Hi guys, I had a quick question regarding using multiple browsers in your android os. Everytime I use another browser, it keeps asking me to pick a browser when I click on a link.
For example, If I am using skyfire and i click a link, it will ask me again if I want to use skyfire or stock browser for the link.... im like.. im in skyfire I'd like skyfire to complete the link.
I know I can solve this issue by setting the default program for internet but if I do set the default to skyfire, it won't let me use the android browser as a link pressed in android default broswer will open up skyfire for any link I press in the stock browser....
Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Solution: Either keep pressing the select browser to open link every time or use the default browser and switch to using only 1 browser.
Opera is a really good choice btw and better than both stock and skyfire.
There really aren't too many other "solutions" for this. Find a browser you really like and use it for your default.

Hey thanks for the help. I guess I'll just have to stick to manually clicking my choices each time because I do want both. Sometimes, other browsers just have problems and I need to use the stock android browser.
I also tried all of them, dolphin(s), opera, miui, etc... I came out liking skyfire best other than the stupid social network bar at top.
one quick thought, it only makes sense that this needs to change. it's kinda like using chrome on my desktop and it asking me what browser to use everytime I click a link. Is this a fix on the os side or the app side??
I use 2 browser which is the stock and opera, I don't have this problem.
try this, if you're on the stock browser select the stock browser as default, then when you're on Skyfire when it ask you again choose Skyfire. I think that's what I did.

There is also a free app in the market that lets you input a URL and choose which browser to use for that specific URL.

It's OS-side and I don't see it being changed simply because most people use a single browser and never have this issue.
Here is yet another "possible" fix though: Set your default Android browser as default. Get an icon to skyfire on your homescreen. Every time you click a link from within another app (XDA, Email, Messaging, etc), it will open it with the default browser. Every time you wish to use Skyfire, start it up from its icon.
You should never be asked which browser you wish to use again.
So ive been trying to find a way to delete these locked bookmarks. Every method I've tried points to a file that's not on the phone (/system/etc/motorola/com.android...) Any suggestions?

Been trying to do the same thing with no results.
Found one that worked. Goto the market and install Skyfire. You can edit the bookmarks all you want. Back on the system default browser, the changes will be applied after the app is restarted. Once the pesky Verizon locked down bookmarks are nuked, remove Skyfire. Viola.

Did this, and now browser force closes when opening bookmarks. nice.
Rebooted my whole phone just in case maybe task manager was stupid and didn't kill Browser fully. Nope...
Edit: And actually, now my phone is randomly rebooting every 3 minutes... the ****?

Lol.
Just use a non stock browser like dolphins hd. Problem solved. The stock browser blows anyway.

That's your opinion. Some of us prefer the stock browser.

I really don't want to SBF my phone just because of this stupid stock browser phail, so I'm just going to go ahead and try out a couple of those non-stock browsers and just delete the browser app entirely...
I've tried Dolphin, but not Aurora. First stop, then
edit: Aurora isn't even a browser?

If you delete the stock browser you will have problems with Voice Search and other google apps.
Also Aurora is not for the faint of heart its Firefox's alpha builds.

Oh right, derp, I use that on my computer Wasn't aware it was on mobile though.
Thanks for that, saved me from actually having to SBF. The reboot issue went away after I stopped using the stock Browser.
Personally, I used an app called Bookmarks Manager.

I never had an issue after removing them with it, even though I use the stock browser and have other bookmarks.

Use Titanium Backup? I could back up my stock browser for you so you'd be back to its original state.

I don't think it's the apk itself is broken, but it looks for those locked bookmarks when you open the bookmarks tab and when it can't find them, it borks out because of the lack of error handling.
Atleast I think - the bookmarks aren't part of the app so removing them wouldn't break the actual app.

Did you delete all bookmarks that were stored? I did and I had FC when I tried to access the bookmarks. What worked for me was just bookmarking google.com, then trying to access the bookmarks again, and everything was gone except the new google.com bookmark.
That's odd... I haven't seen an FC on the phone after doing the removal. Going in and out of history or bookmarks yet nothing causing any issues.

That may be the root of the problem. I think I read somewhere the stock browser is looking for at least one bookmark.
When I remove the bookmarks, I usually wipe them all out and have none.
Maybe the app messed up the data somehow?

menu -> manage apps -> All (tab) -> Browser -> Clear data.
That should restore your browser back to stock. There is a template it goes by that should also rebuild data with the locked bookmarks intact as well.
I used the skyfire method mentioned in the third post without a hitch. In case it matters, I had two bookmarks of my own already and deleted all of the locked ones.

THIS.
I ran into this problem pretty early on. I deleted all the stock Bookmarks and the browser would just force close every time I opened it. Clearing the Browser app data restored a working browser, and unfortunately the default bookmarks.
I upgraded to ICS yesterday and everything seems great. The only issue I have is that I can't find out how to put the stock browser into desktop mode. I found a menu option for "request desktop
site" but it seems to need to be checked everytime you visit the site. Any ideas how to get this turned on permanently?
There may be a way to do it in debug mode but luckily someone has made a version of the stock browser with just such an option easily available!

Had the same problem just ended up getting ics + browser from the market. Fixed my problem.
wish i had an answer...
probably why everyone uses other browsers like dolphin, or opera...
Ya its weird. The option to do it was in honeycomb but they seem to have forgotten to include it in ICS
You have to type in "about:debug" then go into settings, then into developer or something. Should be in there, under like UA String

I don't seem to have this problem with bookmarked sites. Once I set the drop menu option, add to bookmarks, it will work every time.
For non bookmarked sites it seems to be iffy. Most of the time it continues to work, but sometimes not.
ICS Stock Browser desktop option has something seriously wrong. I cant get pages to load after enabling it. I have to go into system settings and clear cache to make it load pages again. Anyone else having this problem?

I think that this is one of the biggest problems with the stock ICS browser, and its one that has made it unusable for me. I'm moving to Dolphin HD until Google release some kind of fix for this, preferably returning to the old way of setting the user string.
Download ICS browser in the market, the stock is total embarrassment to ICS.
Girlfriend and I just received our V10's today and are having an issue. Neither of us are able to set Dolphin Browser to be the default browser.
There is an option in the Dolphin Browser settings for "Set as default browser" but the "Always" and "Just once" options are missing when you try to set it up. They are there both of the old Galaxy S3's we have, but they don't show up on the V10. Tried going into the Android app settings and there was no browser set as default & cleaning all default app settings did not remedy it. Tried uninstall/reinstalling Dolphin & nothing. It let's you pick Dolphin, but since it won't let you select "Always"... the option within Dolphin just stays as if it has not been set up yet.
Anyone else? Here's the link to Dolphin:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser&hl=en
Seems to be working here. To test I cleared the defaults in Chrome in the Applications section, then when I click some link, I choose Dolphin and left the box checked to use as default browser. Now all links to straight to Dolphin, and the Dolphin settings show the use as default option turned on. Is that what you did also? I think the option for just once or always is replaced by that check box to use as default browser?

Not exactly. Here's a video of me trying to set it as default. Does the same thing on my girlfriends V10. On our S3's when the option to select Dolphin comes up there are choices for "Always" and "Just once".

Ah ok, if I were you I'd forget about the Dolphin settings and just let the OS handle it: clear defaults, click on any link, choose Dolphin and leave the box checked to use as default. It's worth a try anyway..

Hi, I think it is bug or something. You can send your vedio about this via email to [email protected]. May it helps
Yeah, just clear defaults in your other browsers and then set Dolphin as the new default with each prompt.
Hi.
I first time use an s9+, and have some small, but annoying issue. I have kiwi browser installed, and I can't set it as a default browser. Or to be exact I can, and I did, but yet if I click on any link from social media, it still opens them with samsung browser. I never used a samsung before, so I would like to ask, what's the trick to fix this? And at this piont, looks like I'm also not able to disable samsung browser, and chrome as well. Is there any way to block those?

Hi, thanks, but it is set to kiwi, and looks like it ignores it. Also the section above lets me delete the defaults, and after I set kiwi again, but no changes with the behaviour, still opens in samsung browser. Also in that section where I should set links, it's inactive.
I just recently posted this answer in another post, worked for me on the latest Android 11 hope it helps you too

Google is being so annoying lately... I had this same problem and found a solution:
just install a browser that you aren't going to use (or one already on your device) and then set it as the default browser. Then delete that app (uninstall it) and the default browser will be back set to none.
Just super annoying because if you hit the button again later to set a default browser you'll have to do this all over again
