So I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to install Ultimatum 2.0 on my i777 yesterday, and it finally worked after many hours. Then today, I decided to do a factory reset under "settings" and this is where the fun begins.
The phone rebooted into the screen with the Samsung Galaxy s2 along with the usual yellow exclamation mark, then froze. I tried restarting the phone and the same thing happened. Now I have nothing.
The Power + Volume (+/-) doesn't work so I can't get into CWM. I can get into Odin Mode with USB connection however.
So my question is, how can I fix this? I've already done a lot of reading on the topic but still haven't come up with a definite answer.
The basic idea is to flash the phone with Odin, but where can I get the files needed? Is there anything else I need to know? Thank you in advance

why factory reset under settings? wipe data/factory reset is done in CWM.
flash a CWM kernal in odin. boot into CWM. flash whatever ROM you want.
yeah...it was a careless decision of mine.
So would the siyah kernel work? That's what I had before. Thank you

any kernal would work, depending on the ROM you want. And if you know how to Flash in odin/heimdall. Not sure about Odin, but it might require a certain file type. heimdall is easier IMO, if you know the commands.
Search around.

If all you have is Odin, then flash a kernel with cwm like moto said and go from there. The sticky link i gave you has steps on how to do it. Good luck and hope you get back to normal
thanks for the help. Just one more question...should i be worried that my flash counter is at 1? I've read that it is an issue when flashing.....so in that case do I need to get a usb jig?

Yep, gotta try and search man.
counter is just a #
triangle away in market, if you dont like looking at it for the split second its there when you boot up.
i guess i'm in some trouble now...
Tried using the method as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525821
Couldn't even get Odin to recognize my device. Tried taking the battery out etc. Everything stops at "downloading...do not remove target" or something like that. The computer says i'm missing a bunch of drivers...anything else I can try?

This subject is covered already. Before u even use Odin u MUST already have the proper drivers for your phone installed. On windows 7 its much easier to do, but any windows version is fine. http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-i777-USB-Driver-for-AT-T.shtml
I found this on a Google search. May help, but trying to resolve problems by searching a lot and reading through pages of data on how to do things is the best way to learn. If that sounds like a lot of work, it is. But we're all here to learn. Good luck.

Honestly, there are so many many threads/posts mentioned about that. Some buried under but yes there are many. I can't even remember where exactly they are now but I will post link if stumble across.
In the mean time, help yourself by searching "yellow triangle", "binary counter", "brick", "back to stock", .......
Also, a lesson, do read up, be sure, be prepare before doing anything to the phone.
FIXED!!! SO HAPPY. Thanks for all the help guys.
It turned out to be a driver problem and that was the reason why odin wouldn't detect it. I installed the i777 drivers from the samsung website but those don't work.
anyone who's having a similar problem install the full driver set here: http://uploaded.to/file/xeczx9xt (grabbed from another xda thread)
1.) uninstall any existing samsung usb drivers.
2. ) Reboot computer
3.) install the new drivers.
4.) Reboot again
5.) Open Odin, do the button combination with your phone (2 volume buttons and hold)
Flash with instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525821
Hope this helps someone in the future.

So last night I decided to play around with my phone since I had been running stock ICS for a while. I still had some battery issues so was going to try out a few roms and see how they were all doing these days. I started off by flashing a siyah kernel using odin to get root. Everything went smooth. I then installed ROM manager and stupidly tried to flash CWM from within the app. The app completely froze and once I rebooted the phone would not boot correctly. I get the initial triangle bound galaxy s II screen but after that just a blank screen. Beyond that, the buttons and display flash ever so often very briefly but thats it. I could still get to download mode so I figured I would just use the "return to stock" thread to start over. Unfortunately I seem to have completely messed something up because I can't finish flashing anything, the computer beeps like I unplugged the USB cable and plugged it back in in the middle of anything that takes longer to flash than just a kernel and odin reports that it fails. When I used to just leave my phone plugged into my computer and it was at full charge it seemed to randomly do the same beeping as well. I think my next plan of action is to let the battery drain a bit and try to do a full flash (with bootloaders) and hope that it makes it all the way through without disconnecting as it seems to shut down the usb connection when at full battery for some reason.
In summary, I can get to download mode at this point, or a firmware failed to load screen. Ive tried various things with odin, heimdel and kies to no avail. Odin seems to have some marginal success except for the random disconnecting. Anyone have any advice for me (beyond trying to flash with the phone at around 50% battery or am I buying a Galaxy Nexus today?
Thanks in advance
If u can't get into cwm just flash a stock firmware from the download repository or from creepycrawlys sig. Odin should work fine in download mode regardless of what recovery rom manager installed. Make sure u have the latest drivers on your computer for the i777. Also I've found when I do the Odin flashes that the best way to get it to work is to start Odin with yer phone disconnected THEN connect it after Odin is started. Don't use rom manager in the future.

