Hey guys,
I installed launcher pro on my phone and use it as my preferred launcher. However, even when the settings under dock are checked, I don't get a number letting me know I have a new text message over the icon in the dock. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, have you found a solution or is this something the developer has to fix? Thanks for the help
+1
Just installed LP and the dock notifications are not working.
I've got LauncherPro (Plus) on my GS2 and the notification icon is working for the text messages. I don't use the missed phone or gmail notifications. I also changed my dock shortcuts to the stock shortcuts and stock icons. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I also use Handcent as my default messaging application and turn off notification bar notices for all but a few close contacts (daughter, hubby, etc.).
LPP is my default home app...
When I was using LPP (with custom icons), my notifications for all three stopped working after a while. I switched to Go Launcher EX with notifications, and they didn't work either. It's pretty damn annoying.
It was originally working for me as well. I read somewhere that Google had patched Gmail for security reasons but I forgot to disable updates on Gmail ... so I think when I did the mass app updates in Market that it broke it like it did last time on my HTC aria. I'm assuming we need the original apk now but I have a feeling we're screwed ... I don't want to revert to my cwm backup since I did so much tweaking since then but it may be the only way to get email notification to work again.

Okay I restored my stock rooted backup in cwm and almost immediately market tried downloading Gmail updates. I killed my data connection before it finished downloading and cleared market cache and data. I froze Gmail and started the market with data connection again ... so far I still have notification in Launcher Pro but who knows if there's a way to disable Gmail app updates in the future?

Just wondering is there any mod or for galaxy s3 which can make it behave like IOS like lockscreen notification.
Its really annoying in GS3 to unlock and then check the email or any other notification. Screen doesn't even light up whenever there is new email.
Any solutions? I am on AOKP build 4

The Samsung ROM lets you put an email shortcut on the lockscreen, this gets the bubble with the number on if there is any new emails. SMS pops up on its own, even wakes the screen. I don't know what AOKP is.
thanks, I know about the Stock feature.. but AOKP is lot smoother and bloatware free, really don't want to go back.
yeah i got a solution and a very simple fix. if you want IOS(crap un-needed features) GET A IPHONE! simple fix hope i helped LOL
ok ok fun time over download this app problem solved
Bloatware has nothing to do with aokp.
Aokp and -based roms are usually bloatware-free but you only need root to get rid of it on any rom.
There are literally tons of different lockscreens in the play store, just try them out.

Hello All,
I've been running Stock JB for a while and I just flashed houstonn's Carbon 4.3. It works great is very smooth and stable. However, It looks like the Email, Phone and SMS apps in Carbon do not have unread count / badge displayed in launcher or dock. The stock version's corresponding apps do display unread count as little red circle on the icons. I am not sure if this is because of the launcher or what. It appears that badge/unread count may not be available for any AOSP based ROMS? Please correct me if I am wrong.
Does any one know if ParanoidAndroid apps (or other ROMs) display badge/unread/missed count?
It looks like Apex Prime or Nova Prime launcher claim to have this feature, but I have not tried them yet. I want to check here first to see that the deal is if I want badge/unread/missed count on apps.
What are my options?
1. Does PA or any other rom support this?
2. New Launcher? Which one?
3. New E-mail/Phone/SMS apps? Which ones?
3. Some how obtain stock apks?
Thanks in advance for your help.
SV.
Nova Prime works well, had the Gmail count hang up a few times showing unread when there wasn't.
I use Nova prime and it seems to work fine for me.

What about stock e-mail app
Thanks for the input on Nova Prime. Looks like it works with Gmail fine. Any idea about stock/touchdown/Emoze? I have to use Exchange email.
Thanks again.
SV
Yeah it works with those too... AFAIK. I used em in the summer and it was working then.

Things I've tried so far
Just thought I'd update with what I found so far. Thanks for Nova recommendation.
1. Notifyer - sort of works, but very unreliable.
2. Nova Prime + TeslaUnread - Works with Stock Email/Phone/SMS/K9. Does NOT work with Emoze. Also, The bade doesn't really show "unread" count. It just shows the same count as the notification bar. If you clear the notification from the notification bar, the badge also disappears. This defeats the whole purpose of the "unread" badge for me. If I get 10 messages and I clear the notification but only read one message, the badge is gone!
Next up is Apex Paid and Apex Notifier. I'll also try Missed It (not really a "badge", but a widget).
Apex and Missed It
I've tried the latest version of Missed It. It does work, but with a couple of really big flaws. Problem 1: If I clear notifications from the status bar, the count is cleared from Missed It as well. Kind of pointless to have this app if all it does is mirror the notification bar. Problem 2: E-mail Count is wrong. I have more than one account configured in e-mail. I've tried multiple event settings set to all three different settings, but no dice. It appears that the stock e-mail app sends notifications with number of unread mails every time it gets a bunch of new e-mails. But it sends one notification per account. So count as single or multiple probably doesn't work since it sends only one notification if more than one new mails arrive at the same time. Count as value does not work since it sends one notification per account, so the last account notification overwrites previous. Count as value can work if it is additive. Note that Missed It is supposed to provide counts for Nova Prime, but I didn't bother with config since it does not work for me.
The last one that I've tried (and it worked) is Apex Pro. Don't know why I didn't try this first. Works right out of the box. Note that a companion app called Apex Notfiier must be installed. But is all seamless and works great with AOSP dialer, SMS, Calendar and E-Mail. On dialer, it clears the count if I clear the notification bar or open the dialer, which I think is ok. It does the proper thing for SMS, E-mail and Cal and retains the true count as report by the app. It is supposed to work with few other email clients including K9 but not with Whatsapp, facebook etc.
So, I stuck with Apex Pro ($4) in the end. Not sure why this is not native to Android since the badge/unread is very useful.
Hope this helps others.

