That's just a link to another thread in Off Topic, but it has the link/video showing Nokia Sleeping Screen.
I used to own a Nokia C6-01 with this feature and let me tell you - it was NICE! Since we don't have an LED and apparently there's issues with BLN and wakelocks maybe this could be implemented instead. Think about it.. our screen is a bunch of LEDs - let's utilize it!! The NSS would shut off when the phone was in your pocket as well - but as soon as I put the device on a table it would appear - very slick.
This sounds like a great idea, but I would think it would be a battery drainer. I have used NoLED for a bit, and noticed it kills my battery; forgive me if I'm wrong, but they seem to be similar.
If a dev could somehow implement something similar to Nokia's sleep screen while preserving battery life, I would not mind paying for this at all!
Anything that turns the screen on will drain even more battery than BLN wakelocking.
google chrome just alerted me when i went to the link....

not your fault. firefox didnt pick it up. it might not even have anything malicious, but in my 2 year stint with google chrome it has never led me wrong
just alerting anyone that might need to know.
It's probably because Nokia phones got excellent battery life to begin with and don't really have that many functions so you never noticed a difference.
Any additional screen on time would be detrimental to the battery life. For me, it seems kind of silly to have the screen wake when the phone sits in my pocket the vast majority of the time.

The C6-01 barely had better battery life than this phone. I just thought it was a slick feature it was very useful.

How do you know when you get a missed call or text? I find that waking the phone s much as I do during the day to check these things would warrant a large benefit from a feature like NSS and it did for me!

I hear it!
With the audible notification, I can even tell if its a SMS, e-mail or calender reminder by the tone.
I don't see how having my screen constantly on is better than checking you screen to see if you have any notification (especially when I usually can hear incoming notifications and only have to check if I have been away from my phone in a loud place).
Don't get me wrong it's kinda cool and looks pretty, but I don't see it being super useful or practical from a batter power standpoint.

I don't thunk you realize how little power this is drawing. And I could hear mine as well but I don't keep my phone by my side all day long. To each their own. I know the people who use nss love it you can't deny that fact.

Hello,
I just got the HTC One X+ from ATT. On my old Atrix I used it to listen to the radio through TuneIn or iHeartRadio all day at work.
Since I got the One X, it seems to lose its data connection a couple of minutes after the phone goes into lock, especially if I get an email notification. I've turned off the power saver setting and even unchecked the power saver options.
Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a fix? Do any of the custom ROMs fix this? I've rooted it using the AIOTK, but that didn't help.
Thanks,
Simon

This happens on all AT&T devices that I know of. My personal opinion is it's the quality (or lack there of) in AT&T SIM cards.

Hmm...
It didn't happen on my Atrix running CM9, so I thought that it may have been a setting somewhere. Every time I unlock the phone the streaming picks up automatically.

It started and seemingly has remained to AT&Ts micro SIMs. I have had it happen on my iPhone 4 One X and One X+ all of which use micro sims
Have you heard about it happening on other networks?
Check if you have disabled Power Save mode, it turns all data off while in standby (screen off).

Interestingly my phone dropped to edge for some unknown reason and I wasn't having any problems. I rebooted to get back to 4G and suddenly the problems started occurring again. This is my first true 4G phone, the Atrix was HSPDA+ (or whatever). Maybe its a network issue?

I'm pretty sure it is NOT a micro sim issue. Probably has to to with HTC/ATT wanting to save as much battery as possible. Same reason they changed the multitasking, saves battery. Have you called support about it? That is a genuine complaint, it shouldnt happen.

Not yet, I thought I'd post here where I might actually get help.
I have this issue as well, and I'm pretty sure it's not an ATT specific issue since I never had the issue on my HTC Inspire 4G (DHD). Not when it had stock gingerbread, not on ICS, and not on JB. first time I've ever had the issue was on this device. I suppose it could be something specific to LTE, but that'd strike me as odd since bandwidth doesn't appear to be an issue on it, and streaming music doesn't take much. Like, 192kbps music stream out of the 45mbps I typically get in my area.

I stream music in my car over LTE to my BT radio and I don't have any problems for hours. Do you have an android market task killer or battery optimizer installed?

