Okay, no need to explain, just look at the attached pic
Normally we have a Caller, a Contacts, a Message, and a Applications on the bottom of the screen, but now the Message is missing, there are only 3 !
I just said missing because it's still working if I browse to the Message directly, this error happened when I replace my mms.apk with another, in the system/app because the old one broekke down, since then the icon is missing, does anyone know how to fix it ?

But u even don't have the icon in app drawer? (which u have open on pic)
If yes, hold the icon an drag and drop it in bottom to the other 3 icons.
(sorry if listening like for noobs but maybe misnderstood ur prob)
If the prob is really that u replace the file and then the icon nowhere is shown, then reflash rom (even without wipe), this will replace the system apps again and u should have the standard one back.
CHEERS
Open the app drawer, menu > edit, drag the messaging app to the bottom bar.
IT WORKS ! IM SUCH RETARD, THANKS ALL !

Yep, it works but now the Message icon is back in the bottom bar but it is dissapeared in the application icon's.
Anyone an idea?

In the TouchWiz launcher, it will only be either in the dock, or in the Applications. Not both. The dock remains visible when you have your app drawer open. Do you REALLY need it in both places?

I upgraded to rooted Froyo 2.2 the other day (KaosFroyo). It has that dock on the bottom main home screen. 3 icons, phone, app drawer and used to be browser icon but not mysteriously developer icon instead. I do not know how to change it back to the browser icon. Please explain
I never use the dock bar since I go for a clean look (I even have a transparent app drawer tab) but you should be able to just drag the browser icon from the app drawer and hold it over the spot you want and drop it. Should stick. Hope this helps.
Press and hold the icon. You will get a text box with options to change icon. Pick new application then default icon.

Actually, that's the solution for LauncherPro, but the original description sounds more like ADW.
In ADW, you drag icons to the spot in the dock where you want the icon to be. Just drag it over the one you want to replace and drop it and that should take care of it - if you are, in fact, using the ADW launcher.
Hey,
On the bottom of my home screen there is the LG home shortcuts, Phone, Messaging, Contacts, App Drawer and E-Mail. The thing is, the order seems to be a bit weird on mine and I want to change it and if possible remove E-Mail and put in Internet. Is there anyway to do this?
Thanks,
Andrew

Hold your email icon then drag it to bin. Then go to menu find Internet but mine named Browser, hold the icon then drag it to the space that you just removed earlier

I'm not talking about just a normal shortcut on the home screen, I'm talking about the icons at the bottom, long clicking on them doesn't do anything for me.
it is not possible in the normal luncher of the optimus.
i use pro lunch as my luncher and you can put any icon and give it any action that you want.
futuremore there are more advances to this luncher. for example long press on the home botton wiill let you choose between all homescreens.
good luck
it is possible to change every icon on lg home dock bar.
just move the icon you want to put in the dock bar at the bottom most part of the screen where the icon would suit if it were in the dock bar and it will replace the previous icon.
I'll post a screen shot for proof.

Perfect, seems like a stupid way to do it, but it works!
I just switched to ADW ex and I love it... no lag, nice features, however when I get a text message and press the messaging icon sometimes I have to press it 2 or 3 times before anything happens. This is not an issue of the screen not registering a press since the icon lights up when I press it, but nothing else happens after that about 1 out of 10 times.
Also, even though its checked in the options, I get no little red "1" on the icon when I have an unread text. Not sure if others are seeing these issues on the note.

are you talking about the message icon on your dock or homescreen?
Make sure there is an app associated with the icon. If the icon is on your dock....double tap the icon and go to edit. If it is on your homescreen, long press icon and then go to edit.
On the pop up make sure there is a program associated with the icon...like mine says GO SMS Pro in the gray box next to the icon. If there is nothing, then you have no app there. So then just tap the gray box and choose applications and then your messaging app.
make sense?

I was having this same problem, delete your messaging shortcut and recreate it, it seemed to fix the issue for me.

No need to delete. Just long press edit and assign application. You can even change the icon.

Yes you do need to delete. When editing it it shows the right information, but doesnt work, recreating it seems to make it work correctly, atleast for me.
I tried editing it like you said first, it was correct. But i'm a noob so maybe i wasnt looking at it right

OK, as long as it worked good for you that's what counts
welp, good call on delete and recreate. that worked great.
It was just really strange how it would work only part of the time. now its 100%.
I dont know what happen. I woke up one morning and the contact icon on the bottom of the home screen is gone. I usualy have four icons there. Phone contact messaging and application. But now i only have three. I still could see contact icon inside application. how do i fix it?
Open application drawer, menu, edit, long press the relevant icon and put it back? Or similar, I forget the exact order of things in TW.
how do i do that? im running on stock ics. I didnt root
I just told you? What's unclear and why are you going on about root?
In the 'Phone contact messaging and application', click on the application icon.
press the 'menu/options' button - this is the left of the 3 buttons at the bottom of the phone. this will pop-up a menu. Select 'Edit' from this menu.
You can now move all the icons about. You can move icons from page to page and also from the page to the 'Phone contact messaging and application'.
Once you have changed it to the way you want it, select the 'menu/options' button and select Save.
This has been already answered, but I thought I would make it a bit clearer. There is no requirement to root the phone for this as it is a standard feature of Android.

