All,
I'm having a problem under two different ICS Roms (the "unofficial" leak and the ICS Objection RC3) where when I disable WIFI or move out of wifi range it takes several minutes for the data connection to establish. If I go to Settings -> About -> Status and watch while turning off WIFI I see "Mobile Network State" go to Connecting... and "Mobile Network Type" flip between HSPA:11, HSPAP:15, UTMS:3, then settle on HSPA:11 for several minutes. Then it flips through them again and settles on HSPAP:15 and boom I have data. This doesn't ALWAYS happen though, but about 90% of the time it does.
I've seen a few people mention this but nothing widespread in the forums - I'm worried it's related to my phone specifically. I flashed back to the stock gingerbread and the data switches are instantaneous every single time, so it doesn't seem to be hardware. Since this only happens on the ICS roms I'm assuming it's related to them but not sure where to check next. Any kind souls have any ideas to help me move forward? I'm currently on the ICS Objection RC3 rom and really don't want to go back
Thanks
I am having the same problem, I am on the stock ucle2 leaked rom not rooted, and it just started happing. After my wifi being on overnight I wake up and go to leave my house and my 3g/4g will not turn back on, I found that if I turn airplane on and then off again my data will turn back on. Does anyone know what would cause this, and any ideas on how to fix it?

I'm having some strange 3g hiccups lately. I'll elaborate.
sometimes while browsing etc the phone will hang on 3g connections (eg does not even resolve DNS). the data connection icon keeps cycling the 3g and H symbols; at each new symbol switch the upload and download arrows seem to 'do something' for some instants then they fail and start the cycle all over again. I don't even seem to find a way to resolve the issue as putting the phone in airplane mode for some time does not help, and neither disabling 3g networks for a couple minutes. I also tried a reboot which did not help. The only working solution seems to be patiently wait till it works again.
I would not swear on this but I think this issue started when I flashed stock 360. I am however 100% sure that this was not happening, say, a couple months ago.
I am not even sure there is a problem with the phone, there might as well be some problems with the carrier.
anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi, I'm currently using ICS Passion v10.6. I do not have a data plan, but am always connected to wifi at my house (router is usually about 3 feet from my phone).
Often my phone will lose google connectivity (wifi and signal bars will go gray), and often, usually when i leave my phone untouched for a while and then check it, i will notice that wifi had been lost and it does not reconnect until i turn the screen back on. I have the wifi sleep policy set to never sleep (keep wifi on: always), and the battery info says that the wifi is constantly on.
I was wondering if a different modem would help or if it is a bug in the rom itself or the kernel? My wifi and google connections would constantly be on 24/7 when I was running bionix v1.3.1. I've tried flashing the KB1 modem which bionix uses, but i get the same result.
Thanks for any help
Hey Devils,
I've had some of the same issues, aslo using 10.6. If I leave my phone alone for a bit it seems to stop getting notifications from data. The best example of this is I use Trillian IM and I can be chatting on it. Finish. And put it aside for awhile and not get any notifications and then when I hit the power button all of a sudden I've got 30 IMs waiting for me.
I have tried several different Vibrant ICS modems from this thread but they all caused big issues for me. some caused massive power drain but all of them caused my lock screen be unresponsive when I hit the power button and I'd have to wait for the screen to blink out and hit the power button again to be able to get access. The same would happen when I get a phone call, sometimes the screen just would not respond when it lit up for an incoming call. I think it was because it would start searching for data connectivity (so it seems related to the problem which makes me think it's not modem related)
In the end, I went back to the KB5 modem and my screen issues seem to have resolved. I may try Passion 11 soon and I'll post results if it helps, but right now I'm not ready to do another change on my phone.
-update- I just checked and saw that v12 is out now and has both a kernel update and an update to wifi. I'll probably try that tonight.
-update- I think this might be being caused by "Deep Sleep" causing the phone to shut down it's data antennas to turn of to save battery. I've installed "NStools" on my phone and set it to set the min CPU freq. to 200mhz to see if that will prevent deep sleep. I'm not certain this tool will work 100% on this build, but we'll see I guess.
I'm also running the Vibrant without data, using wifi to do things with the internet.
Since flashing ICS I haven't had any wifi issues on the two networks that I've used. Seems odd that you are now having them. Have you tried a different hotspot?
I have had issues sending text messages. I can place and receive calls, receive texts but can't send any. Have you had any of these issues? I'm curious if it has to do with the lack of data plan.
I posted a question about this last week thinking it was a wifi problem, but it turns out it happens when I'm on data too, so it's an overall data problem... I'm just using wifi most of the time so that was the only place I had noticed it.
Occasionally my phone will stop being able to send/receive data. I'll turn it on and try to load a web page, for example, and it will just hang. Turning wifi on/off doesn't fix it, and turning data on/off doesn't seem to fix it either. The only solution I've found is going into airplane mode for a second. The frequency varies.. it seems to happen between 1-5 times a day, so it's pretty inconvenient.
I've read around a bit and it sounds like it's caused by the phone trying to get a 4G connection but it isn't able to or something, so it just hangs there and never lets the 3g/wifi connections get used (due to priority of connections or something). I almost always have wifi and don't care that much about data speeds, so if disabling 4g altogether would fix the problem I'm game (although I'd prefer another solution...). I tried the *#*#4636#*#* code to change it to GSM only (I read somewhere that that'll disable 4g), but it instantly reverts back to what it originally was, so that doesn't seem like it'll work. Is there another way to disable 4g?
I've got the stock ROM running Entropy's latest DD kernel.
I've had this same exact issue while running Miui and the Siyah kernel. What I've narrowed it down to is likely to be some sort of power save mode that kicks in when the phone goes into deep sleep mode. I haven't had the issue since I've ran the Kernel cleaning scripts and reflashed the latest Siyah kernel, but it reappears occasionally. On certain releases of Siyah, I've ran SetCPU at a minimum of 200Mhz to keep the phone from going into deep sleep just so it wouldn't turn off the cell radio.
Also, as a side note, I've had this happen when my phone loses signal. After so much searching, it will turn off the entire cell radio and display "Emergency Calls Only" until Airplane mode is toggled.
I had this same problem even back with my Captivate. Hoping ICS won't have the same issue. I'm running CM7 and Siyah kernel.
I am having the same problem Data wont work until i turn airplane mode on and off