Me too. I didn't have any issues with my previous phone, but it didn't have LTE. It's hard to narrow down exactly whats happening.

No, I don't now and I didn't before I rooted it either. I will probably take it into an ATT store tomorrow and see what they say.

Lol, they won't be any help. Since you're already rooted, I would try another ROM to see if it happens.

Perhaps this is an HSPA connectivity issue. OP, are you on LTE or HSPA when this typically happens?
I noticed that this happens with the WiFi signal as well.
Hello all
I got word from a friend that this app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.BoshBashStudios.batterydoctorrepair ) worked for him. I tried it, and it claims to "reactivate" the battery cells so they work again.
I know Li-ion batteries have cells, but is there really a way for a Java-made app to access them and alter them so easily? seems like a scam to me, but I wanted to ask because who knows, it could be similar to what the fstrim command does and such. You know, to ask the experts.
Any comments are welcome
I tried the app and so far the battery life seems the same for me maybe because I only had 2 inactive cells but idk it may or may not help and white activating the cells the battery drains a bit too so don't really know if its working or not
Nah i dont think so it works.Has a lot of ads just a way of earning..

This app is pure baloney, you can't programmatically improve battery life without disabling services, quitting apps, underclocking, undervolting, or disabling hardware. When I first got the app, it said there were problems with the battery and then it fixed them. It never said there were any problems again after that. But Then.... I had to factory reset my phone a couple of times and every time I factory resetter my phone ,the app says there is a problem with the battery. But it never said again there was a problem until I had to do the restore again. So obviously this app only says there is problems with your battery if it thinks you have been using this app for the first time. So obviously a gimmick app for the gullible. I would uninstall it and give it a 1 star on Google Play.
My phone has been over heating. A LOT. Even with basic use. No gaming or anything. Anyone experience this? I called tech and they were no help. Told me to run in safe mode and remove my SD card..... Ya that won't work for me.
Thinking about full wipe but I dread resetting up everything.

I haven't had any issues like that. Only over heading I experienced were while using car navigation while wireless charging. You can try shopping cache plus restart to see if something is stuck, or if you have a new installation freeze that and see if things get better.
Another thing to look at is detailed battery use, see if there is any surprises. Many times the app that causes heating will also cause faster battery drain. If you can't find the app then full wipe may be needed.
Edit: one other question, did you change case recently? some cases don't transfer heat as well.
I did. A lot. Got to the point that I could take one picture and the camera would shut off because it was over heating. Hard reset didn't fix anything. I also had wireless problems (wifi would never stay off, airplane mode didn't work), and battery life was pretty poor (coming from Note 2). Replacement phone seems much better on all counts.
Thanks for the info guys. No case on the phone. Still working on rooting and playing with Xposed.... Maybe something there will help.... Or just have Verizon send a new one. I really do love this phone... So hopefully I can resolve this.... Maybe lollipop will help... If we ever get it....

Update
So had Verizon send me a new phone..... Have had it a day and a half and have already seen signs of over heating...... Granted it's close to 100 outside..... But I've been in the car with AC using GPS and it was getting really warm. I've had SEVERAL other phones with the same or more heavy usage with no over heating issues......
Not sure what to do. If it keeps up I'm going to have to consider a new phone....
Anyone know of any risks using the phone when it's over heating??? It's not going to explode or catch fire is it???

Same here. I can use the camera on this one but this is annoying. Might sell and go back to my trusty Note 2 that still hasn't sold anyway.
Anybody find any workarounds (besides the tin-foil inside the case thing)? I get camera shut-down after just playing around with the various modes without even recording anything. Thinking about getting an ice-pack to mount on the phone when I want to record videos......

I was having the overheat issue when I used the camera, so i downloaded the google camera app and it seems to work better.
My wife and I got refurbished phones from VZW, her's crashes to home screen now (Camera) and mine works for a few minutes longer than the old one.
Right now I am looking into getting a new phone, this one is getting annoying, want something I can get current Android version on and not a year old unpatched (Stagefright) leak that is not even Marshmallow.

Several things can cause a rise in temperature. Multiple apps running, using browser with multiple tabs open or high data usage. Also games can cause heating. It's probably normal but keep an eye on it for a bit.
