[NEED GUIDE] Resizing .apks - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, the title says it all. I did a google search but came up with a lot of unanswered xda threads. Does anybdoy know? If they do, could they post a guide? It would help a lot of people!

Bump, anyone?

This may or may not do the trick...I can't try because my Ubuntu is messed up! Here you go...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491689
I'm working on installing it on my Windows PC.

Yes indeed, my tool is able to do resizing.
The point is I don't know what key to sign with xD
I will try and experiment tomorrow

Very cool I already have this tool and tried to resize but it gave me an error. mDroid, does it work on fedora?

Wich error?
I'm not sure...
I can resize APKs for you, I just did one for invasion and that worked.
About fedora:
Open a terminal and type this (w/o quotes):
"python"
Tell me the output
"import gtk
import pygtk"
Give me the FULL output of your new-opened terminal.
Then try to launch the SAP file from my tool.

[Q] editing the build.prop has no effect on Polaroid PMID4311

Hello, I have a few questions concerning the Polaroid PMID4311 (a cheapo 4.3 inch allwinner CPU device running 4.0 my little brother picked up). Fist off let me say I am no noob at android, and have had much experience modding my galaxy player. The problem is he wants to play some Gameloft games (nova 2, asphalt 6), but of course they give infamous "this device is not compatible request a refund" message. So no biggie, I just change the model in build.prop, right? Now here is the mystery; it doesn't make any difference what I change the model to - it still gives the error and still shows the original model under "about device" in system settings. I have done this countless times on other devices with no problem. I have checked the default.prop, and the boot image is insecure (ro.secure=0). The device came rooted. Any thoughts? Also, if anyone has this device, I seem to have lost my backup of the original build.prop, and would appreciate a copy. Thank you!

I use notepad++ on windows, but have also edited it on the device using root explorer. I know this isn't the issue since certain properties will work if I change them (example: I can change the firmware version from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2).

Ok, get root explorer plus, using web. Edit build.prop with text editor. Delete backup. Turn off tablet. Turn back on. Done!

Dude, I'm not an idiot! I have been telling you I have already done this multiple times. I know perfectly well how to edit a build.prop, but what I am saying it's it seems to have no effect on this device for some reason. I really don't need to figure it out anymore since I just edited the apks to remove the compatibly check.

Sorry was more stupid back then get root explorer and edit it once you have done so reboot. If that doesn't work maybe what you are trying to do on there doesn't work look at the experience in my eyes

[Q] Help Please- 70b Internet Tablet-What SDE or ROM to use

Hello Everyone,
I am not new to flashing.
I have an Archos 70b IT.
I have the newest Honeycomb firmware on it.
The SDE from Archos for Gen8 or Gen9 does not work.
I keep getting Update Failed 1 error.
So if someone has this tablet, how did you update it to ICS???
How do I root this thing?
The Specs for the 70b vs. the 70
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-tablet/archos-70b-it-review-part-1-introduction/
***funny note- Archos has this tablet listed under Gen9 in the firmware downloads section. I spoke to their Tech Support and they said it is a Gen8 device. They said there is a JB unit called the 70 Titanium that will be released soon.
Can someone help me here please.
I can't get ADB to work.
Can you tell me what you did or send me the files you are using for ADB?
I would like to root this unit or better put ICS on it.

Hi.
Have you tried to see letama thread about sde for it2 honeycomb?
And see archos website to have adb?
You can have root only on your tab.
All others gen8 systems are not compatible with your tab.

I just can't seem to get ADB to recognize this thing.
I would really appreciate if you can send me your ADB files then.

This site is for people to help each other or so I thought.
I clearly told you that I tried a few times to do it and I could not get it to work. You have the file that can help me get things up and running but you rather not help out.

This Archos section is the least helpful section of XDA that I have encountered thus far. This does not HELP promote getting more people to use or support these devices.
You should do yourself a favor and see how the Samsung community helps each other e.g. this section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41185753#post41185753

I will not share you a file that you can make by a simple command.
For Linux users only: You need to add a udev rule if ADB only works as root:
Create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules that contains the following lines:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device",
ENV{PRODUCT}=="e79/*", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="e79", MODE="0666"
Make the rule known to udev with the following command:
udevadm control --reload-rules (or udevcontrol reload_rules on older systems)

[Q] How to change the list on press action or bg in Xperia U devices?

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to this but I wanted to know how I can change the list pressed animation style in Xperia U? I mean the white background glow on pressing and holding any list button in menus or tabs or buttons, for example see the following photo (attachments), how the background of the notification has turn to white (fading).
I thought there might be a. 9.png file for that, but when I started searching for in the drawable folder of framework-res.apk, I wasn't able to find it?
So I wanna know that am I searching wrongly or there is no such file and just a xml code which I'm not able to get my hands on because of lack of my knowledge of decompiling the apks. I tried decompiling it by apktool but it won't budge. Also to edit pngs I am using a simple technique (posted by a xda user, sorry for not recalling your name but thanks) that is to just open or extract the roms through 7zip and then just copy them back to the respective apk file. This seems to be working as I was able to create my own lockscreen. So please help me in finding where I'm going wrong.
Thanks in advanced...
You must decompile the framework-res.apk and then, search in /drawable-hdpi folder the image. Its name is notification-normal-bg.9.png or something like that. Edit it with photoshop, and, when you have all that you want, compile the framework-res.apk and change it in your phone. Do a backup before do anything.

Modding an Android App - help

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to modding an android app for the first time.
Before, this app worked on Android TV but with the last update, after the splash screen, it closes.
I decompiled the app and I found the points where to intervene to allow the app to start on android tv (skipper technicolor).
Code:
UiModeManager uiModeManager = (UiModeManager) getContext().getSystemService("uimode");
if (VERSION.SDK_INT < 8 || uiModeManager.getCurrentModeType() != 4) {
return false;
}
NexLog.m15032d("NexVideoRenderer", "Running on a TV Device");
return true;
But I don't know how to compile and sign the app to be able to try. I tried with android multitool but when I try to decompile the app I have many errors.
Can anyone help me?
thank you so much!
I just use regular old apktool, myself, but really in order to help I'd need to see the particular errors being thrown.
Also for signing, Venkat Kamesh has a really nice and easy to use tool for Windows called signapk.