On a different note, I couldn't find a decent email app that combines exchange 2010 + POP3/IMAP so I had to stick with Stock. Stock works fine, but limited in its user interface and tweakability. Be careful with Emoze as everything is routed through their servers in Israel.
Holo Launcher HD Plus supports this. Worked well when I tried it, but I keep some messages unread, so always seeing the red circles on my dark themes annoyed me. Lol

Hello all,
Longtime lurker, first time poster. I've passively used the forums for a long time, browsing tutorials, exploring apps, and increasing my general android and ROM knowledge. And now I have a problem I've so far been unable to solve. I wasn't sure if this should be posted in General, or in Q&A, but I chose the latter.
I'm a fan of HTC's aesthetics, despite their Sense UI (I'm a control-freak, and Sense allows no control). Up until last week I had a Wildfire S, running CyanogenMod 10.1. I now have a Desire X (yay!), only to find the versions of CyanogenMod available for the Desire X are all missing features that I consider deal breakers (no audio, no video, no audio recording, no video recording, no Bluetooth, and mainly no WiFi).
So now I'm trying to recreate that sweet, sweet Cyanogen feeling using readily available applications, which is where I hope y'all can help me.
This is what I've done/got so far:
Prep (from Recovery):
- Rooted the phone (obviously).
- Flashed CWM Recovery (Philz touch 5)
- Flashed SuperSU
- Flashed ROM Cleaner w/ customized NO-Sense_user.txt to remove as much of the Sense UI and HTC bloatware as possible
Flashed from ROM Cleaner, after cleanup:
- Nova Launcher Prime, replaces Rosie
- Stock Google Calendar, replaces HTC Calendar
- Stock Google Keyboard, replaces HTC Sense Input
- Stock KitKat Email, replaces HTC Mail
- Stock KitKat Gallery, replaces HTC Gallery
- 8sms, replaces HTC Messages
Installed from Nova Launcher:
- Chronus Pro, replaces lockscreen clock
- Clock JB+, replaces HTC World Clock
- exDialer PRO, replaces HTC Dialer + People
- WidgetLocker Lockscreen, replaces HTC Lockscreen
- Lotsa other stuff, unrelated to this post
So basically, I have everything that's visible replaced with either the stock, or close to stock application.
BUT, I'm unhappy with, and looking for a substitute for, two things:
- exDialer. It's an imperfect substitute for the stock phone dialer. I loved the Jelly Bean phone dialer, and I miss it dearly. KitKat phone dialer would also do nicely. Preferably something that has a nice integration with the stock Contacts app, or a similarly good contacts app. I don't actually mind the HTC People app so much, but if I have to give that up for a better phone dialer, I'll do that gladly.
- HTC Sense notification shade. The most major part I'm unhappy with. I really miss the Cyanogen notification shade and status bar. I miss the stock Jelly Bean (4.2+) status bar look (blue color, compact icons, and especially the circular battery meter), and I miss the full black notification shade w/ the power widgets bar. I've installed Power Toggles, which provides a pretty nice widgets bar, except that in order for it to stay at the top of the notification shade I need to keep an icon present in the status bar. I'm kind of a neat-freak w/ my status bar, so I want it as uncluttered as possible, meaning if a notification does appear there I notice it immediately. If need be I can live with the existing Sense notification shade, but I would love for the status bar to be Jelly Bean beautiful again.
Anybody have a solution to those two things (dialer and notification shade)?

I might have a solution for the shade, standby while testing...
My bad, doesn't work. I will share my lead though...
The notification shade code is contained in an app called SystemUI.apk. Turns out it's pretty set in the system. My idea was just to drop it in. It didn't work, and in order to make it work requires the replacement of so many components you might as well flash a new ROM. I have consolation though, it is entirely possible to make a Sense based version that looks like stock(modding resources). I recommend PM'ing xpirt or ckpv5 about this. Sorry I couldn't help

Thanks for trying! I kinda figured that the shade is somehow deeply rooted in the system. Out of all the things I've been looking into replacing, by far the hardest thing to find anything for is the shade. Well, that and the lockscreen I guess (so-called "replacement" lockscreens basically only work on top of the system one, never replacing it).
Would PM-ing those users be considered bad form on this forum, me being a first time user and all?

Haven't been here for long myself, but I don't think they'd mind. You might be able to request the skin in this thread if you don't want to PM them

Which rom cleaner did u flash? The desire hd v6?
I think Xpirt was making an AOSP theme which has long been stopped (i would continue it but don't really have a lot of time nor patience atm) you're best bet is third party apps and themes.

I used ROM Cleaner v3.6 for HTC One X, running the full NO_Sense options w/ some minor added removals.
There's no Desire X version, but the One X version ran like a charm.

I think I have a solution the 2 problems,
You can take a dialer app from the s2 CM 10 and try that one (kitkat doesn't work)
For the shade you can try to replace some files in systemui.apk with the one from the S2 or S2 plus in the res folder

Was super busy with the holidays and such, so haven't had a chance to look at the suggestions. And since a stable version of SuperSense 5 was released in the meantime I think I'm just gonna stick with that. Ran Rom Cleaner on it, and that's fixed most of my issues. Love it now. Nice dialer/contacts app, nice notification shade. Only the taskbar, but I can live with that..
