I don't know if this is normal to Ace nowadays but I just have this problem recently
When I use some custom launchers (Xperia, GO Launcher, ADW, etc.) and opened up some system apps (phone, contacts, and the likes) then try using the Stock task manager.. those launchers are being killed.. leaving the system app / stock launcher intact after I press the back button.
It's just pretty annoying that I still need to press the Home button just to show/revert back to those launchers...
Is this is really a problem and are there any fixes for it?
thanks

Even this seems to kill the launchers.
You may need to select "Keep in memory" or similar in your launcher options.
If you are rooted and have a root file explorer you can make a backup of the system launcher by copying the apk (and dex file if included) to your SD card, then move the app from your preferred launcher to system/app with Rw,R, R permissions and delete the stock launcher from the system/app folder. Then reboot.
Also many launchers have the system persistent option, try enabling it.

Is because the stock task manager is made by Samsung, it doesn't like third party apps.
you could use a different task manager from play store.
I don't use task manager's, android will kill processes when it needs to.

Well mate anyway you try, 3rd party launchers will always be killed by task manager. You can't keep them fully in memory. However if you don't like TW launcher, just delete apk and dex from system/app using root explorer and install any other launcher before doing so. It'll never appear again
hmm should I rename the new launcher to the deleted apk?
like GoLauncherAPK.apk to TouchWiz30Launcher.apk?
or just directly move it to the app folder

No. Go launcher will work. Just install it normally.

not really Go Launcher.. just a sample name lol
Well anyway you don't need to rename.

Bro i already told you that third party launchers will be killed by task manager. Moving them to system, renaming them, nothing would help. They can't be locked in memory unless any developer tries to do so.

Dear all,
I love the way LG stock rom devides apps in to default ones and Downloads. Moreover, it allows creating new categories to better organize apps. However, no custom rom (void, prime, lol,...) has this useful ability.
Do u know how to get this? Which app can help with the same need?
The LG Home app recognizes 2 categories by default, but additional categories may be added. And ones from the first category can be moved to the second and so on. The only thing special about the "APPLICATIONS" category in the stock launcher includes all apps from the /system/app/ directory.
With Zeam, GO, ADW, Panda, Better Home and LauncherPro (I don't know of other launchers...) it is possible to create categories and organise apps the same way as in the stock home app. But system apps are by default not seperate from the user applications in the app drawer.
If you want the stock launcher app, just copy it from your stock ROM - "/system/app/LGHome.apk". Then you are free to place it on any ROM of your choice (Simply install the package or copy it to the /system/app/ directory).

How do you do this? I've been using LP Plus for 2 weeks and I've pretty much gone through all the possible settings from the preference page and I couldn't find anything about it there.

i would like to know this too so i can create category for my downloaded apps and preinstalled apps
Many launchers come with this function. Just try them. If you have an Android phone and you haven't yet tried all the launchers, it's weird. I bet 99% people have tried all launchers.

Yeah, I find no option to do this
My phone cones default with above launcher. I just changed to go launcher ex and wanted to remove tw . My phone is roots. Can someone guide me on the removal? I tried holding onto the icon but the "x" does not appear. Thanks

you can download root uninstaller from market and find the twlauncher, and remove it
i wouldnt do it tho, in case your go launcher fails you will lack a launcher to do stuff
you can also delete the tw launcher using root explorer.just navigate to system/app
But as you have been warned delete TW launcher and not replace it phone cannot load .
jje
As JJE has pointed out, removing TW is fraught with danger.
If you really don't like it the best thing to do is install a launcher you do like then freeze the stock launcher in Ti or similar. This way your launcher of choice will be the default. Also bear in mind you can't completely get rid of TW, it is very much baked into your rom and its services are always running in the background/the launcher you use runs on top of it.
I also use GoEx & have the default Miui launcher frozen in Ti. I don't recommend removing anything to do with the stock launcher.
Go launcher allows you to make it your default launcher when setting it up so there's no need to mess with removing tw.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Or flash a rom that doesn;t use TW - like Illusion - go launcher as standard
I have about three launchers in the system / apps folder and use home switcher to change but only really use TW .

