Is there any recommendations for a car mode app for the SGS3? I'm looking for some thing similar to Google's Car Mode app which I would get, but they haven't made it ICS compatible yet and I don't really want to root my phone yet to get it on there manually.
I've seen some video's around for the S2 and it appears that there was a Samsung Car Mode app that was available.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I'm aware of the "Driving Mode" in the notifications bar but that only reads stuff out to you from my experience.
Bump...
Not sure what the car mode app does but if you need it to read sms etc to you then I use ECID. Reads out the caller ID as well as emails and txt messages.

Thanks for your post. What I mean by a car mode app it would be something that provides an interface with nice large icons temporarily replacing the default home screen. Similar to Googles car mode app (not available to ics users)

Is there a way to turn off the SMS delivery notification sound but keep the SMS received notification sound?
Not sure on the stock app, on handcent all the sounds/notifications can be modified or removed.
I use SMS Go Pro and it allows you to turn off SMS delivery notifications. That's the beauty of Android. Don't like the SMS app? Get a different one!
Anyone else?
I want to keep stock SMS app.

I too want to know this. Perhaps its possible to edit the code for the app itself just like the camera app has been modified?
Yeah, it can be tough on some of the stock android software since development minded folks seldom want to mess with something that already has multiple fully fleshed out apps to replace it. I kinda like touch wiz once its dewizified but there is almost nothing out there that you can add on to it or use to modify it. I did think of one thing though, they added some new setting adjustments into the messaging app in CM7. You might want to consider grabbing that and seeing if it brings this to the table. I cant recall all the changes in it as I didn't use it. That would be kinda stock messaging.
*BUMP*
Has anyone come up with a solution to this, or are we forced to use another app for SMS? I really like the stock app, but are very annoyed by the fact that I cannot change this sound or remove it.
My problem is completely the opposite, I am trying to turn the notification on with no luck.
neither sms go pro or stock are responding, ticked all boxes i.e. sounds, sms options...etc with no luck.
any ideas...running ics 4.0.4 on sg3
HI Folks,
Most of you will be aware of the Samsung Dive account where one can track the location of the phone and remote wipe it etc.
I am aware of other apps on the market that replicate some of theses features but haven't found one that allows the finder of the phone means to contact the owner to return it.
What I would like is the lock screen to have a "phone owner" facility as well as the emergency call button.
I like to have the phone locked to prevent unauthorised use should it go missing but its doesn't help an honest person who might find the phone to return it.
Anyone seen an app that has this function?
Or make an app to do it, I would pay for an app that could do it.
Thanks
Del

Why not try using a 'low-tech' solution & putting your contact details on a sticky label on the back - or a note between the phone and case. Remember your phone might be found by an old dear who doesn't even know how to turn it on!
Come to think of it, you could also use an invisible marker to write your house number & postcode under the battery (and on the battery) - this is one of the first things the police will look for if they recover your phone, or come across someone with it in their possession in 'suspicious circumstances'.
Well that made me smile, yes a perfectly good solution to the problem, and i will be doing that as it would still work even if the battery was dead
Would still like the over engineered solution too if its available or if anyone is making a security app for the phone to incorporate it as a feature.
The app called "Android Lost" lets you place a note saying whatever you want it to. You can also trace it with GPS, set an alarm etc.

Tested it out and it works a treat.
Hi guys:
Since I am quite new to here with less posts, I can not post this question to the development forum yet. But I hope someone can help me on the Rom modifications.
The AT&T Note is my first Android device. I like it and rooted and flshed with the modified Saurom VIIa already. But I just could not find a way to ture off the voice alarm on new email arrival.
In stock rom, I only hear a pin drop sound notification of new emails, which is perfect. However, in the Saurom, I now get a female voice alter "one new email" which is annoying when it is quiet or during a meeting. I search almost everywhere on my note and just could not find a way to turn it off. Did I miss anything or is this a "built-in" feature for the Saurom?
Again, I am sorry to post the question here, since I could not potst in the development forum yet. Thanks a lot for your help!

I had the same problem if you're talking about a sound notification of a new email, only mine was set to a loud and irritating siren noise.
You have to open up the email app and go to menu -> settings and there is a notification section where you can disable or change the tone.

Thanks for the reply. But I was talking talking about "sound" notice, which is fine and can be turn off. I was talking about the "voice" notification, which tells you (in a female voice) "one new email". I can't turn the lady off. Not sure where and how to get rid of it

Where is driving mode? I could not find it in settings......
Sorry this is my first Android device, and not very familiar with the settings yet......
Do these steps:
Settings
Voice input and output
Text to speech settings
Uncheck driving mode
That should take care of it!

