Waterproof Case? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Do they make a fully waterproof case for the Note yet??
Sent from my Rooted Samsung Galaxy Note Running ICS 4.0.4

If you go to the Samsung website there is an accessories page off the Note's product page. There is a pouch that is sized for the Note that can hold the Note and is waterproof. This is probably not what you want though, as you probably want a case rather than a pouch. It is unlikely you will find any case that is waterproof, you may find some that are water resistant.
Anyway the product is by Berlin Gear, and is often sold at boat rental locations to keep your phone with you when you are boating.

Oh one thing, there are a bunch of pouches that fit the galaxy note out there, the one I pointed to just happens to be easy to find from the Samsung Galaxy Note page. You can also go to Amazon and look for one, there is even a skin tight pouch that can be wrapped around the Galaxy note that will make it waterproof, although not sure for how long. This makes parts of the phone inaccessible, but would be good if you need to use the phone for a period of time near water.

I already spent a few hours on the phone trying to convince them. First time at 1 million sold, second time at US launch.Offered to take my phone over there for measurements and prototyping. Got either: keep your eyes peeled on the facebook page. Or: we are working on a universal case that should work for your phone.
So, I don't know what their R&D consists of, but apparently many millions of units on the market isn't enough to get their interest. Maybe the budget just doesn't support new products... or the owner is an iPhan.

That makes no sense on life proofs part...gee who wants to make money...

A thread to mock them all!

So I got my Galaxy Note today, and as soon as I got home, I put it under my electron microscope, and to my dismay, I noticed nano scratches! I wanted to reach out to everyone to see if they noticed this flaw on their phones. I was considering using hydrochloric acid and a high speed belt sander to remove them. The only problem is, they are so small, they can't be seen with the nakid eye, and I dont know what to do. I paid $300 for this phone, and I find this flaw to be totally unacceptable. My phone should be absolutely, 100% perfect! I contacted Samsung about this issue, and they told me to suck it.
I guess it's off to AT&T, where I will open and inspect every single Note, until I find the perfect one. If they won't exchange it for me, I will lie and commit fraud to get my way!

Well played.
I'll take your messed up Note off your hands for $20. You pay shipping, though.
Kinda' funny.
You know, people can hate on iSheep all they want, but the fact is most of Apple's phones are PERFECT and uniform. Why do I mention this? Simple, the bar has been raised significantly for aesthetics and performance. Small amounts of burn-in, tiny amounts of black crush, overzealous memory use, uneven component quality -- with rare exception, iPhones don't suffer from any of this. While Samsung clearly has the better phone overall, bits and pieces still lag far behind.
P.S. I love my Note.

To add to what the OP was saying, at least how it appears to me; I bought my phone the day it came out, I just couldn't wait until October until my contract would have let me upgraded. Went down to the At&t store, bought it. They had NO accessories for it, cases, screen protectors, nothing. Anyway back at the house I played with the Note for about 4 hours solid that night, running quadrant, downloading different apps, games; Anything I could think of I did, I gave my phone "electrical" hell that night.
Next day I went on eBay found a case for $9, screen protector for $5, got a mhl adapter and 2 generic spare batteries and a host cable. Later that evening the 1st un-official rom was released for the Note. I didn't have a second thought, downloaded Odin and flashed away, in fact been doing that ever since.
Then I started reading post on here: Hair line cracks on Note, black banding issues, sound woes, etc...
I guess I am wired different than everyone else; If I buy something, and it looks ok, functions ok and was what I wanted to begin with i'm happy. I am not a person that will nitpick something to death like someone with OCD on crack, it's just not me.
If a stranger is watching me use my phone and wants to check it out, I don't mind handing it over for them to try out. I take care of what I have but I don't baby it either, it gets used.
[ Just checked my flash counter and i'm up to 38 Odin flashes plus how ever many I have done with cwm. I wonder if i can get up to 100 ]

Really? Are you suuuure about that? I recall the iPhone 4 requiring a $35 bumper case to get decent reception. Not to mention the yellow tinting on the displays. Then there was the fracturing near the power button on the white 3gs.

Questions from a prospective buyer. Opinions wanted.

How difficult is it to root the Note right now? I was thinking about getting one soon but I don't have too much experience rooting devices (I've got a Kindle Fire running CM7 and I rooted my old Samsung Intercept, but those were pretty much rooted with apps or a prebuilt program so I can't take much credit). But I would definitely like to root it. I have gotten used to the freedom already.
Also, what's your overall opinion on the Note? I've heard a lot of good about it but I haven't heard much from developers personally.
I know its size is a prominent aspect but it's also what I like least about it (I haven't held one in my own hands yet though). If I'm into the capabilities of the Note but not its size, should I just go for the Galaxy S II?
Any and all opinions are welcome from Note owners.. I'm trying to make up my mind by the time I get my tax refund back (finally!) so anything you can tell me about your experience with the beast is appreciated.
Thanks,
NoGloww

Rooting is easy, you can use Odin to flash a pre root kernel. Takes all of two minutes. I enjoy this phone a lot. I wish there was a better choice of accessories, i.e. cases, and am afraid to see how gigantic this phone will be with an Otterbox case. Pretty much all good besides that.

