when i try and record audio (mp3s) with my streak the result comes out high pitched. the stock sound recorder quality isnt very good. I have been trying out mp3/wav recorders form the market.
it almost seems to be a sampling issue.....but the recorders bit rates are all set right.....cd quality, etc....
any ideas?..... is there something i need to change....?
also.....i installed cleartune......and to make it work right i had to make it transpose to D and set A=427Hz.....i installed another tuner called "datuner"....it works fine....
very frustrating cause im a band director and really need to record things on the fly.....but not high pitched.....?
Rehearsal Assitant - can't comment on using for high quality recordings, but works for voice for me.
cool....ty ...
tried it.....rehearsal assistant still uses a lower bitrate when recording. .wav recording doest work at all....it looks like it is recording but is not......and the files will close and crash the player...
i need a solution to record at high bitrates.
man.... i have tried i think every recording program on the market..... the only one that would record at 44.1k was "Livo Recorder"..... it will record .wavs that sound ok...but at 5-10 Mb/min.... .wavs are just way too big to use and email....
all the .mp3/other recorders would record but the files came out sounding like they were being played in a slow fast forward...
this is very frustrating..... is it the streak?....is it android 2.2?
i need this to work.... i need to record stuff all the time....and .3gp at 8k is not going to work for concert band recordings....the end result is too muddy sounding.....i dont record to keep...only for review... it is an essential aid when working my band
any ideas?.....and thank you for your help
Recordings are horrible!?!? Would love to find an anwser too
I have had the same issue and I would love to know what can be done. I have tried contacting the developers of various recording apps, but get no response from any???
im sure a lot of other streak cats and maybe some android users in general are having the same problem...
this is a real bummer for me actually.....this could be a serious deal buster for me...i may have to go back to my iphone i bought the streak as an upgrade to my jailbroken iphone 3gs.... iphone sucks but at least it does what it is supposed to do...and yes to make an iphone bearable you really should jailbreak it.....
i also had to root my streak to fix several other issues as well.....lol.... i had to "jail break" my streak....lol...
like the tuner issue im having....being a band director i NEED a tuner...it is a must have....i know i could just use a dedicated pocket tuner, but..... the point is that something is totally not working right in the streak or android....being able to record these days at CD quality should be a no-brainer to developers and/or hardware developers..... i was recording cd quality back in 2001 on my sx-66(the original XDA phone...) pocket pc phone....lol....
anyway,......any ideas?
anyone else having these issues?..... have you found something that works?
Maybe list the recorders you've already tried, so someone doesn't repeat. I've been using pcm recorder for voice recognition (naturallyspeaking), but of course that's only wav. Probably the difficulty lies in the licensing required for creating mp3's.
Would ogg recording do?
Hi Guys. I seriously looked into this question, but couldn't find the answer anywhere.
...
I was in a music festival in Latvia, called POSITIVUS, and I was photographing and filming the living hell out of this festival. Afterwards, I was watching the filmed material and the sound by filming the bands perform, was... one word - terrible. I was thinking - yeah, it was loud, so, no wonder. But then i saw the same band in practically the same footage filmed next to me, with my friends iPhone 4 and in his footage the sound was great. No noise, no speakers blasting horrible sounds.
...
SO, i was wondering... maybe someone knows how to limit the sound input in video recording so it wouldn't sound like the speakers are about to blow up.
...
Please dev's... could you look into this?
There's a hacked Camera App, try that...

DEV's I am hoping for your help... Please, Devs...
I have the same problem. I've recorded a live concert and the sounds are terrible. I'm sure it is possible to fix that.
For sound recording only, I'm using Hi-Q MP3 recorder. This app allows to control volume input levels. The result is much better.
If there was a way to link the Hi-Q recorder to the video app as the default audio then we would be one step closer.....
Any Solution for this ???????????/
I have the same problem? Anybody can help????/
Hello, new here. I wanted to get some suggestions on what to do for this situation.
I've been currently searching for a new phone & I've found it, the Amaze of course. I finished my research and found this to be the perfect phone for me, though there is one issue I want to know about.
The Audio Quality on this phone is down right terrible compared to many phones out there, & I don't understand if this is a software problem or a hardware problem.
I need to know if this issue can be or is already solved, because out of the many videos I've seen its the same issue with the Audio in the video, just sad for such a highend phone. Has anyone fixed this or is someone working on it? Thanks
Do you have a case on your phone? If you do then does it have the holes around the camera where the holes are?
I just recorded my daughters school play with ky phone and it sounds great. Then again I'm using a modded Camera.apk and using a Custom Rom. But the Quality of my recordings were nice.

I've noticed that audio is passable on normal recordings. I happen to be a race fan, and IndyCar and F1 sound terrible on this phone. They overpower the mic and the audio is clipped or something, becuase I get alot of loud scratchy noise. I'm on stock, BTW.
Thanks for replying
@Double0EK - I've still yet to buy the phone, I'm just making sure before I buy that it can be fixed. I heard that this issue could be resolved by using a Custom ROM, I wish I could post youtube links right away to show you what I mean. Its like a hollow super sensitive mic, its most noticeable when recording voice.
@oryan_dunn - That's similar but even then, just simple voice recording sounds bad to me. Every single video that I watch you can tell of the quality, since I can't post youtube links yet, if you happen to be on there you can search for video samples of peoples voice on it.
Here's a small portion of the video I recorded with my phone. I think it sounds great..but then again I came from a really early/crappy phone before I got the Amaze. So naturally everything is better for me.

@Double0EK - Aww, so cute, lol. Thank you very much for uploading that Yea I can tell that its much different, definitively sounds way much better. I guess I'll have to give it a go & root it right after.
I'm with the LG Optimus V, and even though the Evo 3D just came out for Virginmobile, I'm sick of their terrible service. I understand that its a prepaid, but service is just not good around in my area. T-Mobiles $30 Plan, 100minutes, unlimited texting and 5GB of data is very tempting, just needed to a phone to bring over. Thank you very much again.
i purchased this phone recently mainly because i wanted a good camera phone to bring to concert events. that way i wouldnt have to bring my camcorder. the video capture is great, however the audio was overwhelmed. i figured the 3 noise cancelling mics in the back would make sound recording good but that was not the case...
few examples:
damn i cant post links cause i dont have 10 posts yet...ill pm i guess
think i'm going to look into a modded camera.apk as well to see if i get better results
Guys,
Give lgcamera a whirl from the market. While it records in mono, the sound is much improved over the high gain HTC puts in their camcorder app. I'm on a Sensation but we suffer the same problem. With the lgcamera app you can set the audio to aac, 320kbs, 44.1khz. Sound is much better. If lgcamera doesn't do it for you try camera ICS from the market. Its basically the stock camera in the galaxy nexus.
Hope this helps.

You can hear that hissssssssss sometimes during the video that I cant stand. Its almost as if something is two loud for the video. Its always like that when recorded with stereo on. I personally always record in mono and it makes that sound go away
I was sitting next to one of the speakers so ya its kind of loud. I know what you mean tho. The mics are very sensitive.

I can tell you quite honestly, there are some audio situations(like someone mentioned races) that NO phone is going to record well, and someone suggested an app that you can choose audio settings - that sounds like the best idea.
I attached a screenshot, disable stereo audio, this HUGELY increases quality of audio.. but I'm sure with some light googling you could find an app that will help, or there may even be some build.prop tweaks out there..
But what I think trying to capture really loud sound is something you can't expect, this is a phone not a video camera(and most video cameras have the same issue).. but this phone has such a sensitive audio that really light sounds are picked up perfectly, crisp..
I guess my final thought - you're going to lose BIG time getting any other phone just because of this one thing - lower quality video, worse color capture(samsung!), loss of many features, speed, etc.. if you're willing to get what will be an inferior phone in SOME way just to get better audio, so be it.. but there is some work around I'm sure you could find with a little effort on your part.
so i downloaded and installed lgcamera... did a recording with stock camera app and then recorded the exact same stuff and me saying the exact same thing with lgcamera app. didnt hear much of a difference... THEN i decided to turn ''camcorder'' mode ON in lgcamera app and holy mother of GOD excellent audio!
Now i gotta tweak the video record settings for best quality on the video. (h.264 or mpeg4, also what quality settings and whatnot from there)
ALSO it would be nice to be able to launch lgcamera app from the dedicated video record button on the side of the phone. is there a way to do that?
also, does anyone want me to upload comparison audio videos showing you the difference between stock and the settings i chose?

