My major focus is to get rid of bloatware; I really don't want to wipe my phone for a ROM. Is it possible to root, freeze bloatware and then unroot so that I can have the ability to download the OTA ICS if its ever released?
Does anyone know if the leak firmware fixes the hotspot bug?
Yeah, to unroot after you do your changes, just remove the superuser.apk app and the su binary from the /system/xbin directory.
If you are running ICS you can disable bloat from the app manager. No Root necessary. The only reason I am rooted is so I can use the WiFi Tether app. I'm running Scott's rooted version of the latest leak.

I don't think it is advantageous whatsoever to unroot after you removed bloat. Why why do you want to do that? Just so you don't have to wipe?
Do note that you'll have to wipe during the root process since you'll need to unlock the bootloader before you can root.
i guess im dumb
i need help i have a completely stock phone and trying to get the latest leak ive downloaded it but i dont see the root of the sd card and thats just the first issue

Use a file explorer like ESFile Explorer to get to the root of your sd card.
But you can't flash the leak without an unlocked bootloader.

Actually, you need to u lock the bootloader, flash Amon RA (link in my sig) and RELOCK then place the PH98IMG.zip on the root of your SD card and flash in HBoot. If you have an unlocked bootloader, it will not work, but you have to have a custom recovery or it will not work either

You can unlock your htc legend at HTC DEV.
Once the new file is installed and the phone is s-off, how do I re-root the phone?
Exactly! Also my question! They want you to upgrade your Bootloader which will disable you from rooting (all methods I've heard of require old versions Bootloader).
Any solution before we dive into this WONDERFUL UNLOCKED REALM?
Hi, just signed up to HTC dev to see what's going on with bootloader unlock, I started the procedure but told me it wants to delete everything on my phone, bugger that.
This is HTC official root method, it says you can load custom rom's and change the recovery but it is still s-on to protect the radio and sim lock (network).
Now if u are not already rooted then its gonna make it hard, esspecialy to backup, however we still have revolutionary temp root to backup with titanium.
For those already rooted, I'm not sure if there is any advantage, except you can flash custom recovery, we have fakeflash so not much point IMO.
Oh, just realised it gives unrestricted access to /system folder so that might make it worth while after all..

Good question. I suspect it might only work with unrooted legends.
If that is the case its gonna be a big hassle, but not impossible.

wow wow wow WOOOW!!! I didn't expected this!!!!! I will unlock my bootloader and install the clockwork recovery ASAP!
For rooted legend you can make a nandroid, install the RUU, install a recovery (the .img recovery from the rom manager site) and restore the nandroid
Do you plan on doing it on yours?
I noticed that there is also a wifi security update out for the legend too,
The bootloader unlock is 3.15.405.5, and the wifi fix is 3.15.405.6, so I guess it has to be in that order or the bootloader unlock wont run.
Good,Now my phone has hboot unlocked, but is there a way to disable the security flag and finally get SOFF now ?
Stevenstrike,
Did you install that update on top of your cm custom rom?
Any problems at all?
No
Just find a HTC stock rom for your legend, then update the rom via OTA if needed, then try to apply the hboot update, after that use the htcsupertoolv3 to gain perm root, and if you want, flash cwm fastboot to access cwm as recovery.
Thanks,
Are you applying their Wifi security fix as well?

Never heard of that, besides my radio is already 7.13.35.05, so i think i dont have to apply this.
Edit : Link to gain Perm Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074 (link is for wildfire S but also work for Legend)
and link to flash CWM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244371&highlight=cwm ( then do a fastboot flash recovery <recoveryFile>.img )
Ah ok, I see that the Bootloader unlock is software version 3.15.405.5, security update is 3.15.405.6, does that make a difference or is it purely the radio that matters?

Not at the moment, I am already rooted & happy with what I have ATM. I can do everything I need via recovery and android commander. Might give it a go at a later date.

I still says S-ON but you can do anything that requires r/w permission on /system.
Tested with SU update, BusyBox installation, host write with AdAway.
Gees this is complicated, almost as hard and confusing as rooting hboot 1.01 in the first place.
I have downloaded the hboot 1.02 update, I'm wondering if you can just do that on its own on a rooted phone?
I just worry that it might do some real damage if you do, cause I don't think we can go back to 1.01 or other hboot later.

I already Unlocked my HTC Rezound but I am not able to root it using the oneclickroot method. i get Fail and error messages but it tell me it was successfully rooted. No Super user app.
Can anyone Help me with this? Im I missing something? doing anything wrong?
Thanks!
You must have the update then. OneClick root doesn't work any more.
Just download and flash Amon Ra in fastboot, then go to the developer menu in that and install su. Then I believe you need to update it from the Market. The you'll be rooted and ready to flash a custom ROM.
To flash Amon Ra, just put in in the same folder you used for the unlocking and use the following command:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Also, if you are planning on flashing an ICS ROM you might want to use v3.10. Otherwise go with the latest which I think is still v3.14.
Thanks, that worked.

