Storage question - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I searched and could not find an answer to this:
On this phone you have the option to move your Apps to phone storage. Will doing this cause slower loading times like it used to on phones that allowed you move a portion if the space used by apps to the sd card? What are the disadvantages to moving your apps to.phone storage?
Thanks

Sorry to bump this,
Surely someone has an idea on this?

[Q] Galaxy S II Storage Partitions: Can They Be Changed?

My GS2 came with 1.97GB of "System Storage" and 11.5 GB of "USB Storage"
I don't know if that's how everyone's has been set up, but I find that 1.97 GB to be a little too small, and would love to merge it and the rest of the USB Storage so that I just have two storage areas. The 1.97, at the moment, is where all applications are default installed, and the 11.5GB is where music and videos that I copy over through Kies goes.
Is there anyway to merge the two so I'm not so limited with the 1.97?
Thanks!
1.97 GB is way more than anyone should need for internal. My Evo has ~320MB left and that's about as good as it gets, with my 8GB SD card for music and whatnot.
But yes there should also be a way to change the partition sizes. Or just use A2SD to move all the apps you need to your SD card and that could help, but also sacrifices speed of the apps.

Oh, I didn't know this was the wrong forum to post in, I just had a question, so I went to the Q and A forum. Sorry if it should have been somewhere else. I'm just looking for a way to merge the two internal storages.
If you'll let me know where I should ask this question, I'll ask it there instead.
Thanks

sdcard vs sdcard2 vs sdcard-ext

I'm trying to understand the different storage memory points on this beast. I love to have my device files in my Device to be well organized. However, having a directory named sdcard-ext (external, as I understand) in my sdcard (internal?) directory that apparently mirrors sdcard2 is really throwing me off.
Is anyone able to explain the differences between these?
i.e. If I want to save things to my sdcard, do I bring it to sdcard2 or sdcard-ext?
Apologies if this has been explained on a different thread elsewhere. My searching brought up nothing to answer my question. Thanks in advance everyone.

sdcard is the internal memory with total capacity of the 16gb. capacity includes system partitions. sdcard2 is actually your external removable memory card. sdcard-ext and other derivatives means an ext partition on external. that refers to a separate partition for installing apps to the memory card. usually don't have to worry about ext partitions since majority of everyone installs apps to internal
use the "thanks" if I helped you at all

As I understand it, ext_sd is just a link (not a physical location) on the sd memory. I would always move your files to sdcard2, but you may encounter some apps that don't recognize it and you will have to use ext_sd to access anything there.

Either way at the end of the day they get you to the same place. Most apps will use ext_sd and not sdcard2 though. Either way same place.

Thanks for the help and quick responses. Hopefully it will help others too.
Taking things a step further - As far as application storage goes for apps on the external sd card, is it really that beneficial? Considering (as I understand) we have 3 gee bees of storage specifically for applications and they're data? Especially if I'm running v6 supercharged at 1000hp.
I'm all for optimization. This is just another thing storage related I never completely understood.

internal is usually enough for the majority of your apps unless you have an absurd amount installed. I wouldn't advise using those 3rd party performance scripts and tweaks. usually they do the opposite since the devs who made roms usually tweaked what needed to make the rom perform well so those extras aren't needed. if you still insist just monitor since it could decrease their purpose

[Q] app2sd partioning help

totally new to partitioning my SD card, if i partition the card does the phone automatically use the space when it starts running low or what?
sorry for the newbishness, but any info/guidelines/or link to details on what its about and how to do it would be appreciated.
Thanks
I had a similar question. Is there a good reason to install something like DarkTremor to the EVO 3D? Always seems I am running out of low internal space even though I am always moving apps to sd card.
You ran out of space, even with 1.1GB and then still moving apps to sd? I find that hard to believe. What do you have installed?

I think what he's trying to say is that even with moving apps to sd he keeps filling his internal space back up before getting around to moving everything in the meantime to the SD card manually ...
and we're both looking for a better solution.
DTa2sd symlinks a partition on the sdcard to data. It does not switch over and start installing apps on the sdcard once internal memory is full. Its only good when you have a phone with a small internal memory to begin with. I will look into something that should help with what you want.
BTW: My internal memory is almost full. With the size of some apps and their data it is way to easy to fill up the internal memory. You are not looking at just apps, but also the data associated with them.

Moving apps from external to internal sd

I think I know the problem and I think I know the solution... I've has a search and can't find an easy answer...
I'm getting random reboots from time to time and a few other problems. It looks like it may be an issue with to many apps on my external SD
I'll hold my hand up and admit I have a small problem with apps, I've got 300...
So it's not as simple a task as it may seem. Is there an app to bulk move from external sd to internal?
App2sd can move from external to phone, the I could remove the SD and then move to internal SD. But it would be half an hours boring tedious work.
Thanks.

APP 2 SD problem

Hi can someone please help me out.
i have just inserted a new sd card in my phone,
ive already transferd a few files to it so i no its working.
well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated
can someone help me please
anyone? :/
Could be a copy sdcard card, loads kickin around from China
Also why u need a2sd don't u have enough on phone storage?
No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.
This thread should be closed.
Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

you cant do it again. samsung wont allow this option anymore. you can close this thread
It works. It requires some handywork though on the shelll.
maybe there will be a noob friendly mod soon for those that want to use .sd card for apps?

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.
