For quite some time now my fascinate will not connect to the computer other than for charging (no mass storage, not showing up in device manager). I can't say how many times i've installed drivers, changed cords and computers, etc. Today it finally showed up in device manager for the first time in a long time but 'Samsung Android Composide ADB interface" and 'Android composite ADB interface" show errors. It says drivers are up to date (also I just downloaded them) but there is a code 10 error saying drivers won't load. Sorry if this is too similar to other topics but any help is appreciated. I've been dying to get to CM9. Running CM7 Kang with Glitch v13.1

just wipe data and flash cm9...no need to odin. alot of folks seems to be having usb issues with thier devices lately....could possibly need cleaned? Thats a common place for pocket lint and other debris to build up.
have you tried to update the drivers manually ?
you can choose a driver to install. Sometimes when it gets to a list of drivers and the hardware compatibility is checked it may only list one driver. If you un-check that it will give you more drivers to choose from.
If you cant find anything that works check to see if your phone is recognized in download mode.
and your sure you tried decent new cable ???
Thanks for the help. I tried your driver suggestion and it still doesn't connect. This is the fourth cable I've been on and still nothing. I can get into download mode but odin never recognizes the device. I did successfully flash CM9 though. So I guess I'm okay until I need to odin for some reason.
I'm having the same issue as well. Until the connection issue, I was thoroughly enjoying ICS connecting.......10X quicker than GB. I have 3 different cables, updated drivers, no yellow exclamation in device manager......and all my phone will do is charge via USB. No PC or phone changes at all, just stopped working. I'm on ICS with AOPK. Still trying different methods...
I think Droidstyle might be right. My dad couldn't get his fascinate to connect, so he took it to a Verizon store and they cleaned the port and it connected.

I tried giving it a little brush with a soft toothbrush and tried compressed air as well. No dice. Shouldn't I avoid taking it into verizon as they'll notice its clearly not stock (running aokp)? Or does that not really matter?
You should make a nandroid, then restore to stock. Make it look lived in, then take it to Verizon..
P.S. Sorry about taking a long time to respond, I am on vacation.
Without any computer connection at all how do I go about that?
And no worries. A late response is better than no response
Sent from my deviled aokp
Sorry. My brain must have still been on vacation... You might be able to disguise Superclean3 or TSM Resurrection as stock though, but make sure to use red CWM all and to flash the stock kernel immidiately after flashing.
I just tried the toothbrush method, dry at first. Then I attempted the toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol, no dice there either. Getting frustrated.....I need a beer!

Ok, just figured out mine was the USB hub the entire time. I have one built into my desk. I plugged the USB into my printer, and it connects. Hmmm, my stuff in this room went crazy during a bad storm a few weeks ago......guess it may have messed some stuff up.
Hope the OP finds his problem. Maybe try running the USB right into the back of your computer, instead of a wherever you have it running to now?

