Got this Rom running last night and I see that it is based on Cleanrom 2.1 which mentions that Wifi Tether was added.
I'm not sure if its supposed to work or was stripped on De-Sensed but whenever I try to turn it on it just grays out and I can't do anything with it. This is the wifi tethering settings in the mobile networks options... I don't see a specific app anywhere. No place for routing or the galaxy nexus options listed in the Cleanrom thread either.
Is this normal or is something wrong?

You'd need to download the wifi-tether app from code.google.com and I believe the version used in CR2.1 is 3.1 beta11. I don't know if Scott did anything else to the app or not. But grab the app, use the settings...should work..??
Keep in mind, there are settings that work good.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) profile and setup Netd seems to make WiFi tether app function great.
Sent from my Rezound running CleanRom 2.1 ICS.
To the OP...Wireless Tether is not a system app. The built-in tethering does not work.
Do this:

When you install it go to settings and change the device to Galaxy Nexus LTE and enable "Routing Fix".
I have heard setting up an a password for encryption will not allow this to work so using "access control" works for the time being to restrict who can access the network generated by your phone.
EDIT: THIS thread may be more help to you.

As others has stated get the wireless tether app and hit the menu button after you open the tether app go into settings and change device to galaxy nexus and also check the routing fix and you should be good to go,I'm useing it on a stock rooted rom and it works great.
What's weird, is I can't get my xp machine to connect at all. All my other devices work just fine, but I can't figure out what's going on with my laptop and why it won't connect to wifi tether, as it connects just fine to other wireless networks.
I've tried everything too, but to no avail, any have any ideas?
I flashed Scott's Cleanrom ICS 4.2 and followed his instructions for the wireless tether.
When I go through all of that shouldn't I be able to go online with my laptop through the wireless tether on the phone? When I go into the available wifi networks my phone doesn't show up on the list.
Am I not understanding how this works?
Thanks-Dan

Well, the answer is.... yes, probably. I'm not running that ROM at the moment, but ICS gave us the ability to tether in infrastructure mode, rather than merely ad hoc.
Having said that, there are variables out there that may be causing the issues you are having. I'm sure you have double-checked the settings and have set up wireless tether per Scott's instructions. So, here are your options (IMHO):
1) Try to find another tether app (such as Barnacle) to see if that might work.
2) Try to find an updated or different version of WiFi Tether.
3) Try the many different settings in WiFi Tether to see if they work for you.
4) Try a different ICS ROM to see if it works for you. (RezROM ICS does work for me)
5) Pay for Verizon's Hot Spot.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. I will triple-check all the settings again and go from there.
I had a similar problem - I was unable to see my wifi network until I renamed it.

TRY THIS
Go to www.downloadandroidrom.com scroll down to apk and click on it.
Next click on wifiteather.
Next click on wifi_teather_v3_0-pre14.apk
Close to the bottom of the page will be a Download Here link click on it.
If your using a PC place it on the root of the sd card if your using your phone make sure unknown sources is checked in the settings>applications menu.
Next go to the market and download and install apk installer.
Open apk installer on your phone and click on <ext_sd>
Next click on wifi_teather_v3_0-pre14.apk and click install.
After it installs click open and go to the menu sceen.
Go to settings and check Routing fix.
Next click on the access control and press on enable.
next click on the main screen to start wifi tether and click allow access from superuser.
Now check your wifi on your computer Android Tether should come up click connect.
Now on your phone go back to access control and your computer name should come up.
Click on your computer name and click apply on the bottom of the screen.
This sounds like a lot but it works.
Thanks guys, I had to rename the network and set the security. I thought I could just leave it unsecured but I guess not. It works now...
Thats good I never had to do that. But that is the only reason why I rooted my phone was for the wifi tether.
But ...
... Do any these options allow other mobile devices to see your hotspot? I'm running stock on my rooted Rezound. I tried WiFi / Wireless Tether, Barnacle, Open Garden, etc ... They let my laptop connect, but not mobile devices. I actually like Sense, and I don't really want to bother with other ROMs right now ...
Any ideas?

