Don't flash this as you already have one from ur ICS ROM! I just did not see any Stock Kernel that is the reason why i made a thread!
Haven't seen a stock ICS 4.0.3 kernel in development section so i m just dropping stock kernel in case some one needs it.
It meant we'll have mod kernel soon? Better battery faster ... everything.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Noteā¢ - please forgive any typos
ummm... what?! Is this i717 specific, or just the AOSP 4.0.3 kernel? How did we get this for the i717 without source? Where is it from? So many questions!!!11 lol
If this is for real, someone please throw a bucket of ice water (and/or trout) on Da_G...
I have tried to use this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20806471&postcount=1 to inject init.d support into the stock kernel but cannot tell if it worked. It worked on the stock ICS kernel for the Asus Transformer according to this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23005237&postcount=104
Anyone else more familiar with init.d care to try it? It did give me an init.d folder, and the command prompt on PC seemed like it was successful but I can't tell from the file it placed in init.d after first boot if it was successful or not. I tried putting a supercharger script in the init.d folder but it doesn't seem to be working.
edit: Also at the risk of sounding dumb I don't know what set permission as 755 is. I tried to set the permissions of the folder to match the other folders in the directory.
I don't understand why are guys so happy about this ?
This kernel (boot.img) is already in ICS ROMs,
you can just unzip one of those ROMs or the leak and there you have it !
They need kernel SOURCE to do overclock etc.

I was assuming this was source... which, as my previous post indicates, wouldn't make sense.
Otherwise, you're right, this isn't anything special. Nice to have separately? Sure, I guess...
so what is a kernal is this a ics leak, im a nubie and pretty stupid.
thanks
Guys, this is STOCK ICS 4.0.3 Kernel. In other words, the kernel that was provided with the leak. It's unmodified.

yes we know this.......which is not that useful for the dev....as they need the source code for the kernel.....without the source code....we can't OC/undervolt and do all the lovely things that we need...
I've been wanting a stock ICS version as there have been a few bugs that I can't get away from with the two mods I've tried... Maybe it's ICS, maybe it's me, but now I can see how the original runs. Thanks!

You do know this is just the kernel right? If you flash only this after a full wipe, you're not going to have a booting Android phone.
You sure? I would think it would be more like flashing it to what is already in it, unless, this is not for the i717.

I think he means if you flash it after a "full" wipe, meaning clearing the system. If you just do a data and cache wipe it should be fine, if of course you are running an ICS ROM.

...which already has the same kernel, so there would be no point.
If this isn't source, then I don't understand what this is for. Every i717 ICS leak currently available has this kernel already included. Having it on your SD card just in case isn't really going to do anyone any good, since everyone running any of the currently available ICS ROMs is already running this very kernel. If this is acceptable, then I won't be surprised to see others parting out the leak and posting pieces of it in the dev section, when it really belongs in General since it isn't source. Please don't flame me, just trying to make a point.

It's pretty useful for noobs who flashed DaG's kernel mistaking it for an ICS kernel.
OP is pretty misleading. There is no reason to flash this at the moment.

Actually, I dont understand what the big deal is...
There are stock roms in the development thread aren't there?
Stock Odin recovery image:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Stock boot & recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504999
Strange that no one *****ed about these being in Android Development... I dont see what the difference is.
All this is is the stock kernel from the ICS leak taken out and made available for flashing in case you want to flash the stock kernel FROM THE ICS LEAK (so, if you are still on stock GB, this wont be helpful, this is ONLY useful if you are running the stock, unmodified ICS leak and have changed the kernel and want to revert back to the stock ICS kernel from the leaked ICS rom).
The OP is pretty self explanatory, in fact, the title of the thread is pretty self explanatory. I mean, ICS 4.0.3 STOCK KERNEL sounds pretty clear to me.
My only beef is not with the thread or its location but the lack of organization on XDA. There should literally be a category for ROMS, another for mods & themes & apps, and another for stock images. Q&A should be removed and combined with General. Given the limitation of the current choices, this doesnt fit under General, Q&A, Themes and Apps, or Accessories. The next best fit is Android Development. This is of course all my opinion.
Thread moved
Stock kernels belong in General.

I really didn't want to jump back into this, and it seriously doesn't bother me at all that this was posted... that said, there are NO modified ICS kernels on our Notes right now (we're all on the same kernel at the moment), so this won't become useful until someone modifies one (as appdroid apparently intends to do to add init.d) -- and even then, it will need to be replaced once the official ICS build/source gets released.
Either way, like I said, this thread doesn't bother me at all... appdroid's dev efforts on the Note are much appreciated!
Hey all. Quick question for ya. I am going to flash one of the JB roms to my wifes galaxy tab 10.1 this weekend.
She is currently running task's honeycomb rom. She has been running that for a good 5 months now.
What order do I proceed to get her to JB??
Must I flash an ICS rom first then flash a JB rom??
Do I need to flash a JB bootloader or an ICS bootloader?? If so where can I find them. Been searching the forum with no luck.
Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Specifically the orders or anything I have overlooked.
Thanks in advance,
Nycorduroy
not mandatory to have an ICS step, you can directly go to JB.
you just need CWM, you probably already have it if you are running task's rom.
backup your app (titanium is a great tool in my opinion)
copy rom file to your tab
make a full wipe (+cache +davilk)
flash rom
reboot and enjoy

