[Q] Off topic ReZound, on topic HTC - HTC Rezound

Just a quick question, my friend has a htc phone, he has the evo 4g.
Is the unlocking process the same on all htc phones. For example, does he just fastboot and find the long key like i would or will it be different. Any help appreciated. Hees new to android but know of all the things you can do with s-off and root. He wants to join into the fun and stuff. He is specifically asking for my help because he knows about the program that i made.

I haven't the slightest idea, but Id check the evo forums.

Essentially you are right, but remember HTC Dev is not preferred due to tracking potential and warranty worries. If you're going S-off these methods vary phone by phone, and some phones do not even need Dev Unlock to accomplish this. Research each HTC phone's forum.
Assuming you specifically mean the ol' EVO, not the new LTE, you can use Revolutionary:

[Q] Possible s-off??

I was browsing the web today and I found this link talking about s-off on the Amaze 4g and other HTC devices, but because I'm a new member I can't post it but it was on redmondpie.com and then type s-off amaze in the search bar.
I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this info and maybe tried it cuz I know everyone's trying to gain s-off so that more ROMs can start being developed for this phone,
There is no S-Off. RedmondPie talks about HTCDev's website and they talk about a program made by an XDA member. Amaze can't achieve S-Off right now.
Out of curiosity, what kinds of things leads to s-off? The release of certain files or stuff like finding a needle in a haystack like iphones jailbreaks
Ok thanks, I was just wondering and thought it might help

So, you want us to do all of the searching for you??? Man, you are asking alot here.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

You're risking that you brick your phone.
Also, I wouldn't suggest rooting if you don't even know some of the benefits of rooting. If you aren't technically inclined enough to have a reason to want to root, don't root. You're bound to mess something up.

If you're interested in gaining a general base on root, I have a free educational application in the market called "All About Root". It will provide general details to explain terminology, pros/cons, common methods as well as some technical details around setuid/setgid and Linux based permissions.
After gaining a general foundation, it will be easier to learn more specifically about the EVO 3D. This HTC device is more difficult to gain root access on than many other Android devices. With this is mind, the process *can* be safe and easy, BUT for a beginner without a technological/Android/Linux background, it can be very difficult.
Either way, there is no *easy* way to learn as the learning process is different for everybody. Almost can guarantee a lot of reading will be involved with the EVO 3D.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Thank you for app i will read its contnent, and sorry for the wrong section, and i have rooted my old Desire Z with gfree, so i am not a total noob, but my emmc died so yeah.

Good to see a helping hand in here
If a lot of people are not aware.. in the UK there is a very cheap sale for HTC EVO 3D's on the go at present (£229 for a decent sim unlocked phone, which is pretty darn cheap here), so this section is likely to get a lot of new comer's asking questions. Probably better to welcome them than shout at them
i am going to install that app lol. I just want to read what you have written about rooting, and see if it matches what i know
i read the app and as i understand if your hands are growing from the right place there is no riskx but are there problems with this particular phone? and how hard is to unroot for warranty purposes?

Help? I'm a total noob .-.

Hellow dudes and dudas , , i really need ur help because i'm a total noob,
first, what is GSM and CDMA
second, how can i root my htc evo 3d? , like i tryed the think here in the site, but when i call the ##3282# or soo, here in angola don't work :C,
so i saw the other one with the s-of and root from revolutionary.io but my hboot is 1.53.0007 D: and i can't root
can you guys help me? plzz ?
GSM means the phone uses a sim card and CDMA doesn't. Sprint and Verizon are CDMA. Look at the stickies in either the CDMA or GSM Android Development whichever you are. There you will find how to root your phone.

I'm really new to this too - I'm no expert.
To expand on Kevin130's info, GSM and CDMA are basically different mobile network types. They are not compatible so a phone is either gsm or cdma. In terms of where you are, I'd guess you're on GSM. Have a look at Wikipedia below, if you're with either of the listed Operators you are on a GSM network and have a GSM phone.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_the_Middle_East_and_Africa#Angola
I've had a big fail and success at rooting my phone. I would strongly recommend that before you try again, read as much as you can on xda or other android forum sites about rooting phones. It's really worthwhile to understand as much as you can about it before trying. Although it's quite hard to wreck your phone by doing something wrong, it can still cause you a lot of pain to try and fix problems you don't understand.
For some entry info on rooting android, google 'beginners guide rooting android'
Also search for thread here using keywords like 'guide' 'root' 'evo 3d' - I think you are better off following guides specific to HTC Evo 3Ds.
Also search for guides or threads or any tips relating to your HBOOT version. One thing I've learned is that pretty much each HBOOT version requires different steps to unlock/root.
Read the whole guide and comments before you start. The first time i tried rooting a phone I jumped straight in and almost broke it. If I'd just read more I would have saved hours or days trying to undo things.
As I said I'm really new at this, so that is really all I can provide by way of help.
Good luck and hope you have fun with it.
cheers
If you reboot into the bootloader (put the phone off, pull battery, replace battery, hold volume down + power untill bootloader shows) you can see if you are gsm or cdma.
It will say 'shooter' or 'shooteru'
shooter is cdma, shooteru is gsm.

