Hey, i just ran across this app on the play store it costs 24.99$ so i wanted to know if any of you tried it before i purchase it.
Win8 Metro Testbed As you code and debug your Windows 8 Metro app, test it out using an iPad or Android tablet! Get a feel for how your app will behave on a tablet running Windows 8 with touch gestures enabled.
Splashtop is the ONLY app that allows you to experience the Windows 8 Metro UI on an iPad or Android tablet. If you’re a Windows 8 app developer, this is a great way to preview the capabilities of your app on an actual tablet using touch gestures.
Windows 8 Metro touch gestures are supported, so you can take advantage of all the underlying touch capabilities of Windows 8 as you build your app:
Swipe from the right to view the Charms menu Swipe from the left to switch apps Pull down from the top to close an app Swipe slowly from the left to run two apps side-by-side ("snapping") Pinch to navigate files, folders, apps and data with Semantic Zoom And more
Win8 Metro Testbed is a must-have app for anyone who’s trying to build a great Metro style app without incurring the high cost of a Windows tablet!
I'm new to forums so i can't post links so if you wanna learn more google splashtop win8 metro testbed
Tank you

Thank you I've tried it and its not that bad . It would be better if it was fullscreen tho!

I experienced this issue as well. Is not the not-full-screen issue something that has to be fixed by splashtop (will never happen) or is it something we can modify in CM9?

I'd guess it means update the app in play store.
Its sounds very interesting. Does anyone have a link to a video of it running?

Black/Blank Screen
I bought this app as other splashtop ones worked well but this app I just get a Black/Blank Screen. the touch gestures work as you can see them on the PC monitor. I was disappointed as I would have loved to use this app, Have submitted a ticket with them but wont hold my breathe while waiting for a response.
I am using Galaxy Tab 10.1v

My project group for our senior project is developing an Android app. We are pretty much done at this point, but we have to present our app on Friday. We have done a practice presentation with a demo on the emulator, but we would like to present it on my phone.
I was wondering what is the best/easiest way to put my Android display on a PC so we can do our presentation on my phone the way it was meant to be shown.
So it would be my phone connected to a laptop, laptop connected to projector, and laptop displaying my phone's display on the projector.
This way we can also use our GPS location and use the app to take pictures which are both important parts of our presentation.
Do you have a HDMI out port on your Android device? That would work nicely.

And no HDMI port, its a Droid 2.
Since you said you are developing apps, i assume you've done so using eclipse, and if not
then download it. install ADT plugin, make a bogus project,
OR if you already are working in eclipse, open your project, deploy on phone using Ctrl+F11 when your phone is in Debugging mode with ADB daemon running, open DDMS window in eclipse, on the top bar click on "Device" and then on capture screen.
oops, sorry thought you just needed pics for presentation. Remote ADB is your only way then
iDisplay. It works on Mac and PC according to there description. It cost $4.99 though...