I'm curious on the comparison video.. I just downloaded the app, really like it so far.. only issue is that I haven't found a video setting that works properly yet - what are all the video settings you're using? It will record SOMETHING.. but the screen freezes when I hit record, and it can't play whatever the output video is. I tried all the formats, multiple frames per second, different audio settings..
But definitely a nice app, once I get video working properly it will be my daily driver.
As for changing the camera button to that app, that may be pretty difficult.. it is something you have to change in the is, unless there's an app for that. I know tasker could do it.. but start Googling button remapper, and check the market.. I think I remember something that could do it.
edit: now when I press the key it automatically opens the app, I didn't change any settings.. so there must be some setting in the app for that perhaps? Otherwise, tasker will do the trick..
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
holding the camera key opens up lg camera so thats nice. but holding the dedicated video camera button still opens the stock video camera... curious.
Ill tell you my settings later when i upload the comparison video
seems there is a setback. lgcamera videos would playback choppy and super slow. tried to record with the stock app and the video came out the same way. did some research online, it seems sometimes LGcamera will corrupt and even mess up the stock camera forcing a factory reset to get everything working again. luckily my phone iso nly 2 days old so factory resetting isnt a pain for me.
ill see what i come up with afterwards

Try switching the scene mode to action or flowers. Flowers work best for me for consistent 30fps. Also make sure you test frame output in good lighting. Dim lighting will always have a lower recorded frame rate.
what i mean is when i plugged the camera back in to my computer and tried to play the videos on my computer, they would run at like 1/4th the speed and sometimes not play. after fcatory resetting it still did this. i restarted my computer and it fixed it. so maybe it was a playback issure on my comp vs the phone. i kept recording videos and plugging and unplugging my phone to my cmputer. i probably created a feedback loop or mucked up drivers or something. ill keep giving it a go.

And here it is.
I tested out stock camera stereo off, lg camera stereo on, and lg camera stereo off.
lgcamera stereo off is the exact sound quality we're looking for. It clearly works and sounds great! I sample them in my house and outside with fireworks going off to give you an idea how it will do with loud sounds and all that good stuff. check it out, i think you'll be pleasently surprised. ill be using lgcamera for my videos from here on out.
I saw no distinguishable difference in the 'quality' of the video between stock camera app and lgcamera at 20mb for video recording. (anything above 20 will not work as it will fail in recording. and when it does record when you watch it later the file will be corrupt)
settings are
video:
1920x1080
H.264
MPEG4
20Mbit (any higher will result in freezes and corrupt files)
30fps
Audio:
Camcorder
AAC
4800
32000
interesting