You do know that it is recommended to not use clockworkmod on the Rezound and to use Amon Ra instead right? Even a post above your suggested doing that.

If you are using Amon Ra recovery all you need to do is boot to recovery and use the superuser installation in the developers menu.
that didnt work. i install it... reboot and go to super user and try to update the bu or whatever and it says root fails.
I rooted the same way I did in GB.

ill try it again by re installed the leak completely. do you kno how to TEMP install a custom recovery so i can keep stock and recieve ota updates?
Try flashing the full SU located here
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
Then from the Play store, install Busybox installer and get the latest.
Regarding recovery, flash AmonRA 3.15 in fastboot with unlocked bootloader. "fastboot flash recovery **filename**.img" Your HBOOT will show **TAMPERED** but that is normal.

No need to rename, put onto root of SD card and then use the 'flash zip' options within AmonRA...or whatever custom recovery you have.
Disregard, I didn't see the last post on here.
Did not work. Any other ideas?
I was going to install an ICS Sense ROM on my Rezound, but i just got a message that the OTA is downloading.
I'm rooted. I'm going to do S-Off soon as I can.
Should I get S-Off before installing the OTA?
Will the OTA break root?
Will the OTA break S-Off?
Are there advantages to using an ICS Sense ROM instead of the OTA? Vice versa?
Thanks!
I would s-off before you accept ota. It will not effect s-off. Installing an ics Rom wild give you better performance as well as better battery life
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I was in your exact position so I can help out here.
Note that before you accept the OTA you will need to flash the stock GB recovery, as that's how the OTA installs. Without it the OTA will fail. Also make sure you're 'locked' if you don't end up S-OFFing before the OTA. The S-OFF procedure automatically "locks" your bootloader even though you of course have full access.
I S-OFF'd before OTA just because the S-OFF method has been known to work with GB firmware. Others have reported the .5 ControlBear version on the unlimited.io website also works with the .22 OTA release so that's your call. IMO yes do it before, but it will likely work either way.
-Root will definitely break. Easy to fix: you just google Superuser and flash the latest ARM version.
-The OTA will not break S-OFF. HOWEVER, it will completely overwrite your "modded" hboot with its own secured version. To fix this, grab the ICS hboot from the unlimited.io website and flash it. This is necessary if you want to flash a custom recovery again.
-OTA advantages: support from VZW and probably *slightly* less bugs than a custom ROM. However you of course have to deal with the bloat. It's your call.
Ok, first step...
Where do I get the stock GB recovery?
And i guess i have to "flash" using my computer, not from within Amon?
So, all of the "flashing" you're talking about had to take place using my computer, not from within Amon?
Sorry I'm such a noob.
Anyone? I can't find the stock GB recovery for the Rezound... Anyone know where I can get it?
And do I flash it the same way I flashed AR recovery?

This is from a write up Scotty did a while back. It's worked for me in the past.
Rename to PH98IMG.zip and place on root of SD card and flash in hboot.
Or extract the recovery.img from that zip and flash in fastboot with the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thanks!
And now to get root back once I install the ICS OTA...
Do I simply flash the latest Superuser the same way that I flashed the recovery? ie: Do I rename it PH98IMG.zip and flash it in hboot?
You guys are awesome...

It's right there as CWM SuperSU v0.94
Thanks... It's confusing because it says CWM in the name, but I suppose that really just means you can install it with a custom recovery, not necessarily CWM.
CWM really screwed up charging on my phone before, so I was leary of it.
Got it rooted and ready to go now. Thanks!
I rooted my wife's phone with Zedomax's method, and it is still on stock 1.22.651.1. I only rooted her phone to get around the Apple patent mess.
Now that 3.15.651.16 is available, and reported to remove the Apple patent issue, I want to go back to no root on her phone, and just accept the OTA's.
Can I just go to the Superuser app, and select "Full unroot", or do I need to install an RUU? Will the "Full unroot" delete any existing data, revert to factory stock, or anything like that?
Thanks!
Since you are still stock I would assume you only need to flash stock recovery and then accept the ota. If you used any cleaner scripts (removed bloatware) the ota could fail. You would probably be better off running the ruu and then accept the ota

Another option is to run the correct S-off tool for your current hboot. That would allow you to update to the latest firmware, then flash a rooted Jellybean rom.

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread, or ask here since I'm in a similar situation.
I'm rooted, but do not remember which method I used. I'm away from home so I can't check my computer for the files I used.
I'm completely stock.
I'm also S-On. I never flashed any recovery. I did edit the build.prop file due to the Apple issue.
My software version is only 1.13.651.1 710RD.
Android version is 4.0.3.
When I tap HTC software update, it reports "no update available".
Can I simply do a restore, download the update, then root? I only want root for the few apps that require it, like TB.
I'm desperately hoping the update will fix the LTE issue. I'm in L.A., which has LTE, but I rarely am able to connect.