Afaik the idisplay was meant to migrate your pc's entire screen onto your Android phones display?wasnt?
as an alternative monitor i say
i remember my LG p970 having a PC app called ' LG on screen phone '(LG OSP) that since i was(am) #### about Smartphones networking solutions, i tried installing it on my low-end toshiba laptop, and it was damn OK and working like a charm likely with 30Fps or more.
then after i ve tried many cross-platform apps like mobo made one for my Htc and sony devices, and neither of them could saticfy me with their stupid qiualities and low frame rate.
i yet have that application. But the question is whether can a dev handle some modification on it to be use on any kinda android devices?
huh... devs are asleep..
got my hp touchpad earlier this week, like webos a lot tbh, but decided to dual boot with alpha 3, being new to android on a tablet i dont know what apps are worth downloading and what works?
any tips on some good apps to make me use the android side of the dual boot?
sadly cm7 is android 2.3 which is a phone os and everything that i would want the tablet version of just runs a high pixel density version of the phone app. unlike honeycomb, ics is open sauce so maybe theres hope for a true android tablet yet.
Oh, there are plenty of apps that are tuned for a tablet display even under 2.3. Here's a list of some of the ones I have installed:
Browsers
Dolphin HD
Opera Mobile
Apps
Evernote
Kaiten (tablet-friendly SMTP/POP/IMAP client)
Business Calendar
Nook (offers two-page reading view in landscape orientation)
Zinio
Netflix
News Readers
Pulse
Taptu
gReader
feedly
YourVersion Tablet
News Republic
Additionally lots of games either have tablet-specific layouts or take advantage of the extra real-estate:
250+ Solitaire
Angry Birds HD/Seasons/Rio (pinch zoom to see the full level)
Cut the Rope
Peggle
Stupid Zombies
Dabble HD
Pocket Legends
Random Mahjong
Majesty
Pinball Ride
There are a few launchers that give a better tablet experience as well, in particular VTL and ADW EX. Both offer dock bars that rotate with the orientation to the bottom of the screen and can be fitted with more than just four or five icons.
Even though they don't have tablet-specific UIs, many other apps do scale up to the larger screen very nicely:
Quickoffice/Documents to Go/OfficeSuite
Kindle/Google Books (unlike Nook, landscape view is single page but still very crisp)
WebEx
Anyway, you get the idea. While there are many apps that use the new Android 3.0+ APIs and therefore won't be available to us until ICS, there are plenty of other apps that give the full tablet experience even on 2.3.

AFAIK there's not a tablet-specific version of Facebook for Android yet, even for 3.0+. There are alternative Facebook clients for Android that may offer a more tablet-like experience, but I think that webOS was the first to get a tablet Facebook app, and then recently they released one for iOS. Nothing for Android yet...

That's what I thought also. Until I got out my old china made hundred dollar tablet with Facebook installed. Sure enough it does have the sliding navigation pane on the left side just like the ios version. I copied the apk on the touchpad and I lost the left pane navigation. I think fb app see the touchpad as a phone, so it doesn't show the left nav pane.

no i didnt. i thought it was still closed source.
i still want alot of tablet versions of apps that dont appear. such as swype and googles apps. honeycomb and ics also give better understanding to a tablet without home menus and back buttons.
Don't use facebook app, it's fat. Friend caster for facebook has a tablet view!
i did install netflix and evernote and both are running tablet versions different from the phone. the tablet version of evernote is actually quite impressive. its amazing that netflix is plays video so smooth compared to the strange laggyness of everything else.
Just got CM on my Touchpad and noticed Netflix has a tablet UI on the Touchpad different from the UI I get on my phone with the same version. The Touchpad has a nice working tablet UI. Pretty nice considering there is no Netflix support in WebOS.
Also Firefox just released an update with a new tablet UI. By default it goes to a phone UI, but any Firefox user knows its easy to change settings. Simply go to "about:config" in the address bar and change "browser.ui.layout.tablet" from "-1" (Auto) to 1 (Enabled). This will force Firefox to use the tablet UI even though it auto-detected a phone. Also useful is adding the string "general.useragent.override" with value "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1" to spoof a desktop user agent.
I have a spare al-cheapo Toshiba netbook that I bought on Black Friday.
($143 + 5 hours of waiting in 27-degree temp) It came with Windows 7
but I managed to get rid of it and install a slimmed-down Windows XP.
The Windows XP OS only takes up 1.3GB of hard drive space, since all
the non-essential junk were all taken out one by one.
now that I have Android running fairly smoothly on my Touchpad, I can't
help but wonder.... is it possible to run Windows XP on the Touchpad?
thanks!
No, XP needs an Intel / AMD processor, and will not run on an ARM processor as in the Touchpad.
Win 7 > Win XP
I wholeheartedly agree that Win7>WinXP and that WinXP needs x86 chip architecture (as opposed to the ARM architecture in the touchpad). However, you can use splashtop remote desktop to access your netbook remotely through the touchpad. You install it on your netbook then you download the app on your touchpad. The app is 5 bucks through the market, but if you hurry you can get it for free through getjar (kinda like the amazon app store, google it).
as they told you, winxip and win7 require an x86 architeture while touchpad's is ARM, probably we will be able to run win8 when they will release the arm compiled version (in late 2012?)
Up until now Windows has been x86/64 based. Windows 8 will be arm based so there is hope, but the touchpad does make a good remote desktop client since the 1024*768 resolution is commonly used in windows

