Widgets flickering when pressing home - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone havibg this annoying issue? U press home and the weather or any other widget u have on home disappear and comes back in a second. This when u press home.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

Yes this is because of RAM issue.. Available RAM decreases due to background applications running.
This can be oversome by disabling S voice form it settings and turning off all its services from menu>settings>apps
Then restart tge phone, it wjuld be fibe.
If still facing issues, use the nova launcher..

I have s voice from the home button turned off, but how do you totally disable it to free up the ram. My time and weather widgets are always refreshing (disappear and then re appear) constantly.
How and which services do you disable?

i have the same issue

me too.
please help, but without root or any kind of stock modification

[Q] annoying bug in toggle widgets , motorola razr XT910

strange issue happened to me with toggle widgets ( airplane, wifi, bluetooth ..etc)
after rebooting my device these widgets in home screen are disappear !!
I tried to re-add them. I can't !!
also, the space where they should be is not available to add another widget either.( no long press ) i.e. I've now got a dead/unusable space on my home screen. !!
rebooting device ? yes without benefit !!
ok, i find the solution , it's going to home launcher application and clear data. of coure loosing everything you made in your home screen .. but !!
but i have to do this each time i reboot my device because this bug coming after every reboot !!
and this is not a logical solution !!
so any idea to solve this problem ?
ThanX
Stock launcher's fault. I had the same problem with Fifty Two.
ok what are we going to do ? it's really annoying
My 3G toggle switch also periodically disappears. What I find works is if you go into settings and turn all your data on, i.e. wi-fi, 3g, 4g, bluetooth. Then reboot the phone and when it comes back the icons are usually all visible again
use taskiller to kill laucher , togger will appear again
Similar issue occurred today and i fixed it by force stopping the toggle widgets service.

Can you please provide details of how to "force stopping the toggle widgets service"? because I could not find any service or app by that name in Task Manager!!
Please provide the service name and any application that you used to view this service and kill/force stop it?
Thanks
Yeah, Ive been getting this issue. I think Moto should issue an update to fix this bug.

[Q] Home vs Back button

I am confused right now as to what to actually use when trying to close an app. I read that killing an app for RAM doesn't really help. So does this mean that I should just keep pressing the home button even if it leads to a lot of apps piling in the background? What do you do personally?
You can keep pressing back until the app exists, or you can press menu and see if the app has an exit button, or you can just pile apps in the background as you describe it and android will auto kill them when you are running low on ram.
I set the 'hold back button to force kill' option in cm7.
Interesting option, I avoid CM as it is bloated but do you know any other roms with similar function or how to enable it yourself?

Exiting via the back button "kills" an apps. Exiting via home button leaves it running so you can return to it if needed. A taskkiller is pointless as Android will restart a service almost immediately. Stop Maps in Running Services and see it return within 5sec. Lifehacker have some good info on Android taskkillers and why they are fairly pointless.
Sent from a phone with an app.
I use ALWAYS back button, but sometimes keeps running in background so then i use Advanced Task Killer Pro,and DIES.
Depends, browser I use home. Xda app I use back. You just get used to it. Try not to worry about.

I always use back button to closing an app. When you need to go back to an app later, you can use home button
usually back button to don't waste Ram.
I use back button to kill apps by long pressing it (ics final by jusada)...there is option in settings>application>developement> to enable this...NoT sure if its there in any stock rom ..

AFAIK back button should kill the app, there's some cases it doesnt, and home just keeps it on the background.

[Q] delay to Load Menu & Home screen...

Hi developers
i have loading delay on my Sam.GS3
when i use an application or work for 2-3 minutes on setting or ...
and then back to main menu OR press Home key to back to home
i see delay to load shortcuts or widgets, or when wanna back to main menu delay to load apps icons and etc.
i cleared the cache and closed all running apps (but just system apps.)
but still i see delay.
however i had this problem on Xperia Arc, Xperia S but i could free RAM and then i could see that the smartphone work faster and more responsible
BUT now Galaxy S III (however) it has QuadCore processor But i have problem and cannot clear RAM and cache.
what s your opinion and what should i do to have faster mobile and real quadcore access.