I have already made go launcher ex as default. But once a while when I kick on the centre button, the same prompter will appear asking me to choose btw go launcher and tw launcher. Everyttime I tick the box and make go.launcher the default, the prompter will appear again.
That's why I am thinking of removing it altogether. Or perhaps Bro/sis know how to solve the jnial problem?
Have you changed default through go launcher settings as well? because I'm using it and never have that problem. Maybe try clearing defaults in application management for go launcher too.

OK. Because I'm an all round good guy, I'll repeat this for the 2nd time.
Get Titanium Pro from the Market (or Gemini if you don't want to pay, or several other apps that can freeze apps), and freeze the stock launcher. I have done this in Miui and am using GoEx as my default launcher without having to tick any boxes or without the stock launcher prompting me or appearing out of nowhere.

I've have a situation where an individual wants to replace the stock launcher. I've been successful in swapping out system launchers for third party ones before, but the S3 isn't liking it too much. The reason for this is the individual feels that his third party launcher suffers a lag that stock doesn't. This S3 is rooted stock, and the filing system is a little different from my other toys, the goal is to remove stock launcher completely and let Nova run all launcher tasks to see if the lag is from file location. On some devices, you can literally replace the launcher apk, reboot and its done, not the case here. Anyone ever permanently replace the stock launcher?

I am confused as to what you want here. Why not just install nova/apex and set it as default launcher? If you are too keen on removing TW launcher just delete Seclauncher2.apk and odex from system/app.

The individual wants to completely wipe out stock launcher and replace permanently with Nova, he has moved the apk, but is getting force closed, I can't confirm if he's deleted or froze stock launcher, and I'm sure he didn't delete odex, which is what I needed to know. Like I mentioned, this file system is a tad different than what I had in front of me, so I was unable to tell him to remove odex. He had mentioned that for him, Nova had a file folder, he asked me if he was supposed to move just the apk or the whole thing, I've only swapped apks, not file folders. But you've been informative. Thank you......
Edit: Still getting force closures after the move. :/

I installed Nova, set it as default, and deleted the TW Launcher without any issues with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667140&highlight=bloatware+remover
I'd guess in his/her case, edit the batch file to only remove the TW Launcher (provided he has installed a custom recovery).
I did it that way and not getting any FCs

Thanks, problem is moving Nova to system permanently. Deleting stuff is fine, its just Nova doesn't like being in system.app for some reason.

Hello Everyone,
Is it possible to replace the stock launcher in MiUI with launchers like Nova or GNL?
Will uninstalling the system launcher and pushing a
3rd party launcher to system with system permissions work?
If not, another workaround?
Thanks and Happy New Year:angel:

Thanks will try. I'm rooted.
Will that mean long pressing back button keeps Nova in the memory? As I have set the back button to kill the foreground app.

Thanks for the reply brother, but like said, it gets killed while long pressing back button. Even though sometimes it's by mistake, it still kinda bugs me. That's why I asked if pushing it into system prevents it from getting killed.

just try some things first. go to developers option and turn off miui optimisations. and try to lock launcher in resent app. if this didnt work. thn u can turn launcher to a system app with titanium backup.
I've seen a few people asking about this and decided to play at doing it. After some messing around I've found the following method to work.
First off, you must be rooted. I don't know away around this.
Secondly you will need to download the two files I have linked in this thread and place them in folders of the same name (DO NOT INSTALL THE ACTUAL APKS).
Third, navigate to system > app folder and copy the two folders called "Weather2017" and "WeatherWidget2017" and move them somewhere else.
After moving the 2017 folders replace them with the 2016 folders and reboot
Once you have rebooted navigate back to system > app folder, remove 2016 folders and place the 2017 folders back as they were and reboot again.
When your phone boots back up now you should have access to place the default S8/S8+ weather widget on your screen while using your launcher of choice (I've tested it using Nova but I think it should work with others).
If this helps you please feel free to leave a like!?
