Is there any way to make the text on the dialer buttons transparent???

I keep looking online and I just can't find the answer I need, I want to make some text icons with the Comfortaa font to make the rest of my phone, but when I make them they always have their white background and I feel like I've tried everything (notepad, word, CS5, paint.net) and no success. Could someone please explain. Thanks in advance!!!
When you start a new project in cs5, you can make the background transparent.
You could also just grab a template and edit to your liking.

EDIT: I chose transparent but the background still came up when I added then to my homescreen

I have an app I am working on that has a GB style menu, is there any way possible to make the menu in ICS style, so that the words are above each other (you know what I mean)