The random disconnecting sounds like either a bad cable or a bad USB port. Try to flash using a different USB cable...if that doesn't work, you may have a hardware issue.

Seems logical, I will try a different port and cable and see if I have better luck. Anybody have any suggestions on what package I should try first? Should I try one that includes the BLs or not? My end goal is going to be either cm9 or aokp.

I would stay away from packages with bootloaders. Too easy to fully brick your phone. I would use the one creepyncrawly posted here. Make sure you read and follow the directions to avoid Brickbug. This will put you on rooted stock ICS. You should then be able to flash to your hearts content.

I'd second this - if you get one of those random disconnects while flashing bootloaders, you could potentially be in a much bigger world of hurt...

No, ROM manager is still one of the worst things you could use on an I777. Stay away from it. I believe OP realized his mistake after the fact, he included it so that others could better answer his question and help him get his phone up and running again.

Yep very old. I cant believe that Koush hasnt figured something out for this yet. He fails too. CyanogenMod has always pushed ROM Manager, even tho most devs state not to use it.
OP: Get into download mode, and flash another, PROPER, kernel with ODIN or Heimdall.
Then use CWM to flash things.
I's in good mood today?

Wish you good luck with that. Jtag takes a fair amount of dexterity for the micro soldering, and some fairly expensive equipment. If you are unable to get it done yourself, the owner of Mobile Tech Videos will perform Jtag recovery for about $50.00.
I sincerely hope you know that the method for getting into download mode on I777 is to take out the battery, plug normal portion of USB into computer already running Odin, then hold both volume buttons and plug in micro USB side to phone.
If that really does nothing for you, then try mobile tech videos.
i777 soft bricked, boot loop never goes away...
I bricked my samsung galaxy s2 i777 by trying to flash a rom via rom manager. While it was installing it, it rebooted and got stock on boot loop.
It can go into download mode but never to recovery or beyond.
I tried every solution recommended out there, like flashing stock kernel, stock rom, different roms, siyah kernel, oneclick unbrick, and you name it. I tied ADB but it does not recognize the device, nor does oneclick unbrick.
Somehow I need to go ahead and wipe everything but since I cannot get to recovery, I cannot wipe it, and every time I flash something via Odin, it goes through the whole process successfully however once it reboots after flashing, it is in bootloop again. All I see is samsung galaxy sII logo window.
Any solutions?
Thanks!

A simple way to get the i777 into download mode:
unplug the usb cable
turn the phone off
hold only the volume down button
insert usb cord
Almost instant download mode.

I'm not saying it won't work, but the fact that you've got a file from gs2root shows your inexperience and/or lack of concern for the well-being of others devices. There is no reason to take the risk of using ANYTHING from gs2root... you can get everything needed to do everything possible with this device right here from xda and have the peace of mind that it will work as expected so long as you follow the instructions.

Either way i try to get odin to recognize my phone and i cannot, windows keeps saying its not recognized.... I have tried 3 different cords, and 25 usb ports on three different computers to no avail...Is there some secret? not sure why windows 7 and samsung make it so impossible for this to happen. As i am ready to light all my computers on fire and throw my i777 into the street i figure i should post on here first and take a deep breath and remember im just a amateur when it comes to this stuff. Next, try to enter recovery by holding the three buttons, vol- vol+ Pwr. If necessary, hold continuously while the logo appears, goes away and appears the second time, then release and see if it boots into recovery.
If you successfully flashed the wrong kernel, and only the kernel but not the system, then it should still have ClockworkMod Recovery, which may boot. If it boots, use recovery to flash the correct kernel for your phone.
It would be helpful to know exactly what you attempted to flash.
If this does not get you going, then post your results and we'll continue to help.