Please forgive me if I've missed a post somewhere, I've been searching for weeks for an answer to my problem and I still don't see one (similar cases, but either a-no answer or b-solution for another problem).
Computers:
A Windows 7 (32-bit) system and a Windows XP (32-bit) system.
Phone:
Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: T959UVJL5
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Nero.v3
Description of Problem:
When I plug my phone into either or my two computers the following occurs - My phone recognizes that it is plugged in and begins charging; my computers do nothing.
When I was on Android 2.1 I could plug my phone into either of my two systems and my PCs would respond appropriately (ie. show the drive letters and let me access the device once I mounted the device).
Since the very first Android 2.2 install my computers act like nothing is happening. ADB doesn't see my phone, Odin is silent, and Windows doesn't show any drive letters nor does it even show that I am plugging in a USB device.
I have tried to correct this by changing the USB settings on the phone (Kies, Media Player, Mass storage, Ask on connection) and even trying to connect while in debug mode. Sadly, I never made a nandroid backup to take me back to the Android 2.1 install (idiot me took the plunge before reading up on that section).
I don't understand what would cause my phone to be treated as if it wasn't there. I've tried different USB ports, different MicroUSB cables, and even uninstalling/reinstalling the various device drivers for the phone.
I can get into download mode just fine, but what's the point if Odin can't see the phone since Windows thinks that nothing is there? Before you ask, yes, I tried going into download mode before starting Odin as well as after starting Odin; debug mode on and debug mode off. I've been trying all the combinations.
If anybody has any information beyond what is in the stickies, I would greatly appreciate it!
Do you see "USB connected" in notification bar on the phone? You can also turn on USB debugging mode in USB settings. If you see "USB connect" in pull down notification bar..tap on that and it will mount on your computer.
I experienced similar problem with.axura tool...phone well charge but doesn't pop out the mount notification. I power off both my phone and computer and it work again. I'm sure this won't on your scenario but just wanna inform you that it's not all hopeless...good luck
Yes. I have seen the mount USB bar. Bad news: even after it says mounted, the PCs react as if nothing has happened.

First of all, read this forum (last post is mine) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925393 - make sure you have kies or kies mini installed so that you have the correct drivers on your computer for your vibrant.
secondly, team whiskey has developed a fix for the mount issue your experiencing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846384&highlight=mount+fix
they also have the mount problem fixed in the later nero roms... should not be an issue. please let me know if this helps!

Okay, so I've tried all of the above to no effect except for the latest Nero rom...
Looks like I'll be trying the latest Nero (thank goodness for Dropbox).
Nope. Updating to the latest Nero [v5] didn't work.

I think I'm going to have to throw it under a bus...
This same thing happened to me and to fix this problem all I did was install the drivers I got online, PM me your email and ill send you the drivers
I am almost certain that it is drivers issue more than your phone or any rom. You need to completely uninstall current drivers..all traces of em, reboot and install drivers from samsung website or there are some here in vibrant section also. It happened to me couple of times where one set of drivers stopped working for no reason and i had to try couple of different ones.
I had the same problem. Phone would charge but not connect. I solved it by getting a new usb cable. I just use the bad one for charging now

This is a driver problem. Your computer does not have the phone drivers and is confused on what to make of your phone so it finally decides that it is a charging device more or less and will not mount it, EVEN if you select mount from your phone options.
Please look on this forum or ask the guy who posted before for the Samsung USB drivers. Install them on your computer and then mounting the phone from the notification bar will work.
Hope that helps and feel free to ask again if you are stuck on the process.
I thought it was a driver issue as well until last week.
My coworker has the same model phone and is currently running 2.2.
He has his laptop (Windows XP) setup to handle his phone.
When he plugs his equipment in, everything works. When he plugs my phone in, same old story...
Even when trying different MicroUSB cables.
This is why I'm considering loading up a different/modified kernel.