Hello.
I'm using a German version of the Galaxy S3 with stock 4.1.1 ROM.
I own it since few days, coming from iPhones and I'm still learning how to use it.
One very useful thing I've found is the blocking mode. I use it at night to stop notifications sound and to permit only my family calls to go through.
Whatsapp notifications, though, are still coming through and I'm forced to manually reduce the notifications volume to zero.
Is it a bug or am I missing something?
I've tried setting the blocking mode with both time range and "always", but no differences at all.
Thanks.
I was woken up this morning by whatsapp messages, so if anyone has an answer it'd be appreciated.
I am having the same problem.. i think the problem is with whatsapp itself it must be a bug as when u go to notification settings the "ringer" whats comes up as default tone not the notification tone.
hope this get resolved quick! i have emailed whatsapp but got standard email template... delete app ... reboot re install ..etc
No one has a solution?
I have the same problem but a month or two before it did worked. I guess that maybe an update of whatsapp has disabled this. It very annoying waking up because of that horrible whatsapp noise.
Update
Just installed JB 4.1.2 and the problem is still there.
So it seems to be a Whatsapp problem, and it's a very stupid management of the notifications.
The notifications should be managed by the system and if the system says "shut up" ALL notifications should comply.
For me this is a point in favor of iOS.
P.S.: not a fan boy of course. I own both devices and it's normal I compare them.
WhatsApp uses a different method to sounf notificiations, this is why it can sound notifications even playing music (other apps would mute/pause the music for the notification)
I guess someonr could patch WhatsApp, my smali knowledge isn't that good to do it myself.

I understand, but if Google implements a kind of "do not disturb" mode it should know that some apps can use music as notification sound and block that too...
Problem lies with whatsapp. I did mail them about it, no response :/ m forced to put my phone on silent always :/

[SOLUTION] Blocking Mode WhatsApp Sounds
First of all, I do know that this is a fairly old thread, HOWEVER, it is still the first result on google for "blocking mode whatsapp", so i figure this is where people look. So i hope you will forgive me.
I have found a solution to the very annoying problem which many people seem to suffer from.
I have found a way to include the whatsapp sounds under the android blocking mode.
You will need the LightFlow app, (which i believe is a must have app for the S3 anyways (OP said he uses a s3)).
after you got light flow:
1: In What's app:
- disable notification sounds for incoming messages(not in light flow, in whats app). set it to silent or disable at all
2: The go to light flow and:
- enable sound notifications for whats app
- set what ever notification sound you would like to have for whats app when blocking mode is NOT enabled
- under Sounds-->Volume control method-->tick "Android standard notification volume"
Now it you enable blocking mode, it also blocks what's app sounds and if blocking mode is disabled, everything is normal.
hope that helps....took me quite a while to figure it out.
edit: oh and i do not have any affiliation with the light flow app or their developers!!! i just used it for changing lights and came across the sound feature by chance!!!
its a shame. other blockers block it, why can't the native JB also do it?
furstrating. didn't want to install another software on the phone when the block mode works so well, except for whatsapp of course.
Does this exist with 4.2.2 as well?

Yeah, I've got a Nexus 4 on 4.2.2 and the issue is on that as well. It's a problem with the way whatsapp handles notifications, not the Android firmware version.
Thanks Tyler D for the solution, will be testing this later today.
I am experiencing the very same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S4 running 4.2.2.
Do you have any news? I tried to email whatsapp support a few days ago but I am still waiting their reply.

Hello Everyone,
I am using the stock messaging app. I did look through the settings but did not see this option.
I am happy with it BUT I would like to know if there is a setting or another app that will always return me to the main text list.
Meaning
If I sent person X a text it does not stay in that message it goes back to the main list of text messages. This would prevent accidentally texting the wrong person.
any info
I don't think that's possible with the stock messaging app. See if any third party apps have that feature (not likely).
I thought so as well.
I am hoping that someone might know of a setting or another app that does this.
Don't know if there's a 3rd party app for it, but I suggest you get a look at Tasker's capabilities. You can do A LOT with it after you have an understanding how it works.

[EDIT] Hmmh, it seems the task you have described in OP couldn't be done in Tasker either..There's an option for that kind of behaviour, but ONLY when done by Tasker i.e. SMS sent automatically by Tasker. So if you want automated texts, yeah sure, but not the way you want it unfortunately. At least not directly, need to think of a convenient way to make it work..

I don't think you are understanding what I am asking.
It's like the phone dialer apps. You dial a phone # and AFTER you hang up you have options such as return to the call log or return to the dialer or return to the home screen.
After I send a text I want it to return to the main text list and NOT stay in the text of the last person I sent it to.
I hope I cleared this up for all.
Thanks everyone:good:
