SGS2 as a webcam - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can you use the Front camera (or rear) of the SGS2 as a webcam recognised internally to the phone? So not via USB to a PC.
I have a pc setup to stream product demonstrations for a class via a web page. Its not needed all the time, so instead of a dedicated pc. I’d rather have it via the phone as needed.

Yes, there are apps in the Play sore that do what you want. Just search for "webcam"

EpocCam works really well. Give it a shot.
Good luck!

ah cheers guys. but not quite what im after.
I should have explained it more.
We have a flash based web site thats streams the classes. i would normally log in via laptop and click on start demo and it will activate my laptops (or external) webcam and stream that image. If i log into the same site via opera on my sgs2 , it says it can not find a webcam on my phone.
So is there a way to send the request for a webcam to the sgs2 camera?

I don't think so mate. I haven't come across anything like that so far, so sorry, can't be of much help here.

[Q] Streaming movies from PC to Evo 3D

I don't know if this has been posted yet. I had searched and didn't find anything.
I am trying to stream movies from my PC with windows 7 to the 3D. Every time I search for media devices, it says no devices found. I think I have everything set up on the computer right but it still won't connect.
Thanks in advance!

I thought you can only stream from your phone to PC and not the other way round.
when i'm at home, i just use cifs manager to mount my windows shared folders.
this allows me to play (stream) the videos via wifi as if they were on my sd card
Try to use SimpleSync or Skifta. they seem to work
Make sure that media sharing is on on your computer

Have a look at the guide I wrote a while back. Might just help you out.

PC-> Evo streaming
This isn't exclusive to the evo but Plex is an application that can do it. Just install the computer and android version. After it catalogs your desired folders or entire hard drive it will stream it.
Awesome! Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all the helpful responses!
Now, are there any apps that will allow me to stream movies from my PC at home to my phone at work? Both are connected to wifi.

You could try Orb. Not sure what quality you'd get, not used it for a few years but if memory serves me right it transcodes on the fly to flash format so you can watch movies on your phone via a flash enabled browser. I used it for a bit on a wii before homebrewing it.

Would this allow 3d movies to be steamed? That is really the only thing I would want to steam and I have a ton of them. Way too many to put on my 32GB sd card. I have already filled twice and had to delete a bunch of stuff.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Yeah, I know what you mean about not enough space on a 32gb SD
Thinking about buying one of those 64gb cards.
Tbh I've not tried tversity with this phone yet, but i believe it transcodes to flash, so might work seeing as we can view 3D YouTube vids *shrug*

[Q] How to stream media from my pc to any android device I have?

Hi!
This question has mostly to do with laziness
I have my PC downloading all sorts of media during the day, music, videos, etc...
as far as this discussion goes, all of them are completely legal and DRM-free.
My PC is a Dell laptop (i7-2670QM) running legit Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
I have a Samsung i9000 running ICS, and a B&N Nook Color Running CM7,
I tried reading about RTSP and UPnP and other stuff, but couldn't get my head around it, I'm usually good with computers, except for this case.
What I want to do is to setup a media streaming from my PC to any of my devices.
I don't even want my computer to re-encode the media, just stream it as-is, given that
you can play almost any format on android these days.
Is it possible?
If so, what do I need? can I use VLC, or do I have to setup something more serious?
Thanks,
Eugene

Moving to Q&A
have you tried Remote Media Center?
links over 3g, 4g, or wifi. works with windows 7 media center and allows you to stream content from that media center to your phone.
I would suggest xbmc . It works both on windows and linux. It works as server as well as client. On phone side use "Home Dia" which also works as server as well as client.
minidlna is a very good , smal and handy dlna server for linux.
All these are free.
Is this what u need?

Ok So what you need to stream your music and all sound from your pc or laptop to your phone right? well if so just download the SoundWire on your Android phone, you can get free version and full version in my case i can get all paid apps for free and i can tell u how, but now download that app and then go to download the soundwire server at georgielabs.cjb.net/[/url] install it once installed open the Soundwire server then app the app and enter the server ip showed on ur Soundwire server on ur pc. Im using it with my wifi. so i hope is what u need! take care
Use vlc direct
Edward Cullen
You can simply go on play download free app called "mediahouse upnp" and it will find dlna servers or just use es file explorer which will find any device on your wifi network.

I have tried streaming 720p movies and it is impossible.
Is DLNa/UPnP limited from WiFi/Internet bandwidth?
I calculated that with a speed of 7mpbs it would be easy to stream 720p content. Supposedly the android tv box I have with the router could easily reach more than 7mbps but.. it doesn't! Why??
try ArkMc app use, by DLNA supporting and connect PC as a server and stream to other devices what do you want, video, photos..

HomeDJ is best alternative to any Android streaming apps
Try it.
No firewalls, dynamic playlists, nice GUI, easy to setup.
HomeDJ forum is here:
http://www.homedj.net/forum
or summary here:
http://www.homedj.net
Kinda late to the party here.
But after several moths on trying out various services mentioned here on the thread i found them to be complicated or just to much work to it.
After searching here in XDA i FINALLY found it. It called Tonido. It can stream any file from your PC (also Linux, and Mac) with a secure connection. Trust me try it out your self and you wont be disappointed.
Hope my post can help some out who is looking for such solution...

Stream movies from Phone to Samsung TV wireless? (How to)

Hi guys, just bought a Samsung smart TV and I wanted to know if and how could I stream movies from my phone to the TV Wireless.
I'm currently running Cm9. If there is an app required can someone upload it please.. thanks
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
You need all share to stream stuff on your smart tv. I don't know if all share works with CM9 though. All share is included in the stock Rom, so maybe if you ask somebody he/she will extract it for you do you can try it on CM9
it works on stock
Dont know about CM9, but with the stock rom, you just need to make sure your TV and Phone are connected to the same wifi and then you play your file on your phone. A symbol at the top of the stock player shows a 'choose your player' dialogues and then you choose your TV. Its starts playing either instantly or with a prompt on your tv, depending on your tv setup. I have mine set to auto accept. Works with photos and videos. I have tried with 1080p movies and it works without a problem.
Tv is LG LM670T. 3d smart. its gorgeous
I think most recently manufactured tv hs dlna.
Just search your tv model on Internet then you should be able to find out.
If so, then download bubbleupnp app from play store. You can either set up another server on your computer, which I do, using plex server, which you can download for free for your pc. Or you can use your phone as the server as well.
You can control all the streaming from your pc to your tv or phone to tv right from the bubbleupnp app. Very cool. If you install the extra bubbleupnp server on your computer, you can even stream remotely. Very easy to set up and very cool. Real cool.

If I understand well, you have two options: (1) stock Samsung rom and AllShare Cast (it needs Samsung framework, hence CM will not work) or (2) use DLNA (check if your TV supports it, but I guess so) and one of the apps mentioned above (which will also work in CM as it should support DLNA).

I use VMLite VNC Server. You have to buy it though. It works great! I use it to text using Watsapp on my Mac. :good:
Does anyone know of one that automatically connects to the phone without having to launch the app on the phone first? Maybe it being a background app listening for a connection?
I tried VMlite but it seems to make my phone lag while running.

Try Mobizen.
I don't think it streams sound though and only runs at about 10 frames a second. But you can control your phone without starting the app...AND it works over 3G/4G as well as wifi.
It also only seems to be in portrait mode.

[Q] Using my phone as a Pc monitor

Hey everyone.
I am looking for an app that lets me see my pc screen, just like a monitor would. i know there are some other options like splash screen etc but they are all pretty laggy because they all use internet and they video stream my pc so quality is bad too. while quality is secondary for me lag is deffinetly not so even the program needs me to connect my phone and just works like a monitor without input that would be just fine. isnt there a way to do it? i've heard people do it with their tv i couldnt find anything useful despite searcing for two days.
if you could show me an app that lets me do this with good quality like my phone screen have i would be so happy and pay for the application.
sorry if i am using the wrong section of the forum. thanks in advance
try with iDisplay. I dont have a play store link but just search it. You will then be able to use your phone as pc monitor. You can connect to pc via intetnet or through usb cable
