I tried to restore an old image and apparently you cannot restore a froyo rom from an ICS rom. Anyways now it wont get past the vibrant logo, since I backed up my old ICS image, is there any way to access the internal sd card and back up the image before I odin my phone?
Can you boot into recovery at all? If so then you can just restore your ICS backup or ROM.
But really, it looks like Odin time for you. That's ok bc it will afford you a clean install of your next ROM, which is not a bad thing.
Nope all i see is the vibrant logo, and it does not get past that. Is there no way to get to CWM or access the internal sd card if my phone doesn't get past the Vibrant screen?

Do you know how to get into CWR by using the key combos? I assume since you were on ICS that you had Gingerbread Bootloaders? If so the you have to hit the Volume down + power until you see the Vibrant come up and the let go of the Power button (but keep holding on the Vol-) and you shold boot into recovery.
If you are on Froyo Bootloaders, it is the same as above only it is Volume up AND down and power. If you don't know what bl's you are on then we might have a problem. Workable but still a problem. Can you get into download mode? (GB bl = Volu+ and Power*** for Froyo bl see here about half way down with the screen shot of the phone**!**computer)

I know how to get to CWR, but from what I noticed you only get to CWR after you see the rom boot screen, which happens after the vibrant logo. Since I can't get past the vibrant logo I cannot get to the ROM boot screen that means I cannot get to CWR.
As for download mode, I can get there. Is there something I can do in download mode to back up my internal sd card?
Reply quick because I am going to Odin my phone soon! Thanks
Not that I know of but Odin does not erase the internal SD unless you hit masterclear which most Odin versions don't have anymore.
If you can get into Download mode then you should be able to get into CWR. Sometimes when I flash back, it takes me more than a few tries to get into CWR.
Good luck.

I get into recovery by:
making sure the phone is completely off
holding the volume buttons
pressing the power button
waiting for the phone to turn on
release power button right?
I did that and it just hangs on the vibrant logo, or should I wait longer?
I cannot get into download mode anymore! help!

Hi all,
Once again, I've hit a wall with my phone. I apologize ahead of time for the length of this post, but i want to be very clear about what happened so I can get it resolved as soon as possible. Also, I have searched for hours to find an answer to this problem, but I've failed to find anything that helps.
Earlier this week I was running Bionix Fusion 1.1 but with all the buzz on the forums about the new 2.2 ROMs I decided to try one. I downloaded Axura 2.0.5 and backed up everything with Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. I then went through ROM Manager to perform the install. This is were I fear I messed something up. I renamed the .zip file from StockKernelAXURA.zip to update.zip (just like when I installed Bionix). Booted into Clockwork (through ROM Manager) and flashed the zip. Everything looked fine during the install, but I'm stuck at the Vibrant load screen.
I found one solution that uses Odin to reflash back to factory, which I did and everything was great... but then I re-flashed and tried Axura 2.0.5 again using the same method. Now I can't boot up (still stuck on the Vibrant load screen) and I can't enter Download mode. I've tried all kinds of button and usb plug-in sequences. Nothing! Please, I know someone out there is thinking "Noob... this is a simple fix!" I'm hoping that person reads this and can lend a helping hand.
Thanks in advance!
This always works for me take out battery plug in usb to phone and computer hold down volume keys while holding the volume keys place the battery back in this should take you to download mode if it doesn't your phone may be hardware locked there are methods of making a device to force download mode but try what I said first then if that doesn't work at least you have an idea of what else to look for
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
It worked! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I knew there had to be a way I was missing! I'm flashing back to stock (again) and I'm going to try flashing Axura again... but seeing as the method I used has failed twice so far, any advise? I love how Team Whiskey provided detailed instructions for flashing Bionix Fusion... so shouldn't the same process work for different ROMs? Regardless, now I have another trick up my sleeve.
Thanks again!
Flash it through clockwork in rom manager choose install from sd then go to where it is in your phone click on it that should send you to clockwork recovery then go to install.zip from sd then navigate to whatever folder its in then go to it, it should install you dont have to change the name
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
If your unsure about anything I said dont be afraid to ask if I have the answer I'll help you out

I'm assuming you're stuck at cache Just take out your SD card, the large one. I always odin with my sd card out. It gets past that phase where you can get stuck. That will work, and DO NOT rename the {insert rom name here}.zip file to update.zip, just enter clockwork mod recovery and choose install zip from sd card and find it, BUT you NEED to
1. Wipe cache partition
and
2. Wipe DALVIK cache (in advanced menu)
BEFORE installing a rom.