U got 2 ways to fix this problem:
1) go to setting-->Developer options-->Window animation scale and Transition animation scale set to off or 0.5x (this should be help)
2) Root your device and install titanium backup, it allow u to freeze apps, like some samsung background apps eg: allshare.etc u can close it through there
then it can save ur ram.
Hope this could help u.
It's a problem with the launcher. Samsung is taking a play out of Apple's book here. They've configured the launcher such that when ram demands are high, regardless of how much free ram is left, the launcher closes so that the current app will run smoothly and the user will be unaware of the decrease in ram. Sadly, not everyone likes this.

You can use another kernel or another rom if you want to try them.

so changing the kernel and rom can effect on speed and performance of device???

U can flash OMEGA rom, for example, which has all the tweaks U will ever need, and it comes with omega kitchen preinstalled, and there U can find different kernels, to improve battery life, mods to reduce home button lag, etc..

But it may not cure your problem 100% .
TRYLag
for the home button lag - disable the home button when pressed for S-voice.
I also got transitions & pop-ups set to 0.5x rather than 1x (in dev options under settings)
Surfing the net pressing home button and find the home screen reloads. So bit of a lag which is very annoying, until samsung sort this out with a software update there is a work around. Simply disable s-voice from.settings that's it. I haven't actually experienced screen reload since.
Let me know if this works for you or not.
Try this
Untick under s-voice settings the following:
Launch S Voice
Wake up command
Under application manager go to running select s-voice and stop all services.
Go to all and disable s-voice. This will remove the app from app draw list too, you can also disable chat on app too.
This should stop the app running in the background.

Home button changed

After f***** jb came onto my phone the home button now exits my app after coming from turned off screen. Hate it! I dont want to enable s-voice because it makes the home button lag... Is there any other way to restore home button behaviour to ICS?

Use the power button instead.
Another option is to disable S-Voice.

Upgrade to a newer JB build. That problem's been fixed for a few weeks, ever since LJ1 or LJ2.

I disagree. I have LJ4 and I have that problem. The only solution I found was to start using the power button instead.
I have this problem also. I am running liquidsmooth rc 7. And i have this also on other roms

Since JB update I have no lag on home button even with S-Voice double tap enabled. Also, the apps are not closing when I wake up the phone with home, only if I have s-voice disabled.

main problem is with no lock screen, this results in the phone return to the home screen when unlocked with home.
if you use a lock it will load that, then the last app, unless you press home just as the screen dims.

I have this also. As you say, with s voice double tap enabled, it doesn't happen.
With nova or apex and no program running it pulls up the screen preview. Extremly annoying.

If you install a custom stock-based ROM with s-voice removed (an option in several ROMs with the Aroma installer), the home button issue does not occur.
I have found that it only works with s voice enabled too.I have found no other way on stock
Screen off automatically ------> before 5 seconds, press home button = app exits and shows your home. It's because your phone locks after 5 seconds after your screen automatically turns off. When it locks after 5 seconds, it will show your lock screen.
My advice for you: stop posting useless threads, post in the firmware's thread. Crying here won't solve and won't make anyone fix it.
I have lock, but I have apps which turns the screen off without locking it. When I press home button the screen is turning instantly and no screen lock. I'm very happy with the Jelly Bean update.

Touchwiz (Home button) delay when ANY accessibility service is ON

.
SEE THIS FIRST:
https://youtu.be/HeD7BeU-aeA
I show just one in the video, but when ANY accessibility service is on, there is a delay in showing the app drawer and a much longer delay showing the home screen. (You will notice some overlapping of app drawer and home screens when the home button is pressed).
Possible time problem started:
CleanMaster / CM Security update
Xposed Framework installation
All removed, problem remains.
GT-N7100 on stock 4.1.2, rooted.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Bump...
Any ideas?