The only two ways I was able to achieve wireless tether with infracture mode was to buy the vzw hotspot feature and / or install an ICS ROM. I can attest that RezROM ICS handles the free wireless tether app flawlessly for me (after which I killed the VZW premium service).

i had issues trying to get devices to connect to the phone when using version 3 of wifi tether... so i scoured the net and found an .apk for version 2.x and now everything is working fine... that was an OG evo not an LTE though
My issue was fixed after I updated the device profile to Generic ICS in settings.

Make sure you are using this tether app. Like others have said, make sure you go into settings> Generic ICS for profile.
If that alone doesn't fix it, try checking 'MMS clamping' and 'Routing fix'. Make sure to also 'forget' the access point on your transformer before trying to connect again. This works awesome for me and my Nexus 7.

Just remembered that another issue I had, not sure if it would pertain to you, was the wireless adapter my computer was using. My laptop would connect without issue but PC that was using an 802.11N adapter wouldn't pick up my phone. Issue went away when I changed it for a G adapter.
Can someone please help with WiFi tether. I have a EVO LTE rooted. I have the settings set as generic ics I have mms clapping and routing fix checked. I changed the ssid and the password. I get the computers to connect but with no internet I tryed using the WiFi fix to use the stock hotspot and I got it to work for about 10 min. I also tryed Firefox still no luck please help. from my EVO using xda premium
Make sure your settings are setup like this:
Change Device-Profile: Generic ICS
Change Setup-Method: Netd (master)
none of these things worked
Is your transformer rooted with the ad hoc fix baked in. I believe it's a problem on the tablets side not the LTE.

Hi All - coming to the LGOG from the SG Note which had no problems stock rooted - wifi tether working - just changed profile to I think nexus or something can't remember.
Has anyone consistently been able to get hotspot to enable on the stock ROM? what are the settings you are using in wifi tether? Assuming that is how you were able to get it to run. I am rooted on Jellybean - i have tried what google suggested and forum search suggested with no joy.
Tried - device profile SG3, generic ICS / JB (lan0)
It launches but no devices see it broadcasting? HELP!
Need this feature - want to stay with stock ROM if possible?
Thanks

Works with stock as well. Use netd-ndc (master) and you should see your Wi-Fi ssid available. Choose an alternate lan if you can see the net but not get a connection. Search these forums, there is a little more detail posted.

Ok - tried that and it did get me broadcasting but when I tried loggin into the device on my laptop it BSOD'd my laptop (tried it 3x and got same result) on Generic ICS/ JB lan0 and lan1 would not broadcast? I did search before and came up with no confirmed working settings? Any thoughts or can anyone sticky this or add working confirmed WIFI tether app settings that work on rooted unlocked stock?
Do you pay monthly for tethering service?
I tried tethering on my Samsung Infuse a while back and got a notice saying the service would be added to my bill if I did it again.
Is it undetectable if you are rooted or running a different ROM

Yes, didn't mention it because it was what you said (Generic ics/jb wlan0).
Did you try a different lan selection? I don't know what about it would make your laptop crash - sounds like an issue with your laptop that is incompatible with something in the AP settings.
You might need to try the netd max client cmd option too.
I also have a method (no sexy app, just a few commands I put into a script) that lets me run a socks proxy on my phone while my phone is a regular wifi client on my network (just brings up wifi without disabling data), and I can point my pc's web browser at it, thus usable even with wired pc's on my network. You can go a step further and apply the iptables rules the way wifi tether does, point your default gateway at it, and be tethered too.

the centrino driver on my Laptop gets a BSOD when connecting to the wifi hotspot with this phone and nexus 4 i guess- it is an identified issue on the Intel wireless community some people installed older drivers for their chipset to get it working, but mine does not have older drivers it is an ASUS UX31a (love this ultrabook) - final solution was to disable N mode on the advanced tab of the wireless chipset. Connects now no problem and stays connected.
my work laptop OLD intel chipset has no problem and hooked right up to the tether
Settings:
Wireless tether
Device profile - (Generic ics/jb wlan0)
Device Set-up method - Netd-NDC (master)
Lan- 192.168.1.0/24 (thanks Jdoc i did change this was defaulted to 192.168.2.0/24)
Hope if anyone else is in a quandry on this it helped - thanks for the support!
Cool - do you get the data display on the wifi tether screen (amount transferred and speed)? I had this but it seems like the JB update made it go away - maybe their method of collecting the data is incompatible with JB or maybe something else got trashed in the update.
Thanks for posting your solution.

