Hi all,
So far, I am able to build a kernel from source for working on Dell Venue. As I notice, the JW rom has performed some overclocking tricks to reach a CPU frequency greater than 998MHz.
I would like to ask, how would we overclock for Dell Venue in our kernel? I tried to set min/max frequency for CPU manually, but no effect (the kernel documentation also shows that, Sysfs can override such change).
Please help!
OK, now I got the answer and know where to patch.
BTW, my topic was moved to General, it might not a suitable place since I am asking about kernel tweaks for performance, not using apps.
So r u building a new rom? might be ics 4??

hi.. i need some advice/guide regarding this matter..
first of all, i'm planning on compiling custom kernel myself for my ace. i've succesfully compiled a kernel on my debian box using kernel sourcecode from samsung and also applied bfs patch. but now i dont want to just stop here.
the problem is i dont know where to look for those undervolt patch, smartass governor patch, interactive governor patch etc etc. gooling for "android kenel patch/module" just bring me to precompiled kernel thread, not the source patch itself. so maybe anyone can guide me the right direction? thx before

better to see the github site, lot of kernel source with many patching in there. and i think, for the much customized of samsung kernel, you can just patching, manual diffing will more better because samsung kernel is not vanillaish android kernel. much modification in there.

Custom kernel for the Ace on it's way..?
Hi devs,I have a problem,i have a huawei u8650 and a custom kernel with overclock support, the normal frequency is 250-600 mhz but when i overclock it ,for example to 768 mhz,the camera starts to give some problems, some black lines appears in the screen and the pictures taken have those lines too.
I think that maybe the problem is the voltage, i ve downloaded some apps from the market to change voltage values but they tell me that my kernel doesnt support undervolt or overvolt,so i need help to ad that posibility to my kernel.
or give me please some posible reasons why camera act different when doing overclock?
i have descompressed de boot.img and have the boot.img-ramdik folder and zimage inside a .zip atacched if some of you could help me.
thanks i advance.
no body?please i need to solve this problem.
the github to the kernel is this https://github.com/supertoast/kernel-2.6.35-series-U8650-U8510-M865-Gingerbread
If I were you, I would not UV...
But to be honest, I also dont know how to

This is originally Leedroids work
ive just made slight changes and edited the script/code, with governors and frequencies etc, below in downloads, for both cores (more to add by request).
if you find that any of these changes are not working
delete .placeholder folder in system/etc/init.d/ , you will need a rooted explorer with the file system mounted rw. And/or remove/disable mpdecision (if your kernel supports it)
please go thank leedroid on this thread but dont post bug reports or errors to Leedroid, as this was edited by me, any faults in the code is my fault
this basically, is a bit of code, which pre sets dual core as locked/forced aswell as which governor, and at what frequencies your phone is set to be at, as standard. please decide on your "ideal" governor and frequency, as you will have trouble changing these inside android (as a noob) ,
if your desired governor or frequency isnt listed, again , give me a holler and il sort it for ya.
1, back up your rom (advised)
2, download chosen zip
3, in recovery, install chosen zip
4, reboot
5, no step 5, thats it, youve done it
to check, confirm and change settings, i recommend using (click me) <<< this here, very lightweight, easy to use, and changes are instantanious, aslong as they are not been conflicted by previous init.d files
if you would like alternate settings, or governors, give me a holler with kernel info and and il see what i can do

It doesn't make a difference mate, works on jb, gb and ics
OP - might wanna make note..since a lot of people here use the "other" kernel.. may wanna inform them not to use these scripts w/ that kernel...and to select the settings they want in aroma
if people want to use these scripts, they should disable mpdecision via sysfs (directions posted on that other site in post 2 of the kernel thread)
this info will prevent a lot of issues with external processes attempting to control cpu1 on/offline

Removing the .placeholder from init.d allows the CPU to be controlled manually, as opposed to chads preset settings
I'll be a little more specific in op later, thanks
Also mpdeciaion has been disabled in 3.1.8 , if I remember correctly

WiFi not working when flashed on Paranoid Android 4.6(Beta 5)
Hello, I have flashed this kernel over Paranoid Android's Fresh installation but as I try to turn on wifi,it keeps displaying that 'wifi is turning on' and it keeps displaying like forever, I have even tried wiping data, cache and dalvik cache after flashing but the problem is still persisting,
I request you to please suggest me what should I do to make this kernel work.
thank you

Would like to help test this build, but I'm pretty new to smartphones in general
I managed to install CM11 via step-by-step instructions, but that's about it.
Would you recommend against doing something as advanced as custom kernels at that early stage of learning?
If you think it's not too difficult to pull off, I'd be grateful for instructions.

If u like experimenting, go on and do it. XD to flash the kernel just do a backup of boot.img in TWRP recovery, then flash the kernel, if you dont like it, just restore the boot.img. Its easy. Im new to all this too
trickster mod gpu governor

same here, in trickster mod only few options avaible, like dt2w and sound control....
So eager to overclock moto e GPU and RAM
[KERNEL 3.4.104][CM] ALPHA Kernel 0.7 update[nov 17-2014]
(use Trickster mod kernel to avail some of the features)
-Intelli Hotplug v3.8 (for better battery perf)
-Intelli Thermal v2 thermal manager.
-Ram OC to 400mhz from 333mhz
-gpu OC to 433mhz from 400 mhz
[/B][/U]-cpu underclock upto 91mhz (good battery life)
-Sound control 3.4
How to get that RAM and GPU frequency? Is it overclocked by default in this kernel or should we manually do it if so how?
I can't post the issue in the latest thread since I am a junior member. Here nobody answers the question. Really sad. Please take this post to the main thread...

Trickster mod has the option to OC.
I don't remember exactly, but its a value on the scale of percentage. (100 being default). You need to change it in steps (usually by 1).
Google how to use trickster mod. Or try any other GUI based CPU app. Most apps support CPU OC if the kernel supports it.
Ps: Its been long since I used Trickster mod and OC'd. So it might be a lil different than I remember.
Also, to enable OC, you might have to disable Battery Saver.
This section went out of my sight , i will check it regularly from here on :good::good::good:
I downloaded the latest trickstermod and installed. Checked the tutorial too. In tutorial I saw the overclocking slider and stuff. But with this kernel I couldn't see any option like that in trickstermod. Its been said that we can underclock RAM frequency too in the kernel features. GPU tweaking is also another feature of this kernel. But I am unable to use these options with trickstermod. Can this be done with any other app supporting this kernel?
If so pls help me out with app link and screenshots.
Thanks a lot for your response...waiting to overclock...

tried installing su binary through twrp & it installs fine but when launched super su says no binary is installed.
Digital TV and root access does not work.
Digital TV does not work, so I installed this kernel I lost root access , I did the flash SuperSu.zip again , but still no root access ..: c
i suppose , the root problems arent occuring anymore
I have had this phone a year now and seems to get slower and slower. I used to be able to download kernels to overclock other phones in the past. Is this possible with this phone?

You can flash a custom kernel for this phone too if someone has made it. A custom kernel will always be better then the stock. After flashing a custom kernel or you can use stock one, install a kernel manager (I like smart pack) and set CPU BIG and SMALL CLUSTERS to highest frequencies and set the scailing_governor to performance. GPU increse frequencies to max and set governor if you can to performance. Disable SE LINUX (only if you know what you are doing)
These may help:
