Blocking calls? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hello
In my SGS there was an option in the call menu where you could block someone just writing the person's phone number but I cant seem to find this option in RAZR? I am running stock 2.3.6. Any help?
Or do I need to use 3rd party app?

I miss that feature that my old Samsung Vibrant had.
I currently use Extreme Call Blocker. Its a great app and has a lot of options.

Great to hear, I will using some app until ICS arrives, thanks!

Others have pretty much covered it. But need be in your Verizon account settings you can also add numbers to blacklist straight through vzw. The party trying to call you will get a blocked message. It also blocks them from texting you too.

True story. I was going to post this earlier. The only limitation to this is that there is a time limit using this method. I think it only works for 30 days (maybe 90, I don't recall), then you have to set up the number(s) you want blocked again.

You can also only block 5 numbers through VZW's website. I copied and pasted this from VZW.
"You can block calls and message from up to 5 phone numbers at no charge.
Expiration. Blocks expire after 90 days. Be sure to reapply the block if you wish to continue the service restriction. To permanently block numbers, subscribe to Usage Controls*.
Limitations. You cannot block numbers within your account or non-10 digit numbers such as 911, 411 or #MIN (checks minutes used).
Unblocking. To unblock a number, highlight and delete the number, then click "Submit"."

trying this app

You can use blocking call apps
There are many blocking call apps ob the store, such as WhosCall, Mr Number, Call Blocker and so on.
The Mr Number is great for use since its UI is friendly, but it would automatically upload your phone number. I don't like this kind of privacy action.
So I mostly use WhosCall, it could block the sms, call, and it could help me search the number not in my contact.
Hope these information can help you

Root call blocker use alt block, hands down best app on market. I paid for it!

u first must have it as a contact. find the contact press the menu button and select drop calls from this number. it has it on ics but i am sure that it had it on gb. the point is that u must have that number as a contact and u dont need any app to drop its calls

Use avast firewall for blocking sms/mms n calls.

I have used until now.. and I loved both. The Call Blocker is simply blocking calls and sms from certain number.
The Sanity, beyond blocking calls, it can record them either! Not worked on my Droid Razr, but worked on the Galaxys

I installed China JB and it has a system application called Firewall, you can use it to block calls.

Did you know that you can add MUTE RING TONE application in extreme blocker.Beacuse call the app says to take the first ring-tone that is MUTE but-not, phone rings when a call is blocked number. Or that there are ways to insert a mute tone ring manually.

What a silly solution. Just use Root Call Blocker.

[Q] Skype alternative?

I used to use Fring but that was just complete crap as far as call quality went... so, i've been using Skype lately.
the problem with Skype is that the call quality is still a bit "crappy" here & there + the latest update keeps pestering me to re-install it at least once a day(wtf?)
is there anything else out there that i can use on my Thunderbolt that has decent call quality, call land lines as well as get a phone # assigned to me for people to call me?
I use Tango and Qik all the time. They both work well.

i didn't bother with Qik as i'm not interested in video calling & Tango says it's a "free" app that's for making calls to other Tango users.
thanks for trying though.

If you have a google voice number and account then look at GrooveIP. i suggest you be in strong 3G or 4G coverage for it to work well
Google talk. Its free, better Quality then skype and works with every rom, can use wifi OR data. Search for gtalk 1.3 dowloader in market.
Google voice is free, as good of quality as my regular verizon line. Sets up on your celly, lets you choose which line to use to make calls, and you can foward your cell number to your gvoice vvmail box so you dont have to check 2 vm box's

It sounds like google voice is what your looking for, if you use gmail, google +, voice and talk all work together in your gmail act. Which just makes things so much easier. And its all free. You need separate apps to do each thing on your phone for now, but im hoping they integrate them all into g+ soon.

i ended up finding that gtalk via a google search and downloaded it from here. i tried to install it but apparently it isnt for AOSP ROMs.
as for google voice, i just tried that but it seems its just a voicemail management system and for making international calls. both i dont care to do.
oh well. ;(
I use it as my normal number all the time. I have a cali celly number but live in colo, so my gvoive number is my local colo number which i use all the time.

sorry but, when i installed it it was asking about managing my voicemail & then asking if i wanted it set as the default device for making international calls. it then dropped me into some sort of inbox and there were no call options anywhere. i did a google search on it but i just found info on how to use it on your desktop. i guess i'll have to attempt to find more information on the app. i just wish it was more user-friendly.
p.s. noticed a lot of negative feedback on it in market complaining about it being an unfinished app.

i got Google Voice up & running yesterday & had been using it to make/receive a few calls. i just checked my minute usage though it seems Google Voice DOES use your minutes(confirmed it on google's site also).
Apparently there's a trick to actually getting it for free but requires downloading a few other apps from market and registering on some gizmo5 website(that seems to be down).
so itseems Skype is my best choice after all.

How Much Spam do You Guys Get and What are You Doing About it?

Recently I've been getting tons of phone call spam, and it's getting outta control.
Basically I'm seeing numbers like:
7829105866
7436694122
ETC...
No messages left, and when you pickup the phone there's nobody on the other end.
Honestly I don't know what caused this. I do light surfing on my phone. (no porn, casino, ETC...) I usually install apps that I only pay for from the Market, and I usually only install what I need. I do have an unlocked BL & rooted Atrix (currently on stock 2.3.6).
I'm getting somewhere between 3-10 calls a day, and it's getting frustrating! I've been dabbling around lately with call blockers, but will probably need to spend more time researching them.
Anywhoo... Anybody else here dealing with the call spam as well? If so how much, and what are you doing about it?... (Call Blockers?, Antivirus?, Firewalls?)

Probably a better place to take this inquiry is to your provider. An app on the phone would not fix the underlying issue.

I've been picking away at different call blockers, but striking out since calls are still getting through. All this BS shortly happened after I rooted my phone, (needed to use a new root method) and it appears that these calls are coming from India.
So I'm not sure if I should stay rooted, unroot, or find a new root method?...
Simple in cm7 settings there is an option to block number so no more missed calls and **** (i am sure there is an app for that too) and for sms spam.control install go sms and block the numbers there too, i am sure u just block numbers and soon they will run out of numbers

I get a few spam calls each month. All from a cruise company. To combat it, I created a spam contact and add all spam calls to that contact, then just ignore calls that show as that contact. Pretty easy.

Thanks... Haven't gone the CM7 route yet. I'm not sure if flashing CM7 would be a solution to me though, since each one of these calls has been from a different number. I don't know if it's spoofed or what, but I don't know if these numbers are ever gonna run out.
The only thing I got to work is using a 3rd party app to "somewhat" block calls not in my contacts list. Phone still rings first. Unfortunately I still need to receive calls outside of my contact list for work. Probably the only "solution" that would work for now is if I could block out any call outside of the US, and also not ringing my phone when blocked. (since these calls seem to be coming from India on Google searches) I'm not sure if such a solution exists...

You have to pay for blocking with AT&T, and then its limited to only a few numbers. They wont arbitrarily block numbers. I would google the numbers. If they're spam you'll find threads about them. There are apps which block numbers not in your contact list and don't ring 1st. That would work for you for time being. You probably signed up for something where you input your number without thinking. I will try to find app I know about when I get home.

Search Mr. Number in the market. It has the option to send all non-contact calls straight to voicemail (and many other options). So long as you make sure your voicemail notification is silent, you should be set. If these spam calls are conistently blank, I assume they won't even leave a voicemail.

I've been getting a lot of calls recently from random 877 and 360 area code numbers...not sure why but it's pretty annoying
I've gotten all kinds of calls from political candidates to timeshares calls. I have had this problem for a while so I started adding all those numbers to a generic contact (I called mine "Bad People"). I tried all kinds of apps but none worked well. I found that right in the Android contact list, there is an option to send contact straight to voice mail. I can confirm it on both CM7 and CM9, pretty sure blur had it but not 100%. I'm on CM9 right now and when you select the contact that option is available when you hit the menu button, it is not available when you are editing the contact.
Additionally, I was getting calls from "Unknown" callers which is also very annoying, to beat this I added a contact with the name "Unknown" and selected the option for that contact to go straight to voicemail and that has seemed to work. It went from 3 or 4 unknown calls a day to 0 and if it was a real person, they could always leave a message.
As a heads up, I had over 120 numbers on my fake contact and my phone was having a lot of trouble (adding, syncing and blocking), so I broke that one contact into 3 fake contacts, 50 numbers per fake contact seems to work pretty well, just make sure you send all 3 voicemail.
Also if you flash a new rom to your phone, you will have to go to the fake contact and check the box to send them back to voicemail, but that's easy to do.

That's the one I've been trying out right now. The jury is still out about that one, since the only way that it works well is if I block all numbers not in my contacts, but that isn't doable for work.
The frustrating part is that I am not getting the same number, it's "random" numbers and no number is the same when it calls. They all appear to be coming from India. If I can find a program that blocks all calls outside the US, it would be perfect...
Great solution actually.
Do you think the block list size caused problems?

[APP] Root Call Blocker - need some feedback please

Hi guys, Im the dev of Root Call Blocker, a powerful blocking solution. There have been a few reports of people experiencing issues with the LTE data connection on the EVO, which i dont have.
Could someone please let me know if this is indeed the case?
If you do find an issue please follow this procedure:
- as soon as you spot the radio without a data connection (not after a call) send logs through the "Write to us" item in Settings
- once youve sent the report, try using the Debugging tools found in settings
- if the tools do not help, please send another report - this will still help me track issues
Thanks in advance, PR after the break

I've owned this app since the evo 4g. Now i have the LTE. I'm not exactly sure what your saying is happening here but, my radio does flake out sometimes. No cell signal at all. The only way to get it back is a reboot. Switching to roam and back or toggling airplane mode fails to bring back the signal. I rooted and installed this app a few days after I got my phone. I've seen this happen about 3 times in the last 2 months. don't know if this issue you refer to or not?

It all depends on how your carriers vm works. I suggest you try all the reject methods and see for yourself. Also, dont forget to study the way the reject methods correspond to call forwarding (ie, with no vm, the "reject" method in conjunction with "forward when busy" can be used to send incoming calls to a disconnected number).

It all depends on your provider. If all send to VM, try the ones in call master, they are slightly different. If all else fails, contact your operator and see what VM settings they will allow you to change.
Anything to report re the recently added features?
Any issues with the JB update?

Titanium Backup has a feature called App Profiles which basically allows you to have "two (or more) instances" of an app installed on your device. So you would create a new profile for WhatsApp and sign in with your 2nd number. Then if you want to go back to the 1st number, just switch back to the first profile.
Buy another phone

Is it something like SwitchMe? Like you havee two completely different profiles or just the profiles for app itself?
Ill give it a try, thanks
Back at my iphone days, ios used to have a script called "appdub" which allowed many instances of any app. That was pretty neat.
I had 2 whatsapps for example. I wass also dubbing games for my brothers use, so we both used to own game profiles for ourselves.
An app installs itself to data/app/..... any version of the same app does exactly name itself over existing one. I suppose if I can merely change installation name even by a letter, I shall have two set ups (well that also needs a change in data folder name, but if one of aforementioned is possible, the later shall also be)

here is the chronology:
A01 = my register number for whatsapp since 2011 this number is on my old phone that's have a better battery backup (just incase)
when on wifi network i usually airplane mode my n7100, but it's also work with data network mode
just enter A01 to the whatsapp when u do the first setup with it.
then whatsapp will ask for verification code that u get from sms. wait for the sms (not more then 1 minute for me), when u receive the verification code, simply enter the code to the box. voila.. u can use whatsapp with different number on a phone that attached a different number too.
if ur register number is on a smartphone with a active whatsapp, then it will be log out automatically at the time u receive or send a message.
i have do this many times, because have flashing many times.
my whatsapp number journey: nokia 5800 <--> xperia sola <--> n7100 <---- while the register number still attached in my SE w880i
i also done it with line, wechat and chat on(no use anymore) all of them use the same number as in SE w880i

This. Works great and it's free.
Is it difficult to setup?
I don't want another phone number; don't want someone calling me through google number.
Is there a way to just use Voice as the voicemail service and still have people call me at my normal phone number?

I did; tested it from office phone and it went right to it.
I love how I can listen to my messages or read transcript from web or phone.
This is awesome.

I'm loving the Google voice. The only issue I have is that transcript is not instant. I have to click on VM and wait for it to load. I'm going to probably disable it because it's not very good. I don't really care for it. Overall this is awesome. I can't believe I never used it before.