Yes i have thew i777
I flashed the dream kernal 3.04 one with the mic swap
booted fine after flash, then when i rebooted it frooze at samsung logo
cannot get into recovery only download mode
http://buildenv.dream-irc.com/android/?nav=display&file=60
thats what i flashed and i was on abberation 1.3
is that only a jellybean kernal? was thinking it did ics and jb? was that the issue...
was my USB port.... changed it with the new one i had ordered a few weeks back and walah! odin recognized it. took about 4 mins to replace micro usb port, should have done when i got it
Glad you're back in business. That download looks like the correct kernel for our phone, so I don't know why it didn't boot. The kernel should be good for both ICS and JB (both 4.x). If it was me, I'd probably download from XDA.
That's the link from xda?

Yeah, I see that's their official download page, linked from the XDA thread. I havn't visited that thread in a long time.
Aberration comes with Siyah, but there's no reason I know of that it wouldn't work with Dream Kernel. I don't know what caused your problem. Maybe a bad flash?
Did you get your phone back?
Never mind... I saw that op posted on one of my threads at about the same time i posted here, so i deleted this

Hey man, I use version 2.7.4, may wanna try that one. Download the kernel, uninstall ex tweaks or whatever yer currently using to control cpu stuff, then reboot into recovery. Wipe cache, and flash new kernel. Then reboot,(into android) and install ex tweaks again. This is how I do it and it works for me. Good luck.

I was on an international based rom and downloaded something that was supposed to be a fix for something. so after the download it took me to recovery to install and reboot. I flashed the zip and it obviously wasn't for my carrier because my screen went black then did the samsung logo, then my twrp recovery screen, but then right back around to the samsung logo. I can get to odin but not recovery. in odin it shows my phones product name correctly, says custom binary download and says no, current binary says samsung official, then system status says custom...Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help. I am so f***** without this phone...Please someone help....Thank You all..What can I do????
Need specifics. What rom were you on and wtf did you flash lol

Lol yes, sorry kinda going crazy here. Thanks for responding, I appreciate that even. I was on Goodness i605 note 2. I must have screwed up by downloading something in those minsettings that was for a different carrier. It said it was a network error fix I believe. It then took me to recovery to flash the zip and thats when all hell broke loose. It just keeps booting over and over and after the samsung label it shows the twrp screen for a split second then it's just gone. It was obviously a huge mistake and I am an idiot for doing it. I have been trying to get things done through the pc and usb to the phone to fix it and that seems to be the other part of my problem is since I can't turn the usb debugging on on my phone i can't download anything through the usb, Right?...I'm a noob basically and obviously, lol but thanks for responding even if you have no advise.

Dude go into recovery with the rom still installed, and dirty flash the rom while only wiping cache and dalvik. So long as you didn't wipe system you should be fine doing that.
And read more. The op of goodness specifically said don't flash ANYTHING from that till he gives the go ahead. Or it will softboot your phone like it just did

Thank you for the input but I don't believe that will work, I can't get into recovery. I can only get into odin download. But yes I read that as well, after I did it thanks
I would tey returning to stock feom odin, and starting all over again. I am not sure this would work, but it is worth a shot.

Odin can be buggy, a lot of the issues are with USB cables and whatnot. Try some of these
1. Try Odin a few times, if it doesn't work disable any and all antivirus, reboot PC and try again.
2. If still no success, try reinstalling all drivers and yet again try again.
3. If that fails, use a different USB port.
4. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable.
5. If all else fails just try a different PC.
Frankly your phone has reached rock bottom so any fails with Odin should not make the problems worse than they are now. Keep us posted and good luck.

Ill give all that a go for sure thank you very much. Is there any possible way through your computer connected to your phone through the usb that you can turn on the usb debugging on your phone from your computer? Long shot I'm sure but it seems like if I could get that turned on I would be working in the right direction
are you getting into download mode on the phone itself and seeing the yellow triangle? you can flash the stock samsung firmware through odin which also unroots and then start over with rooting and such.
I would do what wto said. I have had odin fail multiple times because my drivers were not loaded correctly. Keep plugging away at it, and it might surprise you. Good luck, and sorry.....