Have you found a resolution?
I have seen various posts about this, but my MX2 ... no matter what the wifi sleep policy is set to, it always seems to lose wifi connectivity at some point. I also verified the battery was set to "performance". I swear I saw some hacks a while back to fix this but I must have been smoking something as I can't find them. Thanks much in advance.
Oddly enough, it seems the phone doesn't disconnect if it is connected to an open network. If I have security enabled the phone seems to completely disconnect and have to reconnect after you turn the phone back on. Although regardless the phone stops responding to ICMP traffic no matter what type of network it is on after a bit of having the screen off.
I have had this issue since the last update in oct. I have spoken with Verizon's tech(non)support 20 times and I'm on my 3rd X2 . With me not only does my wifi go to sleep but so does the cellside of the phone . I would receive a voicemail alert an hour after the phone didn't ring . Verizon's answer was to master reset the the phone which I did once for them(it's their answer to everything, any glitch whatsoever and they want you to reset your phone). Anyways I have since rooted the phone and now use their signal exclusivley during working hours(wifi hotspot). Thats seems to be the only answer to me using my phone online and it not going to sleep .
I'm running cm7 on my dx2. I have some wifi issues with it and am running wpa/wpa2 on my wifi. I started using wifi keeper running workarounds 1 and 2 and haven't seen as many issues, so maybe try that?

WIFI and Dialer mod/fix for CM7DX2!
For those of you having dialer or WIFI issues, go to: CM7DX2 WIFI and Dialer fix/mod (enable cron scheduler)! I have posted a mod to take care of the WIFI disconnects and the dialer lag issue.
Ciao!
So my issue is this:
If i do not have "wifi best performance" checked to "ON", i can watch my wifi settings screen go from On-scanning-connected-off-on-scanning etc about once every ten seconds. This persists until i turn off wifi manually, or check the best performance box. This has happened on three different routers; it has happened while set to 2.4ghz only, and even happened while i had a router locked to channel 6 only.
What the hell is going on, and how do i fix it? i know it's impacting my battery life to keep that turned on...
