I just rooted and unlocked both my phone and my girlfriends. I did exactly the same procedure for both. Then I flashed viperROM 1.2.1 and runandhide's button remaps. It's also worth knowing that the phones are sitting side by side. Both have the latest PRLs and did a profile update on mine as well, also tried to completely deactivate and reactivate.
Now that the background info is out of the way, here is my issue:
Randomly (I tried to find a pattern, none emerged) my phone will go into roaming and the network operator will switch to "31000". Except it isn't roaming, the phone does not work at all, I can't place a call or use data (I do have data/voice enabled under roaming guards). The strange thing about this is that my girlfriends phone which is literally right next to mine has full bars. The issue lasts for about 1-10 seconds and then it's back on the Sprint network.
Here is a screenshot of when it happens:

What could be the cause? Faulty phone? I'm flashing back to stock to monitor if it happens there, I will update. Does anyone have any insight? Should I replace my phone?
Try disabling LTE and Roaming
I was having the same problem. I tried updating PRL, etc without effect. Finally went into "Settings" > "Mobile network settings". I disabled LTE ("Network Mode" > "CDMA only") and Roaming ("Roaming" > "Sprint only"). I haven't had any problems since. I'm wondering if it was a fluke and the problem will return. Hopefully someone else can verify/reproduce this solution, since this appears to be a huge issue.
Thanks for posting
I have experienced similar problems...I will try to adjust roaming settings.
I have noticed my phone will go into roam for no reason.
My phone is not unlocked and not rooted.

Hi,
I want to know how to disable GSM on P500 since I have no data plan. It drains my battery (about 50-60% everyday)
OR
Is there a way to keep GSM to use MMS only ? (I have unlimited MMS on my plan, but no data plan)
In parameters, I've try to uncheck "Données activées" (Must be something like "Data enabled" in english) but it still drains 50% of my battery at the end of the day.
Sorry for my english.
Thanks.
edit: hum...sorry, I think I have to look to disable 3G and not GSM...
Ok, answer to myself...APNDroid seems to do it...BUT if it disables 3G, does it mean that it can have an effect on my coverage for calls ?
BTW, my provider is Telus, can I just change APN to only allow MMS and block all other attempts to use data ? I tried it but when I add a APN, I can't select it.
Thanks
If I'm not wrong, pulling down your status bar and pressing the 4th button will disable 3g usage. This shows that it is disabled.

Thanks AsherChua,
You answered my first question, thanks for that.
I also tried to create a new APN to use only MMS, so i think (but could be wrong) it will never use data for internet usage and only MMS will work. The problem is: if I create a new APN and set the "APN Type" to "mms", the new APN will not have the toggle button to select it. If I enter anything else like "mms " (with a space), I'll be able to select it.
Anyone knows how to resolve this problem ? thanks.
Whenever my phone switches to roaming on V I get this notification that my data connectivity was lost, even if I'm connected to WiFi. When I return to Sprint the message persists, i.e. it doesn't go away until I clear it.
Q: Can I disable this message somehow? It's friggin' annoying to have that little triangle in my notification area every 10 minutes (I don't get Sprint signal in my office, there is a V tower on the building literally next door).

I was trying to figure this out myself. I don't see anywhere in settings for us to turn it off though.
I also find this notification annoying.
And searched without any luck.

I too would be interested in learning how to disable this annoying 'feature'.
Thanks
Bump
I picked up a Verizon S4 off CL yesterday after calling Verizon to verify that it had a clean ESN. I buy/sell/trade a lot of phones so this was a common thing for me. Upon inserting my sim card, I received full 4G and about 4 bars of service. Soon after leaving, I dropped to 3G, then no service. I went through everything I know to do:
Reboot / toggle airplane mode
Remove battery and sim
Factory reset
Odin stock image
Changed network settings in "Testing" via ServiceMode Shortcut app
Replaced sim card (twice)
I even opened the phone to see if the antenna appeared broken or disconnected

I've confirmed the device isn't water damaged by the strips on the phone (and inside) and on the battery.
Verizon has confirmed multiple times that the ESN is clean so I honestly can't think of what is wrong. Every time I've replaced the sim card, it could never activate in this S4. Popping it in my other S4 allowed it to activate and function properly. The phone has no physical damage so I don't believe it's sustained any physical damage. GPS works like a charm.
I can only seem to get sporadic signal when driving. Once I had it long enough to dial #832 and confirm it was working. I then lost it immediately.
Of course the seller will no longer answer my calls/texts and Verizon says it's not warranted. Besides sending it to Samsung for repair, what do you guys recommend?

Hi guys,
I hope someone here can help me figure out a solution to this problem. It seems that every time I switch on my data (4G, 3G, etc.) Google Play Services suddenly kicks into overdrive and downloads an insane amount of data for no reason that I can figure out.
My first indication this was happening was when my mobile operator turned off my data a few days after getting the phone because I had already hit my monthly limit (3GB)! I switched off my data until my new bill arrived and when I turned it back on again on the 14th of this month, it started happening again. I went into settings and selected "restrict background data" and this stopped it, but my phone wasn't working as I expected it, as I'm sure you can imagine. Over the previous weekend, I was staying at a B&B. I turned on data for an hour and unselected "restrict background data" so I could use the phone like normal. I left the phone down for that hour doing nothing before I remembered I left data on (the horror!) and discovered it downloaded a further 300-odd MB's in that time.
I've attached some screens for you to look at. This is a new phone, but this behavior is totally alien to me. Can anyone help?

RESOLVED:
Called HTC Support and they were as surprised as anyone would be. They reluctantly decided that the best, even though the most primative, form of action here would be Factory Reset.
It worked, so I'm glad I have my phone working as it should now.
Just got my Tmobile variant unlocked and using on AT&T. Only getting 4G. I've seen users having the same issue. Has anyone got LTE working? I've tried numerous APN's from AT&T as well as other suggestions and still nothing. Thanks in advance for any help.
Yes I have lte working on cricket(att). I have attached some screen shots.

I have a T-Mobile phone as well, and I had a more complicated problem getting mine to work. First thing's first - make sure you have your phone properly activated at an AT&T retail store, which is to say you can't have hotswapped the SIM; it needs to be tied to your IMEI. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're using the nxtgenphone APN. If you still have no luck, maybe you have the same problem as me. On AT&T's end, for some bizarre reason, my IMEI got registered as one that could not support LTE, so my line didn't get provisioned for it. I kept calling back, but no one could figure out how to change my provisioning. Finally I got a rep who tried something out of the box. He generated a "dummy" IMEI number for me, one that would be seen on the system as one that supports LTE, and registered that to my line. Lo and behold, that did the trick. I called Technical Support for this (you can ask to be transfered to that department if you call AT&T), so you might have to go through that - the good news is, it was rather quick, and I didn't have to get a new SIM card for it.