was messing around in cwm and formatted boot among other things i'm sure, because my phone wasn't able to be recognized by my pc due to what I believe was debugging not working... tried onecosmics ics and my debug just malfuntioned? Now I'm stuck at the Vibrant screen and although I can get into download without a problem, no computers recognize it... therefor I cannot odin. No CWM no nothing... just vibrant boot or download mode. Phones a year old, absolutely loved it and i messed up bad... If anyone can help me get her up and running through odin I will donate something to ya lol... Have all drivers needed just wont recognize... Geez I just can't leave things alone haha
thanks for reading and replying in advance
Make sure you are plugging the USB on the back end of your computer, closer to the motherboard. I never had any luck with ODIN when plugging into the front USB ports; seems not enough power goes to those.
Try a different version of ODIN. The link is available in a sticky around here somewhere. If you're entering download mode, all is not lost. I would try to click Start on ODIN just in case.
Try using the Toolbox. It has all the drivers, pit/tar files and Odin too. I use it all the time. I agree, if you can get anything to even show up on your screen, you are not "hard" bricked. Just have to find that sweet spot.
Remember that you don't have to have Download showing up on your screen, just a yellow COM box in Odin. Sometimes people forget that and freak out but I know you said it (the computer) doesn't recognize. Is this bc you are not seeing any Mass Storage devices? Just keep trying to get that little yellow box.
Edit:: Try to keep one thread on the subject so that you aren't getting confused.
I agree with the comments above.I recall going into DL mode and just hooking up the phone to the pc and it wasn't recognizing it but I flashed the 512 pit and it worked without the COM.
Try a different USB cable
You can always use linux, that's an option at this moment
I'm sorry for making two threads, didn't want people coming into the last thread and answering an old issue... I'm gonna keep trying...
I guess my days with the Vibrant are sadly over, although I can get into download mode, tried 2 cables, 3 computers... Can't get anything recognized or ODIN to work period... I'm 16 days past my tmobile warranty for the phone and they refuse to help me... onecosmics rom was the biggest mistake I made. I lost the ability to debug because of it, which is now my downfall. Nothing gets recognized and I believe it wont because debug is broken...
AIO couldn't help me... I would have much rather bricked my phone essentially than this because I would at least know where I stood and knew a Jig may work, this issue I'm having is just false hope... There are no answers anywhere that have a happy ending in my case, just threads that get left without a true method or answer, I have looked. I don't know if a Jig would work for a device that can boot in download mode but can't get recognized? I don't know anything, I just know I wish wouldn't have tried that rom and then lose my cool because of it.
We root and change ROMs because we can. We make our ****s faster or slower if we wish, i could run porn ,the newiest movies, dl songs.there is nothing better than freedom my bro
How about reinstalling the drivers while phone is connected to PC with Odin running.
And what buttons are you using to get into CWM?
I am using the standard 3 button combo for CWM cant get past vibrant logo just resets and does it again... I tried everything with odin no dice... Lol, it's my own damn fault truthfully lol... I was irresponsible in CWM due to a bit of anger and this is the result. shouldnt have formatted everything and reset. Dumb dumb dumb... especially after I knew debug was broke and disabled...

I say blow your phone up
Have you tried the jiggy yet? Last time, I was messing around with CWM and other ported GB and things didn't go well to the point where I got no download screen at all - just black screen after power up. Download finger combos didn't work anymore. I thought I hard brick it and about to be real brick. Since jiggy was only around $5, so I thought why not and got it off ebay (something like this one). After I hooked it in, boom I get download mode. I was so glad and didn't bother going forward anymore. I just load back old stock eclair rom with all the files in it then reload froyo.
If you odin it before, I assume driver still good. If it still good, IMO, you shouldn't try new driver. If you install other drivers over it, you can't tell if good one still there. Do you have another vibrant phone that you can hook in just too see odin and driver works good (in recognizing the phone)? This is to isolate issue if limited to your pc/odin/driver or limited to your phone only. If odin can recognize another vibrant phone, then everything on your pc is good and just need to get your phone in download mode. If your pc can't recognize other vibrant or other galaxy s phone, then it's likely your driver messed up and just need to uninstall all the sgs driver and reinstall only the one that worked for you before all this mess. I'm saying other galaxy s, because my pc was able to recognize my sister Verizon Fascinate phone and I can odin through it with the samsung driver i installed for my vibrant.
Just idea...
Thanks, but I have tried a million drivers to no avail lol... It's the ICS rom I flashed... It disabled my debug mode (although it said it was enabled). I believe with debug off, your phone is not recognized by ODIN... I can get into download mode, the only thing I need the Jig to do is get debug to be enabled lol, and I don't think it can do that?...
You ought to find another member near you and see if they can look at it. Sometimes another set of eyes can make a difference. You could also try mobiletechvideos.com. They do JTAG repairs (unbrick phones).

