I've looked as much as I could into all the posts on here to find a solution to my issue and found none (plus google/youtube search), so please bare with me.
brief intro: This is my first time owning an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717).
My issue: the note won't send MMS no matter what I do, talked to AT&T and Samsung supports for two days and no luck .
I tried editing the pre-selected APN but it's greyed out CAN'T. I tried adding a new one with success but I can't selected as a default APN (what a f***king tease).
Note: SamNote is bone stock with plenty bloatware!
OOPS! Wrong section, can you move to it Q&A section, thanks.
What you want is your MMS settings not APN settings.
Messaging>Menu>Settings>Message Center
Make sure the number is +13123149810
Try texting 151 with the message "text"
If you dont get a text saying it is working properly and since AT&T and Samsung havent been able to help you, I say get a replacement
Go to settings.....mobile networks and make sure "use packet data" is checked
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I can send text messages ONLY not picture/audio/video. the message center is correct and "use packet data" is checked.
When I send a picture it just hangs for hours.
Have you tried a different sms app just to see if its in the default app? I use GoSms and it works great......its free in the market......worth a shot just to see.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Use something like Go SMS instead of the stock messenger. Also supports emoji from and to iPhones.
I never got SMS working right with mine either.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I use Handcent SMS.
I just downloaded GoSMS but it seems to be using "GoShare" so it sends a link instead of a picture. Can I change that?
Edit: nevermind. i was using the wrong option. Yet it does the same thing, picture sending just hangs. It seems as if it's using the wrong server settings, I am a 100% sure the APN needs to be changed, but it just F**king won't let me change it.

Unfortunately, that didn't work.
btw, I'm a prepaid user not a contract if that matters (never had this issue with iphone 3gs and 4s).
Are you sure your data plan is active? Not sure how the prepaid plans work but don't you need a data plan for mms to work?

as i stated before, I CANNOT CHANGE the preselected apn nor select the new apn as default.
Also make sure in handcent...go to settings>application > default app messaging application make sure its set for sms and mms ..for your default app.
This happened to me also. Had to select att mobile network. Menu settings mobile networks select att.

Okay, after searching for hours on how to fix the mms issue, i have found a very usefull and easy to use app that sets up the APN:
1. Go to Play Store to download/install it.
2. Run it (no root access needed).
3. Click on "Let's Go"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Then "Select Operator"
5. Choose your service provider (my case: AT&T)
6. Finally select your type of connection (my case: prepaid=standard)
That is it, again in my case the "4g" never appeared at the top right corner until i've done this.
Note: if you don't succeed the first time, try it again by selecting a different type of connection (last photo).
Good luck.

My number is ported through google voice.
What give? Am I missing something?
IDK what to tell you, I have it. I used it to text before I even activated the phone.
I have a 3D now and I was able to download it just fine. Works good on EVO 3D.
working good here too, try rebooting your phone.
Yup, same here. Works great.
i noticed this today also
i got my phone yesterday and downloaded it fine
i got my moms today and its not there in the market
Wait, what? Can anyone else confirm this? I know it's probably something that will get resolved pretty quickly, but I'm going to have a major problem if I can't have my google voice app for even a day. I guess I'll just not activate the phone until someone posts that it's definitely in the market.

When I searched for it, I couldn't find it either. I had to find another Google application and at the bottom of that app's page, click on "View other applications" to see other apps developed by Google.
i just 'pushed' it from the android website from my desktop. it's there. it works.

In general, when I can't find a known app on the market, I go to www.appbrain.com , find the app and install it with the QR code. DON'T create an appbrain account and it will show you everything, not just the apps that it "thinks" are compatible with your phone. Here is a direct link to GV and here is the actual QR code if you don't want to bother with all that clicking.

So it's known that everyone with an Amaze 4g and the Samsung Galaxy S2 can't wifi tether without getting the upsell page. We know that this this is due to the phone and not the sim card.
What I do know is that other work around tether's work without root such as PDAnet. (Posting from my pdanet-ted amaze right now)
The question that I have is does anyone have a rooted Amaze 4g and has tried to wifi tether using 3rd party apps like barnacle?
What are you talking about? I have my SIM from my HD2 in my Amaze and I tether my Acer Iconia just fine as well as my laptop.
I'm using my old sim from my Vibrant and I can't tether my Nook to my Amaze.
With root, if you delete Tethering manager the built in tethering options will work.

Binary, the fix he posted for the SGSII is a software based lock. It doesn't exist on the Amaze. The software mentioned is "Wifi Manager". If it is removed, the redirect is removed. I used to own two before I gave both of them to my parents, so I tinkered with it. That device is so much easier compared to the Amaze to work on. Dat Odin...
As for our Amaze tether, you're best off doing it this way:
Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names>T-Mobile Data.
WARNING: MAKE A BACKUP IF YOU ARE ANAL ABOUT KEEPING ORIGINAL SETTINGS.
Once you're in there, hit the menu key (the one that looks like 4 lines with the top one being wider than the bottom 3) and delete the APN.
NOTICE: HITTING RESTORE WILL NOT NECESSARILY GIVE YOU THE ORIGINAL SETTINGS BACK.
Once you're done deleting, it will return you to the Access Point Names page. Hit the menu key on that page and hit "New APN".
Under the New APN page, set the name to anything you want. (I named mine Data)
Under the APN set "epc.tmobile.com"
After setting that, hit the menu key again and select "Save".
When you return to the APN page, select the plan you just created.
...and you're done! Enjoy your new wifi tethering!
EDIT: The only thing you need to really do is to go into the settings. Find the "Username", "Password", and "Server" fields and delete those and save. You'll know if you did it correctly when you see "<Not set>" for those fields.
Wow this worked for me!!!! Thanks

This method worked for me, though not for direct tethering. Wifi hotspot works with this method. Thanks!
How come some customers with Amaze phones hotspots work and others don't?
Mine works fine, also worked great off my mytouch4G. Never added it to my plan, but always had the 5G plan. Even recently changed my plan and still have it.
Is it a matter of time to hit a certain MB and they will send a statement to add this feature? I mean I did a lot in one month off my mytouch4G.

Hello, enjoying my new SGH-i777. I've rooted and easily tried many different ROMS over past 6 weeks, but I'm now so frustrated I'm feeling like going back to my iPhone. Please, please .. anyone help me, .... I'm used to with my iPhone getting pics in my text message thread with the pic immediately there, viewable, and ready to simply touch and expand to larger size if I choose to. With this phone, I either get a pic with a large Play button overlay, a box with "Download" written on it, or sometimes I get a pic just as I'm used to.
I hate this with a passion! All I want is to receive my texts with the pic embedded, view-able and ready to go. I don't want to have to touch a "Play" button then wait while something that looks like a video plays out before I can see my pic.
Is there a ROM, App, or script that I can add to get the same results as with an iPhone when pics are sent in a text message? I luv this phone and don't want to have to go back to my iPhone but this is sooo important to me that it is likely a Deal Breaker! I have AT&T grandfathered in unlimited text and data plan. I have tried ChompSMS, Handcent SMS as well as the native Messaging App that came with the phone. Please help if there is a simple solution that will fix this phone. Thx.
Pretty much use anything other than the stock messaging app whether it be Go SMS, Handcent, chompsms, etc to have something more useful when viewing MMS. You should also make sure that the "Auto-retrieve" option is checked in MMS settings in the stock messaging app.
MIUI's messaging app does what you want.
You receive a picture with a paperclip on it (I think), you touch it and it puts it up on screen. No other apps are involved i do not think... If they are its a seamless transition and you wont notice.
whoever thought the slideshow mms thing was a good idea was a complete moron.

I use handcent and rarely see what you're talking about.
I only get the slideshow if the person sent multiple pictures in a single message.
I have seen that on other phones, and it is annoying.
Use anything else than the stock.
Go SMS is a good option. I use it and love it. That stupid play button is not an issue. Go SMS is very customizable too. Many themes available and you can make themes too. Don't give up man, these Android devices are all about the individual. You make it your own.
you can either flash miui or flash the mms.apk posted by simba501 in this thread (post #23). i used this mms when i was on custom stock rom and it works. no slideshow mms.
i was sick of the slideshow as well and i also didnt want to go with a 3rd party messaging app so i went this route.
miui message app runs flawless. i also came from iphone, so this was annoying for me.