It won't work for me at that resolution, it just says video record failed, I have to use 1920x1088 or less than that. Also, I think you meant audio settings 48000 and 320000, but if you did.. it gets really choppy at that point. Lowering the settings much below that increases video quality, but then the sound is worse than stock video.
I'm thinking the audio quality of the stock video player is the highest it can be while still maintaining highest quality video, or at least that is what I gather from testing between the two. And besides, after doing the camera hack included in most current roms, the audio quality is MUCH better, which makes me think that the 40mb/s recording allows for better audio with stock.
Are you using the camera hack or a rom that has it included? If not, give it a try, I think it makes this camera app kind of a moot point.. if this app had more polish, and worked more consistently, maybe I would make the switch, but the stock app isn't bad by far, even less so with the camera mod.
Here is the settings that are used by the stock tmo camera app(from the modified media_profiles.xml in system/etc), if you are mainly trying to get better quality sound, that is the file you need to modify. If you are stock, but rooted.. find the mod, this is what it would look like:
<AudioEncoderCap name="aac" enabled="true"
minBitRate="8000" maxBitRate="96000"
minSampleRate="8000" maxSampleRate="48000"
minChannels="1" maxChannels="2" />
<AudioEncoderCap name="amrwb" enabled="true"
minBitRate="6600" maxBitRate="23050"
minSampleRate="16000" maxSampleRate="16000"
minChannels="1" maxChannels="1" />
<AudioEncoderCap name="amrnb" enabled="true"
minBitRate="5525" maxBitRate="12200"
minSampleRate="8000" maxSampleRate="8000"
minChannels="1" maxChannels="1" />
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Raise the minbitrate and minsamplerate to something higher, and raise the max if that isn't high enough for you.. if you don't want it to record in amrwb or amrnb format change those lines to enabled="false"
Makes more sense than using a 3rd party app that only sorta works I think..
Anyone else care about how bad some videos look when recorded on snapchat. I mean I tried snapchat on a Xperia U (Cant even tell what's going on) on a nexus s ( better but not acceptable), on a nexus 5 (Motion makes the video look very low quality) and a HTC one s (Looks almost normal but still some odd pixels) Tried on multiple Wi-Fi networks and settings on video quality set to standard. Anyone know of a fix? or why this happens? (I'm guessing compression problems)
Man, no one replied to this? I hate that snapchats video on Android is so terribly compressed. Sometimes you can't even make out what you're looking at. I really they can get the video quality on the same level as the iPhone. Anyone know why it's not up to par?
This is quite old but seeing as the problem still exists... bump
Hi everyone. I have owned the Tab S3 for several weeks now, and it's definitely a great tablet.
One thing I have not been able to do/confirm yet is playing HDR video.
I don't have an amazon prime video membership (I'm already paying enough for streaming services!), so that avenue is closed off. However, I've tried to follow the details this thread (intended for S8 phone users but also meant to work for the Tab S3) to get some HDR video playing, and as far as I can tell it's not working.
The S8 thread has some HDR videos that I've downloaded, and I've used the Samsung Video Library player app, but I don't get any confirmation that the videos are playing in HDR. Supposedly there's meant to be some "HDR" text that shows when the controls are visible and a HDR video is playing, but I get nothing. I've tried putting the videos in internal memory and on a (very fast) SD card, I've tried renaming the file extensions, I've tried changing the tablet display settings, I've tried downloading the video library app from the google play store and then the samsung app store... but as far as I know, the videos are not playing in HDR.
Part of the problem is probably the lack of Android video player apps that can play HDR, even the netflix app, which is pretty frustrating. But as far as I can tell, I should be able to play some HDR stuff with the instructions from the S8 thread.
Has anyone else been able to get this working? It's pretty frustrating having such a great screen and not being able to use it fully.
I can confirm your experiences on QF3 firmware. Files from the S8 thread works fine on S8 (and my LG E6 OLED tv). But no go on the Tab S3. Hopefully Samsung will enable it in a future firmware update...

On the Tab S3? Yes, the colors are washed out and plain wrong (worse than the same clip in SDR would be), which is normal when playing a 10bit or HDR file on a device without the proper codec/decoding capabilities.

That's interesting.
I have the BBC Planet Earth series on my tab and I thought the colors were great. These are 4K HDR episodes where one file is 14-15 gb.
But reading this thread has me wondering if I'm missing something...

Just noticed a thread in the android subreddit.
Supposedly there's a new update going out for the youtube app that is enabling S8 users to get HDR video playback. Hopefully the Tab S3 will get something similar!! Fingers crossed.

HDR Works. In Netflix it's conspicuous but you will notice easily in Daredevil church scenes then download 4k x265 HDR file of the same epsiode. I did this with punisher. Yep torr me did yesh. The initial episode where he burns the jacket and also the sandwich scene with the water tank in rear. Although I did note it seemed to be 1080p in Netflix.
The file played on Samsung player but audio was 7.0 so not supported. So I used MX player but note this doesn't seem to support HDR but I couldn't see the difference. If they haven't stated HDR support specifically for devices which have capable displays (google mobile HDR premium devices) then it isn't there. Only the Samsung gallery will activate the HDR display and the video app from Galaxy Apps won't.
Amazon is another story it works wonders and if you turn the volume up with physical key and with no controls or options but only clean video playing you will see it turn greenish instead of regular blue... You can minimise as it plays and see your home screen as the HDR of display is active. This is a hardware solution and with Amazon being a firm partner to us it will come as no surprise but we won't provide support for hdr10+ support fully atleast until 2019.
Netflix now is a software HDR that means it doesn't activate the HDR display but setting up cinema mode in display settings will do the trick but the volume turn green test won't work here. Only the video will be HDR and if you do anything that is UI interaction thus HDR is immediately disabled by the AMOLED CINEMA setting.
This is how all of this works. But hey, Dolby Vision is costly no wonder only the s8 competitor had it and not the note 8 one as that guy's screen is P-OLED and blotchy