Are you saying the "debug" inside the ICS rom? I don't think that matter, because I have ODINed mine to stock eclair rom before which has debug disabled by default if I remember correctly, then I just ODINed over other rom and it work...if that work, the debug setting shouldn't matter. Ok maybe driver...
If you strongly believe it is a driver, why not just try remove ALL samsung driver then start back with the one that work for you initially. Or use only driver from more trusted reliable site. Try one at a time. Or even reboot to safe mode and remove all the drivers. Don't install anything sparingly on your machines. Do you have another pc to try? Or have another friend with ODINed already installed w/ working samsung driver...so you reload eclair rom over it? You should have test it in VM or Virtualbox or Sandboxie.... If you can get into download mode, it should work...
Also make sure your machine is virus or spyware free. Spyware can affect other apps on your machine. If you haven't already have a good one, go to download.com and download Avast and Malwarebytes Antispyware. Then reboot into safe mode (F8), then scan virus and antispyware with both of the lattter programs. Anything it find, just delete them and keep scan until it finds 0 under safe mode. Then boot back normally and reinstall a good trusted samsung driver executable. That's what I would do if i were you.
This happened to me a while back onky thing different was my phone was working fine, but computer didnt recognize. Like others say COMPLETELY uninstall all samsung drivers, and I dont know if it will change anything for you but odin 1.7 and 1.1 didnt work for me but 1.3 was perfect, in other words try to get your hands on as many different odin files as possible, and if you have to heimdall has worked for me once before too

update to the ICS drivers, they are in the i9000 cm thread, also then connect your phone open odin with admin privileges, install usbdeview, run it in admin privileges and uninstall any driver that starts when you plug the phone in, then un plug and plug back in your phone, should work
Ok so I was previously running Hydr0g3n ICS ROM an older version and I had mount problems where only internal sd would mount, but it mounted at least. Occasionally I'd have to reboot my laptop because of no detection but that'd fix it.
Fast forward to a couple of days ago and I installed Resurrection Remix 04/05 but got really weird issues when connecting to my laptop e.g. installing device drivers, failing, usb sounds coming and going, device being recognised then disappearing again. Eventually no response. I reflashed, fully wiped, everything, experimented with drivers. Then plugged it into a mates (newer) laptop and it worked?
Back to mine, didn't work, installed Hydr0g3n ICS 05/05 which ran a lot smoother but still same issues, I repeated the steps above and even after device drivers actually successfully installed, it'd work and then next day no response or detection when plugging in USB. Since then I've gone through the drivers route again, trying all sorts of windows fixes, it still works fine when plugged into a newer laptop.
So after all my research etc I've realised that it seems to be some sort of power issue with the phone/ROM, perhaps the newer laptops have more USB hubs which aren't shared between many devices and so it works but mine is very intermittent if not non-existent. Oh, all other USB devices work, flash drives, external hard drives, I have never had any issues with any USB devices. Just this.
Also, I've tried toggling USB Debugging, and MTP UMS PTP, nothing. Read something about fast charge but have no notification that it's enabled on boot and no option to disable it in Kernel tweaks since I'm not on a supported kernel.
Hydr0g3n ICS ROM 2012 05 05 SGS2
3.0.29 Siyah v3.1.2
Any help would be much appreciated.
UPDATE:
I ordered a powered USB hub off eBay, it arrived today and did not work with the phone.
UPDATE 2:
So I recently stole my dads TouchPad and installed AOKP on it, my laptop detected it absolutely fine in MTP mode.
It uses the same cable so I figured, why not?
I plugged it in and hey presto, it popped up -_-
It's so strange the stock cable works on everyone elses laptops but mine, I don't know if it'll still work tomorrow though, I suppose if I don't re-comment then it still is working.
Bump?

just try 2 flash the latest siyah kernel and check
On Windows 7, after several USB connect-disconnect, I would experience Windows not responding to connection any more on that very USB port.
I usually have adb server running in background, so "Safely remove" feature is blocked, and I would simply remove after file operations are over.
I made a .bat file on desktop, that simply performs "adb kill-server", so that I can safely remove it, and have not experienced this problem since then.