So rather than start new thread I thought id continue on this one saying that I have the same problem only no matter what I do I can not force any mode at all. My phone is currently stuck stating that it is converting data partition to optimize for ext 4.
I really dont know what to do at this point.
I tried the following steps
1. Download all the files required in the "BOOT CYCLE" section of this post.
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
8. Follow steps 4-8 from the "BOOT CYCLE" section.
with no results. It doesnt even give my phone enough time to show the charging indicator it just automaticlaly boots.
OK i got it to go into download mode. i just plugged in the cord and held down the volume rocker.
no recovery mode
I have the same problem I can't get into Recovery mode I have an HTC G2, I was installing a new kernel, then the recovery Mode stop working, Got stuck in HTC Logo.
Any idea how to fix the problem or what's my problem??? i'd already try some tips but nothing works....
try using the vibrant toolbox to flash the new rom

You most likely made that backup when voodoo was disabled and now when you restored it, voodoo was enabled. Try booting up in recovery[VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER then let go of POWER and keep holding VOL UP + VOL DOWN] and installing a voodoo kernel like overstock.
That may be what happened, but dont know anything about the history of the phone. I have tried over and over to get into recovery mode and it wont go past the Vibrant load screen :/
I am also stuck at the vibrant boot screen.
I was trying to update a rom via CWM on my phone, the phone restarted and is now stuck at the vibrant screen.
I have had trouble connecting my vibrant to the computer before. I am not sure that even if i get my phone into dl mode i might not be able to connect to ODIN.
Please help!!
?
thanks !
Im pretty sure if you was on a gb, you would know it.
I don't think gb uses recovery
i guess the easiest way is to flash a gb rom. If you see rainbow, you have froyo bls.
You could always just flash lidroid odin and gaurentee u have gb bootloaders (at leats this is what i was told. if it effs up your phone you are on your own)
i see
vibrant
cyanogenmod7
then an android on a skateboard with a circular arrow going around it
I just flashed a gb bootloader and the difference
is that if you want to enter recovery, you would press voulme - and power button,
also the initial screen i get when i power up my phone is little different? that may only be because of the kernel?im not 100% sure, but the way you'd boot to recovery would be different combo button

Hi, so I think I have bricked my Vibrant, here's what happened. I was running Nero Rom with CWM recovery v2 something. I did a NANdroid backup and flashed CM9 ICS build 12, which upgraded my recovery to v5.5.0. I created a NANDROID backup of CM9 because I wanted to boot back into Nero Rom to save my contacts and text messages. When I hit restore, it failed for some reason, and now my phone is stuck at the Vibrant Screen. I cannot get into download mode, and ODIN does not recognize the phone. The 3-botton combo is not working either.
What I think happened is that the updated CWM recovery v5.5 could not restore the backup created with CWM recovery v2 from NERO rom, and that messed up the phone. How do I go about fixing this mess?
Your phone is not brick. Brick when you see a pc, exclamation mark, and phone or simply black. You can try vol up + power.

Here ya go, always helps me when I brick my Vibrant.
Also, when you're in Odin, I have sometimes gotten it to work with the Phone-Exclamation point-Computer sign that shows you've bricked your phone, instead of Download mode, by just changing the USB port of the cable. Try that and see if it works.
All the posts I have read on bricked phone say that if you see anything at all on the screen you aren't bricked and odin will get you back. The procedure is detailed in the sticky thread in Q&A section.
Thank you for the replies. The problem is I can't get into download mode/recovery mode and ODIN is not detecting the phone. I have uploaded two pics to show you what I mean. The Vibrant screen stays on without the backlight keys working, and if I plug in the USB and then power on with volume +/- keys, then I get the circle which does not spin. Here's the link to the pics.

I would be able to get to stock only if ODIN at least recognized the phone. I think the problem is that the when I tried to restore, it failed due to incompatible recoveries (as mentioned in OP) and then the phone rebooted itself. I think there's no ROM on the phone now, that's why it's not booting.
Any ideas?
Edit: I do not get the screen with the phone-yellow exclamation-pc
Pretty sure you are not bricked. Try these steps:
N00B_IN_N33D said:
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

If you did flash cm9 ics, the three button is different to get recovery. Its vol down, home key,...wait then power. let it loop a coupla times then release. Not the gospel, havent flashed that one but most ics are this way.