This does not belong in the Development section. All questions need to be put into the Q&A section. Please do that from now on.
With that said, I am not sure about the bootloader but you probably need to update your version of CWM recovery, and you can find out about that as well as the bootloader stuff in the threads for CM10/JB. Pershoot's threads are probably a good place to look as well.
Edit: well someone got to it first, follow their instructions as well

Yes, Pershoot stated in Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10 Preview thread that you need to have a US HC or ICS bootloader in order not to have charging SODs. If you have a US bootloader you should be fine if not flash a stock US HC or ICS rom via Odin before you flash CM10 (you'll loose all data on the tab). Alternatively there are flashable US bootloaders but I've never tried one. I can't put the links because search feature is is temporarily unavailable.
Finally, You could still get charging sods and some wifi problems etc. even if you came from a US bootloader. Pershoot says a small minority will face these issues no matter what. A hard reset fixes these issues temporarily. If you could wait a little bit more a new cm10 is on the way with 3.1 kernel which is supposed to work fully functional. But still, I think current CM10 is the best rom available right now.
This is the NFC file from April 2012 for the Note. I read it as the GB update. I have tried flashing it a few times on CM10 nightly 10/8 and a few earlier builds and have not had any luck. I am coming to the conclusion that perhaps it is the version of CWM instead? I don't have a tight enough grasp on how to convert this file over to flash correctly. I have tried changing the binary-installer file and didn't have luck with that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the file source.

Thanks again.
Anyone?

cm10 has nfc built in already. you dont need that file. and it is for stock rom which means touchwiz so not compatable with cm.

My NFC has never worked with any JB rom. It works like a champ on stock rom. I'm just trying to cover all my bases. Very hard to trouble shoot when you really don't know where it is going wrong. I have wiped the phone completely, done dirty installs on top of the stock rom. If you can name it, chances are that I've tried it. Even tried EVERY kernel I could find for every version of android for the Note. Very frustrating because it is something simple that not many people use, but I have NFC tags all over that I used all the time.
Thank you for your reply though.
Hi, I successfully flashed my T-mobile Vibrant about twelve months ago to a custom 2.2 Froyo rom (Trigger 3.2 Final). It's a great rom and EVERYTHING works. However lately I've read rave things said about newer roms such as ICS passion. It's been a while and I'm still a noobie at this so my question is:
What is the easiest way to get to ICS passion from my current custom Froyo rom ? Thanks ~ Chris
hi,
Its very easy to get ICS running on your vibe. There may be various ways to proceed. I ll give you what I did (AFTER failing for 5-6 times )
Odin back to stock (It may be not necessary. But I started from the beginning which is better AFAIK )
Then stored ICS ROM (ICZen which in my case) and update.zip (CWM) on internal SD
then flashed GB Bootloaders (It also may/ may not necessary. But I did it b/c I already had many failed attempts)
Then flashed CM7 first
After that flashed ICS on top of it
Worked at last for me
NOTE: Please read relevant instructions provided by ROMs b/c flashing one may differ from flashing another.
You can find more information if you run into problems in my thread [SOLVED]Cannot install ICS ROM--please HELP

Happy Flashing
You may just want to read this before flashing ICS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580902

^^^ Truth
And I would suggest staying away from Passion. It is based on 4.0.3 and there was a pretty significant code upgread when ICS went to 4.0.4.
IIRC, Passion is the last ROM that still uses 4.0.3 and is probably why it is dead now (but for some reason lives in infamy on YouTube and Google Search).
Haarsh's way works just fine but here is another method as another option too.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies. This is why I subscribed to the forum.
mmm... I see a few pitfalls ahead.
Background info from me is that I can't use Odin on my Linux computer. Never really got into Heimdall. I flashed my first rom by downloading the rom zip file and put it on my phone's internal sd card then let clockwork do the rest, ie nandroid backup and flash the rom from the update zip. I'd like to do the same again.
Ok, it's my understanding that anything above 2.2 needs the GB bootloader so the first step is to install that over my Trigger rom. I think Trigger would still run with the GB bootloader at that stage. Next download an update zip of a rom of my choice, put it on my phone's sd, then flash it with Clockwork.
Seems to me that should work or am I missing something I wonder ?
You can flash the GB bootloader. Its backward compatible so it will work with any ROM currently available.
Download the .zip of the ROM you want, and any Gapps if applicable. Then just follow the instructions on page 1 of the ROM (OP).
The usual would be Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Clear Cache, Clear Dalvik. Flash ROM, flash Gapps, restart. The instructions will tell you all you need to know.
If something goes wrong, give us a shout. That's what we're here for.
help me plz

Is there somewhere where I can download a stock rom for the Galaxy Player 5.0? All the Custom Roms I downloaded for it had bugs and were not worth it. Could someone help me get a stock rom for it?
search the developer forum for the Stock. I'm pretty sure somebody posted a stock image and pit file somewhere in there.

IYes everything is in the sticky threads at development chapter..
Thanks to great work done by Zaclimon.
Assuming that you have the US version, here is the thread for the stock ROM.
Out of curiosity, which ROMs have you tried. I was considering trying another ROM after using the stock one for a few Weeks. What didn't work out?
I use chip rom for months and did not notice any bag.

I have RemicsUX right now. My brother has the same thing, but the camera doesn't work which he didn't like, and flash does not work either. Before that I had a jelly bean Rom (I forget which one) and the play store didn't work right.
I think I found a stock rom that will work now, thanks guys