I plug it in and literally it charges but absolutely nothing else happens. Anything else works in the same port, just not the phone for some reason.
USB problems basics .
USB port should be mainboard port .
Usb Port on phone multiple USB problem posts say clean port .
Kies or Samsung USB drivers should be installed with Kies not running .
USB cable try Samsung cable or another .

1) Yes they are all mainboard ports - No response.
2) Have cleaned USB ports on mainboard many times. This seems irrelevant too since all other devices are recognized.
3) Have also experimented with combinations of this. (All combinations) Nothing.
4) I have only tried the Samsung cable since it's all I have, and it works on all of my friends laptops.
Also, I plug it in, and it draws power (aka it charges) but nothing else. Not even a windows 'bong'. Even with the powered USB hub, it still only charges.
However the minute I plug it into a friends laptop it seems to work just fine.

goto device manager and uninstall the android devices you see there with the option "delete device drivers completely" and make a reboot.
now install the usb drivers and plug in the device.

This last point tells me there are possibly some registry settings on your computer that are keeping the drivers from loading properly.
I've never had to do this, so I don't know what to look for EXACTLY, but you may need to get a registry cleaner and try to eradicate all traces of Kies and Samsung drivers from your computer, then re-install either Kies (to get the drivers) or the stand-alone USB drivers.
I remember reading another post some time back about some other guy who actually totally re-installed Windows... which is a bit like using explosives to kill a mosquito, if you ask me.
However, try bala_gamer's suggestion first. That may be all that is needed.

So believe it or not I didn't actually go into detail in the op! But a few more things to note are that the device does not show up in device manager at all. Even with shadow device detection enabled. I have used all manner of driver software available to clear out all old usb drivers/any drivers which may be conflicting etc. I have also removed and reinstalled the usb host controllers and root hubs many times

Yes, indeed I also believed it to be some sort of registry problem, I have also used tune up utlities, registry mechanic and ccleaner (I think thats all there was!) and run registry scans/cleans/fixes/defrags. To no avail. I was actually considering reinstalling windows or something.

So far I have tried drivers from:
-Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5
-USB drivers for vibrant from samsung support site
-Drivers from samsung keyes
Side notes that might help: I was perviously using a Hellybean Rom. My device displays "Galaxy S gt-9000" on boot... not sure when that came to be but maybe some rom changed some important recognition stuff??...
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008383 but no help...

Try a different USB cable. This happens more than you'd think. Even cables that have worked just fine hundreds of times.
Also.... Locate the drivers in system/device manager and delete them manually and try to install them again. Unplug device and install fresh ones from either aio toolbox or Kies, then plug phone back in.
Best of luck!

Tried connecting the phone, getting the "unrecognized device" prompt, finding "unknown device" in device manager, right clicking to uninstall. rebooting my machine, using various install methods to re-install drivers, re-connecting, and nothing.. same issue...
I lost the original cable a while back, but can't accept that NONE of the other 5 cables used are all broke... specially if the computer recognizes something going on... is it worth buying a new one?
Losing hope here, been like this for 4 days now, think it's time to go get a new phone. :crying:
Even so, it would have been nice to get what was a perfectly working phone back if only to keep it as a mp3 payer.
If anybody in New York, NY has a working odin set up that can do this for me, I have a 6 pack of your favorite beer with your name on it.
It could be a hardbrick such as bootloader getting corrupted that happened to my Sony Xperia Play (now an expensive paper weight).
I assume you boot into download mode by holding the two volume buttons, then connect the cable? Have you tried on a different PC? It can also be the weak powered USB port on the PC. Also when you uninstall the Samsung driver, check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers. Also which version of the driver are you using, have you tried version Samsung USB Driver 1.5.3? And the drivers from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T959ZKATMB#
For what its worth, the gt i9000 screen appears after your on a custom GB boot loader and Odin back to stock (or probably Odin flashing any other ROM) you can change it by flashing the GB boot loader again. My phone says its a i9000 too, but I'm just about lazy enough to not bother changing it, lol.
So that's unrelated.