On stock messaging app, it always comes as a slideshow. On ChompSMS it has NEVER come as a slideshow.

Sorry about that. You're right. I was looking at post #12 in that thread. Thanks!
Every app I've ever tried, besides for the stock app, turns pictures sideways.
I tried out miui, and it did it. ChompSMS does it.
I don't understand what causes it.

I'd start by uninstalling Lookout Security. From my experience Antivirus programs and Task Killers cause phones to do goofy things.

That will probably do it, but if not, you can either A) uninstall anything you installed, or B) (recommended) do a factory reset, start from scratch, and don't install ANYTHING until you see if the phone is ok. Assuming it is, then you can add apps back a few at a time until you find the culprit. Or with a stock experience if it keeps happening, take it back for a new one
I would do a backup and the do a factory reset.
Would doing a factory reset break root? Since I have already done a nandroid, would I be able to restore apps and app data only after the factory reset?
via Galaxy S III
To my experience NO I just factory reset and still see superuser under "all apps"

Finally someone got the same issues as mine. I got mine fixed. The main problem is the google account. No matter how many times you do factory reset, error will show again and again.
Try this and see if this work.
Goto settings --> Accounts and Sync.
go through each email account, make sure "Sync Internet" "Sync google play books" "Sync google play movies" are UNCHECK!
restart your phone.
That might solve the problem
Thanks everyone for the comments I will give it a try and see what works and I will let you know.

I hope that works lol, I have had that issue since out of the box.
I have a Rogers Galaxy S3 and mine began doing it yesterday, while in the waiting room of the dentist office.
The phone became rather warm and battery life went to crap. And then my phone started throwing up the same message. I dod not install or uninstall anything just before it began.
It was ok last night, but then it did it again this morning, while I was browsing through my tweet timeline in plume.
I had a similar issue on mine when rooted. I ended up having to delete the whole data partition and start again from scratch. It was a corruption somewhere in there causing it.

Ye, could be a corruption. Flash root-notrip stock. Then data/factory reset.
My phone is stock. Non-rooted

Well so far my phone has not done it again since went in to sync and unchecked those boxes in Gmail so may be that is the problem. Hope it works for everyone else. Thanks

i had the same issue although it didnt really freeze the phone because i would just press ok and go right back to what i was doing. but im gonna uncheck those boxes in the email setting and see if it works.
Unchecked the boxes and knock on wood no I haven't had an issue again.

I am pretty confident it will work without issues.

I have just, in the past couple of days, developed a pretty serious issue with pop-up ads appearing all over the place on my phone. They come in two different ways. 1st is when an ad pops up over the top of another app. This has happened with GO SMS and with the Facebook app for sure. I can't recall what other apps it has happened with, but I don't get the impression that the ad is related to the app I'm in. I've had them pop up on the home screen as well.
Here is an example of a pop-up ad when I opened GO SMS:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I also have it happen where I open my browser (I use Chrome) and it will automatically launch a new tab, then the tab will act as a redirect and send me to the Play Store for another app (basically sending me to the download/install page for an app).
I don't recall installing any apps just before this started happening. I believe that my app list is the same before and after this issue, but I'll keep looking. I have not rooted and am using the Nova Pro launcher, if that helps at all.
How can I figure out what is causing this and, most importantly, how do I make it go away? A factory reset is an option, but I'd like to keep that as a last resort if possible.
Thank you for any and all help.

Air Push Detector said it is not necessary for Android 4.1+. I ran it, though, and told it to scan anyways. It didn't find anything.
It is driving me nuts that I can't nail down where these are coming from.
Try uninstalling gosms. If I remember right. When I tried that crapp it was full of ads

I can try that. If that is the offender, that'll be a real bummer. Used it for about a year, now, between my S3 and Note 3 and never had an issue. I got pretty comfy with using it as a messaging app, too.
That said, if it is going to cause pop-ups like this, it isn't worth it.

You recently change a theme in it or something?
Many of the "free" addons to Go* products are full of this crap.

I had an add on, but it was from a while ago. I can't really think of a thing I changed between it not happening and happening.
I have deleted GO SMS, though, and have not experienced the issue since. Looking like that was the culprit. Now I just need to find an acceptable SMS app.
