[Q] [Help] Root Explorer and Root Manager not working - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked around the boards and haven't found someone with this problem yet, and if I am in a wrong form I apologise, new at posting.
Ok here's the problem: On my Xperia Play which is rooted I am trying to install the walkman music player via this tutorial on xperia gamer: (new user can't submit url, so look it up if curious or relevant)
I am trying to move the apk from my sd card to /System/App and it looks like it pasted it, however there is no trace of the file, and if I move instead of copy there is no trace in the source folder either.
When I try and change permissions in the apk it always reverts back as well.
In superuser both file browsers are in the logs and if I remove their SU privileges they ask for them again.
This happens the same way in both file browsers so I'm not sure what to make of this.
Ideas anyone?

This is probably a common problem. This happens due to superuser app. Try installing supersu by chainfire and see whether the problem persists our not.
If the problem persists reinstall busybox
Before following all the above steps you can simply try updating the superuser app
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA

Ok it appeared to be a problem with my busybox install. Everything working perfectly now. Thanks for the help!

ok I recently had to restore my kernel and rom, and this problem now exists again. Updated busybox, Installed Supersu and various different root browsers. Problem Still persists. Anyone have an Idea?

[Solved] com.google.process.gapps error

if any have you experiencing
com.google.process.gapps force close error
i have found the way to resolve it
i have attached apps copy them to sdcard and to system/app folder using 644 permissions use root explorer (root required)
and reboot
market, sync, youtube, and many more problems are solved
I was having this issue.. but after a reflash from SEUS it was sorted..
your way sounds much easier.. I had to re-install all my apps again.. root the phone.. delete horrible SE apps etc etc.. took fricken hours! (just because that error seemed to be stopping Market working Grrrrrrrrr!!)
any idea what this gapps app is and what it does? I don't remember deleting it (I generally just get rid of games, user guides etc.. safe stuff, so I was really confused when the error suddenly started popping up)
Cheers for the file tho (I have a copy safely stashed away now for next time!)
the problem i have found is that deleting googleapp.apk and google settings provider. when you do this all other google related apk's malfunction that's where the error comes up

The easiest way around this is (to install a file manager without market).. either use a laptop with BT or find a friend with a bluetooth capable phone and a file manager like astro, stick the file on the laptop/their phone and send it to your phone over BT, once its copied across go to the task bar and select the file and install it. couldn't be easier..
Google talk missing mate ..cud u link me to the apk or upload it?
Thanks
I recommend you not to touch any google.apk's, you can delete googlesearch.apk, enhancedgooglesearch.apk and search.apk, rest of .apk's that have google in its name leave it alone. Also, Setupwizard (or whatever its called (Setup wiz that starts when you first boot your phone or change sim card) is closely related to google.apks and market login, so i recommend you to leave it alone to.
When i deleted it, i was unable to log on my market (when i start marked i only get force close error and my market crashes and i was unable to login to my google acc to do the synh.
Thanks a lot, i wasn't able to copy them directly to the specified folder (i don't have root explorer), but copying the apk to SD and installing them from there seems to solve the error.

for setup wizard, I have deleted it and I can access market without problem.
but, I do sign in into market first before I delete it.
I copied the files to SD and then I installed every single one of them... It worked!
But only to remove the FC message... Still couldnt use Marked... So I reflashed it and recovered with Titanium... 15 mins and I was up n running again...
Thanks dude!!! After days of searching for a solution I downloaded and copied to system\app your pack and it worked.
Now I wonder why these android phones start doing funny things when you try to delete the Google stuff. Maybe that "don't be evil" policy is a thing of the past.
Hi , I downloaded the apps.rar to my phone but it can't extract or install..
it claims the file is empty , even though the filesize says 1,95 MB. Very strange..
I get the com.google.process.gapps error when opening Gmail app.
anyone?

YES! com.google.process.gapps SOLVED!
@ The Andropirate... You sir are my new hero for the day anyway! I rooted my phone and my buddies and had this horrid error and market freeze for a couple days now with all kinds of bogus advice on how to fix it.
This IS how to fix the problem!
One thing that was not clear to me was copying the files in root explorer which I did do but it didn't seem to make a difference so I installed the files through root explorer from the SD card and that worked. I then simply installed the files from my friends SD card on his phone without the copy process and that worked. I do not think there is a need to copy the files to system/app. Simply extract to SD and install from there through root explorer.
This fix worked on Alcatel PT-980a and a Motorola Citrus
Im a bit of a n00b and when i rooted my x10 mini i went crazy uninstalling everything. Big thanks! I just copied all the apps to my sd card and installed them using root explorer. All fine now after many panicky hours!
By the way.... if you dont have any apps you need and you have this problem, download them from 4shared.com (when searching type the app name all one word followed by .apk e.g. rootexplorer.apk) and transfer to sd card... easy!
Acer A1 running 2.1
I have an Acer S100 A1 running official Eclair 2.1
Made a factory reset thinking that it would solve this gapps problem...
But no, it still pops up each time after I reboot and market is not working...
No file manager comes with the phone...
I cannot find a way to install the google apps in the first post...
Anyone, please
Victor
Is there any possibility to install these apps via recovery? Via .zip or adb?

Answer to SU problems on CM7???

I just saw this on the XDA home page. Its a new super user app. As we know, the SU app on CM7 is a little buggy and doesnt always give super user permissions. Maybe this app will work better for us. Im going to be trying it out soon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
UPDATE: So I installed it and tested all my root apps. Seems to work well. I will give it a day or two and see if I have any of the apps fail to get root permissions. If this works and fixes the SU problems we have, then this is a great thing for us CM7 users.

Since I am very familiar with ADB and the command line, I tore apart the apk in the linked thread OP to make sure I understood what was happening during the install. I moved the original su binary and Superuser.apk to my emmc (internal memory card), manually pushed the new files out to my phone, and then rebooted.
Once CM7DX2 came all the way up, I started doing some testing and noticed the the original Superuser APK was still showing up in my app drawer. If DOESN'T appear to be conflicting with the new SuperSU APK, but I'm not sure. I have had a few times of the SuperSU app stop responding and asking to either force close or wait. After hitting wait a few times, I ended up just FCing the app.
Once everything smoothed out, the SuperSU seems to have worked, bu, I was still receiving "not responding" messages from the SuperSU app when apps were asking for Root access.
I am going to also cross-post this to the linked OP thread and see if Chainfire wants more digging into this.
Also, as a side note, I think the reason the CM7DX2 Superuser APK was still appearing is that it MAY be installed as part of 2nd-init. I'm not 100% sure about this.
So, in conclusion, for CM7DX2, I think this needs more digging in to and I will offer to work with Chainfire to see what we can do.
Ciao!

Thanks Moon Shadow. The only time I had it hang on "asking for root access" is with Titanium Backup. I think that had to do with the SuperSU app freezing though when trying to get into the settings tab in the app. It just freezes up when selecting that and I had to go into application seetings and manually force stop the app. After that, everything worked fine. I think its just that settings tab for some reason.
The way I installed it was installed SuperSU from the market, then uninstalled the old Super User through the market. I then opened SuperSU and it asked to update so I did. After that, I went through all my root apps and the new SuperSU prompt popped up for all and I granted access. I too see the old SU in the app drawer. Opening that though shows that the only thing that its granting root access to is the new SuperSU app. It doesnt seem to be conflicting with anything so far.

Kind of random but Moon, you are a goddamn machine. The moment something great releases you take it apart and make it better. Good **** man, good ****.
Just including my experience...
SuperSU is working like a champ, but had major issues until I removed Superuser completely.
Here's how I installed:
- Install SuperSU from market
- Uninstall Superuser from settings > applications
- Launch SuperSU and allow it to update it's binary
- Delete superuser.apk from system/apps (use root explorer, es file explorer, terminal, etc...)
- Reboot
Since changing over to SuperSU, I haven't seen a single hang while an app is requesting su permissions.

Did you go Settings> Applications> Manage Applications and hit the app? If you dont see that option, go into Titanium Backup (an app you have no excuse not having) and uninstall it. Then go into Root explorer and follow the above directions to totally remove it. Then reboot. It may seem like it isnt totally gone cause you may see the icon somewhere, but it likely is gone and a reboot is needed in order to confirm.
yea got the tiBu. but i tried force stopping and clearing data and uninstall never popped up. thought about removing in TiBu buts thats not what it said in the instructions.

Did it disappear after you rebooted? If you have root explorer, go into system/app and see if SU is still gone. If so, you're in good shape.
to clarify
before i even started i backed up original superuser.apk to a folder on sdcard from root explorer, then
i downloaded supersu from market.
went to settings-app-manage apps- etc no choice to uninstall. force stopped- cleared data, still no uninstall option.
went into titanium backup to uninstall from there and superuser wasnt even listed in the apps! (ok weird)
only option left is to just delete from root explorer then continue continue to launch supersu, update binaries and reboot but im holding off.
Lowend was supersuper listed in titanium for u? y isnt it showing up in my list. i find it odd

I can't find superuser in TB either... it is kind of weird...
i believe u cant delete superuser from tibu cus u need superuser for root access so its like a paradox. i dunno y instructions were as someone showed cus it seems the only way to get this to work properly is delete from root explorer. but im gunna hold off till someone confirms this more legit
I don't understand why you're holding off...if SuperSU is active, go for the reboot and see if the old superuser app clears.

id rather not have a headache if it messes something up.
this thread however gives some detail on supersu
looks like sum apps look for the presence of superuser.apk in data/app and possibly system/app.
a dummy file looks like it can resolve issues. ill switch when more testing is done on CM7dx2.

It's odd that you guys don't see the uninstall option for it... Do you see it in Market (err...Google Play, stupid name)? That's another way to get the uninstall done. If it doesn't show up there, you should be able to use root explorer and delete it from /data/apps and /system/apps.
When we installed CM7, the instructions had us update Superuser from market. That would have installed it in /data/apps, so it just needs to be yanked from there. Uninstall via market, tibu, settings>apps or manual through root explorer should all do the same thing. Then you can delete the built in one from system.
Also, if for some reason the whole process breaks down on you...there's a flashable version of the original Superuser that will probably get you going again. I haven't tried it on CM7 though...

[Q] Root Browser not aquiring permissions from SuperSU?

Hi,
I just updated my SGS to 2.3.6 (JW4) with CF-Root. I've been using Root Browser since 2.3.5 (with Superuser) with no problems but since updating to 2.3.6 (with SuperSU), Root Browser does not get root permissions. For example I can read the system partition but cannot write to it (like deleting a file). Also if I click on a file on the system partition and check it's properties Root Browser does not show the permissions, it just display N/A.
After reading some posts I tryed some suggestions:
- configured SuperSU to the default allow action instead of prompting me
- installed Superuser, don't launch it, just install to check if it could be a problem with Root Browser way of cheking for root by using the presence of superuser.apk
- uninstalled and reinstalled Root Browser
None of the above has solved my problem. All the other apps that require root work fine.
Can someone confirm that Root Browser does indeed work with SuperSU 0.87?
Anyone has any suggestions for me to try?
Thanks.
Hi,
Yesterday I received an email from Root Browser dev informing that there is in fact an incompatibility between Root Browser and SuperSU. There will be an update to Root Browser in the future to correct this.
Just to pass along the info to anyone having problems.
Thanks.

Installing Gapps over an existing Gapps Install

Long story short, i have had the Droid razr for about a month and as soon I got the device, I flashed over the Black Widow ICS rom. Everything worked fine and smoothly but then a noticed a problem and hopefully you guys can help me.
There are updates for various Google Apps (Gapps) that i installed when flashing over the ROM. If I look at my apps within the Google Market as a whole, under the Installed tab, nothing needs updating. But for instance, if i click on Gmail, theres a update for it.
So first i was like cool, Ill try to download it. Downloads fine when it tries to Update, it says " Error - Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again" I understand what the error code means so I think to myself, "ok ill just delete the app and download using the Market."
Go to Manage Apps, and all i can do is Disable the so-called app but i cant uninstall it. So i thought, "ok ill try to uninstall it through the Google Market. Nope, the only two options are UPDATE and OPEN.
So i need you help. Should i download a newer version of GAPPS or is there a easier way to uninstall so i can just re-download it again.
Thanks EHB
Use a root browser (like es file explorer) make sure the /system is accessible and root enabled.
Go to /system/apps and delete the .apk for it
Same thing happened to me with the Arctic rom, maps wouldn't update, so i just got maps from the market after deleting it

Use Root Explorer as then 2 apps above is not powerful enough to delete the system file. Be sure you are on R/W mode, you can check on the upper right part of Root Explorer. That should do the trick.
You said you flashed a new Rom, which means you know how to use recovery. From the text it shows when you install a GApps package, it deletes the old files before adding the new ones. Now, I haven't actually looked at the install code but I wouldn't imagine Cyanogen or whomever the builder of that package is, would lie about something that thousands of people use?
Anyways, just try flashing a new GApps package. A few of the ones I have flashed have had Gmail included while others have not.

How to recover erased stock browser on prestigio 5044?

I tried to install aosp browser which is only supported for nexus devices, And now i ended up without my stock browser, bcs installing of aosp required to unninstall my old browser first. Also tried to download browser apk from xda (blackhand's one i think) set up permissions and owner tru' the root Explorer, but firstly browser crashed with "unfortunatelly browser has stopped" error, but now it wont install at all, bcs i get parsing error everytime i try to install browser apk. I hope somobody smarter than me, can help me with this.

SOLVED.After hours and hours searching the internet i finally found and downloaded original stock rom, in dedex format, and then extracted browser.apk from it. After that i put broswser.apk into sys folder of phone(via Root explorer) and set appropriate permissions , so that they look alike other's app's permissions (rw-r-r in this case), then i rebooted my phone and Voila everything was fine, my old stock browser was back <3. I just needed to dload and install ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter_blackhand1001.apk from this thread tnx to blackhand1001, so i could sync my boomarks from PC Chrome to stock browser on my phone.
Can u help me? I rooted my pap 5044, and deleted stock apps, but now that update came, i cant apply i cant install it. With 1.0.42 update, it also updates stock apps which i deleted. What can i do, how can i get those deleted aps?