[Q] rooting process for incredible 4g

i haven't rooted a phone since my old incredible, but now i was thinking about rooting my htc incredible 4g. have a few questions revolving around this process in general.
1. does the HTC dev unboot work for the incredible 4g?
3. is there anything special i need to do beforehand? factory reset?
5.does Bluetooth work for CM10.1 work? are there any significant issues?
thanks for any help!!
All your answers are in these forums but where they are not is in this thread, let me try to explain and answer your question with answers, OK.
HTC Dev unboot is in no relation to HTC Dev unlock but if the monkey has been spanked then you can try to flash him over. Now if the monkey in question is albino then yes HTC Dev unboot will not work.
Bluetooth had been known to be disobedient and carry a grudge against the cookie monster. So your answer cookie monster.
You should always do things before factory reset or rooting your phone like
Via adb you must sideload a wanker and judge him from there, this should get the blind heretics to believe that it has superuser permission. The firmware you use should be free of any viruses or termites to avoid getting CPU rot keep that in mind when choosing which firmware to flash. Flashing should also be done at night to avoid disobedience from the day gods who hate herpes which will have no effect on the outcome of your wifes pregnancy test but still... It's just good practice.
I hope I answered all your questions before the mod deletes this.

Actual Help finding a ROM, (Sprint HTC 4G)

Hello, Some poor soul posted (BELOW) this YEARS ago, and never got any help (other than the single, typical, 'go search' 'reply', NOT MUCH HELP when you DON'T KNOW THE FILE-NAME)
I'll just repeat what he said, it's the same thing i'm looking for. I just want 1080p video record on the device, I don't have time to learn another new technical speciality... I can only use official ROMS, None of the half-baked, home-brewed partial ROMS that come with lists of hands in the air, (i didn't do it) warnings of problems and bricking no thanks,.. (right?)
I don't know what 'S-OFF' means and it could takes months to find out here as the simplest of questions can go YEARS w/ no decent attention, I've never seen a forum like this one, One guy actually has 'I WILL IGNORE STUPID QUESTIONS' as his SIGNATURE.... There are no Stupid questions, only stupid Punks who hoarde info because the info TIDBIT (Small as it is, like their EGO...),, its the only thing they have to Feel Important...
I'm hoping this can be a simple double click, wait and done. It is an old phone I took apart, replaced half the innards and screen and now it works, it would be whatever original stuff it came with, I don't need any data on it...
THE POOR SOULS UN-ANSWERED REQUEST:
"Hi all. I'm new to xda. I have been trying to manually update my HTC EVO 4G LTE to Android 4.3, however HTC is no longer hosting the files. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could download HTC's software update?
It used to be here tinyurl.com/n279mpk
The link would download a 866MB executable. Thank you for any advice.."
As you can CLEARLY see, HE DOES NOT KNOW the name of the file, SO being told to Search is useless, NOTHING is EVER Explained Here,.. I find it PATHETIC that this community let that question lapse for YEARS with that single RESPONSE, SHAME ON YOU. HANG YOUR SELFISH HEADS IN SHAME. How is he, or Me or Anyone New, to EVEN KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE:
"SPRINT HTC EVO 4G LTE ANDROID DEVELOPMENT" Category, and the:
"SPRINT HTC EVO 4G LTE ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT" Category.... All Greek to anyone not ALREADY IN THE KNOW, HENCE THE QUESTION 2 YEARS AGO.....
So The NON-ORIGINAL category is What? New Ones? and the ORIGINAL category is for Original Copies of Official HTC Releases? OR Perhaps ORIGINAL, Means not ORIGINAL, BUT NEW? OR,... I certainly don't see any CLUES in the categories:
InsertCoin Sense, JEWEL CyanogenMod 12.1, PAC-ROM LP-MR1 Beta3 Weeklies,
NONE OF THIS SAYS:
HTC 4G 4.3 Approved APk 866MB executable formerly hosted at tinyurl.com/n279mpk (OR WHATEVER...) AND NEITHER SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD HAVE A LINK TO ANYTHING OFFICIAL!??!
SO WHY SEND SOMEONE BLINDLY TO "SEARCH" YOU THINK HE WASN'T SEARCHING ALREADY?
THIS PLACE MAN, THIS PLACE.... YOUNG INSECURE MALES HOARDING INFO BECAUSE IT BOLSTERS THEIR WEANING EGO AND NO OTHER REASON.
I NEVER SEE ANYONE GET ANY HELP HERE SO WHAT THE HELL IS THE DAMN POINT?
If there is a GOOD, Android 4.3+ UPDATE FOR STANDARD SPRINT HTC 4G, (NOT USED AS A PHONE, ONLY A TELESCOPE AND MICROSCOPE EYEPIECE CAMERA) That doesn't have strange 'rooting' (?) or S-OFF (?) Requirements then PLEASE, Let Me and the next 100 People to come here, KNOW !
Check out my HTC EVO 4G LTE Hboot guide in my signature. It has a lot of good info contained in it.
As far as updating to Android 4.3, there is a RUU available to do so. You can find it in the aforementioned Hboot guide, along with instructions on how to install it. The instructions can be found in the RUU section of my Hboot guide. The RUU is from HTC and does not require S-off or a rooted device.

Thanks! GOT IT! Thanks!
Glad to help.
Were there any other questions about definitions or specific help with the HTC Evo 4G LTE (Jewel)?
I'd be happy to help. Anything from "What is a ROM?" to "How can I post a patch to gerrit?" I have written a couple of guides in the past, and I have done work to make custom ROMs easier to build for this device (hopefully "answering" many questions for you).
Feel free to post here, in the different ROM forums, or message me.