Boy have I got an answer for y'all love this one...
Ok so MX player has H.265 10bits see attached pic. I had this Spiderman movie (see attached for details). So I figured finally this had to work. Now this Spiderman Homecoming is a HDR file.
Previously I used to use MX player with 1080p 10bit and 12bit files obviously 12bit didn't work works on pc but I didn't know back then you'd need a 12 bit display aka Dolby Vision compatible basically.
Back to it then...
So look at this scene of spiderman in SW and HW+ it's astonishing, the difference.
I have not seen such differences with 1080p 10bit display but back then I didn't have tab s3 so no wonder I was foolin myslef haha.
So when Tom Holland aka Peter Parker is removing his clothes you can cleary see the stark contrast. I set 100 brightness and AMOLED CINEMA because apparently Adaptive Mode is really bad and I keep reading ya gotta do this. HDR or not color modes are always working on anything. So true HDR COLOR doesn't mean you can't set color modes. But the Cinema one probably has the Industry standard for HDR gamut like DCP3 for Photoshop and such.
That's it folks, enjoy knowing you're making the best use of the gorgeous display but it gotta be h265 HDR so probably a mkv.
Also the Samsung player from galaxy apps couldn't play 5.1 or 7.1 AC3 and such audio so I had to go for MX thankfully now I found out it's all GOOD. But still Amazon I think does its on thing coz when you increase volume the bar turns green instead of the blue for HDR videos. ( Also attached)
I took the spidey pic on OnePlus 5 with HDR ON, attached that too.
Thus CONCLUSIVE!
A side note the Colors of a HDR video on a non compatible display will look worse than a normal SDR video which means yeah when you try to play a HDR file it will look that washed out which makes it worse so don't bother playing HDR videos on non HDR devices!
By the way 50 shades darker Unrated UHD HDR is such a treat but unfortunately my external hard disc gave up right before I was about to take a pic of Christian taking Ana on his shoulder to the swimming pool at the end of the movie.
That scene truly shows HDR capabilities on my TAB S3.
When they are on the stairs it's like I'm there too. The feeling ya know if you claustrophobic of darkness you'll feel it. Dolby Vision would be better I suppose but HDR is still felt just not ya know perfect so yeah.
I hope the hard disk works again I'm Leaving it untouched to a day.
It made a click sound but it also does then when you unplug the wire after unmount so pray for me thanks and enjoy... God damn it my whole 1.5 TB of HDR collection was on that!
Ok so I tried something it was a flop apparently screen grab doesn't capture HDR I used AZ screen recorder.
Anyways have a look but by pics you can see it's HDR.
I'll add another one taken from a camera.
That should show the difference but why doesn't XDA app let me upload videos always go to network error...
And no it's not my network problem!
p.s. the golden pic is how it looks fell in love with her all over again all were HDR shots on OnePlus tab brightness was 100 percent the exposure is different of phone camera that's why they look different
Here you are. Hope you're able to discern the difference.
Also just noticed in Samsung player when I did max battery save and player a HDR video since auto rotate is off when you click on the rotate there is a split second of washed out color.
This goes to show that HDR hardware of the Screen gets off when video is not playing it's like turning the HDR on and off in windows 10 display settings.
Suffice it to say 4k will not display in 4k but 1440p for local files though it does look sharper than a native 1440p file. Amazon prime video only goes up to 1080p and so does netflix because it supports only HD, SUPERHD AND 4K. I rest my HDR case Tab S3 SCREEN is better than my KU6470 TV!

Thank you. So basically this is an example of false advertisement by Samsung, because there is no true HDR on Netflix on Samsung's mobile devices. I have a Galaxy S9 and can confirm that. HDR videos on Netflix look dark and dull.