I'm stock/rooted at&t JB and using these settings:
Device profile - (Generic ics/jb wlan0)
Device Set-up method - Netd-NDC (master)
and while tethering works fine, I cannot get wifi back after stopping the tether and closing wifi-tether. I can't get wifi back until I reboot the phone. I've tried a number of device profiles (generic, generic ics/jb (both of them), SGSIII) and they all behave the same way. I didn't have this trouble with the stock ICS, this just started with the at&t jb update.
anyone get this working?

That's what I had to do too. Wifi wouldn't turn back on unless I rebooted. I'm not sure how to get it working, considering I'm on Rootbox now.
Is it possible to tether a rooted droid incredible 4g running the stock HTC Sense image that STILL has the unlimited data plan (I got the phone just before they killed it last summer)? I have a stock droid incredible 4g (Android 4.0.4) that I simply unlocked the bootloader on and installed/flashed SuperSU from TWRP. I apologize if my terminology is off as I am new to this. I have installed both WiFi Tether and FoxFi and have had no success with either program. I may be configuring something incorrectly or it may not be possible given I'm still on the unlimited data plan. I assumed that rooting my device would somehow allow Wifi Tether to bypass whatever verizon blocks on the unlimited data plans to prevent tethering. I have googled everything I can with regard to this issue and have attempted all the recommended fixes with FoxFi (rename the SSID, reboot the phone, disabled WiFi, etc...). I do not know how to configure Wifi Tether (tried the defaults and a few combinations I found on google) and have found very little to assist further with it. There are multiple device-profiles and setup-methods to choose from in addition to a bunch of other options, and am hoping someone know specifically what I can do or have a combination that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Simplified Questions:
(1) Is it possible to teather on a droid inc 4g with unlimited data?
***These Questions assume '1' above is true***
(2) Can this work in FoxFi, if so, how do I configure it?
(3) Can this work in Wifi Tether, if so, how do I configure it?
(3a) In Wifi Tether, I would need it set up to do a 'hotspot' not an ad-hoc network connection, no clue how to do this...
(3b) In Wifi Tether, which device-profile and setup-method should be used?
(3c) There are a number of options in WiFi Teather, which ones should be selected?
Solved
I continued to search and try settings and figured out what worked:
(1) Phone must be rooted
(2) Download WiFi Teather
(3) In Settings -> Choose HTC Rezound (LTE/CDMA/GSM) as the 'Device-Profile'
(4) Leave the 'Setup-Method' as 'Auto', which is the default
(5) Optional: Use 'WiFi-Encryption' if you'd like
(6) Set the SSID
(7) Check the box for 'Wifi-driver reload'
(8) Ensure 'MSS clamping' is checked (was by default for me)
(9) Ensure 'Routing fix' is checked (was by default for me)
(10) Start Tethering
The above should work...
Simple, if your on a sense based ROM just use open garden https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether
And in settings select either generic ICS or rezound I forget its been a while but I know it works flawlessly
On cm which I am just use the built in tethering very simple
I use WiFi Tether (currently using 3.2-beta2). Works great. Fast, no drops, etc.
While I am running ViperLTE, I see no reason why it won't work with rooted stock.

I have found that signal strength/area is everything when it comes to speeds - tethering or otherwise. At work, I have intermittent 4G and my tethering speeds are so-so. I have to carefully put my phone in the right spot to get 4G, and that spot varies depending on the weather...
However, at home my signal and 4G are rock solid. 4G speeds, including tethering, are faster than my WiFi connection.