Ok, faith momentarily restored. But I have questions:
-What do you mean when you say "check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers"? I dont get such a prompt from right clicking on "unknown device" and selecting uninstall? Is there another method to uninstalling drivers?
-In the link attached, I can only find "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)" not the 1.5.3 version mentioned. What am i doing wrong here? currently searching google for the 1.5.3 but finding nothing.
I get into download mode by holding volume- up + power. Have 2 PCs ( win xp and win 7) and a mac running mountain lion (but never ever have been able to get Heimdall to work, so devoting time to odin.)
Thank you for the time + help, guys, I really do appreciate it in the time of utter un-nerdness.
If the device is already installed it will have a check box that said "Delete the driver software for this device." If its unknown then obviously not. By "uninstall any driver", I mean uninstall any Android drivers you current have installed and reboot before you reinstall the new driver.
Although I doubt it will make a difference than the one I linked above, you can try the Samsung driver version 1.5.3: http://www.mediafire.com/?r0uc3h413qcy80z
If you did manage to get into download mode and see this: http://images.google.com/search?num=10&hl=en&site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&q=download+mode
Then it mean there is a very good chance you can restore the phone, if you can find a computer to recognize it and Odin to see a COM port.
I definitely think it would be worth the money to go buy an OEM USB cord. I can't tell you how many times I have seen this and a new USB is the fix.

OK guys...
My friend, who also owns a Vibrant, let me borrow the cable that came with the phone for the last 2 days.
Tried to make ODIN work on both PCs at home, gave Heimdall a shot on my mac, even hijacked a computer at work for the better part of the morning and freshly installed USB drivers 1.5.3 before connecting. All for nothing... “Unknown device” across the board....
At first I felt that with being able to get into download and have SOME kind of a reaction from connecting to PC had to be a good sign. Almost completely convinced that there is some unknown, unworkable hardware problem present. Definitely, officially, unremarkably out of ideas here.
Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts.
Last thoughts? Options at this point?
Also, tried One-click Unbrick tool on mac. I got a "is your phone plugged in, is it on download mode?" error, but anyone reading this down the line with a similar problem should check it out.

After my last rebuild and root and flash to latest Beans build, I noticed when I tried to connect my phone to my laptop that it gave the dreaded "Does not recognize this device...." error on the phone and nothing came up on the laptop. Switched out a couple other cables, all good working. No luck.
I had recently rebuilt it as well with Win7Ultimate and thought I needed the drivers.
I went out and grabbed them from the root thread. No luck, even after a reboot.
Installed Samsung Kies. Went thru its troubleshooter, no luck still. Tried several other fixes as well, tethering check, usb debugging, etc. Nothing. Still reported the device having a problem installing properly, it would charge, but no access to the data.
I went to Devices and Printers and it was listed there as Samsung Android Device under Unrecognized Devices.
Right clicked on it, went to properties, went to the Driver properties and I saw it was listed as a driver by Jeremy Loper - that's the guy who made Casual if you didn't know. So its during the root and bootlocker unlocking process that his driver installs....so I clicked uninstall and checked the box to remove the driver software. When it was done, I unplugged the usb, plugged it right back in, Windows installed other drivers, boom, the storage comes up and I can get to my files.
I scoured around a bit and never saw anything for this fix for this problem - so figured I'd post here for everyone to have the fix avail as well.
*If this is the wrong area, no problem, sorry about that - I'd rather have this fix copied to the root/unlocker thread as a fix for this issue for others.*
Thanks for the heads up on this one. When I get back home I am going to test this out and report back.

I have a link to a video tutorial in my guide that addresses this issue.