Thank you all for being so helpful, really I appreciate it. Yes I can get to download and for the first time I was able to get those return to stock files to go through odin sucessfully but then it rebooted and then went into a different loop with just the samsung logo? In the post it said shut it down then and go into recover but I tried and it just goes right back into the loop? any idea from there?
I don't want to give you bad advice at this point. Honestly, this is my first Samsung device. You can still get into downlpad mode correct? If so, you are not completely screwed (hopefully). I will look around tomorrow, and see what I can dig up. At this point you know you can flash files with odin, so dont get careless at this point. I know how frustrating, and anxious you must feel. What a great learning experience, huh? My advice is to do as much research as possible. Getting late, so until tomorrow.

Did you flash the PIT file when you flashed the return to stock files? Which return to stock files did you flash? If you haven't already done this try flashing just the PIT files in Odin and see if that will work for you, if not then flash the alternative recovery ROM and the PIT together in Odin and see if that works.

If you can still get into download your phone will still be functional. I have a few questions.
1. What version of android were you rooted on?
2. Were you ever successfully rooted at any point?
3. Can you get your phone to be recognized in ODIN?
You shouldn't have to need USB debugging if you can get into download mode, for all I know download mode uses the same USB debugging properties as it is not in the OS yet.
Keep us posted and please don't leave out details in-case someone else comes around with a similar issue. If you do get something working, try to put a step-by-step on how you did it for future reference.
Great Learning experience for sure, I thought I was getting good at figuring out what I could and couldnt download lol..yes I'm extremely bummed and even more frusterated. I appreciate all the help and direction. I am truely sorry to even have to ask for help guys believe me. Yes I was rooted, yes I get recognized by odin in download mode and as for the version I was last on I am not sure exactly what I was on...i never got the latest update from verizon because I was rooted before that. So I rooted just after that verizon update that was the security patch I believe?? So I did the pit file with the root66 first and it keeps going all the easy tell the end of the download amd then fails...however I then did the pit with the stock restore and it passed, rebooted my phone then goes into a boot loop and I shut it down like it says in the directions and try to restart into recovery and it goes right back to the bootloop..its like I dont have a recovery set up or something anymore if thats possible?? I'm working now but ill be back to messing with it once I get off so any advice will be appreciated and put to use at 5mst...thanks again everuone
I am just thinking out loud, but if recovery is hosed, maybe you could run casual, and have it reinstall rhe custom recovery. I have no idea if this would work, but it is one way ro get a custom recovery back on. Still looking around for more info, but I dont want to brick your device completely.
Edit- You may try flashing twrp from odin. Here is a link to team.win's website, and download. Again, I am thinkong out loud, and none of my advise is bulletproof.

Thank You sir, I.ll try that once I reach my house
I am a long time fan of this forum and have rooted many phones. I had a # symbol on my notification bar wanting me to update my superuser. I have some vision problems due to a stroke 3 months ago and hit the wrong thing and hit the update recovery and I got the Yellow triangle saying the Verizon detected unauthorized software. I know some of you are going to tell me to search for it, and I have done that the best I can. Like I said I had a stroke and it has affected some of my vision and makes my thinking a little cloudy at times. I hope someone can tell me there is a fix for this and would be so kind as too point me in the simplest way in getting my phone restored. I am not helpless, I could just use some help from the community here if there is a fix. Thank you for your help and understanding
can you get into download mode? is so you can probably just flash a stock odin image to your phone withich will bring you back to stock and not sure how you got a update recovery through that even so updating recovery shouldn't do that as far as i know but your best bet is probably odin a stock image look in the stickies in developement or general can't recall exavtly where it is as i am on a phone
If I'm understanding you correctly it sounds like you had the update superuser binary icon.
When doing that it gives two options, one is install and I can't remember the other option but it says do it if you're on an HTC device only.
I never read about what happens if you pick the wrong one, but I will look for you.
Hopefully someone else already knows.
i honestly think odin a stock image will solve all of your problems i think that is the only solution once you get the unauthorized software message...