I have tried it many times using various methods/combinations but ID:COM doesn't show the yellow box at all, at any time; problem is ODIN is not recognizing the phone when I plug it in.

I was never able to get to recovery on NERO rom or CM9 with any key press combination. I actually had to get ROM Manager and reboot into recovery from there each time. I think its because I have a hardware locked phone.
I have ordered a USB JIG to see if I can force download mode. I tried the one-click unbrick and that didn't work either.
Edit: I think I have definitely messed up either the partition or boot looder on the phone. Need to figure out how to proceed from there.
Do you have Nexus drivers installed?

Okay so i was going to install ICS with the guide, & then, i messed it up during recovery, because before i installed a rom, i accidently restarted my device and nothing was working, so i was like okay, lets flash back to ICS, I flashed the Froyo bootloader back, and then when i try to go back to stock, it has a weird download mode that says "DOWNLOAD RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" and the top right says
"RST_STAT = 0X1
PWIC_IRQ1 = 0X0
PWIC_IRQ2 = 0X0
PWIC_IRQ3 = 0X14
PWIC_STATUS1 = 0XC0
PWIC_STATUS2 = 0X2C"
any help?

It might be your button selection, you are now on froyo, go volume up and plug in usb.
I can get this screen at any time, its a button issue. Try different combinations.

remove battery
replace battery
hold down both volume keys
plug in usb
If this doesnt work you may have to return to recovery and use your nandroid backup, if you have one or reflash a rom on your sd card. Jtag is also an option. Id keep trying to get download.

Yes i understand how to do it, but when i get into recovery and install CWM, it just reboots back to recovery, the original blue one. It does this over and over, it doesn't flash the CWM recovery.
You may need a jtag to force it into download, unless you can get update.zip from the noob giude on you sd card. Reinstall packages needs that version of update.zip to get the green recovery. Have you seen if odin will even recognize it?
I assume when you get the unknown upload, and you long press the power key it returns to recovery
Are you still able to go back and boot up into your ROM that you currently have?

i have the update.zip on my phone, & there is no rom i think? When it boots up its just stuck @ the loading bar on the battery when the chargers plugged in (i need the charger to be plugged in for it to turn on) , so yeah , I can still access the recovery from the stock samsung , but it wont do anything when i install CWM or anything.
& yes , odin can recognize it, but odin wont do anything to it.
When i press start, it just doesnt go anywhere. Odin just like freezes on me..
(sorry these 2 are my accounts, i just logged on the wrong one.)
Sorry, but the only thing I can think of is a jtag. You really cant get do anything until you get into download. You may have had the root update.zip on your sd/card but its gone or changed when you restarted, reinstall packages done 2x should have installed cwm.
I flashed a kernel on my S3 via recovery and then reboot my phone. It goes to a black screen now. When I pull the battery and power on holding volume down to go into recovery the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo keeps appearing and disappearing until I let go of the volume down key. Then it's stuck at the same black screen. When I try to put the phone in download mode to re-flash via odin it does the same thing. I'm pretty sure I'm fu*ked, but I just want to make sure there's not a way to fix this. Any ideas?

Don't worry..i have done worse things with my phone and yet to brick it..
Fist thing to go into recovery you hold vol up + power + home and not vol down..
Second thing what you will have to do is after the Odin flash..press and hold vol up+power+home..you will boot into the stock recovery..from here do a factory reset but mind you all the data on your internal sdcard will be lost when you do this..now reboot your phone..your phone will boot up properly now..assuming that you have flashed the firmware properly in Odin..

As zoot1 replied to you for download mode press vol down+home+power for a few seconds......for recovery vol up+home+power.........
And make very sure the kernel you flash is compatible with your phone and firmware!!!!!!!!!!!! The rest zoot1 explained in his reply

Anyone have an idea what I've done.... Black screen with blue light. I can get to the recovery menu, clockwork is installed, but I can't flash a rom. The only way to get the phone to stay off is by removing the battery.
This is a Cspire L710. I've attempted to flash a Cspire_nandroid_stock zip, the phone will find it but can't open it. I missed a step somewhere I guess. I had it in download mode but made the mistake of trying the factory reset-which changed that.
I've also tried a couple of other roms with the same results.
