Hey Guys I Am About To Buy GS3 And That Will Be My First Ever Smart Phone But I Am Afraid Of That Pink Display Is This The Quality Of GS3 Display Or Just Defected Units? Is This Fixable?
Just recieved my S3. Its not pink, no dark blobs and no streaking. If anything the screen is WAY more accurately white than my S2. Its very close to my calibrated plasma.

aaauggh.
Mine is pink, only had it a few days, now have to figure out how to UN root - set flash count to Zero, and return... PITA!!!
to top that, it is always DIM compared to my SGS2 which is bright and punchy. Event the blacks look blacker! ( no screen protector on either).

Hi,
I just got my i9100, but when I adjust the screen brightness to 0-20%,
the white color will become yellow tint obviously.
Does anyone have the same problem??
or it just happens on my i9100 ???
If it is common, any apps can fix it??
Please help.
Thanks.
Mine is whites are pure white at any angle even at the lowest brightness.
Can anybody else see the yellow tint, if they can it must be a faulty display or maybe you need a firmware upgrade, I dont know.
Hi.
Good luck reading this:

It could be a defective screen. There are some settings that effect the color temperature of the screen. Play with those to see if it helps.
Under Settings>Display>Background Effect, see what's checked and play with the different choices to see if it helps.
Under Settings>Display, see if Auto adjust screen power is checked. Toggle it back and forth and see what that does.
If it still yellow, exchange the phone. If anything, whites tend to run toward a blueish not yellow tint.

I think s/he's saying its the entire screen. That's been reported a few times. Sadly, there seems to be big variations in the color temperatures of the screen from phone to phone.

yes, that is the entire screen, not just part / a section of it.....
the color tone become quite yellow for the whole screen when the brightness is set to 0-20%, but when I set it to >20% brightness, seems there is no such problem.
I think the quality of Samsung screen is very various ....>.<
So i better to exchange for another one?

You should know that it may even be worse...
Do you have the possibility to get another phone for comparison?
I'm returning a SG2 because of it's low brightness and slightly over the top blue hue from viewing angles.
I compared it to my SG2 and it's solid whites from all viewing angles and twice the brightness of the faulty one on the lowest brightness setting.
Checked the settings, made no difference. Compare to a number of SG2, and then you'll know if your phone has a problem with its display.
Anyone noticed that S3 when used with a black wallpaper, its not totally black? Seems that the backlight is still on for blacks compared to S2 which is totally black.
S3 seems kinda grey with black...almost LCD like kinda black.
Do have a try in a dark room. I was surprised. Maybe you too
Will be interested to try this, that slightly greyish hue to blacks was one of the things I disliked about the Nexus screen.
....
I'll be happy with my screen...because it is beautiful and big.... sorry you guys need to find every reason to b*tch about an amazing phone ... I don't examine my phones screen while it shows complete white or black screens in the dark ... I use it and watch people marvel at it.
No one ever says to me, "that has a yellow tint to it from here"
Why do u guys constantly find things wrong with phones.. at this rate you'll never be happy.

It's called being critical. There are a number of things I dislike about my One X. No phone is perfect and if we're not critical and express our dislikes, chances are HTC/Samsung may not fix them with software updates/newer models.
I'm more interested in the potential black clipping issues like on the Galaxy Note. That was unacceptable.

Amoleds don't have a backlight. Has Samsung toned down the black levels to alleviate black crush and clipping issues?

The true test is to turn off the lights and pull up your contact list. The background should be as black as night. If it is, then your wallpaper isn't really black -- find a better one.

can only test it after im home tonight.
just checking if anyone have the same experience.
Both my galaxy s and my s 2 never goes completely black if I watch them in complete darkness. Even when the phone is shutting down and doesn't display anything at all. And strangely enough they emit around the same brightness level. As the phones turn of completely, the hue disappears. Even black areas are being powered and I think it's by design. Or maybe slight component variations.

Ok, thanks for that. My screen is most probably broken then although emahmood87 said that it could be a "feature".
I think that black level is not that great in SGS3 when used in dark room. TBH SGS1 had better blacks.

Hmm, thats +1 to my claim. Had S1 also. No problem with blacks. TBH, you cant really tell when there is light for normal usage. Just that when watch video, you notice gray instead of the usual expected black.

Do the following and u will see the blotches or black ink drops.
I posted this on the sgs 3 in pakistan thread and one person confirmed the issue :
"Download Paint Pro its free and open a black background which covers whole the screen and then go in a dark room.... Can u tell me if there are any black blotches on screen example the screen will be in two tones of black or is it perfect black... this was an issue with two sgs2 which i had and also with galaxy nexus... The resaon its an issue because when u r browsing the web say late at night with screen filter enabled u can actually see the black blotches...."
Secondly the issue was only in sgs 2, note and galaxy nexus...have owned all these mobile.. its not really a big issue just was annoying sometimes... sgs 1 had no such issue

I have this issue on my infuse. Most of them are about 1mm in diameter but the largest one is about 1cm in diameter. I contacted Samsung and they are going to take a look at it.

