The best home launcher for any phone is the stock itslef. . It is rock stable and specially designed for your phone.
Anyways, other than that, for a simple launcher you can try Zeam Launcher. And also ADW launcher for extra added features.
Also, you can look into the Xperia S home launcher ported for mdpi devices, by serjar.
Thanks,
Rick

hmmm....For me the best home launcher is.....
1.Stock/Default Home Launcher (Most Stable Home Launcher)
2.Xperia S Home Launcher By Serajr (Best Tweak Home Launcher)
3.Lightning Launcher (Most Lightweight Home Launcher On Google Store)
i installed Launcher Pro but i found out it doesnt offer much on free version. then i installed Go Launcher n it gives me many options to customize!
use ZEAM launcher, just search in the market,
its fast, highly customizable, free, lightweight
if u are not satisfied with go launcher.. then go for ADW launcher EX!
my top 2 launcher of all time.
1. GO launcher (the best launcher ever for android, highly customizable)
2. Espier launcher (yeah.. it comes up with an iphone theme, but you can choose other theme predownloaded it much better than the default iphone theme)
My tip for you is apex launcher.
Really nice one.

I came across Helix in some website .
It *used to* be downloadable from the Market but now we can't .
Helix launcher uses the 2.1 style App Drawer and I think is personally faster than ADW .

Zeam, light and simple.
I've used LP, ADW, QQ, GO.
In my opinion GO launcher Ex is the way to go.
The only downside is the small icons.
Respond to Serri330(didnt wanna double post)
I dont really have any icons on my homescreen except the dock(attachment1) but I just hate the space between the dock and the icons(attachment2).
I use GO Launcher EX myself, and I actually prefer the smaller icons. I'm able to see more of my background, and it seems sleeker and less intrusive than stock. Whenever I see my husband's phone (who is running 2.2.1 with Sense UI, no launcher) I'm always amazed at how huge the icons are. It almost seems cartoony and comically large.

Zeam Launcher 4 sure...
Light, fast and everything i need...
ADW Launcher EX (completely diff. from Adw launcher)
The fastest launchers are among launcherpro, go launcher ex and the xperia active. Launcherpro is neglected by the developer though, that's why go launcher is speeding ahead.
But I love the active launcher
zeam launcher.
simple, fast.
Wow , so many people are towards so many different launchers

I am sure someone will disagree with me but, in my opinion, Nova, Apex and ADW are the top three.

A better idea would be to install Home Manager and several launchers. Home Manager will let you switch among them anytime soon you can keep them all at the same time.

You can create folders on each page to hold more apps. Just drag one icon on top of another, and the launcher will create a new folder and ask you to name it. That way you can have all your apps on your launcher desktop, organized in folders.

I have an old Xperia mini 10i that's been very good to me. I had long ago, switched from the corners launcher to launchers of my own but last week I found the NXT Port and gave it a shot, and I forgotten just how lovely the CORNERS function on the launcher was!
I spent the day looking for something for my Xperia U...But nothing.
Come across some beautiful stuff (serjar et.al) by many people but I just can't find a LAUNCHER with CORNERS for the ICS 4.04 Xperia U - whatever ROM I'm looking at!
So...I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction? I'd be very grateful.
For reading this post - you must be looking for a launcher too - I'll direct you to the most excellent SonyXperia Launcher I found...its Ra3al, XperiaLauncher 2.0 Alpha over at his post; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2103403
Don't let the 'alpha' fox you. It's smooth, it's fluid, it's very, very stable.
Ok....hit thanks - and guide me onto a LAUNCHER with CORNERS for ICS 4.O4 Xperia U....won't you!

Hey, thanks for the direct...but that's actually one e of the places I was coming from.
These mods won't load on the ICS platform, at least not on the xperia U.
So I'm looking for a mod specific to ICS 4.04
I gather that the 2011 xperias, so some of them, received an ICS upgrade of their own, but this stuff just doesn't install on the U.
That mod you point out is the closest I've come to finding something though.
It DID work on my CM7 mini!!!
Anyway, thanks - but STILL LOOKING Y'ALL!!!

I think small corners only present when you have a ldpi phone. Xperia U can't get it because it's a hdpi phone. That's why when you try to install the launcher you didn't get any corners
stock launcher from xperia mini/mini pro/active/lww from ICS fw does not work on xperia U?
both mdpi phones have launcher with corners...
and when a use on my lww launcher from arc i does not have the corners
I don't have hdpi phone so I don't know how mdi launcher will work on hdpi
Here are two launchers for MDPI phones
look on the second one its based on original MDPI ICS launcher for mdpi phones with corner

Laggy for me. Looks nice though. Unfortunately, Go themes don't work for this. Plus, in the deskstop (main screen or whatever), when you click the button left to Home, the icons are I think way to big for SGY so its scrollable. Not that fine for me.

Launcher and Locker
I have used many launchers in the past including Launcher 8 and Smart Launcher. However I prefer Apex Launcher over the latter because of the simplicity of the applications UI and the ability to customize down to the size of icons. I am currently running Apex Launcher and it doesn't seem to drain battery more than other launchers I have tested. Here are some of my home screens.
I went for a minimalistic look and used the option to disable the notification bar and dock. The notification bar can be accessed by a fast swipe down and the app drawer (also customizable) can be accessed by a fast swipe up. I used ZooperWidget for many of my widgets and SMPL White icons for ditching the colored app icons.
As for the locker I installed Holo Locker which gives a very clean look to the phone.
The paid version can be customized to show SMS and call notifications and I believe you need it to change to shortcuts as well.
All these apps can be found on the Play Store SMPL White icons and Holo Locker being the only paid ones. Using these two together gives the device a very sleek look. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to improve upon stock UI without rooting!
I prefer Holo Launcher HD, Nova and Apex are too... Feature filled for me. Also I find that Holo HD uses less RAM and is smoother with less redraws on my P769
If you want somerhing a bit different, you can have a look at Atom launcher, it's one of my favourites

This Droid world is filled with many choices, so many that i feel spoiled.
Sony Xperia Z, MiHome, MiSpace, SoHo, Nova, Apex, Holo... these are the launchers I have used, and most of the times return to Xperia Z's home launcher, I wont tell you to go and install it, but I would rather tell you to "Explore to find out what suits your taste most!"
Happy Exploring!!

Right now using Huawei Emotion Launcher, kind of modified MiHome launcher and feels slick and fluid, and the weather live wallpaper with auto wedgie sync is pretty sick!!