Hey man, I am glad I have been able to help. I am not a dev, so I try to help wherever I can. I purchased it when it came out for WebOS (before we had android) and really liked it. I was unaware that it was an old version (I have not used it yet since I got it from getjar), but either way, crazy good app that is very useful
so i did a search but i'm not really sure how this category of app works. im basically looking for an app that will let me do stuff on the desktop, through my phone. for example, i could be lying on the bed, and i use my phone to open a page on the desktop and play some music(through the desktop speakers). is this even possible?

as long as you have a google account and you register it, you can actually connect to your PC through 3g network anywhere. I feel that it's kind of hard to use at the moment, but they are coming out with a new version soon so hope that helps.

For simple control, there's always VNC (and there's definitely at least one viewer for Android). If you're still running GNOME, it had (has? I don't know about GNOME 3 *shudder*) an integrated VNC server in the form of Vinagre. Else there's x11vnc. Unlike with Team Viewer, though, you get to have the fun of port forwarding etc. yourself if you wish to use it to control your computer outside of your home network.
Log me in is by far the superior alternative. Multiple PC's from anywhere.
Tips for the best remote desktop app for Windows running on a Nexus 9?
What exactly do you mean? Being able to connect to a system running windows via windows remote desktop?
Or connecting to your device via windows remote desktop?
For the first one.. hooow about... something by M$? Like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.rdc.android
For the latter: I don't know if this works at all. It's hard enough to get it running properly on a non-windows-system. (XRDP for linux) Android? No way.
Cheers.
Thanks, meant the first alternative.

I can highly recommend you Splashtop!
If you want to remote games I would recommend you limelight!
Try Google Chrome Remote, or Teamviewer.
Teamviewer works incredibly well for me. I have it on all my windows machines and my Android phone and tablet. Makes remote access a breeze!
Splashtop works with N7 Flo running latest L preview. I have Windows 7 on PC. Love Splashtop.

VNC too
The Microsoft RDP Client on Android L works really well, especially with Windows 10.
You can actually use win+shift+left/right to switch desktops quite easily on the MS RDP client on Android.
On a Nexus 9 however the default resolution could make desktop items look too small.
My humble opinion is that Microsoft should update their RDP client on Android to
allow for a few different resolution settings
allow hiding of the top navigation toolbar
allow optimization preferences for slower networks
take back win+tab and alt+tab from Android selectively
I know they are dealing with some technical limitations/hurdles and possibly some political ones.
But that's how I see it.
i liked splashtop at the start, i purchased the premium paid versions of their phone/tablet versions. Then they started to change their tune and seek more money from me. I sinced moved to team viewer and have it on approximately 6 MS computers as well as 3 phones/tablets. It works a treat and have not had to pay a cent. Connection is rather smooth but does have its issues. I mostly use it to grab files off a device while away or for a quick debug, nothing graphic intensive anyway

Wow! I thought they were $30. when released (didn't have the slingbox then). The ipad one works great but haven't read very great reviews on the Slingbox on N7 Flo.
You scored one there! :good:

I like Chrome Remote Desktop since I have macs and pc's that I remote into. Once the N9 gets here I'll try the new windows remote desktop app (RD Client Beta). I tried it on my phone and it looked pretty nice. JUMP is also pretty nice.
As a Windows admin I use Jump Desktop. It supports Win8 & Srv2012R2 touch features plus it allows custom resolutions and the use of RemoteDesktop gateway. Very good program!