Hi all newbie here and did a few searches and tried to look for help but could not find right info, also I hope I am in the right spot to post so please feel free to tell me if I am not in the right place. Currently running ICS 4.0.4 up-to-date at time of writing on Vodafone Australia but I don't think the country of service provider is the problem. I have a problem with my 'Home Screen Dock' NOT THE 'Lock Screen Dock' I can change icons on the lock screens no problems, All the help, forums and videos on changing the 'Home Screen Dock' Icons say to simply drag, drop[ and replace. All i wanted to do is change the stock "Internet" Icon with Chrome. Dragged the internet icon of and went to drag the Chrome one on but I can't as instead of the dock staying visible like on some videos it changes to the Delete Icon option. Cant find settings please help. Also I do not want to use a 3rd party launcher. I tried Apex and do like it but I use widgets and can't use widgets as my phone is not rooted. Please help arrrgghhh. Thanks in advance.
PS . I just have a blankspot where my internet Icon use to be.
Go into your app drawer.

Drag the Chrome icon down to the dock.

Thanks for your reply but I have tried that...the dock area only changes to for different Icon that you can drag your chosen icon onto in order to perform a function. these are from left to right "Create Folder" "New Page" "File Info" & "Delete"
Have you tried to hold on the Chrome Icon in the App drawer and put it on the home screen, THEN drag it to the empty space on the dock?

Yes I have and I get then get the same options expect it has text with each one i.e. *Icon with text"Create Folder" * *Icon with text "New Page"* etc
Has to be a step you are missing. I just tried it and it's working fine.

THanks for your help.... OK so here is what I do.
1) Unlock -> touch App Draw Icon. (Icon that says Apps with 16 little white squares)then I am on my last page/screen where I have a lonesome Chrome Icon.
2)Then I touch the Menu button (the glowing white button left of the physical home button).
3)Touch Edit (from the pop up menu *Edit with the pencil icon next to it)
4)The Page now has <::: Edit |Cancel|Save along the top of the screen under the notification bar. and no dock or anything at the bottom except for 6 . . . . . . white dots which represent my 6 screens.
5) Touch the Chrome Icon and drag downwards, but as soon as I press and hold the icon to drag at the bottom of the screen 4 icons appear that represent the function I described in my previous reply.
Please tell me I did something wrong. It should be so easy. Thanks btw.
1. Click on the App Drawer Icon
2. Press and hold on the Chrome Icon (that will move it to your desktop)
3. Now find it on your homescreen and press and hold it and drag it down to the empty space on the dock.
That's all there is to it.

Have you found the solution?
Hi,
I'm having the same problem, I was wondering if you've found the solution.
Also, since recently I'm having chrging problems with my S3 - sometimes it will charge, sometimes not - USB or Wall charger.
I tend to think these problems were introduced with latest software update.
I did factory reset, but problems still there.
Cheers.

TouchWiz used to allow me to follow the earlier procedure (it's how I docked "Maps" icon). This was back when I could also just drag and drop icons on the pages at will.
However there was an update from my telco (Telstra) and after that TouchWiz (as version 4.0.4) no longer allows changing of the bottom 'docked' row of icons. Even dragging and dropping icons generally is disabled it now requires use of the context menu to select "Edit page", first. The problem with that approach is that edit mode hides the dock row and replaces it with the icons "Create folder | Create page | App info | Delete". See attached screenshot.
So now I'm stuck with the useless blue-globe icon forever showing on my page, instead of being able to replace it with the very useful Chrome icon. Maybe Samsung did it accidentally (are they even the ones that develop TouchWiz?).
PS: If Micro$oft blocked the use of an alternate browsers, there would be loud screams of monopoly and anti-trust...
i to am also having the same problems, i am running stock Samsung Jelly Bean OS with a touchwiz home version 4.1.1. hope someone can find a way to fix this and to get our freedom back in it

Apparently this problem only effects Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
I found this solution:
you need to have root access (which is available on the xda forums)
you can unlock the dock icon edit function by going to /system/csc/other.xml and find
<CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode> TRUE</CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode>
Tried it using ex file explorer editor but nothing happened, restarted the device and the setting had reverted back to its original state, might have to do an adb push but the adb version I have installed is apparently outdated (keeps telling me the device is offline) so I'd need to update adb first
If anyone can give it a try to see if it actually works on rooted 4.2.2 with stock touchwiz, it would be really appreciated