Black Level? For what? GSMArena said that = 0. My S3 black display is fine but not perfect . Can not be perfect. Super Amoled = best black display.
Hi, I recently bought an Galaxy S3. And i noticed that in the lower quarter of the screen looks a bit "whitier" than the rest of the screen. The rest of the screen doesn't have any colour in particular is just that the white looks more warmer. Before anything i should clarify that is visible looking directly to the screen. The real issue is with a grey background, like the market or the antutu background. That part of the screen looks more blue-ish or darker than the rest.
Well i talked with the salesman who sold me my device. He talked with him supplier and don't consider that the lower tint it's enough for a exchange.
Now, what intrigues me. Is that is only visible on a gray background( market, or antutu for example) But i test the display with *#0*# with the three different colour (blue, green or red) i don't notice any difference on the screen. The same with a white background there is no visible tint.
I really don't know what else to do. Could somebody explain to me why is only visible on grey background and not visible on a pure white screen?
Another question i ask my self. If the the tint is blue-ish. Is due to an over saturation of the blue pixels? If so, can this be "fixable" wearing the blue pixels on that part of the screen?
Thanks.
Try the app "Screen Adjuster" Increasing red and green will make it look less blue. Try it in increments of 5. There will eventually be a color temperature adjuster hack like there is for the Galaxy Nexus.
That helped to hide the effect a little. But the question remains. Which is the cause of the variation of colour temperature on different parts of the screen?

Defective screen. They should replace the phone. Or send it to Samsung for service.
Thats a bad screen I had the exact same problem. There are a cupple of threads here at xda and also on Swedish site swedroid. Some people get an accepted doa . I did not. However in the shipping from the service point to my retailer they broke my phone so I got a refund (lucky me). And my new phone is much, much better!

I think the exact same thing. But the salesman who sold me the phone don't think is a deffective screen because he couldn't saw anything when i showed to him.
The problem is that i couldnt show him concret evidence of this issue with the screen.
There is way to contact with samsung directly?

Hi guys. First of all let me tell this is far the best Android phone ever had.
But....
This is the second GS3 I have, and both of them have that annoying yellow tint on whites. You can see clearly on whatsapp, web, mailing, whites plain backgrounds.
It's also hard to forget, because when I move the screen 15-20 degrees using it the whites magically became real white, perfect white.
A friend has the same issue with his GS3 but he told me he saw in a shop a GS3 with perfetc whites with no tint at all, white as ice.
With my previous GS2's had some very light blue tint that didn't annoyed me at all (insted, I liked that cold whites temperature).
Tried screen adjuster but dind't help
Any of you guys experienced that?
Cheers.
No yellow tint here. Mine is bluish tint. Love the blue tint though.

Let's just say that the type of lighting you are under have a big impact on how you perceive the color temperatures on your phones. Under lighting in my local phone store my phone looks to have neutral white. Under fluorescent lights in my office it looks slightly pinkish. In indirect sunlight it looks yellowish. Under low evening sun it looks bluish.

I have my warranty and the entire box at hand and I need to reassure myself before I head to the service center and request for a replacement. If not, I'll just sell it off.
I'm too, disappointed by the yellow tint that comes with this high res screen. As with others, tilting 20 deg will make the whites cooler. I did a bit of digging and found that there are many different shades of white. The usual white, or at least the one that I'm used to, on my Desire HD, is reddish/pinkish white.
You can do a bit of experimenting by looking at a blank page on SIII for half a minute, then look at another phone. If the white is different, it maybe due to different color casting. This will be particularly annoying still if you have to stare at screen tuned to a different temp at your workplace, and when you are ready to relax and use your phone, wham, you hate your S3 again.
I read a lot of 'black text on white background' and this annoy me as hell. I think that yellowish white make me think I'm reading off a piece of wash out toilet paper.
What do you guys think?
The Gs3 screen is actually 7900 Kelvin color temp which is quite blue! http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Galaxy_S123_ShootOut_1.htm

Mine not for sure. I wish it was bluish like most samoled I had, like GS2.
It's just yellowish instead, and a can see true whites only if I tilt the screen 20 degrees. Seems like a old paper, non beatiful to see.
Gonna return for the second time, but I'm not really confident I will find a GS3 with real whites display like gs2, like I want, like a 600€ 4,8" is supposed to.

Exactly. Nobody that got GS3 with whites real white without tilting the phone up or down?
I am an happy, happy user of a Galaxy Tab 7.7 and have been advising my son to get a SIII as his new smartphone.
Today we went to a shop and there was a table there with 4 of them on display.
All screens showed a definite and unacceptable blue tint.
Given the number of units on display I can only imagine this is not a case of a faulty unit but rather one of those quirks manufacturers like to euphemistically cal "a characteristic of the product".
What is the deal here?...Those displays were completely horrible.
Are you guys OK with that?
