movie players with no luck....
after some googling i found that watching in software acceleration solves it, but it makes the movie very laggy and unwatchable.
the only thing that seems to be working is the stock player,
but since the subs im running are RTL (right to left) language,
stock player running perfectly on galaxy screen, but on TV the subs are shown REVERSED... :crying:
my question is:
is there any way to watch a movie with hardware acceleration with subtitles on android?
and if not, how can i fix stock player to work with RTL subs over HDMI?
does BSplayer PRO works?
Nope...
Someone help please