I've seen a few, but the build quality isn't where I'd like it. The reiko I hear is sloppy, the kracken is supposed to be good, just looks bad. I've got a speck case and it's embarrassing. 800 phone wrapped in scratched crap. There's a pre root kernel by da g, if all you're looking for is root, that's the way to go. Once you flash that your counter goes up one so it won't matter if you decide you want to go deeper and flash a custom recovery later down the line. Sorry I don't have the link for it, but it's in dev section for this phone and it will have all the appropriate links for drivers, Odin, and kernel.
update, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22684223 there's the pre root kernel for this phone along with drivers etc. that is the reiko case I saw. I read reviews on either that one or that one in black/ blue that said it was a sloppy fit. 7 bucks beats 60 though. According to Otterbox the defender is 6 1/8 * 3 3/4 or somewhere around there. I don't know if that would even got in my pocket anymore

Fits perfectly; a bit too bulky for everyday use
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H13M2K
Also fits perfectly. Nice and slim, but provides a good grip. It's what I keep on the Note.
$22 for both. Prime got it to me the next morning. Amazon also has 32GB micro SD for under $25 if you are placing an order anyway

Cracked Screen

Looks like I'm the first to post about this in the HOX+ section
Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:
always sad to hear about the death of a beloved phone :crying: Good luck and please keep us informed.
I'm more sorry to hear that u have to use a sorry a** iPhone for the time being
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared
Best of luck getting your baby working

I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.
Don't feel bad. I just sent mine back to HTC as well. All layers of the screen destroyed but surprisingly the phone still worked so I'm looking at a new digitizer and lcd. I miss her

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).
Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.
I found a company in Vancouver that will do it for $135 so we'll see how that repair goes.

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

Am sorry to hear about your screen. Don't wanna go off topic but stick to the HOX+. I have the nexus 4 as well and it's a good phone and all but the camera and audio experience is awful. If you use your phone with a headset from time to time or take pics the Nexus 4 is ridiculous, I mean really bad.
Thanks for reassuring me I made the right decision then. Good to know about the camera and audio quality.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.
I'll give :good: for HTC for their quick turnaround and the nice packaging the phone came in.
All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.

Omate TrueSmart

I am curious if any other Note owners are backing this project on Kickstarter?
If you haven't checked it out, go to kickstarter and search for it. It is worth a look for tech enthusiasts. If you have been considering it, there is only 23 hours left, so jump on board quick.
Since this is a general question regarding using this device as a companion with the note, I hope it is OK. If it is not, just delete this and no harm done.
Yeah, I'm backing it. I waited hoping Samsung would have something earth shattering but was really disappointed with their offering.
I was also disappointed with the Gear. The leaked renderings were no where near the final, and the tech is way behind.
They just announced a million dollar stretch goal. So excited!
What is this?

Take the specs, the price tag and the fact that it will only pair with the Note 3 and it's a loser in my opinion. I think it's also really cool that you can slip a SIM card in the TrueSmart and it's a stand alone phone. Might look kind of weird talking to your wrist but then some folks think the Note looks weird slapped up next to your ear!

[poll] spigen snap-case for note 3 - TAKES TWO SECONDS - PLEASE PARTICIPATE !!

Hey everyone,
Do you remember the amazing snap-case (attached picture) Spigen made for the Galaxy S series, iPhone and Note 2? They have only released a version for the Galaxy S4 and according to my email exchanges with them, they have no plans to release it for the Note 3.
Basically, I wanted to create a poll and petition as did others for the SPIGEN SVA. If it worked for the SVA, it can certainly work for the Snap-Case!
For those who don't know, the SNAP-CASE was amazing, full-grain 100% leather, in white or black (with a red stripe). It had a compartment for ID cards and credit cards, and came with a free slim Ultra Fit case that you could place right on the wallet, so you could 'snap' it out as need be. It was simply brilliant, and made the Note 2 shine. It wasn't for everyone as it added bulk, but was it ever so elegant and professional.
Now I need your help! Even if you don't think the case is nice, why not sign the petition? It'll help fellow XDA members who, like me, adored the Note 2 snapcase, and want to see it back for the Note 3!
The help from you all to spread the petition is greatly appreciated in advance!

Can you link your post to a reply of this message? Maybe we can fuel the conversation. I was hoping we could garner more attention to the poll, but so far not many people participated. I still have troubling understanding why the snapcase was discontinued for the note series, I know it was one of their best selling case for the Note 2! What else doesn't make sense is that it was continued for the S4, and I would imagine for the S5, subsequently.
For professionals, it was the ultimate tool, and such an eye-catcher. During meetings, clients would always inquire about it, wherever in the world I would meet them. Lets hope this thread picks up and more people participate!
Thanks for your comment brother!
Doesn't look like this is getting any interest I did find this case though think I will just have to settle for this http://www.incipio.com/cases/samsun...samsung-galaxy-note-3-watson-wallet-case.html
